Chapter 91 Evil Dragon and the Princess
by 李怀沙Chapter 91: Evil Dragon and the Princess
The Seventh Knights made a full retreat, but Meng Shu couldn't leave. He had to find a way to slay this evil dragon and get the affection points gift.
Just from seeing half of its head earlier, he was almost overpowered by the dragon's aura.
Ling Qingjue peered into the cave, sensing the immense power within. He offered a plan: "If we can pinpoint the princess's location, I'll use Teleportation Magic to send her away, then raze this entire mountain."
Meng Shu held the Cat Sword. "You're planning to step in yourself?"
"Only if you can't handle it," Ling Qingjue replied.
If Meng Shu had spent the past three months leveling up with the Cat Sword, he might have stood a chance against this dragon.
But he'd been an idiot, leaving the Cat Sword to gather dust in storage.
Now the gap between him and Moon-Eater Azkara was vast—like night and day. A single sneeze from the dragon could send him flying a hundred thousand miles.
Ling Qingjue found it more and more strange. Wasn't it Meng Shu who was supposed to be pursuing him? Why did he have to do the work to get the affection gift himself?
Was he supposed to woo himself?
Shouldn't have made the affection gift so hard to get.
"I can take it on one-on-one. I'm confident I'd win, but this entire mountain range would be destroyed." Ling Qingjue spoke calmly. "Our goal is to rescue the princess and, incidentally, loot its treasure hoard. I won't intervene unless absolutely necessary."
Looting the dragon's treasure hoard is your real goal, isn't it!
Rescuing the princess is just a side quest!
The dragon circled the cave entrance once, found no enemies, lowered its guard, and turned back inside.
Meng Shu noticed many animals living in the mountains and hesitated. "If you act, all these animals will die..."
"Mm." Ling Qingjue nodded indifferently. "Even a simple Fireball would be enough to annihilate this place."
Meng Shu bit his lip, his heart plummeted. His voice grew weak, "Then... don't act yet. Let me try to defeat it first..."
"You don't have the strength."
"Let me try, just try."
Ling Qingjue sighed and reached out to ruffle his hair. Bending down to meet his eyes, he said, "Once we confirm the princess's location, leave the rest to me."
He flicked Meng Shu's forehead. "Don't be so scared. I won't destroy this place... Meng Shu, I'm not as bad as you think."
"It's not that I think you're bad!" Meng Shu covered his forehead dramatically, as if it really hurt, and quickly explained, "I just... I think the animals here can talk—it's amazing. I don't want them all to die for nothing."
"Mm."
Meng Shu took a deep breath, then wrapped his arms around Ling Qingjue's waist, burying his face in his chest. "I trust you!"
"...Sweet talker."
Though annoyed, he still had to help rescue the princess.
So annoying!
If not for the affection points, he wouldn't be helping at all!
Meng Shu grabbed his wrist and shook it, blinking pleadingly, bright and lively. "I know you're amazing. You must have a way."
He snorted coldly again.
In truth, Ling Qingjue didn't even consider this dragon a threat. He had many methods to defeat it without using Attack Magic.
He just wanted to tease Meng Shu.
But regardless, they had to rescue the princess first.
Meng Shu continued, "Let's sneak in now and find the princess's location. Once she's sent away, we can fight the dragon without worrying about her."
"Can you sneak in?"
Meng Shu, who basically just coasts along, patted his chest and said, "With you here, no surprises."
He tilted his head, his dark eyes with dancing flames. "What, Lord Cat can't do it?"
Ling Qingjue couldn't stand being provoked. He took the bait instantly, his cheeks burning like wildfire. He muttered, "You always know how to hook me."
Meng Shu looked innocent. "I do?"
Ling Qingjue cast a spell—a self-created magic, Shadow Stealth.
Upon use, he could merge into the shadows of any living creature within a ten-mile radius and teleport.
Meng Shu's magic level was too low to use such high-tier magic.
Ling Qingjue awkwardly grabbed his wrist, adding, "It's not that I want to hold your hand—you just can't use magic, and this is the only way to take you with me while hiding."
As he said this, he suddenly pulled Meng Shu's hand, his fingers sliding into Meng Shu's fingers like a slippery eel, interlocking them.
His palm was hot, pressing together tightly. Meng Shu suddenly felt awkward, nervous, at a loss, mostly shy and bashful. He never knew he could blush so easily.
He coughed dryly, his eyes darting around. "Oh, got it. I won't overthink it."
Ling Qingjue tightened his fingers slightly and said in a grumbling voice, "Overthinking's allowed too."
...
Using Shadow Stealth, they hid inside Moon-Eater Azkara's shadow.
They followed the dragon deep into the lair, passing piles of gold and jewels along the way.
Meng Shu clicked his tongue. Just how many treasures had this evil dragon hoarded?
The cave was an endless labyrinth. Moon-Eater Azkara flapped its wings and flew deeper before finally stopping at a wooden door deep inside the cave.
It said to the door, "No one's coming to save you today either."
A girl's voice came from behind the door, soft and slow, like an oriole cooing, "Then I'll wait. Someone will come for me eventually."
The dragon wagged its tail. "A knights' order came today. I chased them off."
No response from inside.
After saying that, the dragon lay down on the spot, curling its tail into a tight coil, guarding the door.
The two hidden in the shadow exchanged a look.
Found it!
The princess was behind this door!
