    Chapter 30 Little Bean

In the following months, he heard about Lin Zerui again. Bai Sijia said he had lost his mind and gone insane. After that, he disappeared without a trace, and gradually faded from Yu Wei's memory.

After Yu Wei found a house, his only tasks were to eat, sleep, and drink well while peacefully growing the baby. After the fourth month, the baby developed fast; his weight shot up, his belly grew noticeably, and he had to wear maternity clothes.

Every time Bai Sijia video-called, she couldn't help commenting that he must have been having trouble adjusting back in China. He was all skin and bones back in China, but in less than two months in Germany, Yu Wei had gained weight, looking plump and healthy.

Bai Sijia wanted to see his whole body, but Yu Wei absolutely refused.

He kept putting off telling her and still hadn't dared to say anything. After much thought, Yu Wei decided to act first and explain later—he would tell Bai Sijia after the baby was born.

By six or seven months along, Yu Wei rarely made video calls. At eight months, he could barely move around, so he hired a live-in housekeeper.

With the live-in housekeeper around, Ling Heyu didn't have to worry about leaving Yu Wei alone, but he insisted on accompanying Yu Wei to his prenatal checkups, even if he had to take time off work.

Fortunately, everything went smoothly; the checkups showed no issues.

In September, Yu Wei couldn't sit still at home. Whenever he had free time, he would go to the mall with the housekeeper, each time returning with loads of purchases.

He had set aside one room as a nursery when decorating, and every day after shopping, he would shut himself in there, arranging things to pass the time.

In October, his due date was getting close. Ling Heyu was even more panicked than Yu Wei himself. With his busy academic schedule and unable to stay by Yu Wei's side all the time, he would call every half hour to check in, afraid Yu Wei might fall or hurt himself and the housekeeper wouldn't notice.

On the evening of July 13th, Yu Wei was woken up in the middle of the night by pain. In the early hours, the baby's movements became frequent and intense, completely different from before.

Yu Wei immediately reached for his phone on the bedside table to call Ling Heyu.

Before the second ring, his door was pushed open. Since Yu Wei's due date was near, Ling Heyu had moved into the room next door to be closer, about a week ago.

"I'm turning on the light." Ling Heyu called out before turning on the light. Yu Wei closed his eyes for a moment to adjust.

Ling Heyu walked over, lifted the blanket, and took a quick look. "Your water broke. I'll call an ambulance. Lie still and don't move."

He grabbed a pillow and placed it under Yu Wei.

The ambulance arrived quickly. At the hospital, they confirmed the water had broken, and it took 28 hours before the baby was born.

Throughout the entire process, Yu Wei was in so much pain his mind was foggy, only able to accept short, clear commands. When the doctor told him to push, he pushed. It felt like seven or eight Ling Heyus were pacing around his bed in a panic.

It wasn't until he heard the baby's loud cry that Yu Wei's hazy mind gradually cleared.

"Yu Wei, Yu Wei—" Ling Heyu wiped his sweat and called his name softly.

"Where's the baby? Bring him here, let me see." Yu Wei lifted his heavy eyelids, his voice weak.

"Listen, the baby's cry is so strong. He's very healthy." Ling Heyu brought over the wrinkled little bundle for him to see. "It's a boy. He looks as handsome as you."

Yu Wei closed his eyes briefly, trying to see what was handsome about the little bundle in Ling Heyu's hands.

Uh... He tried a few times and failed. He just couldn't see any handsomeness.

The baby had long hair clinging to his skin, tightly shut eyes, a tiny nose, a tiny mouth, and reddish skin... and he was crying his lungs out...

"Is he handsome?" Yu Wei stared for a while and then asked the big question.

Ling Heyu nodded without changing expression. "Very handsome."

    Yu Wei: "..."

Alright, if he says so, then it's fine.

Yu Wei's delivery went unusually smoothly, and by the afternoon he was transferred to a regular ward. Their housekeeper brought food, and after eating, Yu Wei closed his eyes for a nap.

Ling Heyu took the baby out for a checkup and came back half an hour later.

"Let me hold him." Yu Wei had been lying in bed, eating and sleeping, and now that he saw them, he couldn't resist the urge to hold the baby.

Even though Yu Wei couldn't see what was handsome about the baby, he was still his son, so he had to raise him.

Hearing this, Ling Heyu carefully placed the baby on Yu Wei's bed. Yu Wei lay on his side and looked again.

Now that the baby's eyes were open, Yu Wei thought it looked even weirder.

The little bundle's face was so small, about the size of his fist. With everything squeezed onto that tiny face, it looked a bit cramped. At first glance, his big eyes were all you could see on that tiny face.

"Ling Heyu, don't you think his eyes are a bit too big? At first glance, he looks like an alien. His eyes are the biggest thing on his face."

"Big eyes are what make you good-looking." Ling Heyu had somehow found a small stool; he sat down and gently touched the little bundle's cheek through the swaddle. "He'll look better once he grows into them. The eyes are as big as they'll be now; they won't grow larger. If they were small now, that would really be a problem."

Yu Wei seemed to have heard something like that before. He took another look and somehow got used to it. Watching the baby's dark eyes, his heart melted, and he gently tickled the baby's little pink hand.

Ling Heyu whistled a little tune, playing with the baby, and said, "Should we give him a nickname?"

"Little Bean," Yu Wei blurted out.

"That's great. Little Bean sounds nice." Ling Heyu looked up, curious, and asked Yu Wei, "Is there any story behind the name Little Bean?"

No particular reason. When Yu Wei first saw Little Bean, he thought he was all red and so small, about the size of his arm. Red and small—Yu Wei weirdly thought of red beans.

Ling Heyu paused, then burst out laughing, leaning on the bed. "Why not call him Little Red instead?"

Yu Wei replied seriously, "That sounds too old-fashioned."

    Ling Heyu: "You're a genius."

"Stop laughing, or you'll scare Little Bean into crying."

Ling Heyu clamped his mouth shut, but he was still grinning.

In the afternoon, Yu Wei lay in bed rehearsing what to say for half an hour. When the usual time for his call home arrived, his heart started racing.

He hadn't called them in a day.

Yu Wei took a deep breath and asked Ling Heyu to help him sit up against the headboard to make a video call.

He couldn't keep it from them forever.

He'd kept it secret for too long.

The call connected. Yu Wei immediately turned his camera off.

"Mom, can you not see me?" Bai Sijia's face appeared on the phone screen. "Did you turn off the camera?"

Yu Wei cleared his throat. "Mom, I want to tell you something. Don't be mad, okay?"

Bai Sijia brushed it off. "Go ahead."

Yu Wei hesitated, too nervous to speak. "First promise you won't be mad and won't yell at me."

Her own son had inexplicably gotten pregnant and given birth. Yu Wei wasn't sure if Bai Sijia could accept it.

"What did you do?" Bai Sijia keenly sensed something was off. "You didn't break the law, did you?"

"No, I didn't." Yu Wei said softly.

"That's good. As long as you didn't break the law, everything else can be discussed." Bai Sijia breathed a sigh of relief. "Hurry up and tell me, stop beating around the bush. And turn on the camera—I haven't seen you in a while, I want to see your face."

Yu Wei took a deep breath and turned on the camera.

On the video call, he was wearing a hospital gown, his face pale without any color.

Bai Sijia frowned. "What's wrong with you? Are you sick? Is it serious? You..."

"Mom, don't worry, I'm not sick. I just gave birth to a baby." Yu Wei said it all in one breath, not daring to look at the phone screen.

"Glad you're not sick. I thought... What!" Bai Sijia suddenly stood up, her voice sharply rising. "Gave birth? Birth to what? What are you talking about?"

Yu Wei didn't dare to speak. He switched to the back camera and pointed it at the crib.

Just as Yu Wei expected Bai Sijia to scold him, the call ended.

Bai Sijia was so angry she hung up immediately.

Yu Wei glanced at Little Bean sleeping peacefully in the crib and sighed.

Bai Sijia seemed to dislike him.

This situation—it's like a little girl who was raised with care suddenly getting pregnant and giving birth; anyone would be devastated. But he was a man, even though he was an Omega. The original Yu Wei was also raised with care by Bai Sijia and Yu Cheng. After he came, he suddenly went abroad, got pregnant, and gave birth without even being married. It was understandable that Bai Sijia couldn't accept it.

It was precisely because of this fear that Yu Wei had delayed telling them.

Half an hour later, Bai Sijia called him back on video.

Yu Wei answered cautiously and called out "Mom."

"Weiwei, your dad is back too." Bai Sijia's voice sounded relatively normal now. "I didn't quite understand what you said earlier. Let's talk it over properly."

Yu Wei heard Bai Sijia take a deep breath. After two seconds, she said, "Weiwei, you mean you gave birth to a child?"

    Yu Wei obediently nodded.

On the screen, Bai Sijia pinched the bridge of her nose, forcing herself to stay composed. "Whose child is it?"

    Yu Wei said, "Mine."

    Bai Sijia: "..."

Yu Wei muttered, "Mom, Dad, do you believe me if I say I can reproduce asexually?"

"Do you think we believe that?" Bai Sijia gritted her teeth. "Tell me clearly whose child it is. I just calculated the time. You didn't call only yesterday, so I guessed you gave birth yesterday. I worked out the dates; you must have gotten pregnant before going abroad. Now speak, whose child is it?"

"My child. No one else's." Yu Wei was tight-lipped. Bai Sijia couldn't get information out of him, so she started guessing.

"Don't tell me the child is Lin Zerui's." Bai Sijia was already about to lose her temper, ready to blow up if she heard an answer she didn't like.

"Mom, why mention him? He's bad news. My son isn't related to him at all."

Bai Sijia stared at him intently. "Are you sure it's not his?"

After Yu Wei clearly denied it, Bai Sijia finally relaxed.

    Thank God.

God knows how she calculated the dates and realized Yu Wei might have gotten pregnant last September; she panicked.

As long as that scumbag Lin Zerui isn't the father, everything else would be fine.

But they still had to know who the father was. Otherwise, they'd worry.

But no matter how they pressured him, Yu Wei refused to say who the father was.

They didn't sleep a wink that night. After talking it over all night, they decided to visit Yu Wei early the next morning.

No matter who the father was, Yu Wei was their child. He just had a baby and was alone in a foreign country; they were uneasy.

Without informing Yu Wei, they flew straight to Germany. They only called Ling Heyu after landing to ask which hospital Yu Wei was at.

When Ling Heyu heard they were coming, he put down his busy work and drove to the airport to pick them up.

Along the way, Bai Sijia and Yu Cheng tried to subtly ask about the child's father, but Ling Heyu said he didn't know either.

Their arrival was so sudden; Yu Wei had no clue. Yu Wei was recovering well; by the second day, he was able to walk on his own.

When Bai Sijia and Yu Cheng arrived at the hospital, Yu Wei was sitting on the bed, holding Little Bean in his arms, bottle-feeding him.

    "Yu Wei—"

Author's note: Next chapter will open the black room trope again. The baby is going to be caught.
