Chapter 14 Yu Xing Goes Mad—She Won't Even Spare the Monster

The buses in this world shared some similarities with those in Yu Xing’s world—namely, the driver’s compartment was separated from the rest of the vehicle by a partition.

Unlike on Earth, however, the driver’s seat here was completely sealed off. The entire compartment was enclosed by a transparent, 360-degree isolation panel, so tight not even water could seep through.

    "Let me... out..."

The monster before them was swelling, its distended body quickly outgrowing the cramped driver’s seat.

The isolation panel was sturdy. Despite the monster’s claws slamming heavily against it, only two sharp talons managed to pierce through before getting stuck. For the moment, the barrier held firm, leaving the monster temporarily trapped.

Yu Xing, pulling the injured girl along, watched in shock. Was this real? Could people in this world transform?

Then she realized. Of course. The seniors in the Transmigrator Exchange Forum were either cultivating immortality or practicing magic. As a transmigrator herself, her new world couldn’t possibly be any less extraordinary than theirs.

While her thoughts wandered, the passengers at the back of the bus noticed the commotion. Screams of panic broke out as people scrambled from their seats, rushing toward the exit.

Someone immediately tried calling for help using their communication device, only to find no signal.

    "Let me... out!"

The twisted human face on the monster’s body distorted as it emitted a pained cry.

Its other claw slammed repeatedly against the isolation panel, web-like cracks spreading across the transparent surface with each strike.

Simultaneously, the entire bus began to change. Passengers crowded around the rear door, but no one could open it. Some gave up on the door and turned to smashing the windows instead.

Yet the bus’s interior was transforming—flesh-like textures spread across the floor, walls, and ceiling, turning soft and pinkish. The surfaces grew uneven, and Yu Xing realized with horror that the bus seemed to have come alive, as if they were now trapped inside the belly of a massive creature.

    "Help!!"

    "Save us..."

Passengers screamed desperately, but pale, rib-like bars sprouted across the windows and doors. No matter how hard they pounded, the glass wouldn’t break.

    "Let me out!"

The monster that was once the driver finally managed a complete sentence.

By now, it had fully transformed—its body had morphed into that of a giant bird, covered in black feathers, save for its still-human head.

Its crimson eyes glared venomously ahead as its razor-sharp talons struck the isolation panel with full force. It gaped its maw wide, releasing a roar of agony.

    "Let me out!"

The sight was unbearably horrifying. Trapped passengers broke down, clutching each other and sobbing as they screamed for help.

    "Let me out!!"

    "Let me out!!!"

Their voices merged with the monster’s, indistinguishable from one another.

Yu Xing watched as the isolation panel neared total collapse. After a moment’s thought, she dragged the injured girl toward the back of the bus. The floor was soft and sticky, emitting repulsive squishing sounds with every step. Lifting her foot left strands of slime clinging to her soles.

Most passengers were piled up near the rear door, forming a human pile. Yu Xing maneuvered past them, hauling the injured girl over seats until they reached the very back.

Among the crowd were the four students who had boarded with Yun Dai—but Yun Dai herself was missing.

She was crouched alone in the farthest corner, knees drawn to her chest, face buried in her arms as she muttered something under her breath.

Yu Xing listened closely and realized she was repeating the same phrase: "Don’t be affected... don’t be affected..."

"Don’t be affected by what?" Yu Xing set the injured girl down on a nearby seat and turned to Yun Dai curiously.

Yun Dai froze, lifting her head to reveal a ghostly pale face.

Terror filled her eyes as she stared at Yu Xing, her earlier hostility completely forgotten. "Don’t be affected," she whispered. "If you’re affected... it’s over."

What did that mean? Yu Xing frowned. "What do you mean by 'affected'?"

    CRASH!

With a deafening shatter, the isolation panel finally gave way. The bird-bodied, human-headed monster stepped out from the driver’s seat.

"Let me out!" it bellowed, its voice raw with pain.

"Let us out!!" The passengers shouted as one, their cries just as desperate.

    "Let me out!!!"

"Ah!" Yun Dai shrieked, burying her head and covering her ears tightly.

"Let us out!!" The monster’s claws raked across the bus’s meat-like walls, tearing open a gaping wound that splattered fluids and torn flesh.

Yet within moments, the wound oozed thick liquid and knit itself back together, the flesh regrowing even thicker than before.

    "Let me out!!"

As the monster roared, the passengers’ cries became more frantic.

    "Let me out!!!"

Gradually, their voices synchronized with the monster’s.

Yu Xing watched in horror as one of Yun Dai’s companions—unable to push forward—was shoved beneath a seat. Her pretty face contorted, turning crimson as she screamed, "Let me out!"

Something squirmed under her skin, straining to break free from her pores.

    She wasn’t the only one.

    Black filaments pushed through—feathers.

"Help..." Yun Dai’s trembling voice came to Yu Xing. "Mom, Dad, save me... Let me out... No! Can’t be affected..."

Yu Xing frowned harder. Though she didn’t completely understand the situation, she knew this couldn’t continue. The monster wasn’t attacking—just screaming and destroying the bus alongside the passengers.

But she sensed danger. The passengers were turning into monsters themselves.

First the screaming, then the black feathers... Would they all turn into bird-human hybrids?

She wasn't experiencing anything unusual herself, and Yun Dai and the injured girl still seemed normal. But Yu Xing knew that if they stayed, Yun Dai would end up like the others. She was beginning to comprehend what "being affected" meant.

Even if she didn’t like Yun Dai, Yun Dai was deeply in love with her. Regardless, Yu Xing couldn’t abandon someone who felt that way about her.

Yu Xing made up her mind—she’d save Yun Dai—no matter what!

"No fear!" Yu Xing's voice was steely. "I'm here."

Yun Dai went rigid, lifting her head to gape in confusion at Yu Xing.

By now, the passengers had grown thick, pitch-black feathers, their bodies warping grotesquely. Talons burst through their feet, tearing through their shoes.

    Their arms contorted, turning wing-like.

The moment Yu Xing stepped toward them, all the frenzied passengers—including the monster—instantly stopped screaming.

The monster and the passengers froze in place, their human faces on bird bodies swiveling in unison. Over twenty pairs of malicious, tormented eyes locked onto Yu Xing.

For the first time, Yu Xing felt a chill run down her spine. *Why are they looking at me like that?* And their gazes... they almost resembled the heartbroken, vengeful stare of those overbearing CEOs from romance novels.

*Stop overthinking it!* Yu Xing shook her head vigorously. She couldn’t even handle relationships with human women, let alone monsters.

She wanted to get Yun Dai out of the bus, and the key lay with the driver. She’d encountered him several times before, and he’d been acting strange since yesterday. If she could deal with him, maybe all this weirdness would end?

Yu Xing didn’t know how to deal with the driver, but she had her Broomstick Star ability.

Though it had never been useful before, she had no other options. She had to try—she refused to turn into a bird-human hybrid. *Too ugly. If I became like that, Gu Ya and Mei Hexuan would definitely ditch me, right?*

The monster and passengers stared at Yu Xing in unnerving silence before suddenly erupting in unison:

    "Let me out!!"

    "Let me out!!!"

    "Let me ou—"

Their voices seethed with raw emotion—agony, terror, resentment, desperation.

As if this bus were some nightmarish prison, meant to trap them forever.

Luckily, they only screamed at Yu Xing without attacking. Carefully, she slipped past the feathered passengers until she stood before the monster.

Though also avian-bodied and human-headed, the monster was far larger than the others.

When Yu Xing approached, it stopped shouting, lowering its head to fix its blood-red eyes on her.

Was it her imagination, or did the monster’s gaze differ from the passengers’?

Theirs held only malice and pain, blank and lifeless. But this monster... Yu Xing thought she glimpsed something human in its eyes.

The two locked gazes before the monster slowly raised a massive, razor-sharp claw.

*Is it about to hit me?* Yu Xing decided to act first. In a flash, she reached out and touched the monster’s body.

    "Broomstick Star Level 1: 47/250."

Her hand met cold, black feathers that twitched unnaturally.

One feather detached, landing on her palm. It twitched, its root burrowing toward her skin as if trying to burrow into her skin.

Frowning, Yu Xing flicked it away and touched the monster again.

    "Broomstick Star Level 1: 48/250."

She sped up, relentlessly petting the creature.

    "Broomstick Star Level 1: 49/250."

    "Broomstick Star Level 1: 50/250."

    "Broomstick Star Level 1: 51/250."

    "Broomstick Star Level 1: 52/250..."

"Let me... No!" Yun Dai’s mind fogged over, her thoughts instinctively reaching for Yu Xing. *Yu Xing said she’s here. Yu Xing said...*

She lifted her head—and witnessed a sight she would never forget.

In that instant, her muddled mind cleared instantly. *What is she seeing?!*

Yun Dai stared in disbelief. Yu Xing... was *petting* the monster! Had Yu Xing truly lost her mind? First, she kissed her out of nowhere, and now she had the nerve to pet a monster—over and over, no less!
