Chapter 77: The Hated Miss of the Dating Show (26)
by 毛毛崽崽Chapter 77 The Dating Show’s Least-Liked Heiress (26)
Seeing Tang Qing enter the recording booth, Mi Yang was clearly taken aback.
He was even more shocked when he saw her putting on the headphones.
"What are you doing?" Mi Yang asked gruffly. "I'm working."
"Didn’t I tell you to wait outside?"
The heiress adjusted her headset without turning around. "I'm helping you out."
"You don’t know yet, do you? Your collaborator today can't make it." She pointed at the anxious assistant outside. "She looked everywhere and I was the only one available."
"At such a critical moment, I stepped up. Aren’t you grateful?"
After hearing Tang Qing's explanation, Mi Yang was speechless. He yanked off his headphones in disbelief. *"You?"*
*"Are you kidding me?"*
"Listen, princess, I’m warning you—this isn’t some fun game…" Barely keeping his temper in check, Mi Yang managed to rein it in a little. "Hey, this isn’t the time for jokes. Don’t screw this up…"
As he reached to take off Tang Qing’s headphones…
Tang Qing began to sing.
Though it was just a few soft hums, the moment her voice filled the room, everyone froze.
It was amazing!
Tang Qing’s voice was so stunning it was beyond words—completely different from her usual tone. When she sang, there was a unique quality to her voice, the kind music professionals prized most.
Mi Yang was dumbfounded.
This heiress always managed to surprise him in unexpected ways. Cooking was one thing—someone who looked like she’d never lifted a finger could cook so well. And now, despite her snarky, biting remarks, her singing revealed a whole other side to her.
"You…" His hand, which had been about to remove her headphones, froze mid-air. Mi Yang’s voice turned hoarse. "You sing…"
"I sing well, don’t I?" The heiress said matter-of-factly. "Didn’t I say so when we met?"
"Our date today was destined."
"Without me, your new album would’ve been doomed."
Her tone was full of smug pride, like a child who’d just gotten a reward—beaming with pride—*weirdly cute.*
Mi Yang turned and stared at Tang Qing’s face. For some reason, though it was a familiar sight, the energetic look in her eyes made his heart skip a beat.
Again, that weird, sudden heartbeat…
His fingers clenched unconsciously as he forced himself to look away, muttering stubbornly, *"Then don’t slow me down."*
Tang Qing’s recording task that afternoon was simple—a humming section and a duet.
Given her lack of experience, one might have expected some struggle. Yet, to everyone’s surprise, the session went remarkably smoothly, especially the duet, which they *nailed it in one take.*
Even agent Anna was astonished by how efficient everything was.
"Is this really their first time working together?" Anna actually checked Tang Qing’s file, which didn’t show any prior vocal training.
"Anna, don't you think they click really well?" The assistant leaned in, eyes sparkling as she observed the two in the recording booth, clearly rooting for them. "This is the first time I've seen Mi Yang sync so well with someone else..."
This kind of connection doesn’t happen often.
Mi Yang is a genius singer—like a dazzling diamond, brilliant from every angle, but also undeniably prickly...
In all his years since debut, he had worked with very few female singers, most driven away by his bad temper.
Even those who stayed struggled through recordings. Even Li Si, who’d worked with him forever, never had sessions go this smoothly.
"Anna, what if they actually hit it off? Wouldn’t that be nice?" The assistant whispered, cautiously watching Anna’s expression.
Only when Anna didn’t seem upset did she relax. "And... Mi Yang didn’t even get mad when Tang Qing walked in earlier..."
Anna had picked up on it too.
Normally, Mi Yang would’ve blown up if someone barged in during a recording. But today... he didn’t lash out at Tang Qing.
Sometimes, it’s easier to see from the outside. Mi Yang might not even realize how special Tang Qing is to him.
"Miss Tang, I never expected you to be so professional," Anna immediately praised her as they stepped out. "Without you today, the album release would’ve been delayed. You really saved us."
It was the truth. In that critical moment, Tang Qing had been the perfect fix.
"Miss Tang, with your looks and voice, have you considered joining our company?"
Force of habit—Anna never passed up a chance to recruit talent. Plus, Tang Qing’s rising popularity on variety shows proved her strong appeal.
"Anna, come on. Isn’t dealing with me enough? I’m trouble enough for you," Mi Yang cut in before Tang Qing could answer. "She’s just as bad as me. You’d regret it."
"Oh? So you wouldn’t welcome me as your junior?"
"Of course not. Someone like you? Better stay away." Flustered but defiant, Mi Yang glared at her.
"Well, if I did join..." Tang Qing paused deliberately, rolling her eyes. "Someone’s gonna start thinking I’m scheming again..."
"Who are you talking about?"
Like two kids bickering, neither backed down.
The assistant couldn’t help laughing. "Mi Yang, you and Tang Qing seem pretty tight..."
"Who’s tight with her/him?!"
That strange synchronicity... The assistant’s heart fluttered, her inner fangirl freaking out.
When the agent stepped away, Mi Yang awkwardly pulled at Tang Qing’s sleeve. "Hey... thanks for earlier."
"This industry’s brutal. There’ll always be haters, and with your temper, the hate could get nasty..."
That was why he’d rushed to refuse Anna’s offer. Mi Yang knew his own flaws—and Tang Qing was just as stubborn.
He believed someone like her should live freely, not tied down by what others think.
She was meant to stay true to herself.
