Chapter 6 No Such Thing as a Losing Bet
byChapter 6: Never a Losing Deal
In the office, only Shi Yu and a couple of others remained.
The dean looked sternly at Shi Ciye: "Mr. Shi, I'd like to discuss the issue with Shi Yu."
Shi Ciye asked Shi Yu and the others to leave the office.
After everyone else left, the dean pondered for a moment and said, "Well, I just learned that Shi Yu has a mental illness. The faculty has discussed it and we plan to suspend Shi Yu for a period of time.
Although Shi Yu's intentions in this matter were good, his methods were unacceptable. If another student provokes him and he loses control, leading to more extreme actions, the school cannot bear the consequences.
Perhaps it would be better to wait until Shi Yu's condition is more stable before he returns to school?"
After hearing the dean's words, Shi Ciye didn't plead Shi Yu's case: "I'll respect whatever the school decides."
Once they were outside, Shi Ciye said to Shi Yu, "The school intends to suspend you."
Before Shi Yu could speak, Shi Yù interjected anxiously, "Dad, can you please talk to the school again?"
Shi Ciye said coldly, "He created the mess himself. I don't have time to keep cleaning up his mess."
Shi Yu said nonchalantly, "Fine, I'm suspended. Internships are coming up anyway. Worst case, I'll just hit up some bars and travel."
Shi Ciye's anger flared up: "Not only do you not show any remorse, but you're thinking about partying and having fun. You're going to Xinke for an internship starting tomorrow! I'll have Jiang Ji keep an eye on you."
With that, he stormed off furiously.
Shi Yu waved at Shi Ciye's back and said, "Sure thing, whatever Mr. Shi says." Then, he extended his hand to Jiang Ji with a smile, "General Manager Jiang, we're coworkers now. Looking forward to learning from you."
Jiang Ji shook Shi Yu's hand, leaned in, and whispered, "One slap for a ticket into Xinke—not a bad trade."
Shi Yu retorted without backing down, "I never make a losing bargain."
After Jiang Ji left, someone quietly approached Shi Yu. It was the classmate who had earlier gone to inform Shi Yù about Shi Yu's trouble at school.
Just as Shi Yu handed over the money, Shi Yù jumped out: "You deliberately sent someone to inform me."
He had followed to check on Shi Yu, but ended up witnessing this scene.
The classmate who had taken the money saw that he was found out and fled quickly.
Shi Yu said calmly, "Why else?"
Shi Yù's face, pale as jade, turned slightly red: "What exactly are you trying to do?"
Shi Yu, in a good mood, said bluntly to Shi Yù: "Of course it's to get suspended and get into Xinke. Thanks to you, the whole school thinks I'm crazy. For the sake of public opinion, the school will naturally suspend me."
He had deliberately sent someone to get Shi Yù, counting on Shi Yù to call Jiang Ji. Today was the day Jiang Ji was announced as the person in charge. If Jiang Ji knew, then Shi Ciye would definitely know.
Knowing Dad's temper, he'd think I started it.
Later, when Dad realized he'd blamed me wrongly, he would at least give me some compensation.
And it worked out perfectly.
Shi Yù hadn't expected to be used from beginning to end: "Didn't it occur to you how much you'd hurt Zhang Linfeng?"
Shi Yu's face darkened. He walked up to Shi Yù: "Shi Yù, are you saying Zhang Linfeng is innocent? And that the bun shop owner deserved to be bullied?"
Shi Yù immediately lost his steam: "That's not what I meant. I just think your methods are a little extreme..."
Shi Yu's hand clamped around Shi Yù's neck, pressing him hard against the wall, his voice fierce: "Shi Yù, didn't I warn you? If you want what you want, don't provoke me.
Also, don't play the good guy in front of me. I dared to use you because I was counting on your dirty secrets. Are you going to claim that when you called me sick in front of everyone, that was just a slip of the tongue?"
Shi Yù desperately slapped at Shi Yu's hand.
Seeing that Shi Yù was really about to suffocate, Shi Yu suddenly let go.
Shi Yù collapsed onto the floor, coughing and saying, "Aren't you afraid... cough... I'll tell Dad... cough..."
Shi Yu stared coldly at Shi Yù on the floor, then turned and left: "Don't be naive. You think someone as shrewd as Dad wouldn't see through it? Letting me into Xinke is his way of making up for that slap."
Shi Yù sat on the floor for a long time. He took out his phone, stared at a name in it, and did not make the call for a long time.
——
At the bun shop behind the school, the owner Wan Ping had just closed the door when she turned around and was startled by a figure standing behind her.
After recognizing who it was, Wan Ping directly picked up a rolling pin from the table and swung it.
Shi Yu covered his head and dodged: "Mom, stop hitting me! I'm sorry!!"
In the cramped space, one dodged and the other chased.
Until Wan Ping got tired of chasing, she started gesturing: "Why did you do that to him?"
Shi Yu muttered, "Why did he have to steal from you of all people?"
Wan Ping: "It wasn't that much money. By doing this, you'll only get yourself into trouble."
Shi Yu came over, reached out and touched Wan Ping's forehead: "Mom, are you okay? Usually you would be pained even if a single dime fell on the floor. Today you say it's not much money?"
Wan Ping brushed away Shi Yu's hand and saw a glaring slap mark on his face.
Earlier in the dean's office, Shi Yu had kept his head down, and she had deliberately avoided looking in his direction, afraid that someone would notice their relationship.
She cupped Shi Yu's face, her eyes filled with concern.
Shi Yu said nonchalantly, "The old man hit me. It doesn't hurt anymore."
Wan Ping sighed, then went to get some medicine.
