As they parted, both of them couldn't help but pant slightly, their foreheads touching. Chu Xu couldn't help but laugh.
"Is this not a dream?"
Such words actually came out of his mouth.
Gao Wenyan smiled at him and said, "Shall we do it again?"
"Sure."
Just as Chu Xu was about to lower his head, she laughed and pushed him away.
"How can the lady go back on her word?"
She had kissed him with all her courage just now, but now, feeling his warm breath on her ear, Gao Wenyan felt belatedly embarrassed.
Chu Xu took her hand gently, not taking advantage of her, merely holding it softly.
His chest felt as if something was blocking it, soft and unreal.
He asked in a low voice, "Why did you ask me to see Princess Wen An earlier? What does the lady mean by that?"
Only when her heartbeat finally slowed down did Gao Wenyan dare to look up at him.
"Because I don't want anyone else to get ahead of me."
This was the truth.
Gao Wenyan thought that if Chu Xu and Princess Wen An fell in love over time, she would be left with nothing.
So, while Chu Xu still liked her, she decided to act first.
That's what she thought.
However, after hearing this, Chu Xu only smiled lightly, unsure whether he believed her or not.
"You can't take her away."
Chu Xu was genuinely delighted; his usually calm eyes sparkled brightly, reflecting her fair face, and only her.
Taking Gao Wenyan's hand, Chu Xu led her step by step back.
"Is your hand alright?"
Chu Xu half-smiled, "The lady is a bit late in showing concern."
"Didn't Princess Wen An already come to check on you?"
Her fingers were gently pinched, and Chu Xu said, "Until the lady comes, even if the Emperor himself arrives, I won't feel better."
"So, are you feeling better now?"
"Of course."
Gao Wenyan couldn't help but laugh at him, "The Chancellor has always been good with words."
"You didn't call me that before."
Gao Wenyan, feeling indignant, pointed out that he also called her "lady."
"Oh?"
Chu Xu stopped, turned to look at her, his lips filled with a gentle smile.
"Then I won't call you that anymore."
When they sat down, Chu Xu's call of "Yan'er" made Gao Wenyan blush unexpectedly.
Just as she was about to ask him to brew tea, she realized that all the tea utensils were gone, including the jar of tea leaves she had given him.
Gao Wenyan couldn't help but frown.
Chu Xu couldn't help but laugh, "You don't even like tea, yet you have so many requests."
"What else then?"
Gao Wenyan looked up at him, feeling quite pleased.
Outside, it was a gloomy rainy day, but Chu Xu felt there was no better weather than this.
Behind her was a dark sky, and the damp air blew through the window, ruffling her hair.
Chu Xu couldn't resist getting up and giving her a light kiss on the corner of her lips, very gently, like a fleeting touch, but it felt like a feather brushing against his heart, making it itch.
Reaching out to caress Gao Wenyan's face, he chuckled, "I'll brew tea for you."
He called someone, and soon someone knocked on the door to deliver the tea utensils.
When Gao Wenyan was around, this pavilion was usually off-limits to almost everyone, even the old servant.
The old servant, seeing Chu Xu's usual gloom lifted and even smiling as he took the tray, found it strange.
It had only been put away a few days ago, why bring it out again?
"You may leave."
Even his tone was much gentler.
The old servant did not dare to speculate further and could only bow his head. "Yes."
Chu Xu, as usual, chose a new tea that she had never tasted before and brewed it for her.
"Give it a try."
Gao Wenyan, in a rare mood, mimicked his actions, first smelling the tea and then taking a small sip.
She asked, "Since you don't particularly enjoy tea, why do you always brew it for me?"
Chu Xu replied that it was merely a small game he played for his own amusement.
From the start, he noticed that Gao Wenyan had little interest in tea, drinking it as if it were water.
So he wondered if there might be a tea that could capture Gao Wenyan's attention and make it unforgettable for her?
Over time, this became something of a challenge for him—to find new teas for her and brew them for her.
Later on, Chu Xu harbored some private intentions, though he did not share these with Gao Wenyan.
He had also thought that if one day Gao Wenyan found an unforgettable tea, she might think of him every time she drank it.
Gao Wenyan put down her teacup with a smile and asked, "Do you know how to make a tea unforgettable for me?"
"Very simple."
She said, "Just brew the same tea for me every time."
