Chapter 34 Brother Looks Like He Wants to Cry
byChapter 34: The Brother Looks Like He Wants to Cry
"Dr. Hu, you're leaving work so late today."
Hu Sihan nodded and smiled at his neighbor: "Mm."
Upon returning home, Hu Sihan was surprised to see two unfamiliar pairs of men's shoes at the shoe cabinet. He immediately called out, "Honey, do we have guests?"
When he walked into the living room, he saw a fair-skinned man playing happily with his daughter.
Hu Sihan's body stiffened instantly: "Young Master Shi, why are you here?"
As a doctor working at a hospital under the Times Group, Hu Sihan was no stranger to Shi Yu. Especially during the time Shi Yu was hospitalized, he had even diagnosed him.
Shi Yu curved his lips: "It's been a while since I was discharged, and I haven't properly thanked Dr. Hu for taking care of me during my hospital stay. I had some free time today, so I came to pay my respects in person."
Hu Sihan's wife came out of the kitchen: "Lao Hu, you're back. Instead of greeting our guest, why are you standing at the door in a daze?"
Shi Yu sweetly said to Hu Sihan's wife, "Sister Han, don't bother. I'll be leaving soon. I can't bear to have you working so hard in the kitchen all by yourself."
Hu Sihan's wife beamed: "You've got the title wrong, kid. I'm old enough to be your aunt. It's no trouble, it'll be ready soon."
Watching his wife and Shi Yu interact, Hu Sihan's face grew darker. This young master had clearly come prepared.
"Young Master Shi, what do you mean by this?"
Shi Yu patted Hu Sihan's daughter's head: "Tuantuan, can you play by yourself for a bit? Big brother and your dad have a little secret to discuss."
Hu Sihan's daughter: "Alright, but you have to play with me first later, okay?"
In the study, the burly man standing behind Shi Yu placed a photo on Hu Sihan's desk.
The photo was a screenshot from the surveillance video of Nanny Wang entering Hu Sihan's consultation room.
"I want to know why she came to see you?"
After Shi Yu spoke, the burly man pushed a file folder in front of Hu Sihan.
"Before you decide whether to tell the truth, Dr. Hu, you might want to take a look at this document."
Hu Sihan opened the file folder. After just one glance, he quickly slapped the whole file onto the desk.
Inside the file was evidence of him accepting bribes from patients and illegally selling medication.
Seeing Hu Sihan's reaction, Shi Yu coaxed him: "Your daughter has a congenital heart condition, right? You did all this to raise money for her medical expenses, didn't you?"
When Hu Sihan heard Shi Yu mention his daughter, he slammed the table: "Don't touch my daughter!"
Shi Yu: "Relax. I'm just saying your daughter is adorable, and you and Sister Han have a loving relationship. Such a beautiful, harmonious family. I wouldn't bear to see Dr. Hu thrown in jail while his daughter can't afford treatment..."
Hu Sihan stared into Shi Yu's eyes: "If I tell the truth..."
Shi Yu smiled softly and picked up the thread: "Then it will become our little secret."
He gave Hu Sihan the answer he wanted and slid a card across the table: "This card has five hundred thousand in it. The things in the file are just to make you tell me the truth; this half a million is to buy what you have in hand. Dr. Hu has gone to great lengths doing all these things—you must be holding onto something to save your own skin."
Hu Sihan's gaze was fixed on the half a million: "Then I need your guarantee that no matter what you do after learning this, you won't implicate me afterward."
Shi Yu: "Don't worry. No one knows I came to see you today. And you can see my sincerity from the fact that I only brought one person."
Hu Sihan pointed at the photo on the table: "She came to me to set up a file and also had me forge medical records."
Shi Yu immediately seized on the key point: "Whose name?"
Hu Sihan: "Jiang Meijiao."
Shi Yu continued calmly: "Had she come to you before?"
Hu Sihan looked at Shi Yu in surprise: "She came to me before to buy some medication. And it was in the middle of the night, very urgent. She paid five times the price."
Shi Yu clutched his walking stick tightly, forcing himself to remain composed.
So Jiang Meijiao had switched the medication—it all added up.
She had sensed that he discovered the medicine was wrong, so she had someone replace the fake pills in the bottle with real ones overnight.
That's why when he took the medicine from Jiang Meijiao's room for testing, nothing came up.
But Jiang Meijiao still wasn't at ease. She had Nanny Wang keep an eye on him, worried he might uncover something.
He had thought it strange earlier when he asked Dr. Li about the medication, and Nanny Wang suddenly jumped in to pull him away. Clearly, Dr. Li always came to see Jiang Meijiao for her routine checkup before seeing him.
Jiang Meijiao was afraid he would keep investigating the medicine issue, so she had Nanny Wang bribe a doctor at an outside hospital to forge medical records. This explained why the medication Dr. Li prescribed was almost empty, yet she still had a new bottle.
If he really dug deeper, she could just claim that Dr. Li was useless, so she sought treatment from an outside doctor, and that doctor had prescribed the medication.
Jiang Meijiao had gone through all this trouble just to cover up that... she was never sick.
Coming to this conclusion, Shi Yu's mind exploded.
It was as if something he had held onto was crumbling piece by piece.
Everyone said that Madam Shi’s illness stemmed from losing her child—she couldn't bear it and developed a mental disorder.
Even the appearance of the substitute child, also named Shi Yu, was instinctively regarded as Jiang Meijiao's way of missing her own son so much that she found a replacement. Even he himself had believed it.
So even after he returned, when Jiang Meijiao didn't show him much warmth, he forgave her.
He even told himself: "Mom really loves me. She even got sick because of me. She's just sick, so she doesn't remember me. She's just sick..."
But now, he was being told that his mother had never been sick, that she remembered him, and that she clearly knew the other Shi Yu was not her child.
Knowing that Jiang Meijiao wasn't sick made the existence of that other child unbearable.
His breathing started to become rapid and uncontrollable. As a psychiatrist, Hu Sihan immediately noticed something was wrong with Shi Yu. He was about to step forward to check when Shi Yu suddenly stood up.
"Give me the evidence?" Shi Yu looked at Hu Sihan, clenching his teeth.
After confirming that Shi Yu could control his emotions, Hu Sihan opened the safe and took out the contents—a USB drive.
Taking the USB drive, Shi Yu left without a word, followed by his man.
When Sister Han heard the door open, she came out and saw only a closed door. She turned to Hu Sihan, who had come out of the study: "Did you have a fight with him?"
Hu Sihan shook his head: "He just had something come up at home and had to leave quickly." As he spoke, he recalled the look in Shi Yu's eyes when he asked for the evidence.
Deep and calm, yet it felt like it could devour a person.
Hu Sihan's daughter, Tuantuan, came up and grabbed his hand: "Daddy, did someone bully big brother?"
Hu Sihan picked up his daughter: "Why would you say that, Tuantuan?"
Tuantuan wrinkled her little face: "Because big brother looked like he wanted to cry."
Hu Sihan was stunned. He looked at the closed door and patted his daughter's head.
