Chapter 7 Starting an Internship at the Company
byChapter 7: Starting the Internship at the Company
When Shi Yu returned to the Shi residence, it was already ten o'clock at night.
As soon as he went upstairs, he saw Shi Yü rushing down frantically.
He was startled when he saw Shi Yü.
"Xiao Yu, you're back." Shi Yü struggled to hide the panic on his face, forcing a stiff smile.
Shi Yu squinted at Shi Yü: "Why do you look like you've seen a ghost?"
Shi Yü: "Had a nightmare, came down to get some water."
Shi Yu looked up and saw Shi Yan standing at the top of the stairs on the second floor. He stood in the dim light, his expression unreadable.
Shi Yü seemed to notice Shi Yan as well and shrank back.
Shi Yu's gaze shifted between the two of them: These two...
When he reached the second floor, Shi Yan called out to Shi Yu: "You're going to Xinke tomorrow?"
Shi Yu turned back: "Big brother is well-informed."
Shi Yan's tone was loaded with meaning: "Shi Yu, are you going to compete with me?"
Shi Yu chuckled: "Big brother, how can you be sure that what you have is truly yours?"
He ignored Shi Yan's livid expression and walked away humming a tune.
As he passed Jiang Meijiao's room, he suddenly heard the sound of a glass breaking inside.
Seeing the door was open, Shi Yu pushed it open: "Mom, what's wrong?"
When Jiang Meijiao saw it was Shi Yu, she didn't seem particularly warm: "It's Xiao Yu. I'm fine. I just wanted some water, but I couldn't hold the cup."
Under normal circumstances, as long as Shi Yu and Shi Yü weren't together, Jiang Meijiao's emotions wouldn't fluctuate much, and she could recognize people correctly.
But whenever Shi Yu and Shi Yü appeared together, Jiang Meijiao would always mistake Shi Yü for Shi Yu.
Shi Yu walked over, picked up a new cup, and poured Jiang Meijiao another glass of water: "I'll have the maid come up later to sweep up the glass shards."
Then he handed the water to Jiang Meijiao.
After drinking, Jiang Meijiao handed the cup back to Shi Yu.
As Shi Yu placed the cup back on the table, his hand accidentally knocked over a medicine bottle on the table.
The bottle rolled to the floor. When Shi Yu picked it up, his hand paused.
Jiang Meijiao noticed and asked, "Xiao Yu, what's wrong?"
Shi Yu put the bottle back on the table: "Nothing, Mom. Get some good rest. I'll go ask the maid to clean up the broken glass."
After leaving the room, Shi Yu kept pondering the feel of the medicine bottle in his hand.
Inside the room, Jiang Meijiao stared blankly at the bottle on the table.
He quickly returned to his own room, picked up his own medicine bottle, and tested its weight. The feel was off.
Jiang Meijiao's bottle was too heavy.
Last time Dr. Li came for a follow-up, he clearly said that both his own and Jiang Meijiao's medicine bottles were nearly empty. But when he had picked up Jiang Meijiao's bottle just now, it didn't feel like an empty bottle at all.
Shi Yu stared at the medicine bottle, deep in thought.
Because of this, Shi Yu didn't sleep well all night.
When Jiang Ji came knocking, Shi Yu was still fast asleep in bed.
Hearing no movement inside, Jiang Ji used the key he had obtained from the butler to open the door to Shi Yu's room.
The floor was littered with wooden blocks and sawdust.
Standing by the door, Jiang Ji called out, "Young master, today is your first day of internship."
Shi Yu grabbed a pillow from the bed and threw it: "Get lost."
Jiang Ji walked in, pulled back the covers, and hauled him out of the warm bed.
Exposed to the cold air, Shi Yu suddenly woke up. Before he could curse, he was lifted off the ground.
Jiang Ji hoisted him over his shoulder and dumped him into the bathroom, then closed the door behind him.
Inside the bathroom, Shi Yu kicked the door angrily: "Jiang Ji, you've got guts! When I get out, you're dead meat."
Jiang Ji glanced at his watch and said coolly, "Didn't you beg for this internship yourself, young master? Mr. Shi asked me to supervise you during your internship."
Only then did Shi Yu fall silent.
After washing up and leaving the bathroom, Shi Yu started dawdling, trying to pick out clothes.
Jiang Ji lost patience. He walked into the dressing room and saw Shi Yu standing in front of the mirror, comparing clothes. He knocked on the door frame: "Young master, you're going to work, not a fashion show."
Shi Yu, holding a satin white shirt, said, "The first day of work calls for a fresh look, don't you think? You sure you want to keep standing there?"
Jiang Ji looked at him in puzzlement.
Shi Yu then slowly unbuttoned his pajama shirt in front of Jiang Ji.
Jiang Ji turned and left.
As Shi Yu went downstairs, through the corridor window, he saw Shi Yü pushing Jiang Meijiao in a wheelchair, enjoying the sun.
Remembering the medicine bottle from last night, Shi Yu turned and said, "I forgot something."
After retrieving the item, when he came out again, he saw Shi Yü stuffing something into Jiang Ji's hands.
When Shi Yü noticed Shi Yu approaching, he couldn't meet his eyes and quickly hurried away.
Shi Yu looked at the lunchbox in Jiang Ji's hand, walked over, and snatched it away: "A love lunch? Perfect, I haven't had breakfast..."
Before he could finish, the lunchbox was back in Jiang Ji's hands.
Jiang Ji: "You didn't eat because you woke up late. This isn't your breakfast."
Shi Yu shrugged indifferently.
In the car, Shi Yu asked, "Which department am I going to?" Jiang Ji: "As my assistant."
Shi Yu looked at Jiang Ji in disbelief: "Are you crazy? You want me to be your assistant?"
Jiang Ji: "To be precise, it was Mr. Shi's idea."
After entering the company, Shi Yu set aside his dissatisfaction at being Jiang Ji's assistant.
Even while waiting for the elevator, he quickly steadied a girl who was rushing to get in and nearly fell: "Careful."
The girl turned around, saw the gentle smile on Shi Yu's face, and instantly blushed: "Thank you."
When the private elevator for Jiang Ji and his group arrived, Shi Yu wiped off his smile and followed Jiang Ji into the elevator.
After the elevator doors closed, Jiang Ji suddenly said: "Nice act."
Shi Yu: "Thanks, I'll take that as a compliment."
The morning passed in a blur. Jiang Ji looked up from the documents, saw the secretary standing before him, and as if remembering something, turned his head to look outside.
He saw Shi Yu chatting and laughing with some employees.
The secretary also followed Jiang Ji's gaze. Aware of who Shi Yu was, he couldn't help commenting: "Our young master is quite the social butterfly. In just one morning, he's added eight people on WeChat. And I heard they're throwing a welcome party for him tonight."
The secretary's words surprised Jiang Ji. He had originally thought Shi Yu would be very uncomfortable being under someone else's command, but unexpectedly, he was adapting quite well.
"Ring—" The phone that Jiang Ji had placed face-down on the desk rang.
After seeing the caller ID, he asked the secretary to leave the office before answering: "What's wrong?"
The voice on the other end was extremely hoarse: "Be careful. Someone's been looking into you lately."
Jiang Ji's gaze immediately passed through the glass and landed on Shi Yu.
Shi Yu, sensing something, turned around and saw Jiang Ji staring at him. He took a sip of his coffee without changing expression.
