Chapter 073: The New Son-in-Law's Visit

    The Gu Family.

Upon receiving the news, Elder Brother Gu and his wife, Sister-in-law Gu, were both at home today. Such news would be shocking for any family, and they worried that their younger sister might have been scammed.

However, the parents were extremely excited. They got up early in the morning, instructing the household staff to clean the house thoroughly, prepare a lavish feast, and stock up on toys and snacks that children would love.

Once everything was ready, they had nothing to do but stare eagerly at the door, waiting. As time passed and no one arrived, they grew restless, pacing back and forth.

Brother Gu, getting dizzy from watching them pace, said helplessly, "Mom, Dad, it's still early. You don't need to be so anxious."

"It's already 11. Why aren't they here yet? Hurry up and call them." Father Gu's eyes were fixed on the door, but his urging was directed at Brother Gu.

"...Little Sister said they'd be here around 12 o'clock. There's still an hour left." Brother Gu had just asked about their whereabouts a little over ten minutes ago; they were still on the way.

"As long as they show up, punctuality doesn't matter." Father Gu couldn't wait to see his precious grandchildren, growing increasingly impatient.

Mother Gu was also worried. She looked at the gifts, hesitating, "I wonder if the two children will like these."

"Mom, you bought them according to Little Sister's preferences, so they're sure to like them." Sister-in-law Gu said with a smile, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders too.

She and her husband had been married for three years without having children. It wasn't that they didn't want any—she was busy with her company and it wouldn't stabilize for about another year. She planned to take a break then; she wasn't superhuman. After resting, she would consider having children.

Even though her in-laws had never pressured them or pushed for children, saying to just go with the flow, she knew they yearned for grandchildren. She could understand that—it was only natural for the older generation. When you're young, you say kids will have their own blessings, but as age sets in, that desire almost always appears.

Now that Little Sister's marriage was settled and she had children, the parents no longer had to worry about that. They could pour all their attention onto the grandchildren.

Look how happy the two elders were! They seemed to have shed years this morning. They even thought the birds chirping were magpies—a lucky sign.

"Kids have short attention spans. They get bored with a toy in two minutes. If they don't like any, we'll just buy new ones." Mother Gu didn't mind spending; she just wanted the grandkids happy.

Their home was a detached villa. The guest room on the first floor had been converted into a toy room overnight.

After a while, hearing the sound of a car outside, Mother Gu and Father Gu's eyes lit up.

"They're here! They're here!" Father Gu, dressed up today, looked like a handsome, refined middle-aged man. Mother Gu stood beside him in a qipao, a perfect match even in their old age.

They had both been good-looking when young, and it still showed. Otherwise, the two children they raised wouldn't have turned out to be such good-looking kids.

    Outside.

Gu Pushu got out of the car and saw her parents, brother, and sister-in-law waiting. She smiled and greeted them.

"Where are Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan?" Oh, Father Gu was already showing favoritism, only wanting to see the grandchildren.

Those were the children's nicknames: the elder brother was Tuan Tuan, and the younger sister was Yuan Yuan.

    "Grandpa!"

The siblings climbed out of the car on their own, unafraid of strangers, and ran up to Grandpa with a sweet smile.

"Oh, my Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan! Come, come, let's go home with Grandpa." Father Gu beamed, taking one child by each hand and leading them inside.

As for Yin Zhu, he was already completely ignored.

When Brother Gu saw Yin Zhu, he was already impressed just by his looks.

Mother Gu, on the other hand, looked at her son-in-law, growing more pleased the longer she looked. Although she had seen him in video calls and knew from photos that he was a very handsome young man—matching her daughter in looks—seeing him in person was even more impressive.

"Mom, Brother, Sister-in-law." Yin Zhu greeted them politely, not at all awkward about being way older than them.

"It's good to have you home." Mother Gu smiled, pleased.

She walked ahead with Gu Pushu, while Sister-in-law Gu walked alongside, chatting and laughing.

Yin Zhu and Brother Gu walked side by side behind, talking casually. Things were totally relaxed between them.

The whole "new son-in-law jitters" never happened. They got along well, and the household atmosphere was warm and cozy.

To explain the sudden kids, they used Yin Zhu's story, taking all the blame and responsibility upon himself. He said he messed up, so Pushu left. He had spent the past two years seeking forgiveness. Now, reunited, the family of four was harmonious and happy, hence their return.

However, her mother scolded Gu Pushu privately: "How could you keep something this big from us? And you have kids now! As long as it wasn't a breach of principle, just a difference in lifestyle, a couple should sit down and communicate properly instead of acting willfully and running away without a word. That lacks responsibility and is no way for a parent to act."

What could Gu Pushu do? She had no choice but to bite her tongue, obediently admit her mistake, and promise to change.

    As for the wedding:

Gu Pushu was the only one who said she didn't want a wedding. Even the kids insisted on a wedding, and a huge one at that.

Before that, they needed to get their marriage certificate.

That evening, the two little ones slept with the grandparents, without a single tear or tantrum about leaving Mom and Dad.

Mother Gu had already given her the family household registration booklet. But Gu Pushu had a question: "If we're going to get the certificate, do you have an identification card?"

With Yin Zhu's abilities—he had been in a deep sleep for a long time and rarely appeared—it was anyone's guess if he even had an ID. She had forgotten to ask before.

After all, he didn't need tickets to go anywhere; he could teleport in the blink of an eye.

"Yes, I have one." Yin Zhu nodded, pulling it out of his pocket and handing it to her. "The wolf demon from the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs helped me get a replacement not long ago."

He knew that humans needed ID cards to register for marriage certificates, so he had naturally prepared one.

"How come your ID picture looks like a model shot?" Gu Pushu got so jealous after seeing it.

Her own wasn't ugly—she's a classic beauty—but compared to Yin Zhu's photo, which seemed to have a built-in beauty filter, she wanted one too.

"Maybe because the method of taking it is different?" As they grew closer, Gu Pushu showed more of her playful side. Yin Zhu gently hooked his finger around hers. "But in my eyes, you are the most beautiful—far more beautiful than I am."

His taste was normal; he really didn't think much of his own face. What he was most proud of was his real form. As for looks, his wife was certainly the best-looking, incomparable in every way. There's a saying among humans: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

"You're laying it on thick today, buttering me up. But there's no reward. If the family hears any commotion, I won't be able to show my face tomorrow." Gu Pushu felt good—everyone loves compliments. Humans are vain, some more, some less, or perhaps in different aspects.

Yin Zhu wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her into his embrace, and rested his forehead against hers. "I have no such intentions. On the contrary, you're the one explaining so eagerly—could it be that you have ideas?"

"Get off me. You're the one with ideas." Gu Pushu pushed him away, gathered her clothes, and headed into the bathroom.

Yin Zhu followed behind and closed the door.

Soon, the shower was running loudly.

    ·

The older generation seemed to be obsessed with choosing auspicious dates.

Gu Pushu originally wanted to pick any random weekday to get the certificate, but her parents disagreed. They insisted on consulting a fortune-teller to pick a lucky day, and also set the wedding date.

With that matter left to her parents, Pushu's family stayed for a few more days before heading home.

It wasn't far, just a neighboring city, a four- to five-hour drive.

But just as they were about to arrive home, a vortex suddenly appeared in front of them. Unable to avoid it, their car drove straight in and vanished.
