"How do you know about Lin Yanyan? Did you really send someone to spy on me?!"

Qin Fan somewhat regretted his impulsive outburst that had accidentally given himself away.

He might not look all that smart, but he's quick on the uptake.

"Regardless, what's the big deal in letting him have this jade bracelet? Don't tell me you can't tell it's worth three million at most. Your Lin family may be wealthy, but that's no reason to blow money like this."

"Who do you think you are, telling me what to do?! I wanted that bracelet, and I don't give a damn if it's worth anything!"

Qin Fan cast his eyes down, carefully studying the complex expression on Lin Huaiqing's face.

He seemed to read something in it.

"You don't want the bracelet—you just want to mess with my brother! Why? You've been like this since school, and you still haven't let it go?"

Caught off guard, Lin Huaiqing felt a flash of guilt, but he covered it up fast.

Arching a brow, he tilted his head and shot back, "So what if I do?"

But Qin Fan's face turned cold, as if a thought had just hit him.

"You've always been like this. Whatever my brother does, you have to butt in..."

Lin Huaiqing thought Qin Fan was defending his brother, but then:

"You're not secretly in love with him, are you?"

Lin Huaiqing: "!!!"

"Are you out of your mind? Me, in love with your brother? I'd rather grind him into the dirt! Back in school, he always put on that 'stay away from me' act—who was he trying to show off for?"

Whether it was his imagination or not, Lin Huaiqing felt Qin Fan let out an odd sigh of relief.

"Good, that's a relief. But I'm still telling you: stay away from Qin Feng, and Lu Yuting too."

"Are you gonna say 'and stay away from me too' next? What, you dumped Lu Yuting way back when—are you trying to get back together with her?"

Qin Fan wanted to explain, but seeing that the auction was wrapping up and more people were drifting into the backstage area, he had to let it go.

"She's way more complicated than you think."

Leaving it at that, Qin Fan went to find Qin Feng.

Lin Huaiqing racked his brain but couldn't work out whether the "she" Qin Fan mentioned referred to Lu Yuting or Qin Feng.

Either way, Qin Feng was definitely not someone to mess with.

Although the mission to secure the jade bracelet had failed, at least Qin Feng must have held a grudge.

After all, the bracelet originally worth three million had doubled in price thanks to him butting in. The extra four million might not mean much to the Qin family, but given the male lead's personality of repaying both favors and grudges, he'd definitely be keeping score.

"This necklace is mediocre in quality. Giving it to Grandma doesn't fit her status."

"It'd be perfect for your mom."

Xue Chengan was speechless.

Seeing Xue Chengan barely holding back an eye roll, Lin Huaiqing returned to the company feeling satisfied.

As soon as he reached the office, he saw a large pile of documents on Uncle Wang's desk waiting to be dealt with.

The two sat side by side on the sofa, waiting for Uncle Wang's instructions.

On the table, one document caught Lin Huaiqing's eye.

The document was titled: "Lover's Island Tourist Resort Development Project Proposal."

If he remembered correctly, this Lover's Island development project was the key point that pushed the story forward.

The rivalry between the Lin and Qin families started to heat up with this project.

"Uncle Wang, the Qin Group is also bidding on this project. Are we going up against them?"

Before Lin Huaiqing could speak, Xue Chengan beside him started giving his two cents.

He could understand the eagerness to impress the adults. Besides, Xue Chengan was asking exactly what he wanted to know.

"Young Master Chengan is right. Chairman Lin really cares about the Lover's Island project. It's one of the most promising projects the company has taken on in recent years. The Qin Group has been eyeing this prize for a while. Securing it won't be easy."

Xue Chengan sat nearby, deep in thought.

"Oh! By the way, cousin, wasn't that the Qin family's second young master sitting next to you earlier? You two seemed pretty close. Why don't you ask him if the Qin Group could back out of the bidding?"

"Huaiqing, you're close with Qin Fan?"

Lin Huaiqing said helplessly, "We're just classmates. He's as annoying as his brother. Who's close with him?!"

"I saw you two going backstage to talk, so I figured you two were tight."

This kid was clearly trying to throw him under the bus in front of Uncle Wang!

Then a message from his friend Yu Wenle popped up on his screen.

"Young Master Lin! Come out and party! There's a new bar near the university town. I heard even the waitresses are college girls. You down or what?"

Lin Huaiqing was too tired to even lift a finger, so naturally, he didn't want to go.

The bar was near the capital's university town, and he'd heard the owner was someone from their circle.

Unsurprisingly, the area was crawling with college students, and the owner had cashed in on that, pulling in a steady stream of curious customers.

"Huaiqing, you made it! Grab a seat!"

Lin Huaiqing had arrived early—the bar had just opened, and people were already lining up outside. Luckily, they knew the owner, so they'd already scored a reserved spot.
