Chapter 150
byChapter 150
The piece of glass held between Yu He's fingertips was startlingly the one from Fu Yunzhen's wound.
The coagulated blood traces spread out on the glass, creating a dark red pattern, resembling a peculiar window flower stuck to the glass.
Fu Yunzhen’s eyes widened in disbelief, and after feeling the bandages on his back repeatedly, he exclaimed in shock, "You... you removed the glass from my wound?"
Yu He held the glass, turned his hand, and showed Fu Yunzhen the part that had been embedded in the flesh.
The piece of glass was wider at the top and narrower at the bottom, and astonishingly, the bottom was not a sharp point but a blunt angle.
This is a pentagonal glass shard!
Yu He handed the glass shard to Fu Yunzhen, "Our luck hasn’t run out yet; it didn’t go in deep, just three centimeters."
When bulletproof glass is hit, it usually shatters in a spiderweb pattern, and the glass shards are often isosceles triangles with sharp angles.
The moment Yu He saw Fu Yunzhen’s wound, he completed the entire shape of the glass in his mind based on the exposed part.
It should have been long, with a sharp angle smaller than 30°, resembling a dagger. The force concentrated at the tip, piercing the epidermis, embedding in the wound, with a depth of probably 5-7 centimeters, and it might even have punctured the liver.
Fu Yunzhen had thought the same.
Nobody expected that it would turn out to be a pentagonal shard.
The exposed glass was like the tip of an iceberg above water; they misjudged the size of the iceberg beneath.
This was a misjudgment beyond common sense. After all, pentagonal shards are rare among broken glass, and it’s even rarer for such a shard with a blunt angle to be able to cut through flesh and get firmly stuck inside.
So, the depth of Fu Yunzhen's wound was far less than they had imagined!
Fu Yunzhen lowered his eyes to the blood-stained glass shard, "This is almost like a joke played by fate."
If Yu He hadn’t brought Fu Yunzhen to the temple, or if he had been afraid to take the risk of accelerating Fu Yunzhen's blood loss, perhaps no one would have discovered the secret of this glass shard until Fu Yunzhen was dead.
A wound that was originally not fatal almost claimed Fu Yunzhen’s life.
The deceptive nature of this glass shard was truly exceptional; no one would suspect its shape to be like this upon seeing it.
Good fortune is the gift the heavens bestow upon the brave.
Yu He's deep affection and courage forcefully broke through the heavens' mockery, bringing Fu Yunzhen back from the brink.
"I told you, you wouldn’t die. Neither of us will be left behind in Northern Myanmar." Yu He encircled Fu Yunzhen’s shoulder, "Admit it, I'm impressive, right?"
Fu Yunzhen gently closed his palm, holding the glass shard, "What were you thinking when you removed it?"
A fleeting shimmer crossed Yu He's eyes, "I wasn't thinking about anything; my mind was a complete blank."
"Is that so?" Fu Yunzhen suddenly felt the glass in his hand as heavy as a thousand catties, and with a trembling voice, trying to joke, he said, "If we weren't this lucky, you wouldn’t have done anything rash, right?"
Yu He smiled, took the glass shard from Fu Yunzhen’s hand, and casually threw it aside, "Of course not. If you had died, I would have immediately found ten new boyfriends. So, you are not allowed to die in secret, got it?"
Fu Yunzhen's heartbeat quickened. The more nonchalant Yu He appeared, the more fearful he became. However, given the positive atmosphere at the moment, he really couldn't bring himself to say anything that would dampen the mood.
Noticing Fu Yunzhen deep in thought, Yu He moved to sit beside him, supporting himself with his hand, "Boss Fu, your husband saved you this time. How will you repay me?"
Fu Yunzhen turned his head to look at Yu He, his eyes filled with affection, "How would you like me to repay you?"
Yu He leaned in, opened his mouth as if to say something, but unfortunately, he sneezed before he could speak.
The romantic atmosphere instantly dissipated.
Fu Yunzhen reached out to touch Yu He’s forehead, "Go put on some clothes."
Yu He complied and went to the small kitchen in the back hall to fetch the dried clothes and changed into them. Fu Yunzhen sat down beside him, shoulder to shoulder.
"Are you cold?" Yu He asked. "Do you want to go to the back kitchen? The stove is lit, and it's warmer there."
Fu Yunzhen had an injury on his back, and he leaned on Yu He’s shoulder, "I’m okay. Are you cold?"
Yu He took Fu Yunzhen’s hand, "I was a bit cold when I came back from the rain, but not anymore. The temperature in Northern Myanmar is still high, and it doesn't drop much even when it rains."
Fu Yunzhen nodded, "Let’s rest for a while."
Yu He leaned against the wall, supporting himself with one hand on the altar table.
The repetitive sound of the rain formed a somewhat monotonous backdrop, making the small temple seem like a separate world, isolated from the rest of reality.
It was quiet, ethereal, free from chaos and clamor, a sanctuary far from the disputes of the world.
There were only Yu He and Fu Yunzhen.
Yu He's heart was engulfed in an indescribable tranquility; he dearly wished to stay with Fu Yunzhen till the end of time.
“Boss Fu,” after an indeterminate amount of time, Yu He suddenly said, “I really want to kiss you.”
Fu Yunzhen's eyelashes quivered slightly, “This is a temple.”
Yu He planted a gentle kiss on Fu Yunzhen’s forehead, “The Buddha is magnanimous; he won’t mind.”
Fu Yunzhen’s ears heated up. Even though he knew there were no ghosts or gods and that no one was watching, the Buddhist temple was still a place of purity. Kissing Yu He here made Fu Yunzhen indescribably nervous.
Fu Yunzhen tilted his head back, avoiding Yu He’s lips as they moved in for another kiss, “Little He, stop fooling around.”
Catching sight of Fu Yunzhen’s reddened ears, Yu He felt a ticklish sensation in his heart, as an inexplicable sense of taboo wrapped around his mind.
The more taboo it was, the more his heart itched.
Yu He’s Adam's apple bobbed as he took a deep breath, “Alright then, you give me a kiss, and I'll stop.”
Fu Yunzhen sat up straight, pointing at the Buddha statue in the main hall as an excuse, “The Buddha is watching.”
Yu He turned to look at the golden giant Buddha and said softly, “The Buddha knows how much I love you.”
Fu Yunzhen also turned his head, “What?”
Yu He fell silent again, sulking and bored, he started to fiddle with the melted wax on the candle using his finger, “Never mind, if you don’t want to kiss, then don’t.”
The transparent wax quickly solidified into a white, soft shell on the tip of his finger.
Yu He found it amusing and continued to play with the candle wax with his fingernail.
Fu Yunzhen gazed at Yu He, his heart brimming with affection. Unable to restrain himself any longer, he leaned in and planted a kiss on Yu He's cheek.
Yu He turned around in surprise, his hand trembling, and the freshly melted wax dripped onto the back of his hand.
So hot!
A chill ran down Yu He’s spine. He wondered, "Is this a reproach from the Buddha for leading Fu Yunzheng astray from his righteous path?"
I am indeed determined to lead him astray.
Yu He turned his head to the side, bringing his face extremely close to Fu Yunzheng’s, their noses almost touching.
Their breaths mingled, making it hard to distinguish whose heartbeat was more chaotic.
Yu He’s scent was like the tempting serpent in the Garden of Eden, teasing Fu Yunzheng’s not-so-firm resolve.
The breath of his lover was the most potent wine, and Fu Yunzheng was intoxicated even before their lips met.
Yu He closed his eyes, silently chanting in his heart: I just like Fu Yunzheng too much. When you like someone, you want to hug them, kiss them...
I shall not fantasize about anything more excessive in front of the Buddha.
My apologies, my apologies, Amitabha.
As Yu He prayed, Fu Yunzheng’s gentle lips landed on the corner of his.
They exchanged a kiss before the Buddha.
A bold and irreverent kiss.
*
The rain lasted all night, and its intensity diminished around midnight.
The next morning, warm sunlight pierced through the layers of haze, finally shining upon the towering golden roof of the temple’s main hall.
Along with the sunny weather, Captain Xiao, who had parted ways with them upon entering the mountain, appeared at the temple.
Yu He was extremely surprised, unable to fathom how this elusive mercenary managed to find them in the mountainous, layered terrain.
Captain Xiao's explanation was rather perfunctory; he simply said, "Because I searched wholeheartedly."
Yu He: "......"
"Huang Shaohang's people must have scoured Pozhuofeng by now," said Captain Xiao. "The road up the mountain is too narrow for cars, so let's head down the mountain now, while they still haven’t found this place."
Yu He nodded, squatting in front of Fu Yunzheng: "Get on, I'll carry you down the mountain."
Fu Yunzheng’s hand rested on Yu He’s shoulder: "No need, I can walk faster. I’ll be fine."
Yu He turned his head, looking at Fu Yunzheng with clear disapproval.
Captain Xiao took out a potion from his backpack, mixed an anti-inflammatory and hemostatic medicine in a syringe, and then handed it to Yu He: "Give him an injection first, we will deal with the wound once we reach the car."
The journey downhill was unexpectedly smooth.
When Yu He carried Fu Yunzheng up the mountain in search of the temple, he felt as though this mountain path was endless.
Stepping over one set of stone steps after another, the distant golden peak was half-hidden behind the pine forest, its size seemingly unchanged regardless of distance, like a mirage in the desert—visible, yet unreachable.
At that time, Yu He wondered who had decided to build a temple on such a high peak, as if deliberately testing the devotees’ sincerity—it truly required determination to climb up there.
It was this same winding and twisting route, yet going downhill now seemed much easier, completely devoid of the earlier hardship.
Yu He supported Fu Yunzheng, his palm resting on Fu Yunzheng’s lower back, holding the muscles beneath the bandage to prevent the wound from being strained by movement.
"Take it slow." "Watch your step." "One step at a time."
Captain Xiao, walking in front, turned his head back to look at the two of them.
Yu He didn’t care, doing things his own way, while Fu Yunzheng paused slightly, his indifferent eyes lifted slightly, but he didn’t speak.
“What’s wrong?” Yu He asked.
Captain Xiao's expression clearly held many words, but after pondering and hesitating for a long while, he said: "It’s nothing."
Yu He rolled his eyes and continued walking down with Fu Yunzheng: "If you have something to say, just say it. Isn’t it suffocating to hold back your words?"
So Captain Xiao no longer held back, quickly stepping down the stairs: "Hearing what you said just now, it feels like you’re not helping Mr. Fu; it’s more like you’re supporting a wife who’s close to her due date. The wound is not made of tofu, it’s not that easily torn. Let’s move faster."
A hint of chill flashed in Fu Yunzheng’s obsidian-like eyes.
Yu He was blissfully unaware, forgetting the earlier part of the conversation upon hearing the latter, his attention completely focused on the words "the wound might tear."
"Mr. Fu is of noble status, he's never been so severely injured before, of course, we need to be more careful." After saying this, Yu He muttered under his breath: "It’s not like he’s your wife; of course, you don’t feel the pain."
Fu Yunzheng: “......”
Captain Xiao had exceptionally sharp hearing; even from a distance, he clearly caught Yu He’s muttered words.
What?
Could it be that Mr. Fu is actually...?
Captain Xiao's pupils dilated slightly, his gaze shifting to Fu Yunzheng in shock, his face filled with disbelief.
Fu Yunzheng: “......”
These straight men are really the death of me!
Fu Yunzheng’s gaze turned increasingly icy. A lethal glare swept across Captain Xiao’s face, sending chills down his spine. Then, turning around nonchalantly, he continued walking down the mountain.
With a cold smirk playing at the corners of his mouth, Fu Yunzheng turned his gaze to Yu He.
Yu He turned his face and planted a kiss on Fu Yunzheng’s cheek. He seemed utterly oblivious and strangely pleased, saying, “Captain Xiao just said you’re my spouse.”
Fu Yunzheng’s expression was as dark as iron: “I am your ancestor.”
Just then, a gunshot suddenly rang out in the forest!
Yu He and Fu Yunzheng immediately looked towards the source of the sound, only to see a flock of birds startled into flight by the gunshot.
