Chapter 120: What goes around comes around
byChapter 120: What Goes Around Comes Around
When the crimson invitation was presented to Fu Yuchen, the young man made no move to accept it.
The two parties stood facing each other, an awkward silence hanging heavy in the air.
The man kept his hands outstretched, holding the invitation. Seeing Fu Yuchen’s unresponsiveness, a flicker of embarrassment crossed his face before he turned to his wife. "Honey..."
The woman, incensed by her husband’s weakness, instantly flared up. She reached out, twisted his ear hard, and began to rail, "Fu Yuchen, if you refuse to acknowledge your roots, fine. Three million—no, five million—and our family will sever all ties with you forever."
It was an outrageous demand.
Not only had this couple never spent a dime raising Fu Yuchen, but over the years, they had extorted millions from Fu Cheng under the guise of supporting elderly relatives.
A million was a mere trifle to the Fu family.
But now, Fu Yuchen would rather squander his money than give them another cent.
Cradling his little sister, the young man’s cool demeanor remained unshaken, his voice devoid of any tremor. "I will not give you another penny. Even if you contact my father, it changes nothing. If you’re aggrieved, feel free to sue me."
"Oh, and I still hold all the bank records of the transfers I’ve made to you over the years. If you’re confident you can win a lawsuit, by all means, proceed."
With that, he gestured to the butler. "Uncle Zhang, please escort them out. From now on, if any strangers arrive, notify me first before allowing them entry."
The butler, who had been standing discreetly in the corner, immediately stepped forward.
As the second young master of the Fu family, Fu Yuchen had a temper in the past, but he had never taken it out on the household staff.
Moreover, he was the only one among the three young masters who had lost both parents, so the servants privately sympathized with and doted on him.
When the butler had first seen the woman claiming to be the second young master’s aunt, he had thought it might be good news. But then she had immediately demanded five million, as if the Fu family’s wealth was conjured from thin air.
The butler’s expression darkened, his attitude turning distinctly cold toward the couple who called themselves the young master’s aunt and uncle.
"This way, please."
Fu Yuchen didn’t even spare a glance for the woman, whose face was contorted with fury.
He carried his sister upstairs without another word.
Just as his tall figure was about to vanish around the corner, the woman below shrieked, "Fu Yuchen! Aren’t you afraid I’ll expose your misdeeds online and ruin your reputation?"
The young man’s footsteps paused briefly on the stairs.
Seeing this, the woman’s face twisted in triumph.
She waited for him to plead with her—or better yet, to extort more money from him.
But just as she was gloating, the slender figure, still with its back to her, completely disappeared around the corner.
The young man simply couldn’t be bothered with her. Their entire visit had been nothing more than a pathetic farce, a brief moment of arrogance before being utterly crushed by Fu Yuchen, leaving them unable to even lift their heads.
Before the smugness could fade from her face, the woman’s expression contorted into a snarl once more.
The butler’s expression grew even sterner, his tone turning rigid. "If you do not leave now, I will be forced to contact security."
On their way in, the woman had noticed the formidable security of the sprawling Fu estate—guards stationed every few steps, making it impossible for even a fly to slip through unnoticed.
The thought of those towering security personnel made her swallow hard. With a resentful scowl, she turned and stomped off, not even bothering to wait for her husband.
Back in his room, the little dumpling still clung tightly to her second brother.
Seated cross-legged on the carpet, she sat in his lap, her small hands wrapped around his waist as she gently patted his back.
"Second Brother, don’t cry. Zhi Zhi will protect Second Brother."
"Mommy said, what goes around comes around. Bad people always get their comeuppance."
"Zhi Zhi is with Second Brother. Second Brother, be good."
Fu Yuchen had originally planned to distract her by showing her the little fat fish, hoping she’d forget the scene from earlier.
But once they entered the room, she refused to let go.
Used to processing his emotions alone, Fu Yuchen found himself once again soothed by his little sister, who barely reached his thigh.
He lowered his head and ruffled her soft hair, a wry smile playing on his lips. "Second Brother isn’t crying. And Zhi Zhi even knows the saying ‘what goes around comes around,’ huh?"
Hearing his voice, the little dumpling lifted her head and nodded eagerly. "Mm! Mommy said everything comes down to karma. Bad people have no good fortune—they’ll definitely get what they deserve."
It was hard to believe a three-year-old could utter such words.
Fu Yuchen suddenly realized his adorable little sister wasn’t entirely an angel.
She was better than adults at discerning people’s character. With good people, she was generous and well-behaved.
With bad people, she would wrinkle her little face, unwilling to give them even a pleasant look.
A smile touched his lips as Fu Yuchen pinched his sister’s soft, tender cheek. "Zhi Zhi is so clever, knowing so much."
The little dumpling, having received praise, made no effort to hide her pride.
She lifted her chin, exposing her little neck. "Yes, yes! Zhi Zhi is so clever! Zhi Zhi can protect Second Brother!"
Hugging him tightly around the waist, the little dumpling buried her head in his chest and gently rubbed against him. "Second Brother, don’t cry. Zhi Zhi will stay with Second Brother."
In the little dumpling’s mind, crying was synonymous with sadness.
Her soft, simple comforting words were the most potent balm for Fu Yuchen’s wounds.
He continued to gently pat his sister’s back, a smile playing on his lips, saying nothing more.
But that afternoon, as Fu Yuchen was putting his sister down for a nap, a sudden phone call interrupted the tender moment between the siblings.
Seeing the caller ID, a vein throbbed in Fu Yuchen’s temple.
"Hello, Big Brother?"
On the other end, Fu Jingyi’s voice was heavy with displeasure. "Yuchen, did they... come looking for you?"
The identity of 'they' was mutually understood between the two brothers.
Fu Yuchen glanced down at his little sister, who was fast asleep, clinging to his arm.
He murmured in reply, then carefully withdrew his arm from her embrace and left the room.
"What did they say? Did they want you to go back with them?"
Fu Jingyi's tone was noticeably tense as he spoke.
As the eldest of the three brothers, Fu Jingyi had spent years mediating the relationship between his second and youngest brothers.
Being the firstborn, he had invested far more effort into this family than his younger siblings.
So when he learned that Fu Yuchen's biological parents had sent people, he immediately contacted Fu Yuchen.
"Yuchen, we all respect your decision. If you truly wish to return, the Fu family will always keep your room for you."
The underlying meaning was that the Fu family would always have a place for Fu Yuchen—he could return anytime.
Leaning against the corridor railing, Fu Yuchen listened to his elder brother's words, a slight smile playing on his lips. "They said if I don’t go with them, I can stay with the Fu family—if I pay them five million."
Fu Jingyi responded instantly, "Five million? I’ll have Chen Shi wire the money immediately—"
"Elder brother, do you truly think I’m some defenseless lamb to be slaughtered?"
Fu Yuchen interrupted Fu Jingyi, his gaze lingering over the second-floor corridor of the Fu residence.
Sixteen years—from the moment he could remember, he had learned to crawl, then walk, then run and jump, and speak his first words right here in this hallway.
Even if their father had always been unreliable, it was only here that he had ever felt the warmth of 'home.'
Fu Jingyi gave an awkward laugh. "I just worry you might be in over your head. After all, you’re still young..."
Fu Yuchen chuckled. "Elder brother, you’re just two years older than me. If you can handle it, so can I."
Turning to look at the empty main hall downstairs, Fu Yuchen added, "After all, Father always said, 'A tiger father does not beget a dog son.'"
