Chapter 33 Mom, Will You Save Me?
byChapter 33: Mom, Will You Save Me?
“Young master!” Wang Ma opened the door and was startled to see Shi Yu standing there. “What are you doing here?”
Shi Yu smiled as he stepped past Wang Ma and entered Jiang Meijiao’s room. “I came to see Mom. Wang Ma, why do you look like you've seen a ghost when you see me? Did you do something to feel guilty about?”
Wang Ma thought Shi Yu was teasing her. “Young master, don’t joke around with me.”
“Is that Xiao Yu?” Jiang Meijiao called from the inner room.
Shi Yu walked over to Jiang Meijiao, using his cane.
When Jiang Meijiao saw Shi Yu limping, a worried expression appeared on her face. “Your leg... why is it worse again?”
Shi Yu set his cane aside and sat on the edge of Jiang Meijiao’s bed. “Big brother kicked it.”
Jiang Meijiao anxiously reached out to check Shi Yu’s leg. “Why would your brother just go and kick your leg? Doesn’t he know you can’t get hurt there?”
Shi Yu moved his leg out of reach, not letting her touch it. “He knows perfectly well that my leg is my weak spot, so he deliberately kicked it. Mom, you were there when he kicked me. You didn’t stop him at all.”
As Shi Yu spoke, Jiang Meijiao’s gaze grew dazed. “Did I forget? I forgot...”
Wang Ma quickly stepped forward to pat Jiang Meijiao’s back. “Madam, the young master is just joking, kidding around. The young master hurt his leg from a fall. Isn’t that right, young master...”
Faced with Wang Ma’s pointed look, Shi Yu finally spoke. “Yes, I fell myself.”
Jiang Meijiao’s expression slowly calmed, returning to how it was when Shi Yu first entered. “Xiao Yu, why are you here?”
Shi Yu picked up his cane and stood up, forcing a smile. “Sorry, I came to the wrong room.”
He turned to leave Jiang Meijiao’s room but paused by the window.
From the window in Jiang Meijiao’s room, the glass greenhouse was clearly visible.
“Mom, the view from your room is really nice. Not like mine—all I can see is the servants’ quarters.”
Jiang Meijiao kept a gentle smile on her face. “If you like it, come often to keep me company.”
The knot in Shi Yu’s chest began to stir under Jiang Meijiao’s smile.
He moved closer to the window, then turned his back to the wide-open window. “Mom, if I fell from here, would you save me?”
Shi Yu spread his arms, silhouetted against the light, his face unreadable.
Under Jiang Meijiao’s stunned gaze, his body slowly began to tilt backward out the window.
“Young master—”
“Shi Yu—!”
Amid the cries from Wang Ma and Jiang Meijiao, Shi Yu caught himself on the windowsill, stopping his fall. Then he burst into loud laughter. “Mom, you didn’t really believe that, did you? I even pray to the Buddha for a long life when I visit temples. Why would I try to die?”
Jiang Meijiao let out a relieved sigh and said impatiently, “You kid, you scared me to death!”
Shi Yu laughed and straightened up. “I’m done playing. I’ll head out now.”
The test was over, and his ridiculous hope had been crushed.
He had really thought that if Jiang Meijiao had rushed over the moment he made a move, he would stop investigating her.
Jiang Meijiao clearly sensed something off about Shi Yu. “Wang Ma, does Shi Yu know something?”
Wang Ma asked, “Should we have someone keep an eye on the young master?”
Jiang Meijiao said, “Be careful. Don’t let him notice.”
——
At that moment, Shi Yu sat in the car, thinking about the information he had received after returning from the hospital.
Earlier, he had run into Wang Ma at the hospital. She said she had a stomachache, but she was actually going to the psychiatric department.
He had a feeling something was off and had someone secretly look into the doctors Wang Ma had been in touch with.
Sure enough, he dug up quite a few problems.
He had planned to just leave, but when he passed Jiang Meijiao’s room, he hesitated for no reason he could name.
He had a feeling that if he kept digging, there would be no turning back.
“Young master, where are we going now?” The Shi family’s driver, noticing Shi Yu’s silence since getting in the car, asked nervously.
Shi Yu opened his eyes. “Take me to the bar I usually go to.”
The driver dropped Shi Yu off at the bar, watched him enter the bar, and then took out his phone to text someone.
Back at the Shi mansion, Wang Ma saw the text on her phone and immediately went to find Jiang Meijiao.
“Madam, the driver says the young master went to the bar. You can relax now—he hasn’t found anything. If he had, he wouldn’t be in the mood to party.”
Jiang Meijiao, who was busy arranging flowers, smiled happily at what Wang Ma said. “Don’t let that kid's act fool you. Just say a few sweet things, and he’ll come running without a second thought.”
——
After waiting at the bar entrance for a while and not seeing Shi Yu come out, the driver drove off feeling relieved.
As soon as he drove away, the two bouncers at the bar glanced at each other. One of them immediately hurried inside the bar.
Not long after, Shi Yu, now in a change of clothes, came out through the back door of the bar, with a bartender leading him, and climbed into a beat-up old car.
Once inside, Shi Yu instructed the bartender, “Let me know the second anything happens.”
The bartender replied, “Got it, boss.”
