Chapter 163: Oops Slipped
by 李怀沙Chapter 163: Whoops, I Slipped
Meng Shu asked again, "What happened to him now?"
Ling Qingjue said, "He's dead."
"When did he die?" Meng Shu was stunned.
"Any living creature touched by the black flame is sure to die," Ling Qingjue said coldly. "Two slaps killed him."
He reached out and pulled out a wisp of soul from Xu Qingfeng's body. "Once dead, the soul can leave the body. Let him apologize to you face to face."
Xu Qingfeng floated in midair, bewildered. "I... I'm dead?"
He raised his head and immediately saw Meng Shu.
Meng Shu's soul retained his appearance before death: stick-thin with hollow cheeks—it was clear he had not been well before he died.
Xu Qingfeng's lips trembled. "Meng Shu..."
Meng Shu looked at him calmly. "Brother Xu, long time no see."
"You... really died?" Xu Qingfeng stared at his own corpse on the ground in disbelief. "I'm dead too... I..."
His eyes turned bloodshot. "I only took some of your money, but before that you were so poor! If I hadn't helped you, how could you have had a good life? I was just collecting interest—there's no free lunch in the world! And you actually got this monster to come kill me!"
Compared to his rage, Meng Shu appeared so calm.
"If you had asked me, I would have given it to you," Meng Shu said slowly, as if telling a tale. "You're right—You took me under your wing, and it's only right that I repay you with the money I earned."
His eyes crinkled. "Brother Xu, actually at that time I planned to transfer half of the shares to you. I planned to wait one more quarter and then I could properly repay you."
But Xu Qingfeng couldn't wait and ran off with all the money.
Xu Qingfeng wasn't listening at all. "Since you were going to give it to me anyway, why are you getting revenge! I finally managed to live a good life—why are you killing me!"
Ling Qingjue couldn't listen anymore. He walked over and slapped him twice more, in an icy tone. "Watch your language. If you keep spouting nonsense, I'll slap you again."
Xu Qingfeng's eyes were red-rimmed, but he didn't dare speak.
He still wanted to stay alive.
Meng Shu looked at him quietly for a long time, then sighed. "Forget it, Cat, go ahead."
Ling Qingjue beamed. "I've been waiting for you to say that."
"Brother Xu, this is the last time I'll call you that." Meng Shu took a deep breath, his tone sincere. "I remember everything you did for me over the years. And I also remember your betrayal afterwards."
"You were selfish once; now I want to be selfish too."
Not realizing something was off, Xu Qingfeng backed away in a panic. "What are you going to do?"
"I got sick, and because I had no money for treatment, I died," Meng Shu said flatly. "My cat has nobody to look after him. I have to go back and look after him."
"A cat? You want to kill me over a cat?!"
Xu Qingfeng, without a shred of guilt, screamed hysterically, "Meng Shu, you dare kill me for a cat! If you want to die, go die! Why drag me with you!"
"...I didn't want to at first, but now I suddenly do." Meng Shu joined in the laughter, a bright, dazzling smile that finally brought him back to life.
Ling Qingjue pulled him back, blocking him with his body. "Leave the rest to me."
Xu Qingfeng looked at Meng Shu with a complex expression and suddenly asked again, "Are you really dead?"
Meng Shu smiled at him.
"...Really?" Xu Qingfeng lowered his head and muttered to himself, "I only wanted money; I didn't mean to kill you."
Ling Qingjue sneered, "You've already swindled all his money, and you say you didn't mean to kill him?"
He waved his hand, and Xu Qingfeng floated to the left under his control, while Meng Shu floated to the right.
At the same time, the sky and earth darkened; the originally dazzling sun sank, and a fierce wind arose.
In front of Xu Qingfeng appeared a burning candle.
In front of Meng Shu was a candle that had already gone out.
Forbidden magic: life swap.
Ling Qingjue unhurriedly unfolded the magic array. "Didn't expect your life to be so good—the candle of life still has so much left. Just in time, we'll enjoy it on your behalf."
Meng Shu looked at the bright candle in front of him, then at the bare, long-extinguished candle in front of himself, and couldn't help but find it amusing.
His life had long since burned out.
Xu Qingfeng was not a fool; he immediately understood what was going on. "My life is still this long—you two really are the ones who killed me..."
He looked at Meng Shu, his voice very low. "You... why did you die?"
Meng Shu said, "I got sick and had no money for treatment."
"...I didn't know." Xu Qingfeng's voice trembled. "I didn't know. If I had known, I would have returned your money—how could I have watched you die?"
Meng Shu gave a bitter laugh and offered no excuse.
Ling Qingjue kept sneering. "Nonsense. You never paid any attention to him—how could you have known he was sick? Now that he's dead, you remember to say these things. Are you trying to fool a child?"
"I really didn't mean to kill him!" Xu Qingfeng raised his voice a little, then quickly lowered it. "I was just... too tired. My wife always complained that I wasn't as rich as others. She was pregnant at the time, and she said if I couldn't give her money, she'd get an abortion."
That sounded like a good excuse.
If it were Meng Shu, he might have bought it.
Unfortunately, the one standing here was Ling Qingjue. He didn't believe a single word. He slapped him again in annoyance. "What, whenever something happens you blame your wife? Did your wife ask for the swimming pool too? Did the child just appear out of thin air? Did she tell you to swindle and cheat? What bullshit—if you did it, admit it. Blaming your wife and child will make you die without descendants."
This string of curses made Xu Qingfeng's face turn white and red.
"If you don't have the ability to give your wife and child a good life, then don't get married. What do you mean she forced you to earn money? Isn't earning money your responsibility?"
Ling Qingjue grabbed his hair and slapped him once for every sentence.
"Don't give me that sweet talk—I don't believe a single word."
Xu Qingfeng still tried to argue, "What do you monsters know about human feelings? You have no idea how much I sacrificed for my family—"
"SMACK!"
Another slap.
Ling Qingjue said, with no sincerity at all, "Ah, my right hand just lost control and accidentally hit you."
Another slap.
"Wow, my hand has a mind of its own. I really don't want to hit you, it's all my hand's fault."
"Slap!"
"I don't want to hit you, but my hand insists on hitting you. If you want to blame someone, blame it, all right?"
Seeing that Xu Qingfeng's face was swelling from the slaps, Meng Shu actually found it amusing and couldn't help but laugh, his eyes crinkling with amusement. "Cat, hitting him hurts your hand."
Ling Qingjue stopped and said with deathly coldness, "I hate irresponsible males the most."
He raised his hand and sent a wind blade, cutting Xu Qingfeng's candle of life in two.
He moved the end with the flame onto Meng Shu's candle of life, where they quickly merged. Meng Shu's candle of life rekindled.
All that remained was to shape a new body for Meng Shu.
Xu Qingfeng's candle of life had lost its light.
Ling Qingjue ignored him and, as he walked past, he 'accidentally' kicked Xu Qingfeng's corpse.
It flew ten meters away.
"Oops, my foot slipped," Ling Qingjue said, and then 'unintentionally' bumped into Meng Shu's arms.
