Chapter 107 The CEO’s Divorced Wife’s Gentle Knife (6)
by 毛毛崽崽Chapter 107: The CEO's Divorced Wife's Gentle Knife (6)
Since discovering Tang Qing's cooking skills, Sheng Baihui had unabashedly used the excuse of taste-testing to mooch meals.
Not only did Sheng Baihui eat with relish, but she also guarded the food jealously. Even if she couldn't finish it immediately, she would take the small bowl away, leaving no chance for anyone else to have a bite.
Mrs. Zhang even began to suspect whether the madam was biased—could someone's cooking really be that delicious?
After all, Chef Zheng was a Michelin-starred chef who had studied abroad. Could Mrs. Tang's skills possibly surpass his?
Her skepticism was too obvious. With a steamed dumpling in her mouth, Sheng Baihui mumbled, "What’s with that look? Don’t believe me?"
Today’s steamed pork dumplings, Tang Qing claimed, were learned from a southern breakfast master.
Each one was plump and generously stuffed. With one bite, the juicy meat filling spilled out, incredibly flavorful.
The only regret was that Tang Qing had only made one batch.
"Fine, I’ll grudgingly let you try one." After much internal struggle, Sheng Baihui picked out an imperfect-looking dumpling and handed it to Mrs. Zhang.
"Hmph, when I say it’s delicious, you always think I’m pulling your leg."
"Try it yourself. Chef Zheng doesn’t have this kind of skill."
Taking the dumpling, Mrs. Zhang didn’t think much of it.
After all, the madam was biased—she’d probably praise anything Mrs. Tang made.
But with one careless bite, Mrs. Zhang’s eyes widened instantly!
Wait!
This dumpling…
It was genuinely delicious! Not only was the meat tender, but there was also a hint of sweetness to it—perhaps a characteristic of southern-style breakfast. The sweetness wasn’t cloying at all.
In all her years, Mrs. Zhang had never tasted a steamed dumpling with such a delicate sweetness!
Wolfing it down, Mrs. Zhang’s gaze toward the remaining dumplings on the table changed entirely.
Seeing this, Sheng Baihui quickly pulled the steamer closer to herself, instantly defensive. "Just one! No more!"
Hugging the steamer, Sheng Baihui eyed Mrs. Zhang as if guarding against a thief.
When Li Zhou came downstairs, this was the scene he encountered.
Again! These past few days, Sheng Baihui had been acting strangely—she seemed to have taken root in the dining room, always eating whenever he saw her, and the aroma was mouthwatering.
Every time Li Zhou tried to sit down and join her, Sheng Baihui would make off with her bowl.
Three days had passed, and still no taste…
"Mom, I’m heading to the company." Standing at the staircase, Li Zhou said expressionlessly, his eyes flickering toward the steamed dumplings in Sheng Baihui’s hands, which emitted a faint but tempting aroma.
Did Chef Zheng make dumplings today?
"Uh-huh."
Barely acknowledging him, Sheng Baihui went right on eating.
After eating one dumpling, President Li still made no move to leave, his eyes locked onto her...
Sheng Baihui blinked in confusion. "What? Why aren’t you leaving yet?"
"Mom, I haven’t had breakfast."
Eyeing the dumplings in Sheng Baihui’s bowl, Li Zhou finally blurted out, "What about my breakfast?"
"Why ask me about your breakfast?" Clutching her bowl, Sheng Baihui seemed to pick up on her son’s hint. "This is *my* breakfast. Want food? Go ask Chef Zheng yourself."
Unexpectedly, Li Zhou spotted Tang Qing in the kitchen.
Apron-clad, with flour coating her hands and dusting her cheeks, Tang Qing had her hair hastily tied into a low ponytail. A few stray strands framed her face, making her look like a flour-streaked kitten.
"Li Zhou?"
The kitten-like girl froze mid-motion, noticing his presence. Hesitantly, she asked, "You’re here for...?"
"Breakfast," Li Zhou stated.
Tang Qing quickly pointed to the pot. "Chef Zheng whipped up millet porridge. I’ll grab you a bowl."
"No dumplings?"
President Li’s eyes swept the kitchen. The steamer stood empty—so where’d Sheng Baihui get those dumplings?
And why did hers look so much tastier?
"The dumplings..." Tang Qing hedged, suddenly flustered. "They’re all gone."
Not again!
Every time, Sheng Baihui got something different—and better!
Three days straight without those fragrant meals. The picky President Li’s mood soured further.
What was up with Chef Zheng? Why the special treatment for Sheng Baihui?
Not finding what he craved, Li Zhou turned to leave—only for Tang Qing to dart after him. Kitten-like, she snagged his sleeve, leaving a white flour print.
"Sorry!"
Panicked, she swiped at the flour stain, smearing it worse.
"Enough!"
Seizing her flailing hand, Li Zhou glowered. "What’s with the pawing at me?"
"N-no... I was..." His hold was too tight, and Tang Qing’s eyes welled up again, her voice shrinking. "I was *getting* you breakfast."
Only then did Li Zhou notice the millet porridge in her other hand.
"Li Zhou... could you let go?"
Squirming but stuck in his grip, her voice trembled. "You’re hurting me..."
Here came the waterworks.
Seemed like every time, he wound up with Tang Qing in tears.
President Li was fed up with Tang Qing’s constant sniffling. He jerked his hand away and was about to tell her to shut up when something burning hot splashed onto the back of his hand.
Li Zhou froze... It was Tang Qing’s tears.
Then he saw her fragile face again. Every time she cried, her eyes turned red, and her already kittenish face became even more of a mess.
The little kitten had turned into a helpless stray.
Sniffling, she rubbed her eyes until they were red, looking at him with hurt resentment.
The stray kitten’s eyes seemed to speak, accusing him of his rough handling earlier.
"You hurt me," she mumbled, her voice a tiny, wounded-animal whimper.
Li Zhou had intended to scold her harshly, but the words stuck in his throat. He stared blankly at Tang Qing’s wrist, completely thrown. Had he really just grabbed her once?
And it turned red?
Were all women like this?
With hardly any experience with women—his only encounter being in a state of confusion—President Li now found himself out of his depth. He couldn’t make sense of it. He had merely tugged her wrist, and it turned red... then she cried again...
"Here’s your breakfast." The stray kitten pulled herself together and handed him the millet porridge. "I got flour on your clothes by accident."
"And I didn’t clean it off properly just now. Maybe you should change?"
Hearing her question, Li Zhou finally snapped out of his daze and answered curtly, "No need."
"Just now... I’m sorry."
His words sounded awkward, but Tang Qing’s wrist was clearly red. "Next time... keep your hands to yourself. To avoid..."
"Something like this happening."
He chose to maintain distance after all. Two people about to go their separate ways didn’t need such close contact.
Li Zhou shut back down into his usual coldness and added brusquely, "Also, since you’ve already signed the divorce papers, make time to get it done with me."
