Chapter 141 Beloved (Part 3) Yu Xing, you tricked me again!...

Yu Xing knew that the person before her was absolutely not the real Yu He. But for now, she couldn’t determine whether this was an illusion or something else.

As Yu He approached, Yu Xing gripped the Sword of the Lake and swung it forward.

    ...

Everything went dark again, and Yu Xing raised a hand to cover her eyes. The flickering between light and dark was giving her a headache.

She was back in reality again, this time without even waiting for the giant beast to appear.

But this was intentional—she was testing a theory.

Before, inside what she thought was an illusion, she had always managed to exit the space after attacking the giant beast. However, that was all it did—she merely escaped, while the space itself remained unresolved, and the giant beast wasn’t truly killed. The beast would just come back next time.

Yu Xing frowned. Her magic staff’s strongest move, the Sword of the Lake, and even her Broomstick Star Skill were all attacks that even a Level 6 Divine Favored couldn’t withstand. Was that giant beast seriously tougher than a Level 6 Divine Favored?

It hit her: maybe not only was the space an illusion, but the giant beast itself was also a phantom.

A phantom wouldn’t even flinch at the Broomstick Star Skill, nor could it be killed. So each time she left the space, it wasn’t because she had attacked the beast, but because she had directly attacked the space itself, disrupting it enough to escape.

That was why, just now, Yu Xing hadn’t waited for the giant beast to appear. Instead, she had immediately drawn the Sword of the Lake and struck at the empty air. Bingo. She was out.

This confirmed that the giant beast was indeed a phantom.

But here’s the thing: according to the records, not only had the workers who’d lost their minds claimed to have seen a monster, but even the construction robots had been torn apart by some kind of beast. This meant that while the giant beast Yu Xing saw was a phantom, the beast itself did exist in reality.

There was one more thing Yu Xing couldn’t figure out—why hadn’t she seen Miao Yuanjin or Wei Tao in that space?

    ...

Miao Yuanjin was hiding in a dilapidated house. The owner wasn’t home, so she had smashed a window and climbed inside.

She crouched in a corner, arms wrapped tightly around herself, head bowed, not daring to make a sound.

    "Hah..."

Outside, the heavy panting of a beast grew closer. Miao Yuanjin’s heart pounded violently with fear. She cursed herself for coming—if she had known this mission would be so dangerous, she wouldn’t have come...

She held her breath until the noises outside died down, then finally let out a small sigh of relief.

Miao Yuanjin lifted her head and listened carefully. Only after confirming that there were no more growls or footsteps did she dare to push herself up against the wall.

She had no clue where Wei Tao or that Wang Zuxian had vanished to. She had to get herself out of this. But there was a problem—being a Moon God Chosen, she sucked at keeping herself alive. Even if she wanted to escape, she had no idea how.

Heart racing, she crept toward the window, preparing to leave before the owner returned. Suddenly, a huge, blood-red eye pressed against the window, staring straight at her.

Miao Yuanjin’s blood turned to ice.

The eye lingered on her for a moment before withdrawing. Then, a black claw tipped with sharp talons reached through the window.

    Moon God, help me!

Miao Yuanjin screamed in her head, turning to flee.

She rushed to the door, but it was locked from the outside. In a panic, she bashed another window and was about to climb out when another claw reached in.

"Oh god!" Miao Yuanjin yelped, spinning around and scrambling to a corner just out of reach.

    "Ha..."

Raspy breaths boomed overhead, suggesting the giant beast perched on the rooftop, its mouth agape with greedy drool. In the next moment, it might just bite through the roof and pluck Miao Yuanjin out like shellfish meat.

In that instant, Miao Yuanjin replayed her short life of just over a decade. She pulled out her terminal, activated the recording function, and spoke into the lens: "Grandpa, Mom, Dad, uncles, aunts... I'm about to die. I need to tell you all something before I die..."

Just as she was recording her last words, the terrifying noises outside suddenly ceased. Even the beast's claw that had reached through the window disappeared.

At the same time, she heard a familiar voice, "Wait, isn't this thing totally an illusion?"

    ...

After realizing the giant beast was an illusion, Yu Xing once again raised her hammer and re-entered the illusion.

She figured: if the beast was just an illusion, there was nothing to fear. She could ignore it and stay inside to search for clues.

Once inside, she began moving around randomly.

Before long, the giant beast appeared again.

This time, Yu Xing remained calm. Holding her hammer with one hand, she held her ground as the beast charged toward her.

Yet, when the beast truly lunged, its rotten breath made her heart race uncontrollably. She dropped the hammer and dodged swiftly.

Then she watched in horror as the beast snapped the hammer in half with a single bite. It then turned, its crimson eyes glaring at Yu Xing, gathering to pounce again.

Yu Xing's blood ran cold. Wasn’t this supposed to be an illusion? How could it shatter a hammer?

If she hadn’t dodged, she would have...

Cold sweat drenched her as she turned and fled. While running, she frantically tried to figure out her next move.

Leaving the space meant abandoning all progress. Staying meant being hunted by the beast. She couldn’t even fight it, as attacking would automatically eject her from the space.

Moreover, as she dashed through the slums within this space, she found no trace of the pollution source—or of Miao Yuanjin or Wei Tao.

She kicked herself—she should have upgraded her Broomstick Star Skill to Level 4 before returning to Seven Cities.

At Level 4, Broomstick Star let her see the luck of living beings. Illusions had no luck. With a single glance, she could distinguish illusions from real creatures.

Just then, she spotted a house ahead.

It was a familiar sight—every time she re-entered the space, she found herself in front of that very house. Miao Yuanjin’s words echoed in her mind: in the entire slum, this house bore the heaviest pollution.

Though nothing seemed outwardly strange about it, the severe pollution had to have a cause. Yu Xing made a decision then: before leaving the illusion, she would at least investigate that house.

From what she knew, an old man lived there. No—there were likely others inside. The old man always gave instructions to someone in the house before leaving. Yu Xing had once heard faint, a child's whimper—perhaps there was also a child inside.

Behind her, the giant beast lowered its head, its eyes locked onto Yu Xing’s zigzagging path. It bared its fangs, ready to strike at any moment.

Spotting an opening, Yu Xing raised her magic wand and let loose a lightning bolt at the crumbling shack ahead.

    *"Avada Kendagua!"*

    "Boom!"

The lightning struck, shattering the house’s front door.

"Grrr!" The beast snapped. Claws tearing at the dirt, its fanged jaws lunging for Yu Xing.

Yu Xing felt like she had never run so fast in either of her lives. The moment she dashed through the door, she even felt the giant beast's teeth brush her butt.

She had expected to see the whole inside of the shack upon entering—perhaps even a child inside, though she might also encounter something terrifying.

But the moment she rushed in, everything went blurry.

Blinking, she found herself standing outside the same house again. The shabby little hut looked exactly as before, its door completely intact.

    What in the world...?

Yu Xing thought she was seeing things and rubbed them, only to confirm that the house was indeed unchanged, the door undamaged, and she was unmistakably standing outside.

The earlier events—destroying the door with lightning and charging inside—felt like a dream.

Soon, she realized it wasn’t a dream, as the familiar beast's heavy breathing sounded behind her. Turning around, she saw the giant beast right there.

Just as she was about to run forward, she stopped dead in her tracks—another giant beast stood ahead of her.

The one behind her stared intently, while the one in front crouched low, its front claws rooting through something in a house.

Yu Xing suddenly understood. "This thing's not just an illusion?" she exclaimed in disbelief.

At her cry, the beast ahead turned its head and fixed its gaze on her.

Yu Xing now grasped the truth: the giant beast wasn’t purely an illusion. In this weird place, it had a physical form—capable of attacking and being attacked. However, if Yu Xing used power beyond what this strange space could withstand, she would be kicked back to reality.

In other words, she could fight the beast, but only within the limits of this place’s tolerance.

The realization left her pissed off. This was the first time she’d fought under such constraints.

She had the strength to easily defeat this monster, yet she couldn’t unleash it fully—forced instead to dodge and flee.

Previously, only one beast had chased her. Now, there were two.

She didn’t yet understand why another had appeared, but survival came first. Yu Xing hurled another lightning bolt, shattered a door, and swiftly slipped inside.

Inside, she found an ordinary house cluttered with junk, a bed pressed against the wall.

The state of the house didn’t matter—what did was that she’d successfully entered. It meant not all houses here were inaccessible; only that one troublesome one existed.

Being pursued by one beast had already been perilous. Now, with two hunting her, even Yu Xing’s fancy footwork couldn’t save her. She had no choice but to whip out her broomstick from her storage ring and took off like a rocket.

After the beasts left, Miao Yuanjin nervously peeked out the window and spotted two monsters outside, looked like they were after something.

Combined with the earlier noises, she was certain—someone had arrived. A companion.

She squinted to make out who it was—Wei Tao? Wang Zuxian?

Then, a figure went shooting upward, riding that familiar broomstick...

Even without seeing the face, Miao Yuanjin knew exactly who it was.

"Yu Xing!!" She smacked her leg. "So it’s you!"

Without thinking, she climbed out the window, stood her ground outside, and pointed furiously at the sky. "Holy crap! Yu Xing! How dare you come back?!"

    "You liar!!"

"Wang Zuxian? Yeah right! You lied to me again!!"

Yu Xing’s grip almost lost her grip mid-air. Looking down, she saw who else but Miao Yuanjin shaking her fist upward.

Her heart soared—she’d finally found Miss Miao.
