Chapter 151: The Original Heroine Shows Up!
by 梅川裤子Chapter 151: The Original Heroine Shows Up!
Jiang Xingliu, the "short special ops team leader who couldn’t even climb into the hovercar" as Jiang Huizhou had described, watched the receding hovercar, brushed the footprints off his clothes, clenched his teeth, and hopped onto the second hovercar.
He set the destination to the lab address they’d been given.
Shen Zhixue was likely heading there too.
The trip to the lab wasn’t exactly quick. Jiang Xingliu slept in the car and finally arrived. He hopped off and spotted Shen Zhixue and Jiang Huizhou walking ahead together.
Jiang Huizhou looked like he wanted to hold Shen Zhixue’s hand but backed off after a sharp glance, so he obediently put his hands behind his back.
Jiang Xingliu narrowed his eyes.
He crept up behind Jiang Huizhou and, without warning, launched a flying kick!
Jiang Huizhou swiftly dodged, turned around, and sneered when he saw Jiang Xingliu: "You punk."
Seeing that the first kick didn’t land, Jiang Xingliu attempted a second one, but Jiang Huizhou unceremoniously grabbed his calf: "Where are you kicking? Trying to steal my inheritance, huh?"
Jiang Xingliu growled, "Who cares about your crappy money?"
He had spent a considerable amount of time in the military academy. Though young, he trained as hard as an adult Alpha. Jiang Huizhou nearly toppled over.
As the two were about to start a fight, Shen Zhixue quickly intervened: "Jiang Huizhou! Why are you messing with a kid?!"
Jiang Xingliu glanced at Shen Zhixue, pursed his lips, and stopped attacking. He shuffled over to Shen Zhixue, looking pitiful, grabbed his sleeve, and said, "He kicked me."
Jiang Huizhou looked at the footprints all over his body and gritted his teeth with a smile: "Who kicked who?"
"When we were getting on the hovercar, you kicked me out," Jiang Xingliu lowered his head: "Zhi Zhi, I’m really sorry."
Shen Zhixue’s shout, though it seemed to side with Jiang Xingliu, actually saved Jiang Huizhou.
If the fight had continued, Jiang Huizhou might’ve been pummeled by Jiang Xingliu.
Feeling somewhat guilty, Shen Zhixue glared at Jiang Huizhou and said coldly, "Can you quit acting like a kid? Did your brain fry in that medical pod? What’s wrong with you, always picking on Jiang Xingliu? How old are you? Got no shame?"
Jiang Huizhou didn’t dare to speak, obediently taking the scolding. He glanced coldly at Jiang Xingliu, narrowed his eyes, and smiled: "I already said it wasn’t on purpose. I slipped."
"You’re a real slippery one," Jiang Xingliu said meaningfully: "Then I slipped too."
The two shared a menacing grin and followed Shen Zhixue into the laboratory.
Shen Zhixue felt a headache coming on.
In the original story, the big and small villains weren’t so confrontational!
This was getting unbearable!
Shen Zhixue gave Jiang Huizhou a look, and he quickly caught up, walking beside him: "What?"
"Stop bullying Jiang Xingliu. He’s just a kid; he hasn’t done anything wrong," Shen Zhixue softened his tone, trying to mediate their relationship: "If you keep targeting him, he might yank your oxygen tube when he’s older."
"He doesn’t need to grow up; he dares to do it now," Jiang Huizhou joked: "Didn’t he have someone inject sleeping drugs into my medical pod?"
Shen Zhixue was taken aback: "You knew? I thought you didn’t."
"Actually, I could hear the commotion outside while I was lying inside," Jiang Huizhou said calmly.
"Is that why you hate him?" Shen Zhixue thought for a moment, trying to mediate. "Let’s talk about this later. I can make him apologize to you, and he can apologize in any way you want. He’s just a kid; he doesn’t know any better. He needs adults to guide him slowly."
"No, if it were me, I’d do the same," Jiang Huizhou shrugged indifferently. "It’s smart to stop the enemy before they get stronger."
Shen Zhixue covered his forehead. "You’re not enemies, you know."
"I don’t hate him because of this," Jiang Huizhou glanced back. "He’s just like me."
Shen Zhixue didn’t react immediately. "Brothers can be alike, that’s normal."
"I mean, when he grows up, he’ll become a second version of me. The world doesn’t need another me," Jiang Huizhou said softly. "Seeing him is like seeing my younger self. To you, he’s selfish, obsessive, cold, and crazy. There are too many unpredictable elements in his personality."
Shen Zhixue opened his mouth. "But that’s no excuse to keep picking on him."
"Just think of me as crazy," Jiang Huizhou put away his serious expression and switched to another demeanor. "If I’m not so sharp, maybe you’d like me more."
Shen Zhixue looked at him in surprise. "Where did you get such a crazy idea?"
"When I was acting dumb before," Jiang Huizhou thought for a moment. "I thought you kind of liked it. And I noticed you seem to like people who aren’t so smart, like Wan Chenghan."
Shen Zhixue was speechless. "Why do you keep bringing up Wan Chenghan?"
"Because if you’d met him first, you’d have picked him," Jiang Huizhou said matter-of-factly. "So I have to try to get closer to him. Even though he looks pretty dumb when he’s clueless, if I play my cards right, you’ll like me."
Shen Zhixue gave him a half-smile. "What makes you so sure?"
"I’m better-looking than him. In a head-to-head, I’m way better-looking than him. Smart people know who to pick."
Shen Zhixue was both amused and exasperated. "Let’s get moving."
At the lab door, Shen Zhixue entered the password and was about to push the door open when Jiang Huizhou stopped him. "Hold on."
Shen Zhixue paused. "What is it?"
Jiang Huizhou glanced at Jiang Xingliu. "You go ahead."
Jiang Xingliu sneered. "Why me?"
"We can’t send Zhi Zhi in first, right?"
"Why can’t it be you?"
"Because you’re the one trained in the military academy, not me."
Shen Zhixue had a splitting headache. "Don’t be so paranoid. It’s just a lab; what danger could there be? Stop arguing, I’ll go in first."
With that, he entered the password and pushed the door open.
In an instant, a cold glint flashed. Shen Zhixue dodged, and the dagger missed, only to swing up again!
Jiang Xingliu kicked out, and the arm holding the dagger instantly lost strength, the dagger clattering to the ground.
Shen Zhixue took a deep breath.
Fortunately, even though he had said there was no danger, he had instinctively remained cautious when opening the door. Otherwise, he might not have been able to dodge that strike.
A girl’s sharp scream rang out.
Jiang Huizhou stepped forward and, together with Jiang Xingliu, knocked the girl unconscious.
"Are you okay?" Jiang Huizhou took Shen Zhixue's hand and looked it over carefully. "I said Jiang Xingliu should have gone first."
Shen Zhixue shook his head. "I’m fine. Good thing it wasn’t Jiang Xingliu who went first."
Jiang Xingliu looked down at the girl on the ground.
This must be the ‘daughter’ he was talking about.
Jiang Xingliu frowned at her unconscious face.
Shen Zhixue noticed the change in his expression and quickly asked, "You hurt?"
"No," Jiang Xingliu shook his head. "I don’t know why, but something feels off when I look at her..."
For a second, he even thought about picking her up off the ground.
