Chapter 237: The No-Name Star Beckons, the Benefactor Becomes a Simp 10
by 早日暴富Chapter 237: A Nobody Actor Crooks His Finger, and the Sugar Daddy Turns Simp 10
Aren't actors supposed to be, like, really good at acting?
Why was there zero guilt on Ji Jingzhao's face when he said that?
His eyes sparkled like stars, and his naturally petite face still had a little baby fat. He looked incredibly innocent.
No wonder he was the designated bottom of this world—just one look and you could tell he wasn't so simple.
Lin Huaiqing wasn't about to be outdone, so he took the initiative to greet Ji Jingzhao. "You're Ji Jingzhao, right? Fei Xiu talks about you all the time. Your ship is super popular!"
"That's just people online making a big deal out of nothing. Honestly, Fei Xiu and I are just good friends—it's not like what people say online at all."
That's what he said, but ever since their "Journey to the West" ship (Xiu Ji) became popular, both of their fame rose to another level.
Who would actually believe they didn't deliberately market themselves?
"Alright, Lin Huaiqing, I can't help you with your thing. If there's nothing else, you should get going." Fei Xiu said coldly.
"What's going on? Fei Xiu, if you can help, you should help him out—Brother Lin is your childhood friend after all. You two go way back."
With someone else there, Lin Huaiqing didn't want to say it out loud. "Fei Xiu, can we talk privately?"
"Oh, no worries, Fei Xiu, go ahead. I'll just read through the script here. Have a good talk with Brother Lin, and don't lose your temper."
Maybe it was because of Ji Jingzhao, but Fei Xiu reluctantly got up and led Lin Huaiqing into the study.
Once the door was shut, Fei Xiu lounged on the sofa, raising an eyebrow like he was the one calling the shots:
"Alright, spit it out. Why'd you come all the way here? What do you want?"
"I know I embarrassed you in front of your friends at Haoyue last time, but you can't stoop this low!"
Lin Huaiqing held back his rising anger and continued:
"You're a big star. You do a couple of shows, and you've got fame and money. What about me? We came out to make it together, and I've been through just as much as you! Why? Why can you ruin my career with just one word? Is this what all those years between us were worth?"
Fei Xiu dug in his ear with an annoyed look and said dismissively, "Keep it down! There are people outside."
"I'm asking you—was it you who did this?"
"Yes!"
"At least you own up to it. So what exactly do you want?"
"My terms are simple. Quit the industry. Retire for good. Then we can go back to how we were before. You cook and wait for me to get home, we take baths together, sleep together... Don't worry, I won't skimp on the cash."
There it was... Fei Xiu had finally said what he was really thinking.
He'd probably planned all along to make the original Lin Huaiqing give up his career and devote himself entirely to taking care of him, waiting on him hand and foot.
He got to enjoy the original owner's endless patience and love while keeping his own freedom.
Oh, nice! What a well-played game!
At that moment, Lin Huaiqing finally saw Fei Xiu for who he really was, and his anger turned into a bitter laugh.
"So, you're saying I should quit the industry, and then... you'll support me?"
"Babe, you're making it sound so bad. Haven't we been together all these years like this? You live in my house, eat my food. Of course, I don't mind any of that. I just think you work too hard, and I want to take some pressure off you. That way, you can be with me wholeheartedly."
As Fei Xiu warmed up to his own speech, he even reached over to take Lin Huaiqing's hand.
In his mind, Lin Huaiqing might get mad, but he'd eventually cave.
After all, he was already at the point where he had no roles and no commercials.
And the money Lin Huaiqing had saved over the years had either gone to paying off contract penalties or been sent back to his hometown. He barely had anything left.
In this huge city, without Fei Xiu's place, where else could he go?
Back to his hometown?
They weren't young anymore. Going back home with nothing to show for it at their age would make them a joke to their relatives and friends.
So in his mind, no matter what happened, Lin Huaiqing would eventually say yes.
Lin Huaiqing lowered his head, his eyes unreadable. After a moment, he spoke slowly, one word at a time:
"So there's no way to negotiate this?"
"That's right. If those directors dare to keep hiring you, I won't work with them anymore. Do you think they'd risk pissing me off for some D-list nobody like you?"
"Fine! Okay, fine..." Lin Huaiqing took a deep breath and laughed bitterly.
"You agree?" A hint of joy crossed Fei Xiu's face.
"Dream on! Even if I go back to the countryside to farm, I won't keep putting up with someone as disgusting as you."
Lin Huaiqing spat on the ground, shook off Fei Xiu's hand with a look of disgust, and turned to leave.
"Hey! You sure you don't want to think this over? The place you're living in now—it's mine too." He still couldn't believe Lin Huaiqing would be this stubborn.
"I'll move out tomorrow. And just so you know, from this moment on, we're done."
Throwing the word "breakup" in Fei Xiu's face, Lin Huaiqing stormed out.
His furious exit caught Ji Jingzhao's attention.
"Brother Lin, did you and Fei Xiu get into a fight? Why are you leaving already?"
"None of your business! Worry about yourself!" Lin Huaiqing was pissed and snapped at Ji Jingzhao too.
He'd already snapped at the main bottom, and now he was going off on the main top too.
Too pissed to even grab his hat and sunglasses, he slammed the door on his way out.
"Fei Xiu! What's going on with you two? Brother Lin just stormed off, and you're not even going after him?" Ji Jingzhao urged as Fei Xiu came out of the study right after.
"Don't worry about him! Look at his attitude! That's how he acts when he comes to beg me? Serves him right for being so irrelevant."
Back home, Lin Huaiqing finally calmed down. He hadn't said "breakup" on a whim.
Since he and Fei Xiu were always on completely different pages, there was no point in staying together.
The system hadn't flagged him for being out of character, which meant he hadn't done anything wrong.
If he kept letting Fei Xiu push him around, he'd never finish the mission in this lifetime.
The more Lin Huaiqing packed, the more he realized how few things in this house actually belonged to the original owner.
Except for the flowers and plants, that is.
But he couldn't take them all, so he only brought the most vibrant pot of lily of the valley.
Even though the original owner was an entertainer, he didn't have that many clothes. And they were relatively affordable, too.
All his belongings fit into just one car.
After closing the door, he sent the keys straight to Fei Xiu's downtown apartment.
Then he had the driver take him and his stuff straight to his entertainment company.
Xurong Entertainment, the company he was signed with, was a long-established agency, but in recent years it had been overshadowed by hotter competitors, and business had been slow.
