Chapter 157: The Sickly Fake Young Master Doted On by the Real One 52

"Is that so... Then where did my brother go? Why haven't I seen him since early morning?"
"I wouldn't know, sir."
Lin Huaiqing figured Qin Li was still mad and had ducked out to avoid him, so he decided to go find him after breakfast and give him an out.
But right as he finished breakfast, Chu Mo showed up at his door on her own, carrying a bowl of freshly brewed herbal medicine.
"Come, drink this. Not a single drop, got it?"
"What's this medicine?" He remembered already having a bowl after waking up, plus some fresh ginseng tea. Why another one now?
And Chu Mo had brought it to him herself.
Chu Mo winked at Lin Huaiqing playfully and promised, "Don't worry about that. Just drink this, and I promise you'll be good as new!"
"Uh..." Lin Huaiqing hesitated. Sure, the female lead knew medicine, but her specialty was antidotes and breaking curses.
In the original story, Qin Li got cursed by a business rival, which gave him that weird illness. The female lead broke the curse for him—right up her alley.
But his illness was congenital—there was no fixing it. How could any medicine cure that?
Still, seeing how confident she was, Lin Huaiqing didn't want to burst her bubble. Might as well try anything at this point!
Lin Huaiqing nodded and downed the whole bowl without much hesitation.
The medicine tasted weird, to say the least. Besides the usual bitter herbal taste, there was a hint of blood.
All in all, it was pretty nasty.
After chugging some water, Lin Huaiqing frowned and said, "Thanks for your concern, Miss Chu."
"Don't thank me. The one you should really thank is..."
For some reason, after taking the medicine, the drowsiness that had just worn off came rushing back.
He was so sleepy he could barely hear what Chu Mo, sitting across from him, was saying. All he caught was something about Qin Li, something about medicine...
His eyelids felt glued shut—no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't keep them open.
Seeing this, Chu Mo knew the medicine had kicked in. She quickly called the servants in from outside.
"Xiao Gui! Your master's sleepy. Help him to bed."
"Huh? Didn't Third Master just wake up? Why's he sleepy again?"
Together, they helped Lin Huaiqing into bed and tucked him in.
Half-asleep, he had no idea how long he'd been out. When he woke up again, it was already dark out.
Trying to remember what happened before he passed out—Chu Mo had come by and made him drink that medicine, and then he couldn't keep his eyes open.
Was it a sleeping pill? He hadn't done anything all day—why was it dark already?
Feeling his way out of bed to light the lamp, Lin Huaiqing was amazed to find the medicine actually seemed to work.
Aside from being a bit groggy from sleeping so long, his body felt much lighter.
Even the heavy weight on his chest seemed gone.
He could breathe easy, walk without getting winded, and he even felt a burst of energy?!
Thank you so much, Doc Chu!
A miracle worker! This female lead's a miracle worker!
Curious, Lin Huaiqing poked and prodded himself, happily getting used to the changes.
"Qin Li? Qin Li!" Lin Huaiqing called out, wanting to share his joy, but the guy still wasn't back.
It was already this late—why wasn't he back? Was he really that mad?
Lin Huaiqing quickly threw on his clothes to go find him, but before he could even step out, he ran straight into Chu Mo.
"Ah! Miss Chu! I was just about to come find you! What kind of miracle medicine is this? After drinking it, I actually feel way better. Any side effects? Do I need to drink it every day?"
He fired off question after question, but Chu Mo just smiled and said:
"No need to drink it daily. After tonight, you'll be just like anyone else. Only, your lifespan will be a bit shorter."
"How's that possible?! Miss Chu, are you messing with me? I... wasn't I already a lost cause?"
In his mind, the stronger the medicine, the worse the side effects.
He'd thought the medicine was just a last-ditch rally, but he never expected it to be a real miracle cure.
"It's fine. You'll understand soon enough—I really didn't lie to you." A faint smile lingered on Chu Mo's face, but a flicker of pity crossed her eyes.
Was he seeing things? Or was Chu Mo hiding something?
"Then I'll thank you here, Miss Chu." Either way, Lin Huaiqing bowed to her. "By the way, do you know where Qin Li went, Miss Chu? I haven't seen him since this morning."
If he didn't know where Qin Li was, maybe only Chu Mo did.
At the mention of Qin Li, Chu Mo got evasive. She wasn't good at lying—or rather, her lies were painfully obvious.
It was obvious she knew something but didn't want to say.
"I really don't know. Stop asking. It's getting late—I gotta go!" Seeing she couldn't talk her way out of it, Chu Mo tried to leave, but Lin Huaiqing stopped her.
"Miss Chu, wait. There's something I'm not sure I should say. Actually, I'm not the obstacle between you and Qin Li. I'm not trying to get in your way, it's just..."
It's just that no matter what, the plot wouldn't change—Lin Cheng was the male lead.
Before he could finish, Chu Mo shot him an incredulous look.
It actually carried a fair bit of anger too.
"Young Master Lin, what are you talking about?! What do I have to do with Qin Li? There's nothing between us—don't go spreading rumors!"
"..." So was Qin Li the one pestering Chu Mo?
"Is that so... Then I must've misunderstood. My apologies. I just saw you two together every day lately, so I thought..."
"You... Enough! You don't understand anything! And I'm not the one you should be apologizing to. You shouldn't doubt how Qin Li feels about you."
Lin Huaiqing scratched his head.
Everything was a mess, a total mess. What the hell was going on here?
"Then, Miss Chu, could you tell me where Qin Li is now?"
Chu Mo was clearly starting to get annoyed. "Fine, I'll tell you—it's no skin off my nose. When you step out of the Lin house, take a right, there's an inn, and the room at the far end of the second floor. Qin Li is there. Whatever questions you have, you'll understand once you see him."
"Thank you!" He just knew Chu Mo had to know where Qin Li was—why didn't she just say so sooner?
Without another word, Lin Huaiqing headed out, turned right, and walked with a light, quick step, his demeanor totally calm and collected, showing no sign of illness at all.
"Hey there! You stopping for a bite or a bed?"
"I'm looking for someone!" Lin Huaiqing brushed past the waiter and went straight up to the second floor, finding the innermost room Chu Mo had mentioned.
Before he even pushed the door open, Lin Huaiqing heard a pained groan coming from inside.
He didn't dare force his way in, so he stood outside and knocked. "Qin Li? Are you in there?"
