Chapter 126 Found Grandma! A Strange Little Girl
byChapter 126: Grandma Found! A Peculiar Little Girl
Yu Xing: "..."
Yu Xing lightly scratched her head. She never imagined that the person she had so carefully chosen would have such a colorful romantic life.
Fortunately, the elevator doors opened just then, rescuing the flustered Yu Xing.
Since it was working hours, many people entered the elevator. Yu Xing squeezed in, pressed the button for her floor, and waited quietly inside.
She didn't know what condition Grandma was in, but she guessed Grandma was likely not in mortal danger. As Miao Nianzhen had said, Grandma had completely merged with the seed, which could sprout at any moment and rapidly grow into a giant tree. So, the research center probably wouldn't dare harm Grandma.
She imagined various scenarios of meeting Grandma—perhaps Grandma was still conscious, or perhaps she was in a coma. With soldiers and Divine Chosen everywhere, getting Grandma out from under their noses would be incredibly difficult.
Just as she was lost in thought, someone suddenly threw an arm around her shoulders. "Come on, why are you spacing out?"
Go? Yu Xing turned her head. What floor was this? She still had a long way to go to her destination.
"No..." Yu Xing struggled to stay. "I haven't arrived yet."
"What do you mean, 'not yet'?" The hand unceremoniously yanked Yu Xing out. "Are you stupid? Our lab is right here."
The elevator doors closed behind her, leaving Yu Xing standing stunned in the hallway.
Looking ahead, the corridor was lined with transparent labs on both sides, filled with various animals scampering around.
The blue-haired man grinned foolishly and shook Yu Xing’s shoulders. "Pan Dada, why are you so distracted today?"
A blonde beauty swept past them, giving Yu Xing a sympathetic glance. "Don't bother him. He just got rejected and is in a bad mood."
"Huh?" The blue-haired man's face lit up with gossip. "Who? Who rejected him?"
"Me," the blonde beauty said, then elegantly walked past them.
Yu Xing turned around. She couldn't stay here. This place clearly didn't look like where her grandma would be.
As soon as she turned, the blue-haired man grabbed her back, slinging an arm over her shoulder. "Everyone knows Kristin isn't interested in humans. There's nothing to be sad about getting rejected by her. Why don't you do what I did and buy a beautiful robot? I'm telling you, they're super useful. When I get old, it can even be a nanny robot—very cost-effective..."
Yu Xing was exasperated. "Can you let go of me?"
"No," the blue-haired man said. "You can't just give up on yourself because of a breakup. If we're late, Director Wang won't let you off the hook."
Left with no choice, Yu Xing followed him into a lab filled with various animals.
On the way, Yu Xing asked, "There are so many soldiers in the research center today. Do you know why?"
"No idea," the blue-haired man shrugged. "I've lost all curiosity after doing research for so long."
Yu Xing was frantic, looking around for a chance to escape. But the place was crowded, with Pan Dada's colleagues constantly passing by, leaving her no opportunity.
Just then, a middle-aged man with deep nasolabial folds appeared before them. The blue-haired man immediately released Yu Xing and straightened up. "Good morning, Director Wang."
So this was Director Wang? The one who had harassed Pan Dada?
Director Wang's gloomy eyes fixed on them before he forced a smile. "So cheerful this early. What are you two talking about?"
"Uh..." The blue-haired man awkwardly fumbled for an excuse. "We... we were just..."
"We were just talking about you," Yu Xing said with a smile. "About you harassing me. He said everyone in the lab knows about it."
Blue-haired man: "?!"
Director Wang's expression twisted instantly. "Nonsense!"
Then he glared at the blue-haired man as if he wanted to devour him whole.
The blue-haired man was completely taken aback, staring at Yu Xing in disbelief, unable to comprehend why he had been betrayed.
"Heh heh," Director Wang let out a cold chuckle from deep in his chest. Instead of exploding on the spot, he said to Yu Xing, "Pan Dada, come with me."
Yu Xing followed Director Wang to the men's restroom. The moment they stepped inside, she tensed up. She had seen this kind of story—a domineering director and a pathetic employee in a bathroom showdown—in certain island nation action films.
As Director Wang turned to lock the door, Yu Xing was filled with regret. Out of so many people she could have chosen, why Pan Dada? His chaotic emotional life was adding so much unnecessary trouble.
Once the door was locked, Director Wang spun around and snapped at Yu Xing, "What's wrong with you? Even if you don't want to give me the research data, you don't have to go around spreading rumors, do you? Don't you know that Secretary Wang, who manages the research center, is my cousin?"
Yu Xing's jaw slowly dropped. So it wasn't a romantic entanglement after all. She breathed a sigh of relief, but she also truly didn't want to delay any longer.
"Director, let's shake hands," Yu Xing said, directly grabbing Director Wang's hand.
Director Wang was about to erupt in anger when suddenly, his face froze over.
A minute later, Director Wang walked out of the restroom, running a hand through his hair. Instead of returning to the lab, he headed for the elevator.
Inside the restroom, Pan Dada's eyes gradually cleared. He looked around in confusion. "Why am I in the restroom? Wasn't I just outside...?"
Fortunately, after this brief delay, fewer people were using the elevator. Yu Xing rode alone, pressing the button for her floor.
She thought to herself that now, as a director, no random person would suddenly appear to bother her, right?
No sooner had the thought crossed her mind than the elevator stopped. The doors opened, revealing a handsome man outside, though somewhat aged, still retaining his charm.
The handsome man saw Yu Xing, raised an eyebrow, and then stepped into the elevator.
The moment the elevator doors closed, the handsome man spun 180 degrees and threw a fist the size of a casserole dish straight at Yu Xing's head.
Yu Xing quickly reached out, grabbed the handsome man's fist, and asked in shock and confusion, "What are you doing?!"
The handsome man didn't answer, throwing his other fist. Yu Xing had no choice but to grab his other fist as well, using both hands to force the handsome man to spin 360 degrees in place, performing a classic waltz pirouette. Then, she pulled the handsome man into a hug, controlling his body. Yu Xing looked down at the handsome man in her arms and asked, "Can't we talk this out nicely? No need for violence, okay?"
The handsome man was furious. No matter how he struggled, he couldn't break free from Yu Xing's control. His face flushed red as he raged, "You badmouthed me in front of Secretary Wang, and you still want me to talk nicely?!"
Yu Xing: "..."
She never imagined that the scientists in a research center would be so scheming among themselves...
"I'm busy today; I don't have time to fight with you," Yu Xing sighed, helplessly. "If we must, let's talk in the restroom."
The handsome man wouldn't relent. "I have nothing to talk about with you! If you know what's good for you, let me restart the Moon Project, otherwise, I'm not done with you!"
Yu Xing was stunned. The Moon Project?
Moon? Those two words sounded so unfamiliar.
Since arriving in this world, this was the first time she had heard them. She had only ever heard terms like Moon God and Purple Moon. It had been a long time since she heard "Moon."
"Moon?" Yu Xing frowned. "But the Moon isn't..."
While she was momentarily dazed, the handsome man broke free from her grip, stood up, and straightened his clothes. "I know what you want to say. The Moon Project is a blasphemy against the Moon God, and the Center won't approve funding for it. If you're worried about that, you don't have to be. I've already found an investor."
"Who?" Yu Xing asked casually, though what she really wanted to ask was what the Moon Project was researching.
"Chairman Miao," the handsome man sneered. "Chairman Miao is willing to fully fund me. Even if I have to leave the research center, I will continue my research."
With that, he pressed the open-door button and exited the elevator.
Once again, Yu Xing was alone in the elevator. She blinked in surprise. Chairman Miao? To her knowledge, the only person referred to that way without needing further clarification was Miao Yuanjin's grandfather.
Miao Yuanjin's grandfather funding someone else's Moon Project? And this project would blaspheme the Moon God?
She really wanted to contact Miao Yuanjin immediately and tell her the news. But right now, she didn't dare turn on her terminal, let alone contact anyone she knew. If she ever had the chance to see Miao Yuanjin again in the future...
The thought made Yu Xing feel downcast, her heart aching.
"Ding!"
The elevator doors opened, and Yu Xing stepped out.
This floor was different from the one where Pan Dada worked. The labs here were opaque, with only a small transparent glass pane on each door to see inside.
Furthermore, the clearance required to enter this floor was extremely high. If Yu Xing hadn't possessed Director Wang, she wouldn't have been able to get in.
Yu Xing subtly scanned her surroundings. Fortunately, there weren't many soldiers or Divine Chosen on this floor.
She walked to the first lab door, leaned in, and looked through the glass pane. The situation inside was different from what Yu Xing had expected—no strange instruments. There was only a bed, and on it sat a woman in white.
Squinting, she noticed three numbers branded on the woman's forehead.
014.
What did that mean?
Yu Xing walked to the next lab door and continued to look inside.
The situation inside was similar to before: still a bed, with a man sitting on it, his back to Yu Xing. There was nothing else inside except a bed.
Yu Xing instinctively felt that the people inside were not staff members.
When she reached the next lab, she found a little girl, about seven or eight years old, with two braids. The number on her forehead was "166."
As Yu Xing watched, the little girl was squatting on the ground, doing something unknown.
Suddenly, the little girl looked up, as if sensing something, and looked directly at the glass pane on the door. She met Yu Xing's gaze.
Upon seeing Yu Xing, the little girl stood up, walked to the door, and looked up at Yu Xing.
Yu Xing was amazed to find that the girl's eyes had no whites; they were pure black.
The girl looked at Yu Xing, her mouth opening and closing as if saying something, but Yu Xing couldn't hear a sound. Yu Xing couldn't help but frown. She felt the situation here was a bit eerie, but she didn't plan to do anything. Her purpose for being here was to save Grandma, and she absolutely couldn't cause any trouble before rescuing Grandma.
She was about to leave when suddenly, a little girl's voice echoed in her mind, "Who are you?"
Yu Xing: "?!"
Yu Xing looked around in surprise, finally settling her gaze on the little girl inside the room.
"Are you talking?" Yu Xing's voice was very soft; it was more of a murmur than a question to the little girl.
"Can you let me out?" The little girl in the room stood still, not even moving her lips. She just looked at Yu Xing.
This was... telepathy? Pretty cool.
Although Yu Xing felt a little sorry for the little girl, she remained unmoved. "No, I have important things to do."
Just as she was about to leave, the little girl's voice echoed in her mind again, "Are you here to find that grandma?"
Yu Xing trembled all over, looking at the little girl in disbelief.
"That grandma isn't here," the little girl said. "She's in great pain. I hear her crying every day."
"Where is she?!" Yu Xing reached out to open the door.
The door was locked; she couldn't open it.
Just then, someone approached from the other end of the corridor. Seeing Yu Xing, she asked strangely, "Director Wang, why are you down here? Don't you know this area isn't for casual visits?"
The newcomer was a black-haired woman in a lab coat. As she walked over, she spoke to Yu Xing, "Or has Director Wang had enough of researching animals and now wants to research humans?"
As the woman approached, the little girl's voice kept echoing in Yu Xing's mind.
"Let us out."
"We are all so pitiful."
"It's so painful being locked up here."
"Let us out, and I'll tell you where that grandma is..."
Yu Xing was in a moral dilemma. She didn't know whether to trust the little girl. If she released the people here, her infiltration of the research center would be exposed. But if the little girl was lying, her plan would immediately fail.
"Let me out!"
"Let me out!"
The little girl's voice became sharp, as if needles were pricking Yu Xing's brain.
"I really know where that grandma is..."
"Director Wang?" The woman approached Yu Xing, puzzled. "Why aren't you speaking?"
Yu Xing turned her head and looked at the woman in front of her. Her throat moved. Yu Xing said, "The little girl is too pitiful."
"What?" The woman thought she had misheard.
"They are all too pitiful," Yu Xing said. "Why are they locked up?"
"Huh?" The woman found it ridiculous. "Did I hear that right? Director Wang, do you even know what you're saying... Ah!"
Before she could finish, Yu Xing grabbed the woman by the neck and pinned her against the wall.
She searched the woman but found no keys or access cards.
No other option.
Yu Xing applied force, knocking the woman unconscious. Then, with a subtle movement, her magic wand quietly appeared in her hand.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Yu Xing whispered.
"Boom!"
A bolt of lightning struck the metal door.
"WEE-OO WEE-OO WEE-OO..." A piercing alarm blared through the corridor.
Yu Xing yanked the door open and asked the little girl inside, "Where is she?!"
An excited smile appeared on the little girl's face, and a voice echoed in Yu Xing's mind, "Save everyone, and then I'll tell you."
Yu Xing's hand unconsciously tightened. She suddenly thought of something and smiled at the girl.
The girl's expression shifted slightly, sensing a bad premonition.
Yu Xing took two steps forward and grasped the girl's hand. The girl's body merely trembled slightly, then she quickly ran past Director Wang and out of the lab. As the little girl ran down the corridor, she kept softly chanting, "Avada Kedavra."
"Avada Kedavra..."
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
"Boom..."
Bolts of lightning struck one after another, and metal doors were blasted open. The research center staff immediately became aware of the situation, and soldiers and Divine Chosen rushed to the scene.
"What happened?!"
The alarm plunged the entire research center into chaos.
"Did Yu Xing break in?"
"It's Level -22! The test subjects there have all escaped!"
Miao Nianzhen, still at the Divine Chosen Affairs Department, received the news instantly. She was shocked. "Yu Xing is here already? Wasn't it supposed to be in three days?"
The other person replied, "It's not confirmed if it's Yu Xing yet. No one resembling Yu Xing has appeared in the surveillance footage, it's just that the test subjects on Level -22 have collectively escaped..."
Hearing this, Miao Nianzhen relaxed slightly. She immediately rushed to the research center, telling herself that Yu Xing couldn't be that fast. The research center wasn't easy to get into, and even if she got in, she wouldn't get out.
By the time she arrived at the research center, the security on the first floor and most other levels was still inactive. As she walked, she said, "Bring up the surveillance footage of the affected floor for me to see."
Storming into the command room, she found Bai Lujun had already retrieved the footage.
"How is it?" Miao Nianzhen asked. "Is it Yu Xing?"
Bai Lujun's expression was complex. After thinking for a moment, he said, "I don't think so."
You don't think so? Miao Nianzhen didn't understand his uncertain attitude until she watched the surveillance footage.
In the surveillance video, a man stepped out of the elevator. The man stood still for a moment, then walked forward. He stopped at a lab door, peered inside for a while, then moved to the next lab, continuing to look inside.
Finally, when the man stopped at another lab door, his expression changed, as if in shock, and then his mouth moved.
"Who is he?" Miao Nianzhen asked.
"A principal researcher at the center," Bai Lujun replied, having just reviewed the information. "His name is Wang Dongsheng."
Miao Nianzhen frowned and continued watching. Then she noticed that the researcher named Wang Dongsheng became increasingly agitated. At this point, another person appeared—a woman.
"This is also a researcher here, working on that floor," Bai Lujun explained. "Her name isn't important."
The woman spoke to Wang Dongsheng as she walked towards him.
When she stood before him, Wang Dongsheng looked at her and spoke.
"The little girl is too pitiful."
"They are all too pitiful."
"Why are they locked up?"
Wang Dongsheng only said these three sentences, then suddenly grabbed the woman's neck and knocked her unconscious.
Immediately after, a bolt of lightning appeared, striking the metal door. Wang Dongsheng opened the door, revealing a little girl about seven or eight years old inside.
"Is this researcher Wang Dongsheng a Divine Chosen?" Miao Nianzhen was very surprised. "And what kind of experiments are being conducted here? Why is there a little girl?"
The research center's secretary was in the command room.
Secretary Wang, displeased by the question, snapped, "That's none of your business. Just do your job."
What happened next was even more astonishing. After the little girl appeared, Wang Dongsheng became motionless. Then the little girl ran down the corridor, and wherever she went, bolts of lightning struck, blasting open metal doors.
From behind each metal door emerged a person—men and women, mostly young, and some children. Some looked very strange, with deformed bodies.
Then soldiers and superpowered individuals appeared, clashing with the escapees. The scene became a chaotic mess.
This scene left Miao Nianzhen completely bewildered. What exactly was going on?
Did the little girl possess the lightning divine skill, or was it Wang Dongsheng?
She turned to look at Secretary Wang, only to see him standing up, leaning slightly forward, staring excitedly at the surveillance screen. "It succeeded... it really succeeded..."
"What succeeded?" Miao Nianzhen asked.
"Quick!" Secretary Wang pointed at the little girl on the screen. "Quickly catch her! Do not harm her! Nothing else matters, she absolutely cannot be harmed. Quickly catch her!"
The little girl, sparking with lightning, stopped when she saw soldiers approaching from ahead.
A seven- or eight-year-old girl with two pigtails stood blankly in the middle of the corridor, looking as if she had been scared senseless.
Most of the soldiers and Divine Chosen who arrived immediately had no time to check the surveillance, so they didn't know exactly what was happening. When they saw the little girl, their first reaction wasn't caution. The commanding soldier even told the soldier next to him, "You protect this little girl."
Following the order, a fully armored soldier, with only his eyes visible, walked over, picked up the little girl, and tried to soften his voice as he asked, "Little sister, what are you doing here?"
The little girl allowed the soldier to hold her. Suddenly, she reached out and lightly touched the soldier's neck.
The girl's hand was icy cold, like ice pulled from a lake. The soldier couldn't help but shiver. The next second, he froze.
In a very short time, just over ten seconds, the soldier moved again. He held the little girl, turned around, and walked against the crowd towards the elevator.
As he walked, he turned off his communication device and whispered into the little girl's ear, "Now can you tell me where she is?"
The little girl's eyes held a hint of confusion. She turned her head, looking at the chaotic situation behind them.
The soldier carried the little girl into the elevator. The little girl thought for a moment, then wrapped her slender arms around the soldier's neck, as if afraid. Her mouth moved, saying, "She is..."
The elevator only went up two floors before the soldier, still holding the little girl, turned and entered the restroom.
Soon after, a female researcher emerged from the restroom, hurried into the elevator. Once inside, she pressed a floor button.
The little girl had just said that Grandma was on Level -13.
This was a mid-level floor, neither high nor low.
It wasn't among the most crucial research labs, as Yu Xing had initially guessed. The authorities must have moved Grandma to Level -13 to mislead her and prevent her from finding the true location of Grandma.
Yu Xing shoved her hands into her pockets, watching the elevator numbers slowly climb.
She had pressed the button for Level -12, the floor above her target. She knew that Level -13 would be heavily guarded now—anyone entering would be immediately suspicious. So she couldn't rush things; she had to think of a good way to approach that floor.
As for the little girl, she had left her in the restroom. Whether the girl could successfully escape now depended on her fate.
"Ding!"
The elevator doors opened, and Yu Xing stepped onto Level -12.
