Chapter 20 Two Boyfriends Meet, Please Stop Fighting Over Me~…
byChapter 20: When Two Boyfriends Meet: "Stop Fighting Over Me!"
After what felt like an eternity, Bai Qinghe finally opened his eyes. He gazed intently at Yu Xing before quickly averting his face, as if he had seen something repulsive.
"You... carry on," Bai Qinghe said quietly, picking up his terminal. "I'm listening."
Yu Xing had just finished recounting the car accident and was about to describe how she dealt with the monster. "Honestly, I didn’t do much. I was still terrified, even though the monster was severely injured. So I just kept using my Divine Skill against it, and then it died."
As Yu Xing narrated, Bai Qinghe and Su Wenmo gradually pieced together the events.
It had to be said that Yu Xing’s Divine Skill was quite extraordinary—or perhaps the newly emerged deity was incredibly powerful. Her Divine Skill was unlike typical ones; it didn't produce a direct offensive effect but instead amplified certain probabilities, specifically the likelihood of the target encountering misfortune.
In other words, it was what people commonly referred to as "bad luck." Those affected by Yu Xing’s skill had an unusually high chance of experiencing unfortunate events.
In that situation, the monster was injured. It had a chance to break free from the metal pipe impaling its body and survive, but Yu Xing’s continuous Divine Skill attacks eliminated that possibility. So the monster died—it essentially died from bad luck.
This Divine Skill was truly peculiar. Used effectively, it could yield unexpected results, but its limitations were also significant.
Bai Qinghe’s gaze lingered on Yu Xing’s hand. The skill could only be successfully activated through direct physical contact with her. However, in actual combat, such opportunities were rare. With the increasing advancement of ranged weaponry, close-quarters combat was almost nonexistent. Even pollutants were becoming more unusual. It was entirely possible that Yu Xing could be killed before she even got close enough to touch a pollutant.
Bai Qinghe had initially considered recruiting Yu Xing into his squad, given the uniqueness of her ability. But now he had changed his mind. He realized that Yu Xing’s reluctance to join the military or the Divine Chosen Team was justified—facing pollutants directly was far too dangerous for her.
"And then?" Su Wenmo asked nervously. "What about the pollution source?"
Yu Xing blinked. "Pollution source?"
Seeing her bewildered expression, Bai Qinghe also paused before recalling the personal file he had reviewed about Yu Xing.
A defective person, raised in District D, with only her grandmother and brother as family. They lived in extreme poverty.
Such a background placed her at the very bottom of society. Attending Seventh Middle School was likely the pinnacle of her life so far. Limited by her circumstances, Yu Xing’s knowledge was restricted, so it was normal for her not to know what a pollution source was.
"After the monster died, did you see anything?" Bai Qinghe asked. "For example, a glowing purple orb."
Of course, she had seen it—and even sold it...
Yu Xing noticed the subtle shift in Su Wenmo and Bai Qinghe’s postures. They seemed tense, which made her nervous as well. She realized that the purple orb must be far more significant than she had thought.
"I saw it," Yu Xing replied, feigning curiosity. "What was that thing?"
"That was the pollution source," Bai Qinghe said. "Did you take it?"
"Huh?" Yu Xing quickly played dumb. "No, I didn’t know what it was. It felt really eerie, so I didn’t dare touch it. Besides, two of my classmates were injured in the car, so I quickly took them away from there."
Her answer didn't seem suspicious, and Bai Qinghe didn’t doubt her. But the problem was that when their team arrived, they hadn’t found the pollution source inside the wrecked bus.
Had someone else taken it? Or had the pollution source escaped?
Bai Qinghe’s frown deepened. A major reason they had been so eager to find Yu Xing was to ascertain the status of the pollution source. An additional Divine Chosen wasn’t worth this level of urgency, but a mishandled pollution source could cause significant problems.
After speaking, Yu Xing discreetly observed their expressions. Seeing them frowning but showing no signs of suspicion, she cautiously asked, "What exactly is a pollution source?"
"You... never mind. You’ll learn about it in church training anyway," Bai Qinghe said, massaging his temples. "Do you know what pollutants are?"
Yu Xing didn't fully grasp the concept, but she could guess. "Are monsters pollutants?"
"Yes," Bai Qinghe confirmed. "But pollutants aren’t just monsters."
He looked up through the skylight at the sky. "Pollutants are living beings or objects that have been contaminated. What contaminates them is the pollution source. Most things or people that are polluted will change their original form, lose their sanity, and become monsters controlled by the pollution source, only capable of spreading contamination."
Turning back to Yu Xing, who seemed deep in thought, he continued, "You saw it last night on the bus. Initially, only the driver was a monster, but it contaminated the other passengers, turning them into monsters too. If the situation on the bus hadn’t been resolved quickly, the contamination could have spread further, affecting more than just the passengers on the bus."
Hearing this, Yu Xing recalled the events of the previous night. The term "pollution" perfectly described what had happened on the bus. It was as if an invisible virus had spread through the vehicle, rapidly turning people into the same kind of monsters.
"But pollutants themselves aren’t contagious. Only the pollution source can continuously contaminate its surroundings," Bai Qinghe explained. "Our Divine Chosen Team’s duty is to eliminate pollutants, neutralize pollution sources, and maintain the city’s stability and safety."
Hearing this, Yu Xing felt a surge of anxiety. So that purple orb was the pollution source—and it was that dangerous? Had she just handed it over to Little Li in the Magical World? Would something terrible happen?
Though anxious, Yu Xing dared not show it. Instead, she probed indirectly, "If pollution sources are so dangerous, how do you... deal with them?"
She figured the pollution source was already in the magical world and probably couldn’t be retrieved. Might as well ask how to neutralize it so Little Li could handle it herself.
As the car sped down the road, Bai Qinghe put away his terminal, completely believing her story. "Every pollution source is extremely dangerous—beyond our team’s ability to handle. All we can do is retrieve it and deliver it to the nearest church for the Cardinal. His ability allows him to purify pollution sources."
"Purify?" Yu Xing’s mind conjured an image of Cardinal Lans, making her skin crawl. "Only the Cardinal can purify pollution sources?"
If that was the case, what was she supposed to do?
Sneak up and knock out Lans, then send him to the magical world?
"Not necessarily," Bai Qinghe shook his head.
Yu Xing perked up—there was another way!
Bai Qinghe continued, "Any Moon God Chosen whose Divine Skill reaches the third stage can purify pollution sources. If an emergency prevents delivery to the church, a Moon God Chosen at the fourth stage can perform the purification on the spot."
Yu Xing: "..."
So she’d have to send an actual person over...
Her gaze settled on Bai Qinghe. She remembered he was also a Moon God’s Chosen.
Sure enough, Bai Qinghe nodded when their eyes met. "I am a Moon God’s Chosen, but my abilities aren’t strong enough to purify a pollution source."
Yu Xing: "..."
Yu Xing's shoulders slumped. Su Wenmo said, "We’ll drop you off at Seventh Middle School later. Ask for leave and prepare for church training."
Yu Xing gave a distracted nod before asking, "What about you two?"
"We’re heading to District D," Bai Qinghe said irritably, rubbing his brow. "The pollution source is missing. We have to find it as soon as possible, or things could go completely awry."
They're barking up the wrong tree—the pollution source isn’t even in this world anymore. Of course, Yu Xing couldn’t say that. Realizing they’d soon part ways, she asked, "If I don’t join the Divine Chosen Team, will we ever meet again?"
"What? You'll miss us?" Su Wenmo grinned and winked at her. "Just join the team, then!"
Yu Xing thought, *In your dreams. I’m not leaving my two boyfriends.* Before parting, she finally asked what she'd been dying to ask. "Why... do you trust me so much? Aren’t you worried I hid the pollution source?"
Bai Qinghe and Su Wenmo were caught off guard before Su Wenmo burst into laughter. Even Bai Qinghe couldn’t help but laugh.
Completely lost, Yu Xing watched as Su Wenmo laughed and said, "You’re adorable. I want you on our team even more now. So cute—let me squeeze your cheeks!"
Yu Xing shrank back into her seat, refusing to let Su Wenmo lay a finger on her.
Once the laughter subsided, Bai Qinghe explained, "It’s not that we just trust you like that. It’s just that we Moon God Chosen are very sensitive to pollutants. If the pollution source were on you or if you’d been in prolonged contact with it, I would’ve sensed it the moment we met. And besides..."
His expression turned grave. "A pollution source isn’t something just anyone can handle. If your willpower isn't strong enough or your mental state is unstable, touching a pollution source will immediately result in contamination. You’d become a new pollutant."
His stern gaze locked onto Yu Xing’s face. "Got it?"
Yu Xing's heart lurched again, wondering if Little Li was okay.
Her thoughts were a mess as she pondered the possibility of sending Cardinal Lans to the magical world. She asked, "What stage is Cardinal Lans's Divine Skill at? Besides purifying pollution sources, what else can Moon God Chosen's abilities do?"
"Why are you asking this?" Bai Qinghe found Yu Xing's train of thought rather erratic. "I don’t know what stage Cardinal Lans is at currently. As for Moon God Chosen's skills, besides summoning purifying light, they can also create purification barriers to block the invasion of pollutants."
That's it? It doesn’t seem to have any offensive capabilities. Yu Xing felt some relief, then remembered that Lans had once said her skill had no effect on him.
Yu Xing looked up and asked Bai Qinghe, "Why didn't Cardinal Lans get affected when he touched me? Why didn’t my... Divine Skill attack him?"
"Hmph, you actually wanted to attack a Cardinal?" Su Wenmo chuckled. "Do you know the difference between Moon God Chosen and other Divine Chosen?"
Yu Xing shook her head.
Su Wenmo smirked again. "Do you know the difference between the Moon God and other gods?"
Yu Xing kept shaking her head, her curiosity burning.
"The Moon God is the lord of all gods, while the other gods just serve the Moon God. Though Moon God's Chosen don't have attack skills, they naturally suppress other Divine Chosen. Any Divine Skill of the same or lower level will just stop working upon contact with a Moon God Chosen. To harm Cardinal Lans, your Divine Skill would have to be at a higher level than his." Su Wenmo gave her a look that said, "You're not strong enough." "Forgot to mention, Cardinal Lans is probably the highest-level Divine Skill user in all seven cities."
Oh, I get it now. Yu Xing finally understood what Lans had meant.
But she was still curious. "So...can his powers stop bullets?"
Su Wenmo fell silent.
Bai Qinghe fell silent.
Even with Bai Qinghe's explanation, Yu Xing remained puzzled. Was her Broomstick Star thing even a real Divine Skill? Did a Broomstick Star God truly exist?
But if there was no Broomstick Star God, why had the church candles lit up on their own? Why was Lans immune to her skill’s attacks?
Cardinal Lans was polishing the altar himself when he suddenly felt his nose itch. He frowned slightly but couldn’t suppress the instinctive reaction, lowering his head and covering his mouth and nose as he let out a sneeze.
But the candle flames before him shuddered violently. Lans hurriedly reached out to steady them—letting the sacred flames die would be blasphemy.
He stretched out his hand, curving it around the wavering flames. Perhaps he moved too hastily, for his knuckles accidentally brushed against the candle in front. The candle instantly started to topple. Lans’s eyes narrowed slightly as his other hand snapped out lightning-fast, catching the candle before it could fall.
But he failed to notice that his first hand had already, unwittingly, touched the flame.
Fire shot through his fingers. Though he tried to suppress it, his hand jerked on its own. A faint sound followed, and Lans turned his head to see a whole row of candles tipping over in sequence to the right like dominoes.
At that moment, Lans’s face went pale. He bolted right, trying to outrun the falling candles and intercept them before the entire row collapsed.
But his floor-length red robes flapped wildly as he ran. Just as he caught up to the toppling candles, relief flashed in his eyes—he went to catch the next candle.
Then his left foot stepped on his robe’s hem. He pitched forward, and he went down hard toward the ground.
Lans could foresee that if he fell like this, he'd be lucky if only half the candles got wrecked. With that thought, he twisted his body midair at an impossible angle, redirecting his fall to the side.
Seeing that he had avoided the altar, Lans almost sighed in relief. The next second, his back slammed into something hard and cold. His expression froze.
The cavernous church stood empty, devoid of even seating. The only thing in the direction he’d fallen was the massive statue of the Moon God.
He had crashed into the Moon God’s statue—how sacrilegious!
Before he could even steady himself, his heart and soul were already consumed by repentance.
Yet before he could repent for three seconds, his stiffened face suddenly widened in shock. He felt... the statue behind him moving?
Lans hit the floor as a dull thud echoed behind him. He turned his head stiffly to see the enormous, pristine spherical statue slowly rolling away.
The pedestal beneath the statue was set on a flight of steps. The statue had already reached the edge.
For a moment, Lans’s heart skipped a beat. He scrambled to his feet and lunged toward the statue, desperate to halt its momentum.
But it was too late. Once the statue rolled off the first step, nothing could stop it now—like a runaway bowling ball.
Boom...
The massive god-statue crashed down the stairs, rolling straight along the church’s expensive central carpet toward the doors. With a final deafening crash, it lodged firmly in the doorway, jamming the doors shut completely.
The church fell dead silent.
Cardinal Lans knelt on the altar, his golden hair a mess. Staring at the statue wedged in the doorway, only one thought filled his mind: Had some evil god cursed him today?
......
"We’re here." Su Wenmo parked the car at the entrance of Seventh Middle School and pulled out her terminal. "Let’s add each other as contacts."
Yu Xing looked at her. Su Wenmo explained, "Since we’re the ones taking you to the church, it’ll be easier to keep you updated if we’re connected."
Hah. Yu Xing thought, *Spare me the excuses. You just want my contact info—no need for all this justification.*
Entering Seventh Middle School, Yu Xing found the campus deserted during class hours, with only a few cleaning robots tidying up.
Hands in her pockets, she sighed and headed toward the administrative building. *Day after day, ever since transmigrating into this world, I haven’t had a single proper day of classes.*
It seemed like something was always waiting for her. Now she’d have to spend time at the church too. If this kept up, her grades would be unsalvageable!
Mei Hexuan emerged from the administrative building. A day had passed, but his expression hadn’t improved—if anything, it had darkened further.
His lips were pressed tightly together, his eyes a mix of anger and bewilderment. He had just gone to see the principal, demanding Yu Xing’s expulsion.
Given his family’s status and influence, he had countless ways to retaliate against Yu Xing. Expulsion was just the first step—because he truly never wanted to see her at Seventh Middle School again.
But things hadn’t gone as planned. The principal had outright refused to expel Yu Xing.
Mei Hexuan was stunned. His family had donated an entire building to the school when he enrolled. Expelling some lowly D-district commoner should’ve been trivial.
He had asked the principal, "Are you really willing to offend the Mei family over some D-district trash?"
The portly principal had smiled and replied, "Mei, Seventh Middle School belongs to the Federation and all of humanity. Every student here is equal. The school will never abandon any student under threats."
*Equal, my foot!* Mei Hexuan stormed out, cursing the principal and school leadership in his mind for the first time.
With his first step of revenge thwarted, Mei Hexuan’s mood was foul. He quickened his pace. Even if the school wouldn’t expel Yu Xing, he had other ways to ensure she’d never set foot on campus again.
Then he spotted someone outside the administrative building—someone who shouldn’t have been there.
A handsome young man in Seventh Middle School’s uniform, with flaxen hair, leaned against the wall, head slightly bowed as if waiting for someone.
Mei Hexuan slowed his steps. The flaxen-haired youth looked up and let out a long, mocking whistle. "Well, if it isn’t our great romantic? Just this morning, you were locking lips with your beloved in public. Why the long face now?"
The words were like poison, searing into Mei Hexuan’s heart, twisting and corroding it.
Just as Gu Ya couldn’t stand him, Mei Hexuan had always despised Gu Ya—because the guy was insufferable, always speaking with that infuriating sarcasm.
Normally, Mei Hexuan wouldn’t bother with him at all, but today was different—especially since Gu Ya was using the incident from earlier to provoke him.
“What are you doing here?” Mei Hexuan sneered. “Not off playing with your girlfriend and her whip? You actually have time to chat with me?”
Girlfriend… whip…
Some unpleasant memories surfaced, and Gu Ya’s face twisted involuntarily. But there was no way he’d let himself be defeated so easily.
Gu Ya quickly flashed a grin. “Whose girlfriend? Isn’t she yours? By now, everyone at Seventh Middle School knows you’re the other man in a love triangle. As your childhood friend, of course I had to let you have her. Starting today, Yu Xing and I have nothing to do with each other—she’s your girlfriend now~”
Mei Hexuan was furious, his mind clouded by rage. “Did you do this?” he shouted.
Gu Ya raised an eyebrow. “What?”
“You’re the reason the school won’t expel Yu Xing, right?” Mei Hexuan couldn’t understand why the school refused to expel her, but if Gu Ya had interfered, it all made sense.
Gu Ya wasn’t surprised that the school wouldn’t expel Yu Xing. Based on what he’d uncovered, whoever got Yu Xing into Seventh Middle School isn’t someone to mess with.
But Gu Ya had no intention of explaining that to Mei Hexuan. As long as he could annoy Mei Hexuan and let Mei Hexuan blame him, he was happy.
“Yep,” Gu Ya said without hesitation. “It was me.”
He smirked, deliberately provoking. “Not only that, but I also sent your video to everyone we both know. By now… your whole damn family’s seen it.”
Mei Hexuan finally snapped, lunging at Gu Ya with clenched fists. “You’re dead!”
Caught off guard, Gu Ya took a punch to the face, staggering from the hit. But instead of getting angry, he covered his cheek and grinned.
He’d finally torn off Mei Hexuan’s cool, aloof act. Who knew Mr. Perfect could snap like this?
Gu Ya was loving it. He wanted to laugh out loud.
But Mei Hexuan didn’t give him the chance. Grabbing Gu Ya by the collar, he started throwing punches like a madman. Gu Ya, though amused, wasn’t about to just stand there and take it. He fought back, and the two of them went at it, fists flying.
Just as they were really going at it, a familiar voice rang out behind them.
“Cut it out! Stop fighting because of me!”
