Chapter 121: It’s Rare for You to Visit
by 一纸半Chapter 121: It's Rare for You to Visit
Back at the government residence, Chu Xu led Gao Wenyan straight to the study, with Zhiyan following behind, his face darkening repeatedly.
Although Gao Wenyan could not see clearly through her veil, she could still sense the displeasure emanating from behind her.
She tugged at Chu Xu's sleeve and smiled. "If you don't go rest soon, Zhiyan will devour me."
Chu Xu turned around and glared at Zhiyan, who only looked even more grim.
He sighed, "There's nothing I can do; they always act like this when it comes to my health issues."
So there's no blaming them.
Once inside the study, she said slowly, "Don't worry, it's just lunch with him."
"Even if you didn't say so, I would still send him to rest after the meal."
Zhiyan's expression finally eased slightly as he turned to check on the preparations in the kitchen.
Ever since Chu Xu's severe injury, Zhiyan had stopped letting anyone else handle his daily meals. Each dish was strictly controlled, and for a while, Chu Xu hadn't seen a single meat dish.
Chu Xu complained, "It's rare for you to visit."
"Nonsense."
Clearly, she came every few days, yet he made it sound so infrequent.
As the dishes were brought out one by one, Gao Wenyan fell silent.
This really seemed too austere.
Chu Xu shrugged nonchalantly and grinned, "Please, help yourself."
Gao Wenyan picked up a piece of vegetarian dish. Though the flavor was mild, it was still delicious.
"Zhiyan is very meticulous."
"Yes, they've always been like that."
During the meal, Zhihang brought over a bowl of medicine, insisting that Gao Wenyan ensure Chu Xu finished it all.
No wonder she hadn't seen Zhihang since entering the residence; he had been preparing the medicine.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure he doesn't leave a drop."
Only then did Zhihang leave, reassured.
Gao Wenyan laughed. "It seems you have quite a hard time taking your medicine."
He frowned, looking at the medicine with disdain. "That stuff is truly awful."
Sure enough, whenever it was time for medicine, Chu Xu became particularly reluctant.
Gao Wenyan coaxed him into drinking the entire dose.
With important matters to report, Zhiyan and Zhihang stood guard outside, overhearing the whole process.
Zhihang sighed, "Why does it feel like the lady makes it harder for the master to take his medicine?"
"If Xiao Wan were here, you'd be even more fussy."
That comment left Zhihang speechless.
After handling a few official matters, Chu Xu was promptly sent to rest by the three of them.
Gao Wenyan stopped outside his bedroom, adhering to her last bit of propriety regarding gender boundaries.
Seeing the fatigue on his pale face, Gao Wenyan couldn't help but remind him, "Rest well."
"Yes, you should go back. I'll have Zhiyan open the door for you."
If she stayed, Chu Xu wouldn't be able to rest properly.
Seeing that he seemed in good spirits and had Zhiyan watching over him, Gao Wenyan felt somewhat relieved.
What Gao Wenyan didn't know was that as soon as she left, Chu Xu couldn't hold back any longer and vomited blood all over the floor.
Zhiyan had just returned from seeing Gao Wenyan off when he saw Zhihang rushing with an urgent look on his face. He knew something was wrong.
He ran to Chu Xu's room and upon seeing the blood-stained floor, his legs gave way, and he collapsed to the ground.
"Master!"
Stumbling to the bedside, he found Chu Xu already unconscious.
How could this happen?
He had taken his medicine; why had it worsened?
Every moment before the doctor arrived felt unbearably long, as if he were being roasted alive.
Zhiyan paced back and forth in the room, unsure what else to do besides wait.
When someone reported that Chu Ying had arrived, Zhiyan snapped out of his daze and regained some composure.
Yes, he couldn't panic.
He immediately arranged to seal off the news, ensuring that even within the government residence, not a word would leak out.
And Chu Xu did not want Chu Ying to worry, so he sent her back as well.
Everyone only knew that the Prime Minister was tired and was resting.
