Chapter 13 Wishing You a Good Night’s Sleep
byChapter 13: Sleep Well
Shi Ciye, watching the live stream, widened his eyes in shock: "What the hell is he talking about?! Tell him to kill the stream and get his ass back here right now!!"
The butler immediately called Shi Yu.
Shi Yu saw the call and silently put the phone down.
The butler said to Shi Ciye: "Sir, the young master isn't answering the phone!"
Shi Ciye: "Have someone kill his stream."
Shi Yan, watching Shi Yu ranting in the live stream, scolded his subordinates: "What are you standing around for? Get the hell out there and put out a PR statement!"
Meanwhile, Shi Yu was still talking: "It shouldn't be long before you see my dear big brother’s PR statement, saying I’m mentally unstable and talking nonsense."
"Just whispering—does the young master really have that condition?"
Shi Yu: "Yes, I’m sick, seriously sick. I lose it every once in a while, and isn’t that what I’m doing right now? If I weren’t crazy, would I be telling you all this?"
"I love this 'doesn't stress himself out' persona of the young master!"
"Which modern young person doesn’t go crazy? If you don’t, someone else will."
"Perfectly displaying the wonderful mental state of today’s youth."
Shi Yu looked at his vibrating phone and smiled: "The old man at home is calling, probably going to shut down my stream. As a poor little guy nobody loves, I’m always full of grievances..."
Before he could finish, the stream went dark.
Xiao Ma, who was helping Shi Yu with the stream, said: "Bro Yu, the stream got shut down."
Shi Yu was completely calm: "So be it, this matter is already out in the open anyway. Now I can only lie on my seven-foot bed, eating a seafood feast and wallowing in self-pity alone."
Shi Ciye is all about saving face, and Shi Yu ripped off the Shi family's face and stomped on it. Shi Ciye must be furious right now. If he goes back now, isn't he just walking right into a trap?
—
At the Shi residence, Jiang Ji put away his phone as the live stream went dark.
Shi Yan had originally been about to release a PR statement, but because Shi Yu had already predicted it in the stream, he was now stuck—couldn't release it, couldn't not release it.
On Shi Ciye’s side, he was monitoring the online situation: "Chairman, the internet is saying the Shi brothers are at each other's throats..."
"Find Shi Yu and make him admit that everything he said was just nonsense born from a family quarrel." Shi Ciye ordered his men with a dark face.
His men looked troubled: "Chairman, the young master’s location has gone dark, and his phone is turned off."
"Search every inch of the ground if you have to!" Shi Ciye barked at his men. "Linhai is only so big; I don’t believe he can crawl into a hole somewhere."
—
At Liu Zhixin’s home—
The police were questioning Liu Zhixin’s wife: "Did you know that your husband had an extramarital affair?"
Liu Zhixin’s wife nodded: "Yes, I did."
The police gave her a surprised look: "You knew."
Liu Zhixin’s wife gave a bitter smile: "Officer, for a middle-aged couple like us, we don’t have any love or passion left. The only reason we stayed married was because divorce was too much trouble. I knew about his affair a long time ago, but I just didn’t want to deal with it."
The police: "Did Liu Zhixin behave unusually before the incident?"
Liu Zhixin’s wife shook her head at first, then said: "Does saying he wanted your whole family to move abroad count?"
The police frowned: "Why did he suddenly want the family to emigrate?"
Liu Zhixin’s wife: "He said his mistress was pregnant, and she kept pestering him—he couldn’t shake her off. Besides, our son is about to start high school, and going abroad would allow him to apply to a good college.
At first I didn’t take it seriously. But somehow his mistress found out he wanted to move abroad, and she came straight to our home. After Liu Zhixin found out, he threw a massive fit. When that mistress left, she yelled at him, saying he'd never shake her off."
After gathering the information, the police officer stood up and said to Liu Zhixin’s wife: "I'm sorry for your loss."
Liu Zhixin’s wife nodded and saw the police out.
Not long after the police left, Shi Yu arrived.
Liu Zhixin’s wife saw Shi Yu standing at the door and let him in.
Once inside, Shi Yu looked at the portrait hanging in the hall and said calmly: "As expected, men only behave when they’re hanging on the wall."
Liu Zhixin’s wife paused in the middle of pouring water. Behind her, she heard the sound of a cane tapping—thump, thump, thump—
Her mind flashed back to that night.
"I remember I already gave you what you asked for," Liu Zhixin’s wife turned around, tense.
Shi Yu leaned against the bar counter: "Relax, I’m not here to cause trouble. I’m here to pay my respects." He slid a box across the counter toward Liu Zhixin’s wife: "A present. You’ll like it."
With that, he turned and left: "I hope you sleep well from now on."
Liu Zhixin’s wife looked at the box on the counter. She opened it—inside was a wooden carving.
The carving depicted Liu Zhixin exactly as he looked right before he died.
On top of the carving was a piece of paper with the words: "I call it—'The One Who Fell.'"
Liu Zhixin’s wife picked up the wood carving, looked at it over and over, then covered her face and let out a dark, joyful laugh.
—Three months earlier—
"Zhixin, please, you can’t touch that money. That’s what I saved for Pingping's education." Liu Zhixin’s wife knelt on the ground, clutching her husband’s leg to keep him from leaving.
But Liu Zhixin kicked his wife aside: "I told you, I’m just borrowing it temporarily. Once I pay it back, I’ll make way more soon."
His wife struggled to get up from the floor and blocked Liu Zhixin’s path.
"You bought houses and cars for that mistress of yours without ever thinking about this family. Now that you’ve lost money in stocks, you don’t ask your mistress for help—instead you come back to rob our home. Liu Zhixin, you’re inhuman!"
As she spoke, she lunged at Liu Zhixin, grappling with him: "That money is for Pingping’s education. If you dare touch it, I’ll make your life a living hell!"
Seeing his wife wouldn't let up, Liu Zhixin grew vicious, beating her repeatedly with his fists.
Only after his wife collapsed at the door and stopped moving did Liu Zhixin grab the money and leave.
Liu Zhixin’s wife lay on the cold floor, she heard the thump—thump—thump—of a cane.
Finally, the sound came to a halt right in front of her. She struggled to open her eyes, and what she saw was a beauty so striking that even the night couldn't hide it.
How pitiful. Asking me for help?
She heard the person ask her.
Liu Zhixin's wife grabbed the person's cane: "Help me."
—
Liu Zhixin's wife put the wood carving into the box. The memory ended, and so did her nightmare.
From now on, she could finally sleep well.
Shi Yu hummed a tune as he left Liu Zhixin's place. He walked through the long hallway, but at the far end he saw Jiang Ji leaning against the wall smoking.
Shi Yu tilted his head: "Ah, I've been found."
