Chapter 39 This World Has a Bug

Ling Heyu took two cups, placed them on the coffee table, sat on the carpet with his back against the sofa, and poured two glasses of wine.

Yu Wei came down from the sofa to sit on the floor, gently nudging Ling Heyu's shoulder with his own, teasing, "You haven't really been possessed, have you? Always looking so worried, and now drowning your sorrows. Anyone would think you've been dumped."

Ling Heyu suddenly said gloomily, "Yeah."

Yu Wei paused, belatedly realizing that he had admitted it. His mouth fell open in surprise and he asked without thinking, "When did you fall in love? How come I didn't know?"

Ling Heyu hadn't met anyone new in days—aside from work, he spent all his free time with Yu Wei.

Besides, Yu Wei had never heard Ling Heyu mention it before.

Ling Heyu just gave him a long, deep look, sighed, and didn't answer. He raised his glass, lightly clinked it against Yu Wei's cup, and downed it in one gulp amidst the silence.

"You don't want to talk, so I won't ask any more." Yu Wei followed his lead, forcing down the pungent smell and tossing back his own glass.

The harsh liquid burned its way down his throat and into his esophagus, sending a searing sensation through him. Yu Wei couldn't suppress a violent cough, and tears immediately welled up in his eyes.

"Don't force yourself if you can't drink." Ling Heyu frowned, patting his back as he spoke. "Drink some water."

Yu Wei drank a glass of water, which diluted the taste of alcohol in his mouth.

"It's fine, I just drank too fast. I can handle it." Yu Wei patted his chest very loyally. "You've been dumped, so I definitely have to keep you company."

Ling Heyu's gaze was complex as he looked at him. He turned around and poured himself another full glass. When Yu Wei tried to pour one for himself, Ling Heyu stopped him and said flatly, "Don't drink."

Yu Wei complained, "So I'm just supposed to watch you drink? That's not fair."

Ling Heyu stared into the void and changed the subject. "I quit my hospital job. I'm going back to the country with you the day after tomorrow."

Yu Wei was taken aback. "Why? Your job was going fine—why quit?"

"No reason to stay in Country D."

Yu Wei didn't know what to say for a moment, so he just silently accompanied him in drinking.

But Ling Heyu insisted that Yu Wei not drink, while he himself downed glass after glass. Yu Wei hugged his knees and watched Ling Heyu empty one bottle, truly believing he'd been dumped.

Yu Wei was itching to gossip, but seeing his current state, he didn't dare ask.

The second bottle was almost empty before Ling Heyu stopped. He had drunk two full bottles without flushing or his heart racing—absolutely sober. Meanwhile, Yu Wei, sitting beside him, either from the fumes or the one glass he'd had, had a flushed, hot face and was resting his chin on his knees, tilting his head to look at him.

Ling Heyu got up to grab two more bottles, but Yu Wei grabbed his wrist.

"You're still drinking?" Yu Wei looked up at him. "You've already had two bottles."

"I'm not drunk." Ling Heyu's voice was slightly hoarse.

Even after two bottles, he couldn't get drunk; his mind was unusually clear.

"Don't drink anymore, or you'll have a headache tomorrow." Yu Wei pulled him back down and poured him a glass of water. "Have some water."

"Yu Wei, why are you so good to me?" Ling Heyu suddenly asked.

Yu Wei didn't stop pouring water and blurted out, "There's no 'why' to it. You're good to me, so I'm good to you. Is there some reason you're good to me?"

    Ling Heyu: "Yes."

Yu Wei asked without thinking, "What are you after?"

Ling Heyu looked at him seriously and said, "You."

At first, Yu Wei didn't react. He handed him the glass of water and laughed, "What could you possibly want from me?"

Suddenly, Ling Heyu's face was inches away, and Yu Wei felt a warm touch on his lips, heavy with the smell of alcohol.

Yu Wei's mind went blank. The smile on his face hadn't even had time to fade, and he froze in place, maintaining the same pose as a second before.

Five seconds later, Yu Wei finally realized what had happened. He shoved him away, at a loss for how to react.

Just now, Ling Heyu had kissed him.

Because he had been drinking, Yu Wei's reactions were slow.

"What are you doing?" Yu Wei's eyes widened in disbelief.

"I like you. I wanted to kiss you." Ling Heyu's eyes were clear—he wasn't drunk. "I shouldn't have kissed you without permission. I'm sorry, I was too impulsive."

Yu Wei opened his mouth but couldn't utter a word.

He had always seen Ling Heyu as a friend; it had never occurred to him that Ling Heyu might feel this way. It was sudden, and Yu Wei couldn't accept it.

"Yu Wei, can I pursue you?"

He had heard the same words twice in one week. But his answer was still the same: "No."

Shi Ciyan was the main character; they couldn't be together. Ling Heyu was his friend, and he had never thought about being with him.

Ling Heyu's voice was low. "Why?"

Yu Wei said seriously, "Ling Heyu, I don't like men. I can't accept men."

To reject Ling Heyu, he couldn't give him even a shred of hope; otherwise, it would only hurt him more. He himself wasn't gay, so saying he didn't like men wasn't a lie.

Ling Heyu obviously didn't believe him. "What about Shi Ciyan? If you can't accept men, then how do you explain An'an's father?"

Yu Wei awkwardly rubbed his nose. "An'an was an accident. Shi Ciyan and I are impossible too."

Ling Heyu's gaze was complex. "Do you like female Alphas?"

Based on what he knew, Yu Wei thought for a moment. If he liked female Alphas, wouldn't he be the one bottoming? He wasn't into that kind of dynamic either.

To be safe, Yu Wei answered, "I like female Omegas."

Ling Heyu looked stunned. "Are you gay?"

    Yu Wei: "..."

Ah, I feel like I'm getting confused.

If he liked men, he'd be gay.

But he liked female Omegas, and Ling Heyu thought he was gay.

    Either way, it seemed gay.

    This is a bug!

This world's setting has a bug!

"Actually, I might not even like female Omegas." Yu Wei awkwardly added, "I'm a narcissist—I only love myself. But no matter what, Ling Heyu, I only see you as a friend."

Ling Heyu sat there, but he zoned out for a bit because of Yu Wei's words. He looked drained and lifeless.

"But how can an Omega and an Alpha have a purely platonic friendship?"

    Yu Wei: "..."

    Whatever, let's just sleep.

    ...

The next day, Yu Wei had planned to treat him to a meal, but after last night, Yu Wei couldn't stop thinking about the fact that he was an Omega and Ling Heyu was an Alpha, different genders. He felt he should keep his distance and didn't dare to reach out.

He was at home sorting through his things, doing a thorough declutter. It wasn't until noon that Ling Heyu knocked on his door.

He looked even worse today. His face was pale, as if he might collapse at any moment.

    "Did you just wake up?"

Yu Wei looked at the person standing awkwardly at the door and said.

Ling Heyu nodded, looking embarrassed and hesitant. "Yesterday..."

Yu Wei's eye twitched violently. He asked tentatively, "Did you black out and forget?"

If he really forgot, that would be great. He could pretend nothing happened, and their relationship would be as before, still friends.

"I didn't black out." Ling Heyu walked in and nervously touched his face. "Even though I said those words last night while drunk, they were all my true feelings."

Yu Wei sighed, "What I said was true too. I don't like boys, I don't like Alphas."

Later, Ling Heyu didn't bring up the topic again. They simply filled their stomachs at home, then each went back to their own places to pack.

The next day at noon, they set off together.

They had very little communication along the way, and parted ways at the domestic airport.

This time, Yu Wei only had the driver pick him up.

When he got home, only Bai Sijia and An'an were there. Bai Sijia was holding An'an, helping him walk along the sofa.

An'an was one year old. He could barely stand, but couldn't maintain balance for more than a few seconds. He needed something to support him to walk.

Although he couldn't walk, he learned to speak surprisingly fast.

Whatever Bai Sijia taught him, he would learn within half a day. His speech was fairly clear, and others could understand what he was saying.

As soon as Yu Wei entered, Yu An looked over, excitedly crawling towards him frantically, shouting "Daddy, pick me up!" nonstop.

Before he crawled out of the blanket, Yu Wei quickly went over and picked him up, giving him two big kisses on his soft, tender cheeks.

Yu An's little hands also held Yu Wei's face, and he opened his mouth to kiss his face, drool smearing half of Yu Wei's face.

    Yu Wei's heart completely melted.

After he returned, An'an stuck to him like a little shadow. Wherever Yu Wei went, An'an crawled to follow.

The next day, it was still just him and Bai Sijia at home during the day. Yu Cheng went to work. Yu Song hadn't started school yet, but a few days earlier, on the day Yu Wei left for abroad, Yu Song had gone back to his small apartment near the school.

Yu Wei had bought this apartment because he was afraid that Yu Song would run into trouble with the main character if he lived in the dormitory. He had made Yu Song move out during his first semester of freshman year.

After Yu Song moved in, Yu Wei seemed to have never visited that small apartment.

"Mom, after dinner, I want to go check on Yu Song."

"Okay, go ahead." Bai Sijia nodded. "You haven't been there since he moved in. It seems he's living with a classmate."

"Classmate?" Yu Wei frowned. "What classmate? Why are they living together?"

"I don't know the specifics." Bai Sijia shrugged nonchalantly. "I'm not sure either. But I've been there a few times, and that guy is pretty handsome."

Yu Wei looked thoughtful, a strange sense of unease creeping into his heart.

In the afternoon, An'an woke up from his nap, and Yu Wei carried him out.

Last time, Yu Song was angry and still hadn't calmed down. Because Yu Wei didn't go to appease him, Yu Song had returned to the apartment early to avoid him.

He had to go coax the person back home, and also check what kind of person he was living with.

Yu Song moving out was a plot that didn't exist in the original novel. Where did this "person living with him" come from? Yu Wei was determined to get to the bottom of it.

The driver dropped him off at the entrance to Yu Song's apartment building. Yu Wei got out of the car holding An'an.

Only then did Yu Wei remember that he had forgotten to ask if Yu Song was at home. Afraid that he might not be there, he stood on the ground floor and dialed the phone.

Although Yu Song was angry, he would still answer the phone.

He answered the phone but didn't speak first.

    "Are you at home?"

Yu Song snorted, "I'm home, what do you want?"

    "That's good."

Yu Wei didn't say much more on the phone. After confirming he was home, he told the driver to go back first and went straight upstairs holding An'an.

Yu Song lived on the eighth floor. Yu Wei took the elevator up, stood at the door, and rang the doorbell.

He rang twice before the door was pushed open from inside. The person at the door was not Yu Song, but a stranger Yu Wei had never seen before.

Yu Wei was startled, wondering if he had knocked on the wrong door. Just as he was about to apologize, Yu Song's voice came from the living room.

"You cut this pear into such big chunks, how am I supposed to eat it? Hurry up and re-cut it."
