Chapter 72 Forced Love from My Archrival 21

Gu Chengyun also clearly recognized Lin Huaiqing at a glance, his face flushed a dark red, and he couldn't meet Lin Huaiqing's eyes.
"Why are you here? Where's Yu Wenle?"
Gu Chengyun reluctantly stepped aside and let Lin Huaiqing in, then called out toward the bedroom:
"Your best buddy's here to see you."
Maybe it was just his imagination, but Lin Huaiqing could've sworn he heard a hint of jealousy in that.
Lin Huaiqing sat down on the living room sofa. From the bedroom came the sound of fabric rustling against skin. After a while, Yu Wenle finally emerged, his cheeks slightly flushed.
From the bedroom to the living room, his steps were unsteady, his balance off—a dead giveaway he'd been overindulging.
"You two hang tight. I'm gonna run downstairs to grab something."
"Sure! Go ahead!"
Once he heard the door click shut, Lin Huaiqing turned to Yu Wenle in disbelief.
"No way. When did you two get together? How did I not know about this?"
Yu Wenle sprawled out on the sofa, lit a cigarette with practiced ease, and started puffing away.
"Huh, is it that obvious?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Even a blind man could see it.
"Hey... it's a long story. Anyway, I heard something went down with your family. Is it bad?"
"Ugh... it's a bit of a mess. Normally I wouldn't come to you for this..."
"How much you need?"
Before Lin Huaiqing even had to spell it out, Yu Wenle asked on his own.
He knew that in this world, money could fix most problems. Since Lin Huaiqing had brought it up, how could he say no?
"I'm short forty million."
"What?!" That number made Yu Wenle practically leap off the sofa. "Lin Huaiqing, be real with me—are you gambling or something? Forty million? Are you trying to take down a whole rich family or what?!"
Lin Huaiqing knew it was a huge amount, and he hadn't planned on bleeding Yu Wenle dry all by himself.
"I wasn't gonna ask you for that much anyway. Just lend me whatever you've got, and I swear I'll pay you back. We'll write up an IOU!"
Yu Wenle took a long drag, crushed out his cigarette in the ashtray, and got up to make a call.
When he came back, he had a check in hand.
"I talked it over with my family. This is all I can scrape together for now. Take it to hold you over—no rush paying me back."
"It's all good, anything helps."
Lin Huaiqing took the check and started counting the zeros one by one.
"One, ten, hundred, thousand... twenty million?! That much?!"
"But it's still nowhere near what you need."
"You've already helped me so much! Wenle, thank you." Lin Huaiqing's eyes were getting red, and he moved in for a bro hug.
But Yu Wenle poked him in the shoulder, looking a little disgusted:
"What's there to thank me for? So cheesy."
"I almost forgot—Young Master Yu is off the market now. I can't even hug you anymore. Guess only someone in the medical field gets that privilege!"
"Get outta here! He's hard to win over—you have no idea how many tricks I had to pull to get that cold fish to open up. It was exhausting."
"But looks like you're reaping the rewards. Look at those hickeys on your neck—cover 'em up! Never thought this Doctor Gu would be such a secret freak."
"You nailed it! Let me tell you, he..."
Just as the two were deep in conversation, they heard a key turn in the lock. Gu Chengyun walked in carrying a huge bag of groceries, kicking off his shoes at the door.
Yu Wenle immediately asked, "Stay for dinner, Lin Huaiqing—try his cooking."
"Uh... is that okay?" He'd been busy all morning and was actually hungry. But he'd only met Gu Chengyun once and felt weird about staying for a meal.
"Come on, look at how much he bought—that should tell you he wants you to stay." Yu Wenle kept acting as Gu Chengyun's spokesperson, relaying his true intentions.
"Alright then, thank you, Doctor Gu."
Lin Huaiqing watched the two of them in the kitchen—or rather, Gu Chengyun doing all the work while Yu Wenle just got in the way.
He couldn't help but zone out.
He'd grown up in an orphanage and hadn't seen much of the world. It wasn't until he came to the big city that, when he was homeless, he almost got molested by some old man.
So he'd always been a bit wary of that side of things, even afraid to face Qin Du's feelings for him in the last world.
But today, seeing Yu Wenle and Gu Chengyun together, so peaceful and beautiful, it was like he finally let it go.
Maybe it didn't matter what gender the person was—what mattered was being with someone you truly loved.
Gu Chengyun really lived up to his rep as a military doctor retired from the battlefield. No matter how much trouble Yu Wenle caused him on the side, he still managed to whip up a whole table of delicious dishes without breaking a sweat.
The moment Lin Huaiqing caught the smell, his stomach growled.
He never expected these high-society types to all be better cooks than him.
"Huaiqing, try this—it's his specialty."
Lin Huaiqing ate and complimented Gu Chengyun at the same time.
"Mmm! So good! I never thought Doctor Gu would be not only a great doctor but also an amazing cook!"
Gu Chengyun's expression barely changed at the compliment.
"Take your time. There's plenty more."
Even his tone was flat and even, without any extra emotion.
Lin Huaiqing genuinely admired him. He never imagined that someone as loud and chaotic as Yu Wenle would fall for someone with the complete opposite personality—almost robotic, like Gu Chengyun.
They really are a perfect match...
"By the way, Doctor Gu, with skills that good, which hospital do you work at?"
"The Qin family..."
"Is that a new hospital in the capital? I don't think I've heard of it." Lin Huaiqing spoke without thinking, completely missing it.
It wasn't until Yu Wenle beside him snickered that Lin Huaiqing realized how foolish he sounded.
"Oh! The Qin family! Doctor Gu is the Qin family's private physician."
"Mm..."
"That sounds like a pretty easy gig." Those two Qin brothers were built like tanks, tougher than anyone at taking a beating. Their elders were probably cut from the same cloth.
He was nothing like that.
Gu Chengyun picked up a piece of boiled fish, chewed it slowly, and made small talk:
"Actually, not exactly. Qin Fan's been sick the last couple of days, so I've had to head over and give him acupuncture."
Hearing that familiar name again, Lin Huaiqing suppressed his curiosity, not wanting to keep the topic going.
But Yu Wenle beside him, oblivious to his discomfort, jumped right in.
"Qin Fan's sick? With what? No wonder you've been MIA lately—turns out you've been giving him acupuncture. He hasn't had a stroke, has he?"
"Nothing serious, just an excess of liver fire. Old Mr. Qin asked me to help regulate it."
Though Lin Huaiqing pretended not to care on the surface, he absorbed every word.
Liver fire wasn't exactly an illness—it just meant irritability and a short temper, likely brought on by emotional frustration.
After wiping out the Lin family—such a formidable opponent—without lifting a finger and winning so cleanly, would he still be frustrated?
Or was it because the Lin family hadn't fully collapsed yet, keeping him up at night and fueling that liver fire? Probably just biding his time, waiting to wipe out the Lin family for good.
