Chapter 87 Save the Princess
by 李怀沙Chapter 87 Rescuing the Princess
Meng Shu went to great lengths to persuade Ling Qingjue, that walking disaster, to go home.
Ling Qingjue sulked and pouted every which way and even refused to eat out of spite, making it clear he wouldn't be easily won over.
But he caved after just a day and a half.
Meanwhile, Meng Shu had to keep him happy while squeezing in time for knight training.
The Knights didn't just do daily missions—they also had to show up at the academy for skill training.
And since Ling Qingjue had to guard Crescent Bay and refused to leave Meng Shu, his clone became the workhorse, getting exploited day in and day out.
Guarding Crescent Bay required a vast amount of magical power to suppress the ancient beast lurking beneath.
The clone couldn't handle it and was on the verge of death within days.
When they returned home, the clone clung to Meng Shu's calf, refusing to let go, crying and throwing a fit, 'Don't leave me here all alone!'
For the peace of Crescent Bay, Meng Shu finally struck a deal: Ling Qingjue would teleport him back and forth, and he'd come home on time every day, ensuring Ling Qingjue wouldn't go hungry.
Three months went by like this, with Meng Shu traveling back and forth between the Knights and Crescent Bay every day, diligently completing various tasks.
The Knights were responsible for exterminating the demon beasts around the Kingdom, but Meng Shu couldn't bring himself to use the Cat Sword, so he treasured it and tucked it away.
The Cat Sword itself had low stats and no additional skills, making it tough to handle high-level monsters.
Worried that the Cat Sword might break, Meng Shu stored it away and usually used another sword to fight monsters. That sword gave 20 attack power, had a fire enchantment, and cost three hundred thousand a pop.
Even if it broke, he could afford to replace it.
When spring came, the dragon that had been sleeping in the valley woke up too.
The first thing it did after waking up was to come to the Klotant Kingdom and snatch the beautiful princess.
So the Seventh Knights got a mission: head to Evil Dragon Valley and save the princess.
As a knight of the Seventh Knights, Meng Shu also had to join the rescue mission, but since he was low-leveled, he was stuck with grunt work.
He went home and told Ling Qingjue about it, and Ling Qingjue perked up. 'That dragon's probably above tenth-tier. I doubt the Knights have what it takes to beat it.'
'Yeah, I heard it's called Moon Eater Azkara.'
Hearing that, Ling Qingjue raised an eyebrow in recognition. 'So it's that dragon.'
Meng Shu asked, 'You've heard of it?'
Ling Qingjue propped his chin on his hand and said with a grin, 'My affection gift needs the reverse scale on its neck.'
Meng Shu said, '...You're not actually expecting me to kill it, are you?'
Ling Qingjue continued to smile and said, 'Very clever.' '...'
Meng Shu was perpetually on the edge of a speechless breakdown. 'Well, I heard that dragon's stats have already surpassed 1,000 points, and I... only have 100 points.'
'You have the Cat Sword.' Ling Qingjue's smile didn't fade, his deep green eyes like an emerald. 'You can defeat it.'
Meng Shu didn't want to complain in front of him about the Cat Sword's low stats, so he lowered his head in distress, not daring to meet his eyes.
Could it be that you plan to defeat the Evil Dragon with the power of love?
That's so cringe!
“The Cat Sword... is a gift from you, so it’s special, um...” Meng Shu scrambled for an excuse. “How could I use the Cat Sword to fight the Evil Dragon?”
Ling Qingjue was puzzled. “Isn’t the Cat Sword just a sword? If you don’t use it to fight monsters, what are you going to do with it?”
But this sword of yours only has 1 point of attack power!
Meng Shu grew even more flustered, stammering, “The Cat Sword... its stats... are they, um, a little on the low side?”
But Ling Qingjue frowned, puzzled. “How could the Cat Sword’s stats be low? Logically, your attack power should have already broken through a thousand points by now.”
Scared of making him angry, Meng Shu muttered weakly, “The Cat Sword only adds 1 point of attack power.”
“Its initial stat is only 1 point—haven’t you used it to fight monsters at all?” Ling Qingjue was indeed angry. He suddenly leaned in, pinched Meng Shu’s chin with one hand, and forced him to meet his gaze. “Why haven’t you used it?”
His tone was cold, and Meng Shu’s Adam’s apple bobbed nervously, his head spinning. “Because... because you gave it to me, and I was afraid it would break.”
“The Cat Sword was made with Silver Ore, thirty-two types of precious gems, and my blood mixed in, and you think it’ll break?”
Meng Shu really hadn’t realized the Cat Sword was so special; it just looked like an ordinary sword.
A surge of inexplicable anger rose in Ling Qingjue. “For three whole months, you haven’t used it even once?”
Meng Shu felt incredibly guilty. He looked down, not daring to meet Ling Qingjue’s eyes.
But Ling Qingjue still held his chin, forcing him to look up. “Speak!”
“No...”
He was truly terrified that the Cat Sword would break!
“Didn’t you ever think something was off?” Ling Qingjue was so angry he could pass out. “Did you really think I would give you a sword with only 1 point of attack power?”
Meng Shu’s back pressed against the sofa. Ling Qingjue was almost straddling him, pressing down so he couldn’t push back.
He pleaded pitifully, “Sorry, okay? I know I was wrong.”
Ling Qingjue squinted. “You only know how to admit fault. You never learn from getting punished.”
“I won’t do it again.” Meng Shu said the same old thing, always uttering the same few lines. “I’ll ask you first next time.”
Ling Qingjue knew he wasn’t sincere and had no way to deal with him.
Meng Shu said again, “You’re pinching me—it hurts a bit. Can you let go?”
Ling Qingjue released his hand and sat aside, sulking. “It would serve you right if it hurt you to death.”
“Don’t be mad.” Meng Shu shamelessly moved closer to him. “I won’t do it again.”
“You say that every time.” Ling Qingjue retorted irritably. “Every time you mess up, all foolish and stupid.”
Aren't 'foolish' and 'stupid' the same thing?
Double positive means negative—wait, that’s not right! So he must have meant I’m very smart!
It must be like that!
Meng Shu cheered himself up and flashed a placating smile. "Really won't do it again, don't be mad, okay?"
Ling Qingjue's profile was cold and delicate, with high cheekbones and sharp features.
It should have been the frostiest expression.
But the moment Meng Shu spoke, his expression softened a fraction.
Gradually, the frost began to thaw, and he put on a mock fierce look. "You're really annoying."
Meng Shu smiled, leaning forward a little, catching Ling Qingjue’s clean, crisp scent—cold at first, then warming as it hit his nostrils.
He was kind of a pest.
Luckily, Ling Qingjue actually liked him pestering him.
