Chapter 42: Are They Kissing Before They're Even Together?

Shi Ciyan was stunned for a moment, then belatedly realized Yu Wei's attitude had taken a complete turn. His eyes lit up. "So you don't hate me anymore? You really agree to let me pursue you?"

Before, when he had proposed pursuing Yu Wei, he wouldn't agree. Every word and action from Yu Wei told him to keep his distance, that they were impossible, that he didn't even have the right to pursue. Shi Ciyan still hadn't figured out why he had been so rejecting of him back then. Yet today, he suddenly changed his tune and bringing it up himself. Shi Ciyan couldn't help but feel a bit surprised.

Yu Wei turned his head away somewhat awkwardly. "I never hated you."

It was all because his crappy golden finger had misled him. It had made him hide away for so long, wasting nearly two years.

Shi Ciyan watched his ever-changing expression with interest and teased, "If you don't hate me, then that means you like me."

He'd just said it casually, trying to get a reaction out of him. He didn't expect Yu Wei to actually think about it seriously, his voice very soft. "I've never liked anyone before, but I just don't dislike the idea."

Shi Ciyan's breath hitched. "Then I'll take that as you admitting you like me."

Yu Wei blushed and didn't contradict him.

"Go make some food. I'm hungry."

Shi Ciyan gave him a few gentle kisses. "You rest. I'll be fast."

Yu Wei obediently lay down with the kitten in his arms, thinking he wouldn't fall asleep. But as soon as he closed his eyes, he started to doze off.

Thirty minutes later, he was kissed awake by Shi Ciyan.

The kitten beside them tilted its head, its round eyes full of curiosity as it watched them, letting out a soft meow.

"Quit kissing me," Yu Wei pushed him away. He didn't know how long they'd been kissing today; his lips were numb.

    "Alright, then let's eat."

Yu Wei got up and followed him out. On the dining table was a bouquet of blue roses.

"These are for you. Like them?"

Yu Wei, getting flowers for the first time in both his lives, felt awkward. "They're nice, but why are you giving me flowers? It's not a holiday today."

Shi Ciyan pulled out a chair for him and helped him sit down, explaining, "Today is the first day of me pursuing you, and it's my first time pursuing someone. I figured I should make a gesture, right?"

"Who on earth kisses on the first day of pursuing someone?"

They weren't even together yet, and Shi Ciyan was taking every opportunity to kiss him.

Wasn't that just being a pervert?

Yu Wei glared at him when he thought about it. "Pervert."

After dinner, Yu Wei stayed until 7 PM, and then Shi Ciyan drove him home.

He had taken Shi Ciyan home at noon, and now Shi Ciyan was driving him back. They went back and forth, and when they finally reached the entrance of the Yu family home, they were reluctant to part ways.

After they finally managed to separate and Yu Wei went inside, Bai Sijia was standing at the entrance, arms crossed, frowning at him.

Yu Wei was startled by her appearance. He patted his chest, still flustered, and said as he changed his shoes, "Mom, what are you doing standing at the door?"

"Who brought you here? Where's your car?"

He had driven himself out this morning, but now he was back so late, and someone else had driven him.

Most importantly, the clothes he was wearing.

This top wasn't the one Yu Wei had worn out this morning.

"Shi Ciyan drove me back. I left my car under his apartment building."

He'd wanted to drive himself, but Shi Ciyan insisted on driving him. Yu Wei, on a whim, agreed and left the car under his apartment building.

"Why were you with him? And where are your clothes?"

Yu Wei stammered for a long time without being able to utter a word.

    What could he say?

Could he say the clothes were so fragile they tore with a little pull?

She saw his expression and knew something was up. She sighed helplessly. "Are you in a relationship?"

Yu Wei thought for a moment and then nodded this time.

Although they weren't officially in a relationship yet, they already had a child now, so the progress had already surpassed being in a relationship. It didn't really matter whether they were officially together or not.

Bai Sijia sighed again and waved her hand. "You're not a kid. If you like him, go for it."

    …

The next morning, the housekeeper woke Yu Wei up.

He was still in his pajamas, unwashed, with a messy bedhead. He stumbled downstairs, yawning, and asked, "Mom, why did you wake me up so early in the morning?"

"Not me. Your little boyfriend came to see you." Bai Sijia shook her head at his messy state and reminded him.

"Huh?" Yu Wei was dazed for a while before it hit him that the "little boyfriend" she mentioned was Shi Ciyan. He instantly woke up and stared at the person on the sofa, his eyes widening.

"Good morning, Brother Yuwei," Shi Ciyan greeted him with a smile. "Did you sleep well last night?"

"So-so." Yu Wei snapped back to reality, plopped down beside him, and took An'an from his arms. "What are you doing here so early?"

"I wanted to come see you and the kid."

Yu Wei grunted in acknowledgment and looked down to play with An'an.

"Mostly to see you." Shi Ciyan smiled lightly as he looked at his messy hair. "I missed you."

Shi Ciyan lowered his voice on purpose, but Bai Sijia still heard.

"You two talk. I'm going to my room." Bai Sijia pinched the bridge of her nose, got up, and returned to her room to give them space.

These two were all over each other, their eyes glued to one another. She felt a bit like a third wheel sitting here.

    "Your flowers."

Shi Ciyan had brought him another bunch of blue roses.

Yu Wei asked, "The flowers from yesterday?"

He had forgotten to take them yesterday.

"No, these are new. Yesterday's are still at my place." Shi Ciyan looked up at him. "When will Yuwei be free to come to my place and get them?"

Yu Wei pouted. "Why didn't you bring them back when you came today?"

Shi Ciyan just smiled and said nothing.

They had breakfast at the Yu residence, and after eating, they went out with Yu An.

"If you two are going on a date, leave the kid at home," Bai Sijia reminded them before they left. "If you take An'an out, make sure you watch him carefully."

Yu Wei kept assuring her it wasn't a date—he just wanted to take An'an out because the weather was nice.

Shi Ciyan had come over today exactly because the weather was nice; he wanted to take Yu Wei out for a walk.

Shi Ciyan pushed the stroller with one hand and held Yu Wei's hand with the other. His palm was warm and solid. "So you don't wander off."

"Let go of me. I won't get lost." Yu Wei gave a light tug, but when he couldn't get free, he gave up. Being held by Shi Ciyan sent a strange feeling from his palm spreading throughout his body.

    A tingling numbness—something he'd never felt before.

They walked down the street, occasionally catching stares from passersby. Yu Wei felt a little awkward under their stares.

"Yuwei, you seem nervous," Shi Ciyan teased. "Anyone would think we're sneaking around. Relax."

"I'm not..." Yu Wei pulled his hand free and quickly wiped the sweat from his palm. "I'm just... not used to it."

Shi Ciyan stopped and said, "Then we should hold hands more often. Once you get used to it, it'll be fine."

Yu Wei thought that made sense and proactively took his hand again. "Yeah, I need more practice."

In his world, he was now considered gay. But in this world, he and Shi Ciyan were a perfect match.

So the passersby staring at them—it definitely wasn't because they found it strange.

With that thought, Yu Wei felt more at ease. He took Shi Ciyan's hand and subtly straightened his back.

He had nothing to worry about.

They walked hand in hand, exploring the area. After lunch outside, Shi Ciyan had classes in the afternoon, so he walked them home.

Shi Ciyan said goodbye at the door and left. Yu Wei carried An'an inside, but in the living room, he saw an unexpected person.

Ling Heyu—they hadn't seen each other since he returned to the country.

"Why are you here?" Yu Wei asked, surprised.

He had long since forgotten the drunken words Ling Heyu had said last time, firmly believing they were just friends. So seeing him at the Yu residence didn't bother Yu Wei much.

"I missed An'an's birthday and never got to give him his gift." Ling Heyu stood up and gently hugged Yu Wei and An'an. "Has An'an missed me?"

An'an stared curiously for a moment, then seemed to remember and lunged into his arms.

"Looks like he remembers." Ling Heyu took An'an and poked his chubby cheek. "Since being back home, baby An'an has gotten even chubbier."

Yu Wei and Bai Sijia insisted that Ling Heyu stay for dinner.

That afternoon, they hung out at home and played with An'an.

After coming back to the country, Ling Heyu had been swamped with work.

Before, he had managed to stay in Country D after a long argument with his father to let him remain. But now he suddenly decided to quit that great job in Country D and come back, causing more family opposition.

But he came back anyway, ignoring their objections, which caused some bad blood. These past few days, he'd been dealing with that, settling his job in the country, and only today found time to come see them.

"Yu Wei, what I said last time in Country D—that wasn't just drunk talk. Every word was from the heart."

With Bai Sijia out of the room, Ling Heyu quickly explained why he came. "I've been thinking a lot these days. I think I shouldn't give up. At least I need to try."

After that confession, he knew Yu Wei always saw him as just a friend, never considering him as a partner.

But that's okay. Now that Yu Wei was starting to consider him, giving him a chance to show what he could offer and try—that was enough.

He couldn't stand being eliminated without even trying.

Yu Wei had wanted to forget what happened back then, but now Ling Heyu's words made him remember all over again.

But remembering how he'd said he didn't like Alphas and only liked Omegas, Yu Wei couldn't help feeling guilty.

Although he only liked Shi Ciyan, Shi Ciyan was still an Alpha. Last time, he had confidently told Ling Heyu that he and Shi Ciyan could never be together. Now he'd gone back on his word and was with Shi Ciyan. Yu Wei didn't know what Ling Heyu would think.

But it was impossible to keep hidden. As a friend, Ling Heyu would find out sooner or later.

    Better to come clean himself.

Once he confessed, maybe Ling Heyu could finally move on.

Yu Wei took a deep breath, running through his words a few times in his head before speaking. "Ling Heyu, I have a boyfriend."

As soon as he said it, the atmosphere froze.

Ling Heyu asked, stunned, "Didn't you say you weren't into guys?"

"I just like him," Yu Wei said through gritted teeth. "Gender doesn't matter."

Whether Shi Ciyan was an Alpha, Omega, or Beta, Yu Wei thought he'd still like him.

A bitter smile tugged at Ling Heyu's lips. "Do I know him?"
