Chapter 183: High school sports day
byChapter 183: The Senior Year Sports Meet
No. 1 High School, nestled in the heart of Beijing, offers a tranquil retreat amidst the city's hustle and bustle, boasting an expansive campus.
The sports meets for the three high school grades are held in separate venues.
Having just commenced the new semester, senior students find themselves burdened by an intense academic workload, compelling them to immerse themselves in serious study.
Yet, at heart, they remain boisterous teenagers, seizing every spare moment to unleash their true selves.
This sports meet stands as one of the few collective activities for the senior class. With exam papers set aside and the usual somber atmosphere lifted, the entire school is enveloped in a joyous spirit.
In the senior experimental class, every student arrived accompanied by their parents—save for the two conspicuously vacant seats at the very back. Were it not for the stack of textbooks and exam papers on one of the desks, one might assume the seats were unoccupied.
As the assembly time drew near, Fu Siyuan remained absent. Many students frequently glanced toward the back of the classroom, and soon, parents also noticed the empty desk.
"Isn't there an exceptionally talented boy in the experimental class? The one who won a design award at 14? Sweetie, which classmate is that? Is he competing too?"
"That boy is remarkable—he's the third young master of the Fu family and even aced the last monthly exam. Son, you should really learn from him."
"I saw that boy when I dropped off supplies on orientation day. Why isn't he here today?"
Once one parent voiced the question, others followed suit.
Hearing the murmurs about Fu Siyuan, all eyes immediately turned either to their own children or toward the back of the classroom.
The class monitor frowned at the empty seat. When his mother inquired, he nodded. "He registered for the dash, but he hasn't arrived yet."
The sprint was scheduled for the first morning. Would Fu Siyuan truly be a no-show?
Just as the thought crossed his mind, the PA system up front announced for students and parents to proceed to the field.
A flurry of footsteps echoed through the building as everyone took their positions. After the principal's address concluded, the sports meet officially began with the firing of the starter pistol.
"Monitor, where's Classmate Fu? Did anyone call him? Is he sick?"
"Yeah, monitor, Fu Siyuan has never been late before. Did something happen on the way?"
"Teacher Yan, did Fu Siyuan contact you?"
Seated on the field, the students of the experimental class fidgeted restlessly, as if sitting on thumbtacks.
They kept anxiously scanning the field entrance, worried Fu Siyuan might miss his registered sprint event.
The rousing sports anthem had played several rounds already. Just as the first event—the girls’ 800-meter race—was about to begin, one of the participating girls looked on the verge of tears.
"Zhi Zhi promised she'd be my cheerleader. Why isn’t she here yet?"
Indeed, the students weren’t just concerned about Fu Siyuan’s absence—they also longed to see that tiny figure cheering them on during their events.
The parents were completely lost.
Their children only came home twice a month, each time for just a brief half-day to eat and rest before returning to their studies.
There's some kid named "Zhi Zhi" in the experimental class? They’d never heard of her.
Just as the announcement called for the girls’ 800-meter participants to proceed to the track, a sudden commotion erupted around them.
"Holy crap! Is this a sports meet or a beauty contest? Weren’t we supposed to bring just one parent? Why did that family bring the whole damn clan?"
"Ahhh! It’s the Fu family—the genius Fu Siyuan’s brothers and parents! And that’s my baby girl in his arms!"
"An entire family of drop-dead gorgeous people, loaded, powerful and easy on the eyes? That’s just an unfair advantage!"
"Is that woman next to Fu Siyuan’s dad his mom? She looks so young and stunning—is she in showbiz? Why have I never seen her before?"
"Hey gorgeous, marry me!"
......
The uproar wasn’t limited to the stands. Even the student broadcasters, upon spotting the family of six entering, accidentally triggered an ear-splitting feedback over the speakers.
Below the stands, Fu Siyuan stormed toward his class.
The gasps around him only deepened his scowl.
Glancing back at his two brothers and parents, he muttered, "Did you all collude on this? Did you really all have to come at once?"
Fu Siyuan had indeed overslept that morning.
He’d completely forgotten about the sports meet, hastily threw on his uniform and scooped up his sister, still working on breakfast, before dashing out.
At the school gate, however, he found the family’s other cars parked nearby.
His two brothers—who’d sworn they were too busy—were waiting for him at the entrance.
Before he could ask why they’d suddenly freed up their schedules, another car pulled up beside him, and out stepped his father with Qing Zhi in his arms.
The sight of all six family members standing together at the gate left even the security guard too stunned to even open the gate.
Though he’d anticipated his classmates’ reactions to bringing his entire entourage, Fu Siyuan’s heart still skipped a beat at their astonished cries.
Zhi Zhi, however, never stopped beaming the whole time.
Draping her arms around her third brother's neck, she rested her head on his shoulder, beaming at her parents and brothers.
Amid the noisy field, Fu Cheng still caught his youngest son’s grumbling.
With a smirk, he ruffled Fu Siyuan’s short hair. "Still so tsundere? If you’re happy, just smile. I owe you all a lot, but I won’t make the same mistakes again. Come on, give your old man a grin."
Fu Siyuan’s hair was now a mess.
Suppressing a smile, he dodged his father’s hand. "Childish."
Fu Jingyi, having grown up fast and attended advanced programs, had never experienced a regular school sports meet. Watching the energetic students now, he couldn’t help but smile warmly.
Qing Zhi, on the other hand, was experiencing a human school for the first time.
Her already bright eyes sparkled with curiosity.
When a whistle sounded above her, she looked up to see two uniformed students waving excitedly at her.
"Hey, beautiful! Can we get your number?!"
Fu Cheng’s smile vanished instantly.
Wrapping an arm possessively around her waist, he glared up at the two boys with a dark gaze.
"I shouldn’t have brought you. These brats are at that hormone-crazed age..."
Grumbling, he exhaled sharply before pressing a firm kiss to her lips.
The onlooking students erupted into cheers and blushes.
Fu Yuchen, observing the scene, adjusted his glasses. Noticing someone aiming a camera from the stands, he smirked. "Look up."
As the family of six lifted their heads, the heartwarming moment was frozen in time.
