Chapter 164: Ugly Freaks
by 李怀沙Chapter 164: Ugly Losers
Meng Shu naturally caught him, taking him at his word. "That guy's so big, how could you not see him?"
"I don't bother with every piece of trash that comes along," Ling Qingjue said. "I couldn't even be bothered to glance at him."
Xu Qingfeng's soul was on the verge of scattering, his voice growing shrill. "Meng Shu, how could you do this to me? Have you forgotten all the good I did for you back then? Without me, you'd never have made a cent in your life!"
He got more frantic. "I've got a wife and kid! What'll happen to them if I die? Even if you hate me, you've got to think about them!"
Meng Shu was quiet for a moment, then said softly, "Don't worry. After you die, they'll inherit everything you own. I only want your life; they'll live fine off that money."
His eyes crinkled in a smile. "I won't go after them."
Seeing that this approach wasn't working, Xu Qingfeng totally lost it. "That's my money! I haven't even spent it all! I worked so damn hard for this life—"
Ling Qingjue lost patience and slapped him again.
"Meng Shu," Ling Qingjue asked, "do you have anything else you want to say to him?"
Meng Shu hesitated, then shook his head. "No."
"Then I'm taking you back to Moon Bay." Ling Qingjue took his hand. "Come on."
Meng Shu glanced back at Xu Qingfeng.
The man was kneeling on the ground, guarding his own corpse, his form fading more and more in the wind, ready to disappear.
He steeled himself and followed Ling Qingjue into the magic circle.
Back home, Lake had been waiting for a while and rushed over anxiously. "How'd it go?"
Ling Qingjue said, "All done. Next, I'm taking him back to Moon Bay to make him a body. As for here..."
He looked around the dim little house. "Meng Shu, anything worth keeping here? We're not coming back. Take anything you want."
Lake thought to himself, forcibly bringing stuff from another world was also against the rules.
But now Ling Qingjue had been violating rules left and right. Once he returned to Moon Bay, he'd be punished no matter what. This cat clearly had a 'screw it' attitude—since he was getting punished anyway, he might as well stir up more trouble.
Meng Shu thought about it. "There's an iron box in the drawer. I want to take it."
Ling Qingjue nodded, went to the drawer, and took out the box. When he opened it, there were a few glass marbles and some old photos inside.
He picked up a photo—must've been taken when Meng Shu was fifteen. His features were young and fresh, standing under a tree, smiling shyly.
"So many moonstones." Ling Qingjue didn't know what the glass marbles were and raised an eyebrow. "All of them for me?"
Meng Shu laughed. "They're yours if you want them."
Ling Qingjue said nothing, just put the box away, took Meng Shu's hand again, and pulled him into the space rift.
Afraid he'd get lost, he locked their fingers together.
Lake hurried after them. He was afraid of getting lost too, so he boldly grabbed hold of Ling Qingjue's sleeve.
He didn't dare grab Meng Shu—first, because he thought Ling Qingjue was too small-minded, and second, because Meng Shu didn't have a physical body, so he couldn't be touched.
"...Ling Qingjue, will the cost of reviving me be heavy?" Meng Shu stared at the ground, stammering. "Will you regret it?"
"I don't know." Ling Qingjue looked straight ahead. Countless spaces opened up in front of him as he looked for the rift to Moon Bay, his expression cold. "All I know is if I don't save you now, I'll regret it."
"What will you have to pay?"
Ling Qingjue said, "Fight that Law Agent."
"Are they strong?"
Lake whispered, "About the same level as me."
Ling Qingjue nodded. "A bunch of useless idiots."
"I see." Meng Shu fidgeted, stumbling over his words. "I'll protect you."
"Oh." Ling Qingjue's face was blank. "Suit yourself."
He found the rift back to Moon Bay, turned his head, and slightly curved his eyes. "We're going home."
Meng Shu was pulled into the rift by him. The world spun, and the three of them landed in Moon Bay.
Ling Qingjue landed first. He smoothly caught Meng Shu, while Lake, unattended, fell clumsily to the floor, clutching his butt and grimacing.
"Stay here." Ling Qingjue set Meng Shu down, his feet steady on the ground. "I'm going to get the Resurrection Magnolia."
Meng Shu's eyelids twitched.
He never thought he'd end up using that flower himself.
His gaze followed Ling Qingjue. "Okay."
"You—go back to your place." Ling Qingjue lifted his chin at Lake.
He wanted some alone time.
The third wheel needed to scram immediately.
Lake looked at Meng Shu with a pitiful expression. "Can I come see him after he's revived?"
"No." Ling Qingjue was exceptionally cold. "Without my permission, no one is to see him."
Meng Shu tried to protest. "Cat cat, that's too domineering..."
Ling Qingjue immediately bristled at him, shooting a sharp glare. "Do you think you're immune to being yelled at?"
The gutless Lord Hero chose submission.
Lake left, sniffling.
Ling Qingjue went to the small balcony and brought back the Resurrection Magnolia. Meng Shu leaned over and noticed many withered petals on the balcony. "What kind of flower is that? Why has it withered?"
"What do you think?"
Ling Qingjue looked up at him.
Meng Shu's eyes widened. A thought flashed through his mind of that gorgeous Everlasting Flower, like a cold flame. "It's... that flower."
Ling Qingjue didn't look at him again. He took out the Resurrection Magnolia, then summoned Meng Shu's urn of ashes. Using the ashes as a medium, he unfolded a magic circle. A blurry human figure materialized in midair.
"You made me too short." Meng Shu directed from the side. "I'm not that short. You've barely made me five feet tall."
Ling Qingjue was furious and whooshed the figure tall, like pulling a noodle.
Now it was over two meters high.
Meng Shu said, "How can it be that tall? Chop off a bit."
Ling Qingjue ignored him and molded him into all sorts of bizarre shapes, even put a nose on his butt and a mouth on his back.
"Your skills are terrible," Meng Shu muttered. "When you make bodies for others, they come out so good-looking, but for me, it's this ugly. Anyway, a nose can't be on the butt."
"Better ugly, so you won't be flirting around every day." Ling Qingjue then gave him an extremely ugly face. At least this time the facial features were in the right place, but they were still hideously arranged.
Meng Shu was picky about looks, and he couldn't accept being too ugly. He hugged Ling Qingjue's arm and begged pitifully, "Make me handsome! I still have to face people!"
Ling Qingjue didn't even look at him, sneering, "Still want to show your face? Once you're resurrected, I'll lock you up, and you'll only be able to look at me."
