Chapter 28 Beautiful Hair (3) The Bull Warrior is Crazy
byChapter 28: Beautiful Hair (Part 3) Bull Warrior’s Lost It
What the hell?!
Yu Xing immediately recoiled, pressing her back against the wall, eyes fixed warily on the cupboard.
What was going on? Was the hair hiding in there? Had she stumbled into its lair by hiding in the kitchen?
"Thump, thump..."
The sound returned, louder and more frantic. At the same time, Yu Xing finally pinpointed its origin—not the cupboard, but the refrigerator beside it.
Something was in the fridge!!
In that instant, countless horror movie scenes flashed through Yu Xing’s mind—like opening the fridge door to find a disembodied head glaring at her with blood-red eyes.
It was hard not to imagine the worst. After all, she couldn’t conceive of anything normal or alive that would be inside a fridge.
Now she pictured a head thrashing inside, slamming against the door.
"Thump, thump..."
The noise from the fridge grew even more intense, the whole appliance rattling violently as if something was about to burst free.
Yu Xing didn’t hesitate. She rushed forward in two steps and pressed both hands against the fridge door, bracing it shut with all her might.
[Oh god, this is terrifying!]
The live chat exploded again.
[Is it the hair inside?]
[I don’t think so. Based on what we’ve seen, the hair can move freely. If Bull Warrior’s got it trapped in there, then it’s probably not the hair.]
[There’s another danger here?!]
[Poor Bull Warrior.]
[Just fry it—fridge and all!]
Yu Xing doubted regular lightning could take out both the fridge and its contents. Besides, she didn’t dare use her magic staff right now, afraid of alerting the hair.
But the banging inside the fridge grew even wilder. Yu Xing had to use her entire body weight to keep the door shut.
However, it was a losing battle. As she held on, she felt the temperature in her palms rising until the door burned her hands.
"!"
Reluctantly, Yu Xing pulled her hands away. Her palms were already blistering. At the same time, she noticed with shock that the fridge’s surface was glowing red.
"Bang!"
Without Yu Xing’s resistance, the fridge door was finally forced open from the inside. The moment it swung open, a wave of scorching heat rushed out, and a hulking black shape spilled onto the floor.
Acting on instinct, Yu Xing reflexively raised her magic staff, poised to strike.
But the livestream viewers saw what it was and quickly warned her.
[Don’t attack!]
[That’s a guy!]
[Don’t kill him, Bull Warrior!!]
Yu Xing hesitated, staff still raised. She looked down and saw that it really was a person—a black-clad man sprawled motionless on the floor.
There was a whole person hiding in the fridge?
Yu Xing found it unbelievable. A dead body wouldn’t shock her, but a living, whole human? That was truly bizarre.
For a moment, she wondered if this man was a pollutant, but she quickly dismissed the idea. She could see flames licking at his clothes, and since pollutants here feared fire, he couldn’t be one.
As the flames on the man’s body gradually died out, Yu Xing crouched beside him. Seeing his eyeballs moving beneath his eyelids—as if he was about to wake up—she gave his shoulder a tentative poke.
"Level 1 Jinx Beam 242/250."
The man’s body suddenly convulsed, and he coughed up a spray of blood before blacking out again.
He could bleed, so he was probably alive. Yu Xing glanced at the blood splattered on the floor, which quickly burned and evaporated. She thought, *This isn’t my fault… right?*
When she looked at the man’s face, it hit her: she recognized him.
Jiang Hui had shown her his photo. This was one of the two people Jiang Hui had hired to deal with the pollution source. Was his name… Wang… Bug?
Was that his name? Those syllables sounded right.
He wasn’t dead after all—just holed up in the fridge.
But if he had the strength to kick the fridge door earlier, why collapse the second he escaped? And why was he coughing up blood?
Yu Xing reached out to shake him but stopped herself, remembering she shouldn’t touch him directly. Touching him might just kill him outright.
Instead, she poked him with her magic staff while whispering, "Wang Bug, Wang Bug, wake up. Nap time’s over."
"Wang Bug, wake up."
"If not for yourself, do it for your loved ones..."
After Yu Xing’s persistent urging, the man on the floor finally reacted. His eyeballs twitched, he coughed twice, and then slowly opened his eyes.
Yu Xing lit up. "You’re awake?"
The man lay there, staring at Yu Xing for a moment. Then he opened his mouth and croaked, "Bull Warrior?"
Yu Xing: "..."
She was still wearing the Bull Warrior mask. "That’s not the point right now."
For a brief moment, he blinked, dazed, but the confusion quickly faded. He asked, "Have you been here the whole time?"
"Yeah," Yu Xing nodded, then added, "Look, Wang Bug, I know who you are. I was also brought in to clean up this mess."
"..." The man’s face twitched in annoyance. He exhaled heavily and said, "It’s *Wang Kunyu*, thanks."
Then he extended his right hand toward Yu Xing.
Yu Xing stared at his hand for a while before asking, puzzled, "What am I supposed to see?"
The man rolled his eyes. "A little help here? I need to sit up."
"...Oh." Yu Xing suddenly realized, but she couldn't do that. Nor could she explain the reason, because she was currently the God of Misfortune's only Beloved. Explaining would mean exposing her identity, rendering her disguise useless.
So Yu Xing simply crossed her arms and put on a cold act, saying, "Hmph, I don't do charity work."
Wang Kunyu: "..."
Wang Kunyu struggled to get up from the ground on his own, his face all scrunched up. "So you didn’t even bother to open the fridge door when I was struggling inside?"
Yu Xing didn’t answer. She thought to herself, *Not only did I not help, I was actively jamming the door.*
Fortunately, she was wearing the Minotaur Mask, so Wang Kunyu couldn’t see her expression.
"What's going on here?" Wang Kunyu asked, sitting on the floor with his back against the wall, gasping for air.
Yu Xing wasn’t sure how to explain the current situation, so she countered, "What about you? What happened to you?"
Wang Kunyu couldn’t help but frown at Yu Xing. This chick was seriously weird—she seemed so cold.
"What’s your name?" Wang Kunyu asked. "I should at least know what to call you, right?"
Without hesitation, Yu Xing replied, "Name's Bull Warrior."
Wang Kunyu: "..."
Even in such a dangerous situation, Wang Kunyu couldn’t help but feel exasperated.
"Bull..." Looking at the other’s Minotaur Mask, Wang Kunyu had to look away. But since she had made it this far and was in better shape than him, it meant her strength was likely above his. If he wanted to get out of here, he might have to rely on this "Bull Warrior." So, swallowing his pride, Wang Kunyu began recounting what had happened to him since arriving.
"After accepting this job, I didn’t rush here immediately. I investigated the corruption source beforehand and knew that fire could suppress it. As a God of Fire's Beloved..."
Wang Kunyu was the second Divine Chosen Jiang Hui had hired. After entering the barbershop, he saw pretty much the same scene as Yu Xing—Madam Xiu and a group of customers. Like Yu Xing, he initially thought Madam Xiu was the corruption source’s true form.
He also noticed Zhou Yaozu. He acted before Madam Xiu could perform the hair transplant on Zhou Yaozu, believing Zhou might not yet be fully corrupted and could still be saved.
But he was wrong. He torched everyone in the barbershop, made sure to spare Zhou Yaozu.
Yet after burning everyone, the corruption source still didn’t appear. By then, he knew something was wrong—but it was too late.
Zhou Yaozu grabbed him from behind and melted into a writhing hair monster. The hair invaded relentlessly, worming its way into Wang Kunyu’s skin, mouth, nostrils, and even his eyes.
"Luckily, I’m a God of Fire's Beloved," Wang Kunyu said with relief. "I immediately used flames to burn myself, burning out all that hair gunk inside me. That’s how I avoided corruption."
Yu Xing had seen him covered in flames while unconscious and thought, *This Divine Skill is really useful—perfect for countering those hairs.*
So she asked, "If your Divine Skill is so effective against the hair, why didn’t you just eliminate the corruption source directly?"
Wang Kunyu gave her an "are you kidding me" look. "Do you think my psychic energy is infinite? I’m just A-class. After dealing with Zhou Yaozu, my psychic energy was almost completely drained. I couldn’t summon any more flames. But I couldn’t escape either, so I had to hide in the kitchen."
Yu Xing blinked. *Psychic energy drained?*
From what Wang Kunyu was saying, using Divine Skills consumed psychic energy?
This made her even more convinced that her Jinx Beam wasn’t a Divine Skill at all—because she never felt any psychic energy depletion when using it.
"Then why were you in the fridge?" Yu Xing asked.
At this question, Wang Kunyu’s face went pale before he continued his story.
After hiding in the kitchen, Wang Kunyu was catching his breath when he suddenly heard footsteps outside.
Not just one person’s—at least a dozen people were pacing outside the door. Then, he heard Madam Xiu and the customers’ voices again. They were chatting, the sound of hairdryers, the sound of washing hair...
He had burned Madam Xiu and all the customers to death, yet outside, everything seemed to have reset like nothing happened.
Wang Kunyu really wanted to open the door and see what was happening, but his psychic energy hadn’t recovered yet, so he didn’t dare go out.
So he had his ear pressed to the door, straining to listen to the noises outside.
Just as he was eavesdropping intently, a voice suddenly spoke right against the door, as if whispering into his ear: "Would the gentleman care to step out for his hair treatment?"
Wang Kunyu’s scalp went numb. Without thinking, he hid inside the fridge.
"I don’t know how long I was in there," Wang Kunyu said. "I only woke up when I heard someone messing with the fridge."
At this point, he looked at Yu Xing with disappointment. "I thought... my friend had come to save me."
"Heh." Yu Xing also leaned against the wall and sat down. "My bad for not being your knight in shining armor."
Wang Kunyu’s lips twitched. That wasn’t what he meant. But seeing how calm this "Bull Warrior" was, he asked, "So what's the play here?"
"Gotta recharge my batteries." *Because I’m waiting for my magic staff’s cooldown.* "Then I’ll go find the corruption source."
To Wang Kunyu, he took this to mean she had exhausted her psychic energy and needed time to recover.
He gave a knowing nod. "We can use this time to discuss how to coordinate next."
"By the way," Wang Kunyu asked, "Which god's your patron?"
Yu Xing: "..."
Yu Xing didn’t know how to answer, so she stayed silent.
To Wang Kunyu, her silent treatment reeked of arrogance and disdain. His brows furrowed in displeasure. "Do you think you can handle the corruption source alone?"
He sneered. "Don’t say I didn’t warn you—this corruption source isn’t simple..."
As he spoke, he noticed the Bull Warrior’s gaze drifting absently into empty space. Was she... zoning out?
Wang Kunyu's patience snapped. Was this attitude her way of completely disregarding him?
His face turned beet red. "You think I need you to save me? Let me tell you, my friend knows I’m here. If I don’t return for too long, he’ll come busting in here. He’s a member of the Divine Chosen squad. All I have to do is wait here—"
Before he could finish, he heard the Bull Warrior snort.
Yu Xing was reading the stream chat, where viewers were egging her on to recruit Wang Kunyu as her first subordinate.
[Based on standard transmigrator protocol, this Wang Kunyu should be the protagonist’s OG crew member.]
[Trust me, scooping him up as a minion won’t do you any harm.]
[+1, my first follower was recruited exactly like this.]
[Y'all make no sense…]
[Wang Kunyu is kinda hot. Shouldn’t you make him your side piece instead?]
[I don’t get you alphas either…]
[You guys are really too much, the Heartthrob isn't out of danger yet!]
[I think the Heartthrob needs to cooperate with this suddenly appearing man.]
[Heartthrob, stop laughing! Wang Kunyu is fuming!]
Watching them talk was really amusing. Yu Xing reluctantly tore her gaze away from the live comments and turned to look at Wang Kunyu. He was about to explode with anger? Why?
Turning her head, she indeed saw Wang Kunyu’s face flushed red, his chest heaving violently.
Yu Xing was baffled. Why would he work himself into such a state for no reason?
She checked the time—only ten minutes left until her special move refreshed. So, she asked Wang Kunyu, "Do you know where the source of corruption is?"
Wang Kunyu was so angry that he turned his face away, refusing to look at or answer Yu Xing.
Yu Xing: "?"
Yu Xing didn’t understand, but she thought Wang Kunyu’s Divine Skill was very useful. She planned to talk him down, persuading him to stop sulking and cooperate properly.
Just then, Yu Xing suddenly heard footsteps.
"Tap, tap, tap..."
The sound wasn’t loud, but in the quiet environment, it was unmistakably clear.
Wang Kunyu, who had just been fuming, immediately turned serious. His body tensed up like a coiled predator, ready to strike like a leopard.
Yu Xing remained seated on the ground, not daring to move. She turned her head to look at the kitchen door.
"Knock, knock, knock..."
The kitchen door was knocked, and a familiar woman’s voice came from outside, "Guests inside, would you like a hair restoration?"
Wang Kunyu glanced at Yu Xing out of the corner of his eye. Though nervous, he wasn’t as terrified as before. For one, his stamina had recovered somewhat, and secondly, he wasn’t fighting alone now. Even if this Bull Warrior got on his nerves, she was still a Divine Chosen, and from the looks of it, she seemed quite strong.
After the woman’s voice faded, a man’s voice soon followed, "Is someone in there?"
"Yes," the woman replied. "They don’t seem willing to get a hair restoration."
"How can that be?" another voice chimed in. "How can someone refuse a hair restoration?"
"Exactly! Don’t they want beautiful hair?"
"Come out for a restoration."
"Come out quickly..."
There seemed to be quite a few people outside, babbling incessantly, and soon someone started banging on the door.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
"Bang..."
The kitchen door buckled dangerously, clearly not holding up much longer. Wang Kunyu drew a sharp breath and turned to Yu Xing. "What’s your plan?"
Yu Xing checked the time—only a few minutes left until her special move refreshed.
But even if it did, she didn’t want to use it here. The special move had to be reserved for the source of corruption.
Yu Xing shot back, "Can you hold them off once the door opens?"
Wang Kunyu: "?"
What did she mean? "Can I hold them off?"
Suddenly, Yu Xing noticed something slipping in through the gap under the door. She focused and saw a clump of hair squirming in along the floor.
Once inside, the hair quickly gathered into a small mass, forming into an eyeball.
The pale eyeball, connected by strands of hair, rolled around behind the door before fixing on Yu Xing and Wang Kunyu.
"Found them, found them," a man’s voice called from outside. "There are two guests inside, and they both desperately need hair restorations."
Seeing the eyeball, Wang Kunyu’s gaze sharpened, his breathing growing noticeably faster.
Yu Xing thought to herself—perfect. Her Jinx Beam Skill only needed eight more attacks to level up. She couldn’t waste this opportunity.
So, she quickly dropped into a crouch and grabbed the eyeball.
Wang Kunyu: "?!"
"Jinx Beam Skill Lv.1: 243/250."
Great. Yu Xing beamed. Just as she thought, attacking the eyeball counted.
Seizing the opportunity, she released the eyeball, then swiftly snatched it up again.
"Jinx Beam Skill Lv.1: 244/250."
Wang Kunyu watched from beside her, his eyes growing wider by the second.
Had he gone mad? Was he seeing things? Why was the Bull Warrior playing with the monstrosity—and smirking like a maniac while doing it? Even though she wore a mask, her exposed mouth was stretched into a wide smile, revealing every last tooth!
Yu Xing worked her hands furiously. After enduring this abuse multiple times, the eyeball’s strands of hair began wrapping around her hand.
Just then, the kitchen door finally splintered with a horrible screech, caving in.
Yu Xing’s eyes gleamed as she scrambled back. The poor eyeball was unlucky—pinned under the fallen door. The pollutants outside poured in, stomping across the door.
As the door gave way, Yu Xing could finally see the situation outside.
Sister Xiu took point, herding the same creepy patrons blocking the kitchen entrance. Their blank eyes fixed hungrily on Yu Xing and Wang Kunyu.
Only one guest at the very back was groping wildly. "My eye! Where is it? I can’t see anything..."
Attack!!!
That was the only thought burning in Wang Kunyu’s mind. Before acting, he glanced at the Bull Warrior, expecting backup.
But what did he see?
There was the Bull Warrior, letting out a manic chuckle.
"..."
At that moment, Wang Kunyu began to suspect that Bull Warrior had actually been corrupted long ago, and he was the only actual human left here...
Yu Xing was indeed laughing because her Jinx Beam Skill had leveled up!
Finally leveled up!!!
A pink panel appeared before her.
"Skill leveled up successfully."
"Level 2 Jinx Beam 0/10. (Click for details)"
Yu Xing remembered that the Level 2 Jinx Beam Skill could attack things via indirect contact. "Indirect" meant she no longer needed to risk direct contact with the contamination source.
"Get a hair transplant."
Sister Xiu and the guests crept closer toward the two.
"Try it, try it."
"A hair transplant can make you look twenty years younger."
"Absolutely no side effects..."
Hearing these voices, Wang Kunyu felt a needle-like pain in his head, and his thoughts grew sluggish.
He knew this was a reaction to contamination—those with higher mental fortitude could resist it better. His mental fortitude was Rank A, not weak at all. But earlier, he had burned through much mental energy to use Divine Skill and hadn't fully recovered yet.
The more mental energy was consumed, the weaker the resistance to contamination.
He couldn't keep this up. Wang Kunyu bit his tongue hard, the sharp pain snapping him alert. Regardless of that weirdo, he had to act now!
Wang Kunyu thrust out his hand and whispered, "God of Fire, please protect your believer and grant me the power of flames!"
A fireball appeared in Wang Kunyu's palm, and incredibly, he could hold it without injury. With a flick of his wrist, he hurled the fireball toward Sister Xiu.
This was the method he had devised to use Divine Skill with the least mental energy consumption.
Though a single fireball wasn't very powerful, these contaminants were all hair—just a little spark was enough to ignite them.
Yet this time, the plan backfired. When the fireball struck Sister Xiu, it emitted a hiss.
"Sizzle..."
Like white-hot metal being plunged into water.
White smoke rose from Sister Xiu's body, but contrary to Wang Kunyu's expectations, she didn't catch fire.
Wang Kunyu stood frozen until he noticed water dripping from Sister Xiu's body.
The contaminants had drenched themselves in water!
His brain nearly short-circuited!
Wang Kunyu had heard from his friends in the Divine Chosen Team that contaminants weren't completely mindless—especially the long-existing ones.
But this was the first time he had encountered such a situation, and his mind nearly blanked.
"Get a hair transplant, get a hair transplant."
"Try it, try it..."
The contaminants continued to advance. Just as panic gripped him, a voice rang in Wang Kunyu's ears, "Move aside!"
Instinctively, he turned his head and saw Bull Warrior, in that hideous red trench coat, charging forward. She spread her left hand, hurling something toward the contaminants.
It was... a cloud of hair dye?
The dye rained down like cherry blossoms over the contaminants as Bull Warrior raised her right hand, brandishing a wand.
"Avada Kendagua!!"
Amidst the crackling lightning, Wang Kunyu had an epiphany—Bull Warrior was the Beloved of the God of Thunder and Lightning.
