Chapter 299: The Background Fiancée in the Campus Novel (2)
by 毛毛崽崽Chapter 299: The Unnoticed Fiancée in a Campus Story (2)
Dormitory No. 1403.
Standing at the doorway, Tang Qing caught sight of the original female lead of the story, Xin Ke.
She was indeed the innocent, doe-eyed type as described—her features soft and innocent, with eyes as clear as a deer’s, almost unbelievably so.
Dressed in male disguise, she pulled off the boyish look perfectly.
Xin Ke was straining on her tiptoes, holding up her quilt, fighting with it forever but still failing to toss it onto the upper bunk.
The rustling went on and on, and Xin Ke kept shooting glances at the guy next to her, hoping for help. Yet, he remained seated, acting totally clueless, as if he hadn’t noticed at all…
As expected.
These rich kids were all so cold-hearted…
Biting her lip, Xin Ke gritted her teeth and gave it one last heave, ready to fling the bedding upward in one final effort!
Just then, Tang Qing suddenly appeared!
With a slim, pale arm raised, standing half a head taller, Tang Qing effortlessly helped Xin Ke place the bedding onto the upper bunk.
Thrilled, Xin Ke immediately looked up—only to lock eyes with a warm, smiling gaze. The other girl spoke gently, “The bed is indeed a bit high.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Tang Qing.”
Staring at the outstretched hand, Xin Ke stared blankly for a second before snapping back to reality!
How could a guy have such a gorgeous smile?!
She had thought the roommate she saw upon entering was already the hottest guy ever, but who knew there’d be someone even more stunning!
And most importantly…
This roommate seemed way friendlier!
At this thought, Xin Ke immediately grinned like an idiot, blurting out, “Hello, I’m Xin Ke!”
“I’m a transfer student who just arrived today!”
Tang Qing’s smile softened. “Really?”
“I’m also a transfer student who just arrived today…” Pausing slightly, Tang Qing continued in an easygoing tone, “Seems like we’re quite fated.”
Hearing this, Xin Ke couldn’t help but tilt her head a little… Fated? It almost sounded… destined?
Still zoning out, Xin Ke suddenly found a pack of cookies placed before her. Looking up, she met the handsome roommate’s gentle smile once more.
Tang Qing said, “A welcome gift.”
Holy crap!
Whoever said Saint University was full of snobby rich brats was spreading lies!
Total BS!
Here she was, meeting a Prince Charming right off the bat!
Tang Qing offered the same welcome gift to another roommate.
Shen Shu.
From the start, the story’s male lead acted like a ghost—quiet, cold, and standoffish.
He’d already thought Xin Ke was too loud earlier. When she fumbled with the blankets, Shen Shu just turned his back, ignoring her.
"I don't eat sweets," Shen Shu frowned, outright rejecting Tang Qing's kindness.
"It’s coffee-flavored—barely sweet."
Either ignoring or unfazed by Shen Shu’s attitude, Tang Qing cheerfully set the cookies on his desk.
Glancing over, Tang Qing caught sight of the name on the book's page—Shen Shu.
The ‘Shu’ as in ‘shu zhi gao ge’—like something kept out of reach.
"Your name is quite unique."
Fitting for the story’s aloof prince—his name alone screamed ‘look but don’t touch.’
Catching her stare, Shen Shu snapped his book shut. "I don’t like nosy people."
The implication: Keep your eyes to yourself.
Yikes. Tough crowd.
After that, Tang Qing left the icy genius alone, instead watching Xin Ke with amusement as she bustled about.
All thumbs but full of funny faces—she was kinda cute, honestly...
Noticing Tang Qing watching, Xin Ke—already a mess—panicked harder! Her face flushed unnaturally red.
Oh no! The angel’s looking at me—so nice!!
...
Cen Yinghuai walked in, saw two strangers in his dorm, and scowled.
Shen Shu was already a pain—now two more randos?!
"Why are transfer students staying in our dorm?"
"Who arranged this?"
The rich boy’s glare sent Xin Ke shrinking like a scared rabbit. "'Dorm admin’s orders…' she squeaked."
"When I came in, they said only Room 1403 wasn’t full yet."
"Complain to the dorm admin if you’re mad." Xin Ke shuffled back like a spooked kitten.
Cen Yinghuai’s glare made her flinch—then a warm hand steadied her shoulder.
The angel!!
Tang Qing squeezed her shoulder, calming her. "School policy. Dorm admin’s call. Follow the rules."
"Don’t take your tantrum out on us."
"If you want a single room, you can also choose to withdraw from housing."
This roommate seemed quite quick-witted, leaving Cen Yinghuai feeling cornered by just a few words.
Who'd willingly live in a dorm anyway?
Ever since the old man heard about his decision to call off the engagement, he had been huffing and puffing, finding fault with everything Cen Yinghuai did. That was why he had found an excuse to live off-campus this semester...
From the moment he discovered his roommate was Shen Shu, that pretentious ass, Cen Yinghuai had started regretting his decision...
Now, with two more roommates added to the mix, Cen Yinghuai—who had never shared living quarters with anyone before—everything felt off.
Fuming, he slumped into a seat and spotted the small packet of cookies on the table.
"Who brought these?"
Tang Qing raised her hand. "Me."
"A housewarming gift, though you don’t seem very welcoming." Unlike Xin Ke, Tang Qing didn’t bat an eye at Cen Yinghuai’s intimidating glare, her expression unruffled.
"They’re strawberry—for you."
Strawberry?
Wasn’t that a girl’s flavor?
The young master tore open the packet—handmade cookies, each imprinted with tiny animal designs.
"So damn girly..." He'd barely started sneering when he suddenly fell silent.
Damn, these are good!
Cen Yinghuai chewed a few more times—it really was delicious!
Only then did he actually take in Tang Qing. She had a pleasant face, but what stood out most were her eyes—clear and gentle, always brimming with warmth. Clearly, she was easygoing.
Cen Yinghuai suddenly blurted out, "Have we met before?"
Staring at Tang Qing’s face, he felt a vague sense of familiarity, yet couldn’t recall where he might have seen her.
"No."
Under the young master’s scrutiny, Tang Qing replied gently, smiling as she extended her hand. "First time meeting. I’m Tang Qing."
"You’re also named Tang Qing?" The familiar name made Cen Yinghuai even more suspicious. How could this person share the same name as his so-called fiancée?
He double-checked, confirming the presence of the telltale Adam’s apple before finally relaxing slightly.
Freaking hell!
Thank goodness St. U only admitted male students—for a moment, he thought his fiancée had tracked him down!
