    Chapter 143: Challenging Everyone

Lake went pale with fear. "You broke the Law?"

Ling Qingjue didn't even glance at him, sneering, "Just something I did on the fly."

With the Law shattered, this world would likely be in chaos for a while.

To avoid serious incidents, traveling to another world required a ton of approvals, otherwise you'd be arrested by a Law Enforcer.

Ling Qingjue tore space with his bare hands, clearly having no intention of reporting to the higher-ups.

He goes wherever he wants. He's been running wild for years, only got the short end of the stick at the hands of the Town Chief.

But now that he's been crowned Demon King, even the Town Chief can't touch him now.

Lake steeled himself and charged through the spatial rift before it closed.

He didn't know what Ling Qingjue would do to Meng Shu, nor whether Ling Qingjue truly had the ability to bring him back. But as long as there was a sliver of hope to revive Meng Shu, he wouldn't give up.

Spatial rifts are different from Magic Passages; it's easy to get lost in various spaces.

Afraid of getting lost, Lake clung to Ling Qingjue's clothes and wouldn't let go.

Ling Qingjue looked at him coldly. "Scram."

Lake was about to cry from fear. "No! I'm scared."

"Who told you to follow?" Ling Qingjue's brows were cold, had no patience for this dead weight. "You that into him? He's mine, what business is it of yours?"

Lake had no clue why he was being so jealous, and whined pitifully, "But you don't even know where he lives or understand that world. I at least spent a few months there; maybe I can help."

Afraid that Ling Qingjue would refuse, he stammered, pitching himself: "That world is very different from ours. Its rules are way harsher. If no one shows you around, you'll easily waste time."

Lake gulped and asked carefully, "You also want to bring him back quickly, right?"

Ling Qingjue's eyes darkened, staring at him coldly. After a long while, he turned away indifferently. "Fine. Get lost and I'm not coming for you."

Lake breathed a huge sigh of relief.

He followed happily, continuing to tug at his clothes without letting go.

    "Thanks, boss, thanks."

With Ling Qingjue blocking ahead like a mother hen, the little chick Lake made it through safely across the spatial rift.

The two landed in the real world.

Lake said, "Houses are packed really tight here, and Teleportation magic is unreliable; it's easy to have deviations."

The two stood by the roadside. Ling Qingjue looked at the endless stream of cars and frowned, which was rare for him. "This place... why is it nothing but cars?"

"Right, they don't use magic, so tech is super advanced."

More and more people gathered around. Ling Qingjue was good-looking, wearing a plain white top and black pants.

But he had a striking, cold aura, stood there looking like he was glowing pale.

The weird part was that he was holding an urn in his arms.

People couldn't help staring at him.

Those gazes were too direct and intense. Ling Qingjue didn't tolerate it at all and retorted, "What are you looking at? Want me to gouge your eyes out?"

They quickly looked away and hurried off.

Lake shook his head helplessly. "Boss, healing is a pain in this world. You can't go around gouging out eyes."

Ling Qingjue held back his anger. "Where'd he die?"

    "At his home."

"Then his soul should be at his home. We'll go get his soul now." Ling Qingjue's expression was very light, unreadable.

Lake shrank back. "But I don't even know what province we're in..."

    "..."

"We need a bunch of cash to get a ride to him."

Ling Qingjue's face was blank. "Got money?"

Lake teared up over being broke.

Ling Qingjue had lost patience, and a magic circle lit up under his feet.

Lake heard the Law crack again.

He quickly grabbed Ling Qingjue's arm and pulled him into an alley. "Dude! Please keep a low profile! This world doesn't have magic. If you show up and cause a huge scene, do you want to be watched?"

Suddenly the sky changed color and a fierce wind blew.

Ling Qingjue used magic recklessly in another world, already attracting the attention of the Law of that world.

Lake was trembling, hiding behind him. "It's over, you've offended this world's Law! It's coming to kick your butt!"

Ling Qingjue looked up at the sky, completely unafraid. "Come out here!"

    Oh crap!

Lake almost fainted, his vision going dark.

At Ling Qingjue's words, the sky slowly cleared.

In front of them, a golden light materialized out of nowhere. It took human form, in a deep, solemn voice: "You are not from this world. Why are you here?"

Ling Qingjue raised the urn in his hand. "Can't you tell? Your world killed my guy. Now I'm taking him home."

"Here the dead stay dead. It's fate."

"Fate, huh?" Ling Qingjue smiled at him, but it wasn't friendly. In an instant, the wind shifted and clouds roiled, and a terrifying pulse of magic scattered the Law's human form.

The surrounding houses were nearly damaged, but luckily the Law threw up a barrier just in time to avoid disaster.

"All it takes is one word from you, and I have to do it myself?"

Ling Qingjue's smile didn't fade. "I haven't even started. Want a taste of my Void Annihilation? I'm pretty sure I can level this city."

    The Law was stunned silent.

A long moment passed before the Law finally spoke: "But our world has many rules that I cannot override. Above is the Heavenly Palace, below is the Underworld; the three souls and six spirits, reincarnation and transmigration—all follow fixed principles."

Ling Qingjue remained expressionless. "What's that got to do with me?"

He opened his palm, and black flames materialized in his palm. "All I know is that when I'm annoyed, I destroy the world. This flame is called Black Flame—once it ignites, it will never be extinguished until everything is reduced to ashes."

    The Law: "..."

    *Unreasonable, completely unreasonable!*

"Even if you kill everyone, it won't help. The supreme law established this rule. Even if you shatter the Law itself, he still won't come back."

Ling Qingjue nodded slightly and smiled. "Is that so?"

His eyes crinkled. "Do you know what I like to do most?"

    "What?"

"I love nothing more than being unreasonable and being a Berry Cat." Ling Qingjue snapped his fingers, and the black flames rapidly spread from him. His smile grew more twisted. "Why should he be the only one to die? Haha, now I'm pissed off—let's all die together!"

"Stop this now!" The Law was so frightened it could barely hold its human form. "I'll help you! I'll help you! I'll do anything for you! I have no quarrel with you—why do you have to come and ruin my world?"

Ling Qingjue said calmly, "Don't worry. I've already shattered the Law in my own world."

He said it as casually as if talking about the weather.

"I'm fair—whoever makes me unhappy, I destroy them."

As the Demon King, Ling Qingjue knew exactly what he was.

He defies everything, despises everything, destroys everything.

A Demon King must live up to the title!

Must do lots and lots of evil deeds!

Ling Qingjue bent down, grabbed the Law by its head, and said, "Cooperate with me, okay?"
