Chapter 185: The End of the Main Text

Half a month has passed since that phone call.

That day, Han Lan told Shu Fu over the phone that it was because of the Drift Island House with a protective shield that they all survived this time. At the most critical moment, their vehicle broke down, and the entire team was trapped in an abandoned village near the mountains.

They were ambushed at midnight, and it was an air raid with bombs. Fortunately, they were all aboard Han Lan's raft at the time, and the activated protective shield blocked all attacks.

If it weren't for this, even if someone was on guard during the night, they wouldn't have been able to withstand the sudden air raid. Thankfully, he brought his raft, and thankfully, the raft had such a special ability...

Shu Fu could hear the sadness and emotion in Han Lan's voice. For people like them who are always on the front lines, companions and teammates are paramount. The incident in Bencheng will always haunt him. He cannot forget it, nor does he want to forget it. He will always remember it, constantly reminding himself not to repeat the mistakes he made.

Even though in the eyes of Shu Fu, Cheng Yu, Liu Shuang, and all the other teammates, he did nothing wrong in this matter, he still won't let himself off the hook.

"This hurdle he has to get over himself, and if it were me, I wouldn't be able to get over it easily either..." Liu Shuang sighed after the call ended.

This call was a call to reassure Shu Fu, mainly to let her know about Cheng Yu's situation. The war is not over yet, and they can only communicate briefly. Although the Drift Island House is good, they can't hide in it forever. What they need is to take the initiative and fight.

But Han Lan also said that he remembers the time limit of the Drift Island House vacation card and will definitely return safely before that—with Cheng Yu. No matter what, receiving this call today is good news for all of them.

Although Shu Fu knows the outcome of this incident, she, like everyone else, is not clear about the fates of Cheng Yu, Han Lan, and the other comrades who participated in this incident, especially Cheng Yu. This time, the person he faced was his father—at least in terms of blood.

Cheng Yu's heart should not be much lighter than Han Lan's, but he remained silent on the phone, just like before. He was afraid of worrying her because he had been missing for too long. He felt remorse for always keeping her waiting.

His words, "I will come back alive to see her," are more like a hope than a promise.

Without too many demands, he just wants to live to see her again, to embrace her with his own hands. This is the only obsession he can't let go of amidst the gunfire and life and death.

    **

In the following days, she patiently awaited news while taking the raft island around the southeast corner of the Fengshang Plateau, drifting near the southeastern waters of the last piece of land on this planet.

Now, every day at a fixed time outside of everyone's working hours, she connects to the satellite network for an hour.

Due to this incident, parts of Xizhou Province have become war zones, and the network has been mostly interrupted. However, the safe zones and other non-war zone officials are still trying to maintain the network. The main purpose of these signals is disaster prevention and disaster type level notifications. There are also some new positive scientific research notifications, such as updated rainproof materials, the successful development of a new generation of fish scale disease vaccine, and another batch of airdrop supplies to be dropped near the war zone at a certain time...

In the now crowded and humid Xizhou Province, the residents forced to flee once more by the new wave of war are easily driven to despair and lose the motivation to survive by the grim reality. Therefore, these efforts to maintain the network are particularly important, at least letting the Chinese people trapped in a small building know that the officials still exist, are still working hard, and the Chinese soldiers are still fighting for peace...

Shu Fu connects to this hour of the network not only because she wants to keep an eye on the situation on land but also to let the residents on the raft know about the situation outside the raft island.

Some people tend to quickly forget the past in a peaceful and comfortable life and lose the will to strive. She wants the residents still living in the shelter to know that the tranquility on the raft island does not reflect the planet's actual state.

It is still the apocalypse, and the situation on land is very bad. There are still disasters like food crises waiting for them in the future. Before the raft island is fully developed, they must not become complacent.

Because there is no need to travel now, the Drift Island House is simply drifting, so Shu Fu temporarily fixed the house type as a vacation villa.

Although her Drift Island House still cannot let her companions in, this style features a spacious rear deck and balcony. When other raft residents want to connect to the network, there is enough space for them to board the deck or enter the balcony at the same time.

Regarding visitors, although she now has her memory back, it is still not very clear.

Because when it was designed, safety was the first consideration, so the special ability of the Drift Island House only gave the three keywords "disaster resistance, constant temperature, exclusion." Mainly, her energy at the time was focused on designing various rewards, and the remaining details were filled in by the backup system itself...

In the past half month, Chen Fa's Lighthouse Milk Tea Shop and Hua Qiong's underwater snack store have been upgraded.

The milk tea shop's exterior remains largely unchanged. After the upgrade, the building height has increased, and there are now two height adjustments: one is the previous height, and the other is the higher height after the upgrade.

After the building rises, a viewing window has been installed within the "cylinder." Those using the internal stairs can pause and admire the outdoor scenery. An elevator has also been added inside. In addition to the two viewing stairs inside and outside, people can now take the internal elevator directly to the milk tea shop, solving the problem of some lazy people not wanting to climb stairs.

The biggest change in the milk tea shop is the interior. The production area behind the counter has been enhanced, and the original milk tea machines now appear fully automated. Several coffee machines, baking machines, and ice cream machines have also been added.

The name of the milk tea shop has also changed to "Milk Tea Bakery House." She anticipates it will primarily specialize in a variety of sweet beverages, bread, cakes, and desserts in the future.

In addition to the newly added coffee machines, baking machines, and ice cream machines, there are also several more professional machines for making milk tea and fruit tea. However, a problem quickly arose: there were too many machines, and the raw materials couldn’t keep up. After recent operations, all the raft's stock was used up.

Fortunately, Shu Fu drew two red first-prize upgrade set companion packages this time, and she quickly used them on the "Bubble Tea Bakery."

A prompt appeared on the screen again.

[Note: Since "Chen Fa's Raft" has been upgraded with a special set, the upgrade set companion package (universal) will automatically generate renewable resources upon activation. Resources will refresh after use within the 90-day period.

Please confirm the above content and then confirm the use of the upgrade set companion package (universal).]

Renewable resources? Was it what she thought?

Sure enough, all the machines in the Bubble Tea Bakery could now be operated with a button press. Not only did they not require raw materials to be filled, but there was also no limit to the number of cups within the 90 days.

Of course, the button sequences for different types of milk tea, fruit tea, and coffee were all different. Initially, unfamiliarity led to mistakes, requiring study and adaptation.

However, the unlimited number of cups also meant that the business hours could be extended. Therefore, Chen Fa recruited several more employees and changed the operating hours of the Bubble Tea Bakery to 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., open seven days a week.

Unlike before, residents now enjoyed unlimited milk tea, coffee, bread, and ice cream.

Because of this, the number of residents going to the park and the pool increased daily. After all, those were high-calorie foods. In the past, everyone was afraid of not having enough to eat, but now they were afraid of eating too much and becoming unhealthy, so they needed more exercise to burn off the extra sugar.

Meanwhile, Hua Qiong's snack shop upgraded to a three-times larger underwater restaurant.

The restaurant's interior transformed from cozy to formal with a fashionable design. Each dining table now had an ordering screen, allowing guests to sit and order directly, unlike the previous method of standing in line to order.

Recently, the raft stayed in deep waters. The water here was vast and endless, much clearer and cleaner, with a blue hue. Different species of fish could often be seen in the water, and the frequency of guests opening the blinds in the restaurant increased significantly.

In the kitchen, the number of meal types that the automatic meal preparation machine could record at the same time increased to thirty, so Hua Qiong no longer needed to spend time frequently changing the menu.

Since the restaurant could accommodate more guests at the same time, the number of employees also increased.

Many residents of the shelter, due to the increased number of working days, received more raft currency points, so quite a few people had moved out of the shelter and into the hotel.

Life was getting better and better. The greenhouse and the livestock farm frequently harvested, storing a large batch of fresh vegetables, fruits, and meat in the warehouse.

After checking the inventory, Shu Fu felt she could soon negotiate material exchange with the authorities. The matters of the Drifting Island website and the invitation letters were also almost ready to be put on the agenda.

    **

Another early morning, Shu Fu was awakened by the bright light falling on her face.

She turned over in bed, intending to go back to sleep, but soon noticed something and turned back.

Sure enough, the next moment, her face and body were bathed in the morning sunlight. Due to the long period of rain, the sky outside the water area was usually gray and overcast, so Shu Fu usually only drew half the curtains before going to bed. By the time the morning passed and the sky brightened in the late morning, she would automatically wake up in such brightness.

But today, it wasn’t raining outside.

It was already early winter, and the Drifting Island house, along with the raft island, was drifting on the deep waters. The water surface outside was unusually calm without wind or rain. The morning sunlight shone down, and the water surface sparkled.

The rare good weather reminded her of her days drifting alone on the water.

After washing up, she changed the Drifting Island house back to its small original form. Just like in those days, she set up breakfast under the eaves of the front door, listening to music and gazing at the endless water outside the raft, enjoying the quiet and leisurely time.

After the meal, while she was leaning back in the recliner with her eyes closed, the satellite phone beside her rang again. It was an unfamiliar number.

She answered, and Cheng Yu's voice came through: "Xiao Fu, we're about to head back. Which direction should we go?"

Shu Fu sat up. Cheng Yu was asking her where the raft was currently located and which direction on land they should head to be closer to her. She thought for a moment and asked in return, "Where are you in Xizhou Province?"

    "Seventy kilometers north of Bancheng."

Shu Fu was familiar with this direction, as it was closer to the shipbuilding base near the plateau basin. If they left at the same time, meeting there would be the shortest route for Cheng Yu and Han Lan.

As she headed back inside and walked over to the control screen, she said to the other party, "Head to the shipbuilding base, the spot where I previously dropped Han Lan off. I'll come to pick you up!"

The person on the other end chuckled softly, "Got it."

A day later, by the waterfront near the shipbuilding base.

When the car appeared on the shore, the first person to notice was Lu Zheng.

His emotions were mixed—admiration and joy, but also an unspoken bitterness.

But he had been working on letting go, even though he had the opportunity to learn the truth about the world from Shu Fu before, he chose to temporarily not listen, just like the others.

He hoped to fully move on from Shu Fu before his memories came back, so that when he regained all the memories of the other world and remembered his past obsession with her, he wouldn't be trapped in it, causing trouble for her or himself.

So, he quickly notified Shu Fu.

Two minutes later, Shu Fu stepped ashore by herself.

Heavy rain poured down by the waterfront, thunder rumbled overhead, and the weather was clearly taking a turn for the worse.

Shu Fu activated her portable protective shield, so she didn't use an umbrella or wear heavy winter clothes, just a long cardigan, and came out.

The shield kept the rain at bay, but the downpour outside still obscured the surroundings.

Up ahead, the car's swaying lights came to a halt, and she heard footsteps coming from the car in the rain. The rain was too heavy, and the muddy ground was slippery, making each step difficult for the person.

She spotted a familiar tall figure in the car's headlights, and after confirming who it was, she quickly ran towards them. Protected by the shield, she sprinted much faster than the other person.

Suddenly, Shu Fu was reminded of their last reunion, when he had run towards her so quickly.

So, this is what it feels like to be the one running...

The sound of her quick steps made Cheng Yu hesitate for a second. He saw her running towards him through the rain, instinctively dropping the raincoat he was about to wear, and opened his arms. The next moment, he tightly embraced the person who had run to him.

The rain, the cold, and the wetness vanished, leaving only the warmth and softness of her in his arms.

"I'm back," he tightly held her waist.

    **

    A few days later.

The authorities got an email from the "Owner of the Drift Island Shelter." The letter was brief, but the two pieces of news it contained left them stunned.

The first piece of news was that the owner claimed responsibility for all the information and warnings previously posted on the official network about the deep-sea weather, the Devil's Waters, and volcanic eruptions. Through this, they expressed their stance that, although they were detached from the mainland, they still cared about the people of Huaxia.

This was a direct and friendly approach, no beating around the bush.

The second piece of news was that the "Owner of the Drift Island Shelter" wanted to make a deal with the authorities before winter set in. They had a batch of fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, and fish, and wanted to trade for some electronic and textile products.

A detailed list was attached, and it was noted that any differing opinions could be discussed further via email.

As for the trading location, the letter only mentioned a suitable waterfront for now, and stated that the detailed location could be decided after both parties officially agreed on the trade.

The letter added that this was their first trade, and the amount of goods was fairly small. If the trading process went smoothly and both parties were satisfied, they could continue to choose a fixed time for long-term trading in the future.

The term "Drift Island Shelter" had indeed been heard by the authorities recently, as it had spread from the survivor settlement area in the northern plateau. Along with it came related information about white wristbands. It was said that wearing such a wristband would make one a member of the Drift Island Shelter, under its protection, and allow them to receive food and water, as well as have their own bed in the floating shelter.

They had privately recorded this information, but so far, there wasn't much news, and all of it was positive, so they hadn't paid much attention or vigilance to the matter.

Given the instability in Xizhou Province, with numerous land-based issues to address, they haven't been able to shift their focus. They were surprised when the other party reached out first, in such a friendly way.

    Are they proposing a trade?

Offering fresh produce, meats, and fish? The exact quantity referred to as "a batch" is unclear, but these are the most scarce resources on land, regardless of the amount.

Despite skepticism, the authorities decided to proceed with the trade.

The global situation is deteriorating. Even if skeptical, they must seize any opportunity to try.

After all, there are now many individuals with special abilities. If the private sector has gathered many of them, such a feat isn't impossible with time and effort.

Unbeknownst to them, the authorities had made the right choice. A new future would begin with this trade.

    **

    December, in the deep waters.

That morning, after Shu Fu had washed up, she opened the screen and made a raft-wide announcement.

She announced a new drift southward. She urged all residents to prepare and stay safe during the drift.

Winter is fast approaching. Last year, Shu Fu was in Weixian County, unaware of the impending severe snowstorm and temperature drop.

During the coldest times, she had heard Yao Ruoyun's future dreams.

She's unsure if the temperature will drop this winter, but she aims to fulfill her past wish—to drift freely on the deep sea with everyone, heading south to warmer waters for winter.

Hearing cheers, Shu Fu walked up to the second-floor balcony. Leaning on the railing, she set the destination on the map panel and confirmed.

The Drift Island House set off again, towing rafts towards the southern waters.

    A new journey was underway.

I really enjoyed the story. The pacing was fast but not rushed. The plot was solid and there were plenty of cliffhangers at the end of chapters that made you refresh the site to see, if there was a new chapter uploaded.

I do hope they upload the extras as I really enjoy the “behind the scenes” and “where are they now” titbits.

    Note
