Chapter 15 Liu Zhixin’s Hidden Secret
byChapter 15: Liu Zhixin's Hidden Secret
Liu Zhixin's bank account indeed received a large sum of money every year. And the money was sent by Uncle Wu's son.
On the day Shi Yu obtained Liu Zhixin's information, the second payment of the year had just been deposited into that account.
The account, which used to get a single yearly payment, now got two this year.
Based on Liu Zhixin's file, he had lost everything in stock trading, and his mistress was clamoring for a new house. No wonder he needed money twice this year.
What surprised Shi Yu the most was that Liu Zhixin's mistress, Qian Lina, turned out to be Uncle Wu's distant niece.
Jeez. Not only did they keep him as an ATM, but they also assigned a babysitter to watch him.
This distant niece's appearance made Shi Yu realize things were more complicated than they seemed.
Shi Yu wanted Liu Zhixin's secret, and Luo Su wanted revenge on her husband. They were on the same page.
Shi Yu first had someone tip off Liu Zhixin that Qian Lina was Uncle Wu's plant.
As expected, upon learning that the woman he cherished most had suddenly become his spy, Liu Zhixin fell into panic.
After discovering that Qian Lina was following Luo Su with a fake account, Shi Yu deliberately had Luo Su share her daily life with her husband on Moments.
Of course, these posts were made with Liu Zhixin blocked.
When Qian Lina saw Liu Zhixin's posts on Moments, she kept picking fights with him.
Liu Zhixin heard Qian Lina talk about the content of Luo Su's Moments. Without having seen those posts himself, he became convinced that Qian Lina was spying on him.
Luo Su, using the pretext of wanting her son to study abroad, constantly planted the idea of moving abroad in Liu Zhixin's mind.
To escape Qian Lina's surveillance, and with Luo Su's hints, Liu Zhixin started thinking about getting out of the country.
Shi Yu hadn't expected Qian Lina to get pregnant.
After getting pregnant, Qian Lina put even more pressure on Liu Zhixin, to the point where he basically avoided her.
Seeing that the time was right, Shi Yu had Luo Su post another Moment: one about how stressed she was that her husband wanted to emigrate, and she wasn't sure if she should go with him.
When Qian Lina saw this post, she instinctively assumed Liu Zhixin was trying to run away from her, which would only make her cause even more of a scene.
Shi Yu's original plan was to let them tear each other apart. Ideally, Qian Lina would ruin Liu Zhixin's reputation so badly that everyone would hate him.
In that scenario, Liu Zhixin would have to pull out the leverage he'd been hiding and demand the person he was blackmailing clean up his mess.
But Shi Yu never expected Qian Lina to actually go and kill him, which cut off all his subsequent plans.
The moment he saw Liu Zhixin's corpse, Shi Yu wondered: Did Qian Lina really kill him? Or was it someone else pulling the strings? And if it was someone else, could it be Shi Ciye? After all, only a member of the Shi family could order Uncle Wu around.
These mysteries tangled together, making Shi Yu even more determined to figure things out.
He had thought about having Uncle Wu tailed, but Uncle Wu seemed to have only messed up that one time Liu Zhixin came; the rest of the time, he just stayed put in the Shi mansion.
Even the money transfers were handled by his son outside.
But his son did nothing else besides the annual transfer.
After Liu Zhixin's death, Luo Su inherited all of his assets. She opened Liu Zhixin's safe, retrieved the old laptop, and handed it to Shi Yu.
When Shi Yu got the laptop, he found it was an old model—completely busted, wouldn't even turn on.
He sent it for repair, and the technician discovered that although the laptop was damaged, the hard drive was brand new. It had obviously been swapped out.
After extracting the data from the hard drive, he found it contained pictures of a woman.
And there was no one else in the pictures.
Could it really be that Qian Lina accidentally killed Liu Zhixin, and he had just been overthinking the whole thing?
But Liu Zhixin was already dead, and the story behind the photos was a dead end. Shi Yu had people investigate the woman in the photos, but so far, nothing came up.
So when Jiang Ji appeared before him, a voice in his head told him that Jiang Ji must know what those photos meant.
—
“…You guided me to investigate Liu Zhixin because you wanted me to know about those photos, didn’t you? So, what now?” Shi Yu stared intently at Jiang Ji.
Jiang Ji looked at Shi Yu. “Young Master, do you think your father could kill someone?”
Shi Yu: “You’re saying that Liu Zhixin was killed by the old man.” He smirked. “It’s not that I don’t believe it, but I don’t think that if he really had a problem with Liu Zhixin, he would have let him live this long.
Jiang Ji, don’t underestimate an old man who’s been playing the business game for decades. If he gets ruthless, he'd even stab his own son.
In Liu Zhixin’s case, I’ve always suspected the old man, but I always find it hard to believe it was him. Because the old man wouldn't sit on a piece of leverage for decades.”
Jiang Ji frowned, as if confirming something.
Then he agreed with Shi Yu’s conclusion: “Your argument makes sense.”
Shi Yu rolled his eyes in exasperation. “I’m being straight with you, and you're playing mind games with me.”
Jiang Ji: “As far as I know, the evidence Liu Zhixin had was probably proof that your father raped a female employee.”
Shi Yu’s eyes widened instantly. “Jiang Ji, do you know what you’re saying?”
Jiang Ji: “Twenty-six years ago, your father was not yet the richest man in Linhai. Liu Zhixin had just become your father’s assistant.
But that year, there was a rape case involving intoxication in Linhai, and the main culprit was your father.
Your father was quite well-known locally at the time, so the rape case caused a huge stir.
But your father claimed it was a false accusation. Liu Zhixin testified in court, saying your father was with him that night.
Thus, the rape case was swept under the rug. Liu Zhixin testified for your father, he was transferred to a branch company.
Later, I heard that the raped female subordinate became pregnant. She insisted on having the child and doing a paternity test to prove your father had raped her.
But after claiming she was pregnant, that female subordinate mysteriously disappeared.
Your father used his connections to bury all of this, but Liu Zhixin, as your father’s assistant back then, probably kept some evidence.
The photos you found are probably of that female employee.
All these years, Liu Zhixin must have been blackmailing your father with the false testimony he provided.”
Shi Yu stared at Jiang Ji. “Jiang Ji, what exactly are you after by coming into the Shi family?”
Seeing the look on Shi Yu’s face, Jiang Ji knew he was jumping to conclusions. “Don’t misunderstand. I’m not that female employee’s kid.” Shi Yu’s face darkened. “From the beginning, you guided me to investigate Liu Zhixin. What did you want to see? Did you want to see me take those photos and confront Shi Ciye about whether he had another bastard out there?”
Or do you want to see me stir things up, disrupt the Shi family, so you can fish in troubled waters.
I was thinking, you chose me to investigate Liu Zhixin. You must have thought I was that kind of foolish son. Upon learning the so-called truth, I would fear that an illegitimate child from outside would come back to claim a share of the inheritance, and then make a big scene, recklessly exposing the matter.
Jiang Ji did not speak.
Shi Yu sneered, "Unfortunately, I've always been a rebel. The more someone wants me to do something, the more I'll resist doing it. You want me to expose this so that thousands will condemn my father. Sorry to disappoint you. There's no way I'm going to believe your one-sided story."
As he said this, he jabbed his cane hard into the car behind Jiang Ji. "Jiang Ji, don't touch the Shi family. I want a complete Shi family, not a broken one. I'm not a junk collector."
Jiang Ji looked at the small dent on the car door, curled his lip. "I really did choose the wrong person..."
