Chapter 8 Jiang Ji, Be Grateful to Me.
byChapter 8: Jiang Ji, you should be grateful to me.
After work, colleagues clamored to hold a welcome party for Shi Yu, and Shi Yu didn't refuse, so he went along.
"Shi Yu, if I had your face, I wouldn't be stuck as a wage slave. Just sleep with a few big shots, and an easy life with good food and drink would be a piece of cake." A male colleague who had drunk too much began to speak recklessly: "How about I introduce you to one? When you get the benefits, don't forget me, big bro."
The other colleagues present changed their expressions and tried to smooth things over: "Shi Yu, don't mind him. Old Liu always talks nonsense when he's drunk."
Shi Yu smiled, picked up the wine glass on the table, and toasted the colleague who had offered to introduce him to a big shot: "I prefer to earn my own living."
The others laughingly changed the subject. Shi Yu took out his phone and sent an address to Jiang Ji, followed by a message: "Come pick me up."
Jiang Ji was halfway through his drive when he received the message, and he turned back.
He waited for half an hour at the place where Shi Yu and his colleagues were dining before Shi Yu came out with them.
"Shi Yu, how are you getting back?" a colleague asked.
Shi Yu looked at the car parked across the street: "Someone is picking me up."
The colleague who had been drunk and made those wild remarks squinted at the luxury car across the street and curled his lip: "Tch, who are you trying to fool? An intern college student being picked up by a luxury car late at night—if that's not being kept, what is it? And you talk about earning your own living."
A female colleague couldn't help but say: "I thought you were drinking wine, but from the sourness, I'd think you were drinking vinegar."
Seeing that the two were about to argue, the other colleagues quickly mediated.
Already sitting in the car, Shi Yu didn't know that another dispute had almost broken out because of him.
Jiang Ji said to Shi Yu, who had gotten into the car and was already resting with his eyes closed in the passenger seat: "The Shi family has many drivers."
The implication was: don't bother me.
Shi Yu opened his eyes, tilted his head, and looked at Jiang Ji.
Maybe because he had been drinking, his eyes were covered with a layer of moisture: "But I just like ordering you around."
As soon as the words fell, the car fell into silence again.
"By the way, do you know Liu Zhixin from the Second Marketing Department?" Shi Yu suddenly asked.
Jiang Ji: "Not particularly capable, but he's been with the company since the beginning and has some connections. Why do you suddenly ask about him?"
Shi Yu: "He offended me."
Jiang Ji: "Let me give you a heads-up. It won't be easy for you to move against him. He was transferred from 'Times' to Xinke."
Shi Yu: "I like cracking hard bones the most, because the sound of a hard bone breaking is the most satisfying."
Jiang Ji didn't respond. Instead, he drove the car into a small road and finally stopped by the river.
Shi Yu, seeing the car stop, thought they had arrived home. He woke from his doze and realized the surroundings were not familiar. He looked at Jiang Ji.
Jiang Ji: "Let's talk."
Shi Yu: "About what?"
Jiang Ji: "Are you having me investigated?"
Shi Yu was so frank that he didn't even pretend: "Shouldn't I? You took the position of Xinke's head from me. Of course I want to get some leverage on you and kick you out of that position."
Jiang Ji: "Young master, Li Minghui from Times is about to retire."
Shi Yu immediately understood Jiang Ji's meaning. Li Minghui was the deputy general manager of Times Group. If he retired, the one most likely to take his place would be Shi Yan.
Once Shi Yan really became deputy general manager, it would be much harder for Shi Yu to compete. After all, he hadn't even graduated yet, while the other would already be a deputy general manager—there was no comparison in terms of foundation.
Seeing Shi Yu's expression change, Jiang Ji knew he had thought of this: "While you and I are locked in a stalemate like the snipe and the clam, the fisherman has already cast his net. My entry into Xinke was suggested by the eldest young master and Mr. Shi. Mr. Shi didn't oppose it, so you should know his attitude."
Shi Yan knew that Shi Yu had his eyes on the position of Xinke's head, yet he still sent Jiang Ji to Xinke. Wasn't that just to watch Jiang Ji and Shi Yu fight each other while he quietly reaped the position of Times' deputy general manager?
Shi Yu's tone turned icy: "Are you saying that my father has given up on me?" Then, as if he couldn't hold it in, he laughed: "Jiang Ji, are you telling me this to turn from the snipe and clam into the fisherman, to watch me and Shi Yan fight?"
Jiang Ji looked at the smile on Shi Yu's face, with dark currents flowing in his eyes.
Shi Yu chuckled lightly: "No, you and I must be the snipe and clam, so the fisherman can feel at ease."
Jiang Ji suddenly found Shi Yu hard to read. He had always thought Shi Yu was a spoiled young master, arrogant and reckless, acting only on his whims, stopping at nothing to get what he wanted.
But after tonight's conversation, he suddenly realized that Shi Yu had always been clearly aware of his own position. An arrogant person couldn't see their own place clearly.
Their conversation ended there.
Back at the Shi residence, Shi Yu saw Jiang Ji still heading towards the servants' quarters and called out: "Jiang Ji, you're going the wrong way. Your room is over there." He pointed to the main house of the Shi family.
Jiang Ji looked up at the magnificent main house.
Shi Yu's voice came from beside him: "Jiang Ji, I don't know why you want to stay in the Shi family, but shouldn't you thank me?"
Shi Yu: "I could have chosen not to help you, but I still went to Dad and let you stay in the Shi family openly. So, you should be grateful to me."
Jiang Ji had only been in the Shi family for a year before going abroad to study. Over the years, he had only come back two or three times. What could he possibly have left in the Shi family that would make him, upon returning, go to his old place in the middle of the night to move things?
The servants' quarters were occupied year-round, so there was no issue with unstable voltage.
Then there was only one possibility: Jiang Ji deliberately let him know that he was about to leave the Shi family.
What a coincidence that when he stood on the balcony, the light in Jiang Ji's room came on, catching his attention.
Even if he hadn't gone to the balcony that time, Shi Yu, under the pretext of looking for a toolbox, would have gone to the main house and surely alerted him. It could be said that Jiang Ji deliberately sent Shi Yu to the main house to look for a toolbox.
This was confirmed when Shi Yu went to find Jiang Ji.
Not only could Shi Yu see Jiang Ji's room from his own, but Jiang Ji's room could also see that the light in Shi Yu's room was still on. So Jiang Ji had known all along that Shi Yu was still awake.
Jiang Ji was now the head of Xinke, so living in the servants' quarters was obviously inappropriate. But without Shi Ciye's say-so, he could only move out. Clearly, Jiang Ji didn't want to leave the Shi family.
From Jiang Ji's perspective, he had always believed that Shi Yu was someone who didn't like things to slip out of his control.
His becoming the head of Xinke had already infuriated Shi Yu, so how could Shi Yu allow him to leave his sight and become someone uncontrollable? So when he wanted to stay, he almost instinctively thought of using Shi Yu.
But what he didn't expect was that Shi Yu had guessed his plan and even went along with it to let him stay.
In just one night, his previous image of Shi Yu was completely overturned. The person he had thought was harmless had now become the one he needed to be most careful with. This made Jiang Ji's gaze at Shi Yu grow deeper and deeper.
"Liu Zhixin." Jiang Ji suddenly uttered a name. "I don't like owing favors."
Shi Yu said with a smile: "When you told me in the car that Liu Zhixin was transferred from Times, I guessed you were deliberately trying to lead me to investigate him. Since you've brought it up, you might as well tell me everything. Save me the trouble of digging into his background."
Jiang Ji: "Young master, it seems we haven't reached a cooperative relationship yet."
Shi Yu raised an eyebrow: "Fine, don't tell me then. I'll find out sooner or later anyway." As he turned to leave, his smile vanished.
