Chapter 257: The No-Name Star Beckons, the Benefactor Becomes a Simp 28
by 早日暴富Chapter 257: A Nobody Crooks His Finger, and a Sugar Daddy Turns into a Simp 28
Lin Huaiqing saw Qin Song's reply and took a moment to process it, then remembered that Qin Song was a few years older than him and should be around thirty this year.
Oh, that mouth of his!
Even through the screen, Lin Huaiqing could practically feel Qin Song crumbling. He quickly started Googling how to give an emotionally intelligent reply.
"Actually, age isn't the standard for judging whether a man is mature or not. I really like that refined quality you have after being polished by time."
After mulling over and borrowing from different reply styles for ages, Qin Song only used six words to evaluate:
"Peak NPC reply."
He's definitely been influenced by the comment-section trolls.
But Qin Song wasn't the type to harp on something.
After Lin Huaiqing finished ranting about everything he'd been through that day, Qin Song also helped him list out several solutions.
In the countryside, you can't sleep in till the sun's high in the sky. At around six in the morning, the roosters crowing one after another outside completely woke Lin Huaiqing up.
Because of his sister's matter, he hadn't gotten a good night's sleep. Now he didn't feel like sleeping anyway. He washed his face with cold water, dark circles under his eyes, and got ready to go into battle mode.
"Son? You're only home for a few days, why are you up so early?"
Lin's mom had just woken up and was about to scoop some water from the vat to make breakfast.
"Mom, is Dad awake?"
"He's awake. What's wrong? You need something from your dad?"
"I need to talk to you both about something."
"Oh, this kid! I haven't even made breakfast yet. Can't this wait till after we eat?"
He'd been holding it in all night; he had to say it right then.
Lin Huaiqing got his parents together and said in a serious, no-nonsense tone:
"Dad! Mom! Tell me the truth. What exactly are you two hiding from me about Lin Xinxin's marriage partner?"
"Huh? What are we hiding from you? Your sister is getting married the day after tomorrow, don't you already know that?" Both parents were still laughing it off and changing the subject.
Lin Huaiqing knew they wouldn't tell the truth.
"What about the man? As the big brother, I want to meet this future brother-in-law, that's fine, right? Bring him over so I can meet him!"
He was willing to bet that his parents wouldn't dare let that thirty-something old bachelor come see him.
Sure enough, the moment meeting was mentioned, Lin's mom's reaction said it all.
"Your brother-in-law... he went into town to get some stuff. What's the rush? Can't you see him on the wedding day?"
They'd really thought this through. By the time the wedding day came, even if he discovered that the "brother-in-law's" age was vastly different from his sister's, he couldn't change the fact that she was marrying an old bachelor.
By then, everything would be too late.
Even though deep down he wasn't Lin Xinxin's real brother, since he was here, there was no way he'd just stand by and do nothing!
"Oh, really? Then let me ask—what's the deal with that 300,000 yuan bride price!" Lin Huaiqing was so mad he slammed his phone down on the table, making a loud noise.
He'd pushed them this hard already, and his parents still weren't planning to tell him the truth.
"Dad, Mom! Do we really need that money that badly? We already live in the nicest house in the village. If you're still not satisfied, wait till I shoot a few more shows, wait till I make it big, and I can move you both to the city."
"Why would you throw away Xinxin's future happiness for 300,000 yuan? Is it worth it?"
After getting chewed out by their son, the old couple both felt embarrassed. Seeing they couldn't keep it under wraps anymore, Lin's mom turned her anger toward the sister who still hadn't gotten up.
"You... how do you know all this! Did your sister tell you! That little brat, get out here right now!"
She moved to kick the door open, but Lin Huaiqing grabbed her and pulled her back:
"What does she have to do with it? You two did something so messed up, and you won't even let her complain to me about it?"
Once he got angry enough, Lin Huaiqing couldn't help but start cussing.
"You! I'm your mother! I'm doing all this for your own good!"
"For me?" Lin Huaiqing laughed out of sheer fury. He'd love to hear exactly how this was for his sake!
Who knew Lin's mom would actually start rattling off:
"How old are you now? You've been working in the city for almost ten years, and you don't even own a place there. What woman would marry you!
Your dad and I have talked it over. After the New Year, you should just move back for good. This house of ours is big and new. Mom will find you a wife around here, and consider that 300,000 your bride price."
Upon hearing this, Lin Huaiqing's thin lips pressed into a tight line. His brows knitted into a deep scowl, and he was so furious he was practically about to blow his top.
Such an outrageous thing to say, yet they still insisted it was for his own good, when really they were just doing something awful.
Lin Huaiqing yelled: "No! Who told you to 'do good' for me like this? If I have to use my sister's bride price money to get married, then I'd rather stay single for the rest of my life!"
Lin's dad, who'd been quiet the whole time, finally couldn't take it anymore and scolded:
"What kind of nonsense is that! If you're not gonna get married, what do you plan to do? Right now you have no money, what woman would be with you?
You say you're going out to work, but you don't come back for years at a time. You don't handle family stuff, and I don't blame you for it. Now we've thought everything through for you, and now you're the one blaming us?"
"Your mom already had someone line up a match for you. You can meet her before you head back. After the New Year, come back and settle down and get married! After that, do whatever you want, we don't care, I can't be bothered with you!"
Lin Huaiqing couldn't win an argument against two people by himself, especially when it was his own parents. Whether he won or lost, he couldn't win either way.
He just stayed silent instead of answering.
He had to admit, he'd really underestimated the original owner's parents.
He'd thought they treated their daughter badly but doted on their son. Little did he know that was only the case for small stuff.
When it came to the big stuff, they'd already made all the decisions for him and his sister.
They didn't care if it was right or wrong, as long as they dragged everyone down into misery with them.
The sound of their arguing eventually woke up the sister, who was still asleep.
She came out in a flimsy pair of pajamas to break it up.
"Brother, Mom, Dad, please stop fighting. Fine, I'll marry him! I'll marry him, okay? Didn't I already say yes? Stop yelling at my brother."
When Mother Lin saw Lin Xinxin, she launched into a scolding as if she had some kind of grudge against her:
"It's all because of you! If you hadn't told him, how would your brother ever have found out? I've raised you for nothing—you're so immature!"
Father Lin chimed in too.
"It's the same no matter who you marry. There are plenty of couples with older husbands and younger wives, and they live just fine. Besides, Erzhu really likes you! That thirty thousand is his life savings! I really don't know what you're still fussing about here."
Lin Xinxin just cried, maybe she didn't dare to talk back.
Lin Huaiqing's head throbbed painfully from their noise, the anger bottled up inside him was about to boil over.
Mother Lin clearly failed to notice Lin Huaiqing's complex emotional shift, assuming his silence meant he had agreed.
She poked Lin Xinxin in the waist, "Stop crying! What's there to cry about? You're getting married the day after tomorrow! Stop it now!"
