Chapter 119: Villains Die from Talking Too Much
by 李怀沙Chapter 119: Villains Die from Running Their Mouths
The golden light materialized into a human figure and slowly descended to the ground.
Meng Shu immediately recalled where he had seen it—the golden light that had tricked Ling Qingjue into becoming the Demon King during his forty affinity cutscene!
Holding his sword across his chest, Meng Shu went on alert. "What do you want?"
The golden light seemed to just then notice him, letting out a soft sigh. "Oh? You brought someone else? I thought you'd come alone to challenge me, knowing you."
Unable to turn back into human form, Ling Qingjue jumped out of Meng Shu's arms and looked up. "What do you want now, Law?"
The only thing in this world that could suppress Ling Qingjue was the Law.
Ling Qingjue had encountered dungeons that suppressed his power before, but his magic reserves were so huge that trying to suppress him would make the dungeon shatter from his own magic.
But this dungeon actually managed to force him back into his original form.
Only the Law could have that kind of power.
The Law let out a soft chuckle. "Naturally, to crown you. I gave you the strongest power in the world. Why are you hiding out in some small town?"
"The Demon King Tower's barren—can't even get a meal there. You think I'm stupid?" Ling Qingjue sneered. "If being the Demon King was so great, would the Law have to go around tricking little cats all the time?"
The Law sighed. "Why you gotta be so blunt? Can't you just play dumb and go along with it?"
Meng Shu said coldly, "No."
He pointed his sword at the Law, his face stern. "If Kitty doesn't wanna be the Demon King, nobody's gonna force him."
The Law had no face, just a blurry shape. It laughed softly. "You are a Hero summoned from another world, under my protection. You and the Demon King are natural enemies. If you can, I'd prefer you don't get involved. I'll send you out. How's that?"
Meng Shu gripped his sword tightly and said each word with force: "Dream on!"
The Law spread its hands. "No need to say no so fast. The one behind you seems inclined to agree."
Meng Shu spun around, looking down at Ling Qingjue. "I'm not leaving! Don't even think about it!"
He clutched his sword, firm and resolute. "I'm getting you out of here. Don't try to send me away."
"...It's been eight days," Ling Qingjue said, his voice really low. "If this continues, your real-world body might get hurt."
Meng Shu waved it off casually. "I'm still young. Can I really die? I'm only twenty-eight. Even if I lose ten years off my life, I'd still have sixty years left."
He paused, his voice a bit urgent. "I'm not leaving! If you try to send me away, then... then I really won't want you anymore!"
Ling Qingjue's pupils shrank. He swallowed back all the words he was about to say.
"This place only blocks magic. I use physical attacks, so he can't touch me."
Meng Shu slashed out a sword wave, gritting his teeth. "Kitty, trust me."
The Law studied him and laughed softly. "All talk. After all that, is there a single honest word?"
Its voice suddenly went cold. It floated into the air, golden light spreading out.
"Hero, you are a person from another world, summoned by me. I do not wish to be your enemy. I'll give you one last chance: leave now and I'll send you out. Stay, and I'll kill you right here."
Meng Shu raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Try me."
The Law shook its head, a long sword appearing in its hand. "Stubborn to the end."
"Wait—" Ling Qingjue finally spoke, his voice rough. "Meng Shu, go back."
Even he couldn't fight the Law. How could Meng Shu get out of this unscathed?
Best case: Meng Shu leaves safely, while he faces the Law alone. Worst case: him locked away in the Demon King Tower for decades.
Meng Shu looked down. "No."
"If I don't break the seal and become the Demon King, neither of us can get out of here... It's already been eight days." Ling Qingjue's voice got quieter, almost too quiet to hear.
"But being trapped alone in the Demon King Tower for decades is far too lonely." Meng Shu didn't back down. From the second he stepped into this maze, he knew they wouldn't get out safe this time.
He just wanted Ling Qingjue to remain a little cat. There was no need for him to become some Great Demon King, hunted by everyone.
"I don't want you to be so lonely."
He kept going. "I'll be fine. I can come back, you know... You're an animal; the Law doesn't protect you. You need to be safe. As long as you're alive, you can definitely revive me..."
"...What if I can't?" Ling Qingjue's emotions suddenly broke through, his voice trembling slightly. "What if, after becoming the Demon King, I forget you? What if no one defeats me? What if you stay in this world forever and truly die?"
Meng Shu was stunned.
"If you're really gone, what will I do?" Ling Qingjue pressed his cat head against Meng Shu's leg, nuzzling helplessly. "I can wait for you, no matter how long..."
He didn't want to become the Demon King.
But he was even more afraid of losing Meng Shu.
"You go back. After you leave, I'll fight him."
Meng Shu's jaw clenched. "You want to break the seal inside you, become the Demon King, and fight the Law?"
"...It's the only way."
The Law was in no rush. It watched them lazily. "Have you decided? Leave or stay?"
Meng Shu's heart felt stifled. He stopped paying attention to Ling Qingjue, his eyes filled with aggression. "Of course I'm staying to beat your ass."
With that, he gave the Law an international friendly gesture.
Seeing him flip the bird, the Law was visibly stunned. "You, you dare give me the finger?"
Meng Shu raised an eyebrow scornfully. "Huh? Not allowed? I'll do it anyway."
The Law fumed. "I forbid you from giving me the finger!"
Meng Shu grew even more provocative. "So what if I give you the finger? I just can't stand people like you!"
The Law roared, "I am not a person!"
Meng Shu was taken aback.
Well, it really wasn't a person.
Damn! In this world, calling someone "not a person" had zero impact, because the other party might genuinely not be human!
The Law paced in a circle, swallowing its anger. "Hero, according to my script, you and I should not be enemies. You are the champion I chose to defeat the Demon King. You should not be turning your blade on me."
"Why so much nonsense? If you're gonna fight, then fight! What's with all the mumbling?"
"Oh, fine then." The Law, unable to persuade him, spread his arms and sighed regretfully. "It seems we have no choice but to fight."
As the words fell, several magic circles appeared behind the Law, and thousands of golden swords thrust out from them!
—Oracle, Thousand Slaying Swords.
Meng Shu immediately moved in front of Ling Qingjue. Now that Ling Qingjue was just an ordinary cat, he wouldn't last three seconds against such a massive onslaught.
—Knight's Guardian!
This was the core skill of a knight, capable of taking damage for specific targets and forming a defensive shield.
But Meng Shu's base defense was only 20 points, and the shield shattered after only a few seconds!
—Holy Block.
Meng Shu decisively activated his second skill. Behind him, the afterimage of a six-winged angel appeared, its wings enveloping the two of them, creating an absolute defense.
The Law stopped his attack. "Not bad. You've only been in this world for a little over a year, and still you can block my attack. I admit you're a genius. But unfortunately, I've seen many geniuses—and they all call me a genius."
The mask on his face gradually faded, revealing a fully formed face: golden eyes, white hair, holy and untouchable.
"I am the First Agent serving the Law, following its will. I hereby welcome the new Demon King to assume his throne. Anyone who gets in my way dies! Mwahaha—"
Meng Shu had already used Charge to dash in front of him.
His long sword pierced the Law's heart.
Golden blood slowly flowed out.
The Law lowered his head in astonishment.
"What are you jabbering about? I have no clue what you're saying."
Meng Shu thrust the sword in a bit deeper, grinning sinisterly. "Hehe, sneak attack! Don't you know that talking too much gets villains killed?"
The Law grabbed the blade with one hand, grimacing in pain.
What the hell? This hero doesn't follow the script at all!
