Chapter 16
byChapter 16
The 14th Prince's Consort stepped out of the inner room, summoned the maid attending Wei Yun, told her to look after Wei Yun, and then left with the others.
The 14th Prince had Wei Cang accompany Shen Weiqing and his siblings as they walked ahead, while he supported his wife and walked slowly behind.
He put his arm around his wife's shoulders and said in a low voice, "Wei Er, no matter what is between you and Wei Yun, I will never forgive anyone who attempts to harm my wife and child, and I will not allow her to appear before me again in the future."
The 14th Prince's Consort nodded, "I know, and things between us will never be the same. Though a villain orchestrated this, it doesn’t justify her harming me."
"I always treated her like a younger sister, but at the moment of life and death, she chose to save Cang'er and her concubine instead of me, her elder sister, and I can't accept that."
This knot in her heart may never unravel in this lifetime.
The 14th Prince looked at his wife puzzled, "Then why did you say that?"
The 14th Prince's Consort sighed, "I just noticed she woke up, and I was afraid she might try to kill herself again, so I said that."
The 14th Prince snorted coldly, "If she dies, it’s on her."
The 14th Prince's Consort said, "If she dies, this could blow up, and who knows how it could be used against us."
"Besides, she’s just a teenager, and she used to be very considerate. We’ve been like sisters for years, and I still don’t want her to die like this."
The 14th Prince squeezed his wife's shoulder, "Wei Er, you’re too soft-hearted."
The 14th Prince's Consort patted her husband's hand, "Your Highness, don’t worry, I won’t let her come to our residence anymore. After this is over, I’ll have my mother arrange a marriage for her far away and have her married off."
The 14th Prince's expression softened, "Then you shouldn’t be crying over her."
The 14th Prince's Consort said, "I’m not crying for her, it’s just..."
The 14th Prince waited for a while, and seeing that his wife didn’t continue, he knew she was upset, so he changed the subject, "Wei Er, why do you think Wei Yun lied earlier, saying she did it to become my second wife, and thus harmed you?"
The 14th Prince's Consort thought for a moment and guessed, "When the plot failed and harming me was impossible, she feared the mastermind would use Cang'er and Concubine Sun against her, so she simply lied, attributing the matter to her greed. Knowing you, you’d likely not spare her."
"In this way, she sacrificed herself to explain things to us, and also to give that person an explanation, possibly saving Cang'er and Concubine Sun."
"Of course, this is just my speculation. Why Wei Yun lied like that, we would have to ask her to know."
The 14th Prince said, "Whatever she was thinking, Wei Er, you must never see her again."
The 14th Prince's Consort did not respond, lost in thought.
The 14th Prince then conceded, "If you really want to see her, it’s fine, but you must have the maids and servants with you, and not see her alone."
"I’m not thinking about whether to see her or not," the 14th Prince's Consort shook her head, "I’m thinking, could this be targeting Your Highness?"
"Since someone is secretly plotting for the throne, and Your Highness is also a prince, and the Emperor is very fond of you."
Seeing his wife bring this up again, the 14th Prince still felt it was unlikely, "We’ve discussed this before, I’m an idle prince without any official duties or military power, why would anyone go to such lengths against me."
The 14th Prince's Consort said, "I don’t know, I just feel uneasy."
The 14th Prince originally thought this matter had nothing to do with him, but seeing his wife so concerned, he also became unsure, "Don’t worry, even if it is aimed at me, we still have my elder brother and the eighth brother, I don’t see how anyone could touch me."
After saying this, both of them were startled and said in unison, "Could it be aimed at the eighth brother?"
