Chapter 87 Learned to Hit People Now
by 岁晚困了Chapter 87: Even Learned to Hit People
A lucky snow fell on the first day of the Lunar New Year. Winter passed and spring arrived, the smell of fresh snow still in the air, and before you knew it, it was summer again.
"Did your aunt call again?" Shen Ci, seated at a brand-new oversized vanity table, was doing his eyebrows in the mirror while chatting with Shen Shiyan, who had just hung up the phone.
"Yeah, she's been calling more often lately, every three to five days." Shen Shiyan sat down on a chair beside him. "Which character is it this time?"
Shen Ci finished the last stroke of his lower lashes, grabbed his phone, found the character's picture, and handed it to Shen Shiyan. "Here, a super dominant alpha from an ancient setting!"
Shen Shiyan: "..."
"I'm not really suited for this role—his build is way better than mine—but a lot of fans want to see it, so I'll cosplay him." Shen Ci didn't catch Shen Shiyan's expression, grabbed his phone back and tossed it on the table, and moved on to the next step.
Shen Ci was running his own social media account now, with pretty good traffic. Over the past six months, he'd posted four videos and racked up nearly 200,000 followers.
"Is that the costume?" Shen Shiyan pointed to a set of ink-black robes and a pile of silver accessories hanging on a nearby rack.
"Yeah, does it not suit me?" Shen Ci painted a teardrop mole under his eye.
Shen Shiyan frowned. "What's that transparent thing?"
Shen Ci got up from the vanity, leaned in close to Shen Shiyan, and asked, "Am I dominant enough?"
"..." Shen Shiyan leaned back a bit. Shen Ci's makeup skills were impressive—his face now looked 70-80% like the picture, though it clashed with his current pajamas. He nodded. "Dominant..."
Super satisfied, Shen Ci got up, walked to the rack, and quickly stripped off his loose pajamas, so fast Shen Shiyan didn't even react.
He picked up one of those transparent pads Shen Shiyan had asked about, stuck it on his right shoulder, and turned his head to say, "It's a shoulder pad, d-ddy."
Shen Shiyan looked away, not looking at Shen Ci's body.
"Mm, turn the AC lower during the shoot. The outfit's thick; if you wear it too long, you'll get a rash." Shen Shiyan stood up and walked out, but still worried, he turned down the AC in both the living room and the dressing room.
Shen Ci watched Shen Shiyan's back while getting dressed, pinching his own shoulder to compare.
D-ddy's shoulders are so wide.
His gaze drifted down.
And his waist is so slim.
Shen Ci gulped, put on all his accessories one by one, and dragged the tripod into the living room with a clatter.
After he got into this hobby, Shen Ci wanted to use the white wall behind the couch as a backdrop, so Shen Shiyan rearranged the living room. The original couch was moved to the other side, and one set was removed to make more space, making the room feel bigger.
Shen Shiyan worked in his study, listening to the jingling of Shen Ci's bells for four hours.
After the shoot, he still had to edit and cut the video. Shen Ci took off his makeup and curled up on the couch, picking filters.
"Eat first." Shen Shiyan came out of the kitchen.
"Okay." Shen Ci obediently got off the couch, but his eyes were still glued to his phone screen, his thumb swiping across the screen.
"Put on your shoes."
Before Shen Ci could take a step, Shen Shiyan was already in front of him, bending down to put the slippers Shen Ci had left by the bathroom door at his feet.
"Forgot again." Shen Ci gave Shen Shiyan a sheepish smile, then walked to the table and sat down.
Shen Ci ate slowly while editing on his phone, and Shen Shiyan didn't rush him. He reheated the dishes that had cooled down and swapped out half a bowl of cold rice for a hot one.
Over the years, Shen Ci had grown used to Shen Shiyan taking care of him like this, enjoying it without a second thought. He looked up at Shen Shiyan, who was tidying up the props, camera, and clothes he'd used, and said, "Thanks, d-ddy."
Shooting was tiring. Shen Ci showered and was in bed before nine, lying on his side, replying to fan comments one by one.
Shen Shiyan walked back into the bedroom from the bathroom, drying his hair. Shen Ci had already fallen asleep with his phone in hand, the screen still lit, casting a glow on the lower half of his face.
Walking softly, Shen Shiyan slowly pulled the phone from Shen Ci's hand. He glanced at the comments section, filled with "hubby," "wife," and heart emojis, and coldly hit the power button.
Maybe because he'd been leaning over too long, or maybe because the dampness of his wet hair caught Shen Ci's attention, the person in bed fluttered his lashes and opened his eyes. Startled by the face so close to him, he instinctively reached out and slapped him.
A weak slap hit Shen Shiyan's left cheek, and a drop of water from his wet hair fell onto Shen Ci's hand.
"D-ddy!" Shen Ci snapped awake, realizing what he'd just done. He quickly reached out to touch the spot he'd hit, but Shen Shiyan caught his wrist.
Shen Shiyan's palm was warm, and he applied a bit of force, making Shen Ci's wrist heat up quickly.
"Not just throwing tantrums anymore," Shen Shiyan said, looking into Shen Ci's eyes. "Now you've learned to hit people."
"No way, you scared me." Shen Ci struggled but couldn't break free. Seeing that Shen Shiyan had no intention of letting go, Shen Ci grabbed Shen Shiyan's other hand with his free one and yanked him onto the bed.
After all, he was 1.8 meters tall and had some strength. Shen Shiyan was a bit stunned and was about to get up when he heard Shen Ci's pitiful voice.
"It hurts."
Shen Shiyan immediately let go of his wrist, gently rubbing it with his fingertips, frowning. "If it hurts, why did you pull me?"
"D-ddy, I didn't mean to hit you." Shen Ci scooted back to make room for Shen Shiyan, but Shen Shiyan seemed to have no intention of lying down on his bed. He stood up from the edge.
"I know. I'm not mad." Shen Shiyan picked up a towel and wiped his hair a couple of times. "You have class tomorrow, go back to sleep."
Shen Ci's "goodnight" was drowned out by the sound of the shower running in the bathroom.
Beside the school playground was a tree-lined path. The wind billowed their short-sleeved uniforms, and the sound of skateboards scraping against the ground came and went.
"Getting rusty, Secretary Shen!" Song Qiuchi's voice was crisp as she took the lead, a short distance ahead of Shen Ci.
Shen Ci pushed off with one foot, his long legs gracefully stepping onto the board, quickly catching up. His hair flew back, full of youthful spirit. "Giving you a three-point head start, Boss Song!"
The skateboard competition ended at the tail end of PE class. The two rested on a bench in a secluded little green park on campus, where few people passed by. Shen Ci was lightly sweating and casually wiped his neck with the back of his hand.
"How was the copy I came up with yesterday?" Song Qiuchi pulled a tissue from her pocket to wipe the small water droplets on her soda bottle.
"What do you think?" Shen Ci tilted his head back, took two gulps of room-temperature water, and gave Song Qiuchi a thumbs-up. "A total trending topic."
Song Qiuchi let down her high ponytail, retied it, and shook her head. "Are you going to that convention next month? I'll be your photographer."
"Bought a new camera again?" Shen Ci leaned back against the wooden bench, tilting his head back, stretching his upper body. "But that convention seems to be around the midterms, right? I need to study."
Song Qiuchi checked the time—less than five minutes until the bell rang. "Yeah, a new telephoto lens."
Calculating the timing, she added, "Looks like it's on the same day as the midterms."
"Then I won't have time to go." Shen Ci felt a bit of blood rush to his head. As he straightened up, the bushes behind him rustled with leaves. He twisted around, leaning over the bench's edge, catching the faint floral scent of the magnolia tree.
"Just for a while." A male voice, slightly breathless, came from within the layered magnolia bushes, barely audible.
Song Qiuchi immediately caught the scent of gossip. She leaned over too, perking up her ears alongside Shen Ci.
"Are we gonna get caught?" a shy female voice trembled, tinged with the fear of being discovered.
"Don't worry, baby, no one's around here..." The rest was too muffled to hear. Shen Ci zeroed in on the sound and spotted two legs pressed tightly together behind a low magnolia tree trunk at a diagonal angle, their upper bodies hidden by green leaves.
Neither of them moved, frozen in place so they wouldn't scare the young couple in their secret romance.
Time crawled by. Shen Ci heard the boy's voice again, "Baby, your mole is so sexy..."
The school bell rang across campus, and after the brief burst of noise, the campus paths quickly grew lively, with groups of people bustling back and forth. The young couple had long since blended into the crowd.
