Chapter 45 The Silent Bull Warrior, Tonight She Drives Countless People Crazy
byChapter 45: The Silent Bull Warrior Drives Many Wild Tonight
Yu Xing held her breath, a knot of fear tightening in her stomach. She hadn't been in this world long since transmigrating, nor had she spent much time with Granny, but at this moment, her heart pounded wildly.
"Don’t be afraid, Yu Xing!" she cheered herself on silently. "You’re the chosen transmigrator! Heaven is on your side!"
With renewed resolve, she shoved open the door of the Joyous Eatery.
The moment the door swung inward, the sounds from within flooded Yu Xing’s ears with startling clarity. Stepping inside, her gaze first fell upon the dining area, trashed as if ransacked, and the emaciated, skeletal figures of men and women scattered throughout.
At a glance, over a dozen abominations stood in the restaurant—some in ordinary clothes, others in staff uniforms—but without exception, each cradled a plump infant in their arms.
The men were in even worse condition. Unable to give birth normally, their bellies were split wide open. Fortunately, the babies in their arms had already drained them of blood, so not a single drop spilled from their wounds.
Yu Xing quickly scanned the room, a wave of relief washing over her—Granny wasn’t among them.
The moment she entered, all the abominations turned to face her. The wailing babies abruptly fell silent, their ravenous gazes fixed on Yu Xing.
She shrank back slightly. This was troublesome. There was only one of her, but so many abominations—how could she possibly satisfy them all?
With that thought, she pulled out her spell staff. If she couldn’t return their twisted affection, then she’d just have to do them the "kindness" of ending them, sending them off to the Pure Land.
Wait… did this world even have a Pure Land?
The silence lasted less than a minute before the babies began wailing again, flailing their limbs frantically. The desiccated husks holding them—like doting mothers—started shuffling toward Yu Xing, eager to fulfill their children’s demands.
Yu Xing didn’t move an inch. Instead, she raised her spell staff high and whispered, "*Avada Kendagua!*"
A bolt of lightning struck an infant squarely on the forehead. The baby turned to ash without so much as a whimper, while its male carrier let out a piercing shriek before collapsing lifelessly.
Ordinary abominations like these were easy to deal with. Yu Xing had already cleared out plenty at the carnival grounds, and now, with her spell staff, it was even more effortless.
"*Avada Kendagua!*"
"*Avada Kendagua!*"
Two more abominations were eliminated. At this rate, she could wipe out the entire restaurant in under five minutes. But just then, the advancing abominations suddenly stood transfixed.
What was going on? Yu Xing frowned. Did abominations even know fear? The ones at the carnival grounds hadn’t been this sophisticated.
Before she could figure it out, a clear voice rang out.
"Save me… please save me…"
It was a woman’s voice—young and filled with agony, pleading for help.
The moment Yu Xing heard it, her breath hitched. It felt like ants were crawling inside her skull, a faint but sharp, needle-like pain.
"Save me…" A figure shoved through the abominations and stumbled toward her.
It was a skeletal and hollow-eyed woman in billowing robes, her belly swollen and prominent.
"Save me…" Tears welled in the woman’s eyes as her legs gave way, and she crumpled to the ground.
"Thud!"
The woman fell to the ground, and a dark wet stain instantly pooled beneath her. Blood mingled with amniotic fluid oozed out as she writhed in agony.
"Ah..." Her voice was raw with agony. She stretched a hand toward Yu Xing, as if pleading for help.
Yu Xing watched, her heart icy and detached, observing the scene unfold without a flicker of emotion. The woman began giving birth right in front of her, while Yu Xing remained a silent bystander, surrounded by a dozen or more corrupted beings. Anyone witnessing the scene in the restaurant would have found it downright unnerving.
As she watched, Yu Xing suddenly jolted in realization.
*Why am I standing here watching her give birth?*
Yu Xing had always considered herself a kind person. Even if she knew this was a contaminant, she wouldn’t be so cold as to simply observe. That detached emotion didn’t feel like her own. Moreover, since she knew this was a contaminant, why hadn’t she acted to eliminate it? Standing there like an idiot—what was the difference between that and being a fool?
Coming to her senses, Yu Xing took a step back. Instantly, a sharp, excruciating pain shot through her head—a hundred times worse than before.
Frowning, she raised her wand high once more. This thing wasn’t like the others.
But just as she lifted her hand, the woman suddenly let out a scream, and more watery pink fluid gushed from beneath her.
At the same time, a slick, purplish lump slowly pushed out from between the woman’s legs. The moment Yu Xing saw it, her headache vanished instantly.
Her eyes widened as she stared at the thing, a wave of inexplicable tenderness and joy swelling in her chest.
The sheer bliss overwhelmed her, filling her with such delight and happiness that she wanted to cry.
"It’s happening..." Yu Xing murmured, her voice trembling. "The head is out..."
The purplish mass slid out slowly—first the head, then the body, and finally the legs. A full baby emerged!
"It’s born, it’s born!" Yu Xing wept with emotion. "This is so wonderful, truly wonderful..."
Unlike the previous contaminants, this child wasn’t fair and plump. Instead, its entire body was a ghastly blue-purple, and it lay completely still, eyes tightly shut. Upon closer inspection, its limbs appeared unnaturally twisted.
The woman sat up, cradling the lifeless child in her arms, and began to sob.
Yu Xing also started crying, crushed by grief, like the world was ending. How could a child born with such suffering not move? Who could save it?
Weeping, the woman carried the child to Yu Xing and held it out. Yu Xing instinctively reached out and took the baby into her arms.
Holding the child, Yu Xing continued to cry uncontrollably, while the woman stood before her, still weeping.
Yet, as the baby rested in Yu Xing’s embrace, its tiny body gave a faint shudder. Yu Xing didn’t notice—she was too lost in her sorrow, sobbing uncontrollably.
The blue-purple infant trembled faintly in her arms. First, its eyes cracked open slightly, then its mouth parted just a sliver, revealing needle-like teeth glistening under the lights.
Yu Xing kept crying.
The woman’s crying stopped dead. The baby’s eyes flew wide open.
Yu Xing still wept.
A smile spread across the woman’s face. The baby’s mouth gaped impossibly wide, its razor-sharp fangs bared in a predator’s grin.
The infant’s head suddenly jerked upward.
At that exact moment, the restaurant was swallowed by darkness as the lights went out. Simultaneously, something crashed down from above—right into Yu Xing’s arms.
This restaurant was located in District D, an old establishment. The owner was infamously cheap, unwilling to renovate the place for years. After all, those who dined in District D weren’t wealthy—they weren’t worth fancy decor or a decent dining environment.
So, everything in the shop was repaired whenever possible, and new items were only bought when they were truly beyond repair.
Since District D had few customers at night, the restaurant usually closed around 7 p.m. As a result, the overhead light was rarely used, and after all these years, it was hanging by a thread.
But tonight, no one turned off the lights until late, and the overhead light finally gave up, letting out a dying whine before ending its life.
Out of nowhere, Yu Xing's hands were slammed by the plummeting light.
Fortunately, she was holding a baby in her arms, and the light landed on the infant, so Yu Xing wasn’t injured. Unfortunately, caught off guard by the impact, she let go, and the baby was dropped.
Standing in the darkness, she stood stunned for a moment before hurriedly turning on her device’s light.
The light from the device illuminated the ground, revealing the tiny baby crushed under the large lamp, its body pierced everywhere by shattered glass.
The woman in front of Yu Xing also seemed shocked by the chaos, standing motionless in place, momentarily unresponsive.
The two remained silent for a long while before Yu Xing crouched down, pushed aside the lamp, and grabbed the baby by its slightly deformed leg, lifting it like a large frog before handing it back to the woman. "Here, take it."
The woman dazedly reached out and took the baby.
As she held the infant, a weird link formed between her and Yu Xing.
Yu Xing turned around and began trying to remember where Granny was.
The woman, still holding the baby, started walking toward Yu Xing, but the fallen lamp lay between them.
So, she stepped onto the lamp, with a loud crack. Her foot slipped, and she toppled forward with the baby in her arms. Ahead was a table with a broken leg, and her head slammed hard into the corner with a sickening thud.
The table tilted from the impact, and the woman rolled off it. After rolling twice on the ground, she was stopped by the counter, finally coming to a halt. But the counter took a heavy hit, causing a handmade sculpture placed there for good luck to wobble before crashing down.
"Splat!"
The sculpture landed squarely on the woman’s face, caving it in deeply. The woman, who had been struggling to get up, immediately went still.
Yu Xing witnessed the entire scene, and her kind heart couldn’t help but feel a pang of pity.
Just as Yu Xing assumed the woman had to be dead, the hand holding the baby trembled slightly, and she began struggling again.
Truly a pollutant—so hard to kill!
Yu Xing decided to end her suffering and lifted her wand once more.
"Avada Kendagua!"
After a flash of lightning, the restaurant finally fell into dead silence.
Dark and silent, with only the beam of light from Yu Xing’s terminal illuminating the scene ahead.
The woman’s blackened corpse, struck by lightning, would never move again. A flickering purple light gradually spread across her surface, eventually condensing into a small purple orb above her body.
The source was right here.
Go figure.
Yu Xing walked over and collected the pollution source. It was a prized find—not only could it be exchanged for treasures, but also for money.
Even after she retrieved the pollutant, the woman’s body remained tightly clutching the baby in her arms, despite being stone-cold dead.
The other pollutants in the restaurant all collapsed into puddles of gore after the woman’s death.
Not just the restaurant—at the same time, across all seven cities, every pollutant instantly melted into sludge.
Some Divine Chosen were mid-fight with pollutants when suddenly, their opponents collapsed, drenching them in muck.
First confused, they soon realized—the pollution source had been resolved.
At that moment, Bai Qinghe was leading his team toward District D. After spotting Happy Restaurant on surveillance, they suspected the pollution source might be there and immediately set off.
Their vehicle had just passed through the gate to District D when Su Wenmo received a message in the car.
She glanced at it, then turned to Bai Qinghe, who was frowning deeply, and said in disbelief, "Boss, the pollution source has been resolved!"
Bai Qinghe froze. Su Wenmo added, "All the pollutants collapsed on their own."
This was exactly what happened after a pollution source was eliminated. Taking it in, he asked, "Who resolved it?"
"No clue," Su Wenmo replied, blinking at her terminal. "I just checked—it wasn’t anyone from the Divine Chosen Team or the military."
After handling the pollution source, Yu Xing continued searching for her grandmother. She remembered her grandmother mentioning she usually helped in the kitchen, so she headed there.
The kitchen floor was also covered in large pools of filthy blood, indicating pollutants had been there too.
After searching for a while, she finally found her grandmother in a corner of the kitchen, leaning against the wall with her eyes closed.
Yu Xing’s heart lurched. She reached out but suddenly remembered her Jinx Touch and slowly withdrew her hand, clenching her fist.
She crouched beside her grandmother, who had a few dishes in front of her—she must have been washing them before passing out.
There were no visible injuries on her body, and her complexion was normal. Since she remained unchanged even after the pollution source’s death, it meant she hadn’t been contaminated.
For her to remain uncontaminated in such circumstances was a damn miracle, but Yu Xing didn’t overthink it.
After a moment’s thought, she scrolled to a contact on her terminal.
Late at night, Jiang Hui sat by his bed, smoking. Too wired to sleep, he had gotten up for a cigarette. Sure enough, someone messaged him about a contamination flare-up at an amusement park in District C, which could potentially spread across all seven cities.
How many years had it been since something like this happened?
Jiang Hui held the cigarette between his fingers, gazing up at the white and purple moons outside his window, lost in thought.
Would he have to move to another city and start over again?
Just as he was mulling things over, his terminal rang.
He bolted upright immediately upon seeing the caller—it was that mysterious girl.
He answered with a smile, "Oh, you finally contacted me? What’s the job?"
A raspy voice came from the other end, "Come to this location immediately..."
Jiang Hui was taken aback. "What? Is this Yu Xing?"
"Hurry up," the voice barked impatiently. "If you’re not here in ten minutes, you’ll regret it."
In the middle of pondering life, he was suddenly assigned a task. Grumbling but resigned, Jiang Hui checked the time—ten minutes? Tight. He had to leave right away.
Just before heading out, a friend sent him another message: the pollution source had been resolved.
"Hmph," Jiang Hui raised an eyebrow, thinking to himself that the Divine Chosen squad was quite efficient these days.
He parked his old ambulance at the back door of Happy Restaurant and pushed the door open. It was completely dark inside, and even through his mask, he could smell the thick, pungent scent of blood.
What happened here?
He turned on his terminal’s flashlight and saw the dried blood on the floor.
Jiang Hui’s heart tightened, and he cautiously moved forward into the dining area. There, he saw even more bloodstains and a charred, bisected corpse.
He had a hunch, and it was confirmed when he entered the kitchen.
Inside the kitchen, he saw a figure standing by the window, wearing a grotesque mask.
The Bull Warrior Mask, with its exaggerated bull horns, covered the entire face, while an oversized red trench coat concealed the figure’s body. She stood there, arms crossed, silently watching Jiang Hui from behind the mask.
Jiang Hui got goosebumps, and his throat went dry.
He recalled the lightning marks he’d seen at Sister Xiu’s hair salon and the information he’d gotten from Wang Kunyu. All of it suggested that the person before him might be at least a Level 4 Divine Chosen.
"Outside…" Jiang Hui swallowed again. "Were you the one who took out the pollution source this time?"
The Bull Warrior didn’t speak, but she didn’t deny it either.
That settled it. He couldn’t help but wonder—while all the Divine Chosen squads across the Seven Cities were searching for the pollution source, how had the Bull Warrior found it before everyone else?
His mind was still reeling when the Bull Warrior pointed to a corner.
Jiang Hui hurried over and was stunned to see an elderly woman lying there.
"Check her condition," the Bull Warrior said in a rasping voice.
Jiang Hui didn’t understand why the Bull Warrior hadn’t just taken the old woman to his clinic directly. Wasn't this just wasting time?
But he didn’t dare ask. He dropped to his knees and began examining the old woman.
After checking, Jiang Hui sighed in relief. "She’s fine. Physically, there’s no issue. She's just unconscious."
As soon as he finished speaking, he felt the tension suddenly ease, as if the oppressive atmosphere had dissipated.
What was the relationship between this old woman and the Bull Warrior? The Bull Warrior seemed unusually protective of her.
"Take her," the Bull Warrior said. "Let’s go."
Jiang Hui picked up the old woman, and together with the Bull Warrior, they left Happy Restaurant. Once in the ambulance, the Bull Warrior remained silent. Jiang Hui had met his share of weirdos in his line of work, but few were as strange as the Bull Warrior.
She was clearly a high-level Divine Chosen, yet she had no official record in the Federation.
She had the power to amass endless wealth, yet she wore a ratty red trench coat.
Why couldn’t she show her true face?
And why had she saved this old woman?
What was her relationship with Yu Xing, the Follower of the God of Misfortune?
Jiang Hui was burning with questions, but he didn’t dare ask. Around the Bull Warrior, he barely dared to breathe. Unlike Yu Xing, the Bull Warrior wasn’t someone he could casually chat with.
Just as the ambulance was approaching the clinic, his friend sent him another message. He hadn’t planned to check it, but distracted, he accidentally opened it—and saw a photo his friend had sent.
It was a picture of someone flying in the sky.
The person wore a red trench coat and the Bull Warrior Mask, and was somehow riding a broomstick, clearing the wall between District C and District D.
Jiang Hui’s eyes widened in complete disbelief!
He couldn’t help but be stunned—because the person in the photo was sitting right beside him.
Mind reeling, Jiang Hui turned to look at the Bull Warrior. Sensing his gaze, she looked back at him. The two stared at each other in silence for a long moment.
Finally, Jiang Hui took off his mask and showed her the photo. "That’s you, right?"
The Bull Warrior didn’t answer. Jiang Hui pushed, "Did you know the pollution source was in District D? Did you go there for it?"
Still, the Bull Warrior remained silent.
"No," Jiang Hui turned to look at the old woman lying behind them. "You went to save her?"
No matter how he phrased it, the Bull Warrior refused to speak. Jiang Hui realized she probably didn’t want to talk to him. So he raised a finger and said, "One last question! Just answer me one last question, and I’ll give the old woman a full workup gratis—no charge!"
Only then did the Bull Warrior finally nod.
Jiang Hui excitedly stabbed his finger at the broomstick in the photo. "Is this some kind of new flight tech?"
The Bull Warrior stared at the photo for a long while before slowly shaking her head.
Not a flight tech?!
Jiang Hui's mind blanked. If not tech, then what was it? Could a broomstick really fly?
Or was it that the Bull Warrior could fly—and just liked carrying a broomstick while doing so?
He opened his mouth to press further, but the Bull Warrior ignored him.
Bai Qinghe’s team arrived in District D, still in the dark about who had resolved the pollution source. But since the crisis had been averted, there was no immediate danger.
The car stopped by the roadside. After muttering about another crisis averted, Lin Sen asked, "Where to next?"
The team members all looked at Bai Qinghe, waiting for their captain’s suggestion.
Bai Qinghe was running on fumes. He didn’t know how the pollution source had appeared, nor how it had been eliminated—he'd been chasing ghosts all day.
His psyche was fried earlier, and now his head pounded like a drum. Ideally, he’d go straight to sleep.
But since they were already in District D, Bai Qinghe thought for a moment and said, "Let’s follow through on the original plan and check out Happy Restaurant. We’re here, may as well."
No one objected, and soon the car arrived at Happy Restaurant.
The restaurant’s door was closed, and the inside was pitch black.
Since the pollution source had already been dealt with, they had nothing to worry about, so they shouldered the door open.
The moment they did, a thick metallic reek of blood mixed with the smell of burning hit them like a wall. All five immediately clapped hands over their noses.
Su Wenmo turned on a light and played the beam inside—only to reveal a floor slick with blood.
"Captain…" Su Wenmo swallowed hard. "Our intel was good. This was definitely ground zero."
Bai Qinghe covered his nose and mouth as he walked through the bloody mess into the shop. Inside, he found signs of lightning and eventually discovered a charred body near the counter.
The squad gathered around.
"Could this be the taint source?"
"Very likely."
"Who did this? Was it the Beloved of the God of Thunder and Lightning?"
"Wenmo," Bai Qinghe squatted by the corpse and said to Su Wenmo, "Check the restaurant's surveillance footage."
The restaurant's surveillance was a private system, so Su Wenmo couldn't directly access it. She first connected to the restaurant's network system. While retrieving the internal footage, she also pulled the street cam footage outside the restaurant—and spotted something shocking.
"Look at this!" Su Wenmo exclaimed, gesturing at the screen, stunned.
The teammates immediately crowded around. Su Wenmo pointed at the video and said, "Not even 30 minutes before we got here, someone was here!"
The video paused on a frame showing a person standing at the restaurant's entrance, pushing the door open.
They had all seen this person before—only once, but the impression was unforgettable.
"Bull Warrior," Bai Qinghe whispered the name softly.
