Chapter 183: Protect the Hero
by 李怀沙Chapter 183 Protecting the Brave
Meng Shu couldn't help but laugh at the sight of him, pulled him out of his embrace, and leaned down to ask, "You missed me that much?"
Xu Linzhou smiled sheepishly, crossed his arms and said, "Ahem, felt like you were gone forever. Maybe I'm just imagining things."
"It really has been a while," Jia Zhao shrugged. "Alright, enough chit-chat. Your big bro Mengshu needs your help. Go on, give him a hand."
"What do you want me to do?"
Meng Shu said, "Can you take charge? The battlefield's a mess—we need someone to lead."
Xu Linzhou looked totally lost. "Me? You want me to boss them around?"
"Just drop your parents' names. Everyone knows who they are. Of course, you don't have to do the actual commanding—we just need someone with some clout."
Hearing he had clout, Xu Linzhou puffed up like a peacock. "Fine! I'll help you out, but only because I'm nice!"
Jia Zhao cast Spirit Transmission on him. "We'll feed you the lines later. You just gotta pass it along."
Xu Linzhou, itching to show off, nodded like crazy and thumped his chest. "Mission guaranteed, boss!"
Sure enough, the moment Xu Linzhou showed his face and revealed his identity, the rowdy crowd quieted down a lot. Out of respect for his folks, they treated him like royalty.
Xu Linzhou said he was there on his parents' behalf, asking all the adventurers to cooperate. A lot of them owed his parents favors and naturally went along with it.
Seeing that, most others fell in line and pulled back from the thick of the fight.
The Knight Order immediately formed a circle, completely surrounding the Boss.
The Boss wasn't scared. Standing in the center of the magic circle, he neither dodged nor retreated, sneering coldly, "Fools."
The Rubik's Cube in his hand spun again, and the freshly laid formation shattered to pieces.
Meng Shu saw that coming. "Get me in there!"
Several mages worked together, pitting Space Magic against Space Magic. In a flash, Meng Shu shot forward, summoning the Cat Sword and getting into attack position.
The Clone looked surprised. "Space Magic?"
He saw Meng Shu's attack couldn't touch him, so he dropped his guard. "Bringing all these people just to get close to me—what's your deal?"
Meng Shu flicked his wrist, and the Cat Sword shot out several sword lights.
The Clone blocked the attack, sounding a bit let down. "Is that all?"
Meng Shu ignored him, quietly calling up the Time Clock, hiding himself in the sword light as he inched closer.
"Sword Light Slash!" Meng Shu suddenly shouted.
Hearing that, the Clone instinctively went to deflect the attack, but Meng Shu had only faked his strike. Hiding behind the sword light, he lunged right at the Clone.
"You—" The Clone had no clue what he was up to and could only redirect the Sword Light Slash away.
The second Meng Shu touched the edge of his robe, he dropped to one knee and shouted, "Long live the Demon King Cat Head! Long live! Long live!"
The Clone was dumbfounded.
The Clone was utterly shocked.
The next second, the Time Clock activated abruptly. The second hand stopped.
The Clone stood frozen in place, unable to move.
Unfortunately, Meng Shu couldn't move either. He wrapped his arms around the Clone, preventing him from stirring, ensuring a guaranteed kill.
Zhang Lin saw this and immediately ordered the Knight Order to launch a full assault. "Kill him with the killing formation!"
Time stood still for the Clone; he couldn't resist at all.
Meng Shu suddenly tugged at his cat tail. "Don't worry, I'm with you. I'll get you out soon."
The killing formation materialized, erupting with a powerful blast of air that sent people outside the formation flying several meters.
The space built by the Rubik's Cube shattered piece by piece.
The system announced: "Attention all adventurers: The second floor of the Demon King's Tower has been breached. All adventurers who participated in the raid are awarded 10 Attack, 10 Defense, 100,000 Gold, and one Level 8 Core."
The explosion was so bright that Zhang Lin's eyes nearly went blind. He squinted, forcing his eyes open. "Meng Shu? Did he make it out?"
Jia Zhao said calmly, "He's probably dead. Let's go find him at the respawn point."
The second floor of the Demon King's Tower was broken. The crowd looked at each other.
"That's it? We beat it?"
"Why didn't that Boss use any skills..."
"I don't know. Weren't we told it was going to be hard?"
"Who was that guy who charged in?"
"Never heard of him. Definitely not a famous adventurer."
Who would have thought that the one to break the Demon King's Tower wasn't some big shot, but a nameless little knight?
Jia Zhao had already recorded everything with the Celestial Book. Soon enough, he would become the first scholar in history to document the whole process of a Brave fighting the Demon King one-on-one!
This would give him a huge advantage in his future campaign to become the Law Agent!
His future was bright!
The more Jia Zhao thought about it, the happier he got. He let out a low laugh, slung his arm around Xu Linzhou's shoulder, and said, "Come on, brother, let's go welcome Meng Shu."
Xu Linzhou knocked his hand away. "Don't touch me, you sly fox!"
Zhang Lin stopped them. "Wait. There's still someone in the center of the formation."
Jia Zhao paused and frowned. "That was the Knight Order's strongest killing blow. Meng Shu can't have survived it. Even that Boss was one-shotted."
The smoke cleared, and a tall, straight figure walked out from the ruins.
His dazzling red hair shone like the radiance of the sun.
Xu Linzhou ran toward him. "Meng Shu! You're alive! How did you do it?!"
Apart from a burned patch on his cloak, Meng Shu was spotless. His arms and legs were intact, and he looked completely unharmed.
He scratched his head and said vaguely, "Right before he died, that Boss suddenly hugged me..."
"Huh?" Xu Linzhou was dumbfounded. "Why did the Boss hug you?"
Meng Shu was too embarrassed to say more. "Nothing much. Maybe I had him under time control."
The truth was that Meng Shu had been holding the clone tightly, intending to die together with it.
Because the five-second freeze was too short, the Knights' attack couldn't instantly kill it.
Meng Shu wanted to use his own body to trap the clone, buying more time for the Knights.
But the five seconds passed in the blink of an eye. Just as the attack was about to land, the clone suddenly grew several times larger, turning into a round black cat. Its tail swept around, curling Meng Shu into its embrace. Its massive body pressed down, trapping him in an airtight embrace.
Before the clone died, Meng Shu heard it speak haltingly—"Pro... tect... the... hero."
In the end, all the damage landed on the clone. When Meng Shu came to his senses, the clone had been shattered into pieces, turning into a single cat hair that fell to the ground and quickly burned to ashes.
The second floor of the Demon King Tower was also declared breached.
