Chapter 5
byChapter 5
Perhaps his threat had worked, for the adjutant did not disturb him again after that.
When Lu Wei woke up, he learned that the starship had already arrived at Royal City.
He rubbed his hands together, feeling somewhat restless.
The adjutant, seeing his unease, chuckled. "Now you know fear."
Lu Wei made a face, unconcerned by the adjutant's remarks.
The adjutant then commanded, "Don't be afraid."
Lu Wei was confused. ???
What kind of schoolboy was giving orders now? Did he just decide that everything would be alright?
Out of all the things Lu Wei disliked, obedience ranked highest. "I'm scared, and I'll admit it!"
After saying that, Lu Wei covered his forehead, exclaiming inwardly, Damn.
Spending too much time with the adjutant had turned him into a perpetual reactor, akin to a scared elementary school student.
"I'm not going to devour you," the adjutant said, his expressionless face betraying his unease. "Aren't you the one who wasn't afraid before?"
Lu Wei replied, "You don't understand. Anyone would be a bit nervous when suddenly finding themselves in an unfamiliar place with a mentally... unstable individual, wouldn't they?"
The adjutant suggested, "You could try whispering sweet nothings into His Majesty's ear."
Lu Wei: "You actually remembered."
He had only mentioned it casually back then.
The adjutant nodded seriously, not only did he remember, but he had been eagerly anticipating it.
The starship officially landed, and Lu Wei leaned against the window to observe. Through the window, he could see the ship landing with a rotating glow, not ordinary LED lights, but ones that changed colors! It was a completely different experience from how airplanes landed on Earth.
Lu Wei bent over the windowsill, exclaiming, "Holy moly, Adjutant, did you see that? That was awesome!"
Indeed, the adjutant was looking in that direction, but not at the window. Instead, his gaze was fixed on the person.
Lu Wei was oblivious to the posture he had assumed, leaning on the windowsill with his face pressed against the glass, his eyes sparkling as he gazed outside. His hips had instinctively tilted upward.
This position resembled an invitation for intimacy.
The adjutant composedly averted his gaze, remarking, "Very ordinary, rather unappealing."
Lu Wei turned his head and descended from the windowsill. "I can't expect you to utter a single compliment."
The subordinate must be cursing him inwardly as a country bumpkin.
-Actually, no. The subordinate would have spoken his mind directly.
He was quite blunt and wouldn't consider others' feelings.
They descended from the starship, greeted by a massive crowd. Lu Wei recalled seeing such a grand reception only during his college entrance exam.
The leader wore a military uniform, followed by others who were likely also from the military. They were uniformly well-dressed, with badges embroidered on their shoulders. Lu Wei had seen the same emblem on the subordinate's attire, suggesting they represented the royal military.
Lu Wei drew in a sharp breath.
Before him strode a figure.
A badge adorned their chest.
It read: Royal Adjutant Officer.
Essentially, an adjutant, right?
Question marks swirled in Lu Wei's mind.
He glanced at the person before him and then at the others nearby.
Did His Majesty the Dog have two adjutants?
The approaching adjutant addressed them, "Your Majesty, Mr. Lu."
Lu Wei was no longer surprised that the other party knew his surname; what perplexed him was who this "Your Majesty" referred to!
Amused to death.
No wonder.
He found it odd!
Lu Wei glanced at the "adjutant" who had accompanied him for two days.
The "adjutant" approached him.
"Mm." A sluggish response acknowledged the genuine adjutant's greeting.
His expression was listless, and his skin was rather pale. His features were bold and three-dimensional, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to describe him as handsome.
—Your Majesty, the Dog!
His Majesty the Dog wasn't aware that he was deceiving anyone; instead, he was negotiating with the adjutant.
In a leisurely tone, His Majesty the Dog said, "Adjutant, I've used your identity again."
The genuine adjutant seemed accustomed to it, showing no signs of discomfort. "Your Majesty, perhaps we should use Captain Li next time."
Lu Wei stood at a distance.
The canine monarch glanced at him with profound dissatisfaction.
With an expressionless face, the monarch looked at Lu Wei and asked, "Are you not going to come and whisper sweet nothings in my ear?"
Lu Wei: "..."
Hehe.
The bullet he had fired himself struck right at the center of his forehead.
The reason Lu Wei trusts him is because he initially referred to the Canine Sovereign as a madman.
Who in the world could have imagined someone describing themselves as utterly confused?
Your majesty from the planet is indeed eccentric! It's quite unusual for a monarch to have so much leisure time as to deceive a commoner like him!
Upon seeing Lu Wei, the people behind him couldn't help but appraise him. After hearing the Emperor's words, their expressions became even more peculiar.
Was this still the same Emperor?
When had the Emperor ever spoken in such an intimate tone?
—Well, perhaps when he was being a shark.
Lu Wei was currently experiencing an intellectual storm, as the bizarre behavior of the adjutant over the past two days suddenly made sense.
He had said it before—how could the entire royal family be insane?
Lu Wei muttered, "Damn."
After entering Royal City, Lu Wei was escorted by several servants to change his clothes.
Dressed anew, he was respectfully led away.
Then, he was taken to an impressively grand building.
Upon entering, he found a massive table inside.
Several rows of people were seated in an orderly manner, some physically present while others maintained communication through advanced devices.
Interstellar technology had advanced rapidly, allowing three-dimensional communications to intricately depict a person's outline.
The... damn dog emperor waved at him, his adjutant.
"Come here."
Lu Wei: Treating me like a little puppy, huh?
"Is it amusing to deceive me?"
Seated at the head of the table, the dog emperor propped his chin on his hand and lazily said, "I didn't say that."
Indeed, you didn't claim to be the adjutant.
But you didn't deny being called one when I addressed you as such, did you?!!
Feeling leg pain from standing too long, Lu Wei glanced around and found not a single empty seat. "Where am I supposed to sit?"
Each seat down below seemed to be assigned to a specific person, with everyone dressed in their finest, maintaining a serious demeanor.
It appeared they were in the middle of a meeting.
Moreover, the entire banquet hall exuded a futuristic vibe. All communication was conducted through intercoms, lending an air of formality to the event.
His Majesty the Dog casually pointed at someone beside him, crooking his finger. "You."
The gesture implied that the noble should stand up and make room for Lu Wei to take his seat.
The aristocrat in question held a prominent position, and his face paled at this casual gesture.
However, he dared not voice any complaint.
Those seated below kept their eyes lowered, minding their own business.
Wondering inwardly if this was truly His Majesty's intention or merely a casual gesture.
To directly dismiss an aristocratic lord from his seat, allowing a commoner to occupy the prestigious position in the Empire's First Interstellar Congress.
Indeed, something His Majesty would do.
Furthermore, His Majesty had actually brought a commoner receptacle to the Interstellar Congress.
This was the first time His Majesty had shown such favor to someone.
Countless pairs of eyes turned to Lu Wei.
Lu Wei: ...
It was just giving up a seat, wasn't it?
Since the person was unwilling, Lu Wei said, "Forget it, I'll do it myself. That chair doesn't seem comfortable anyway."
Lu Wei fetched a chair and sat down beside His Majesty the Dog Emperor.
As if he were in his own home.
The monarch: Hahahaha!
And then, a simple stool appeared beside the majestic throne.
Half-reclining, it seemed incredibly comfortable to sit on.
On a few steps above, a casual chaise longue was placed beside the noble throne. The young man sat down beside His Majesty with ease.
Looking up at Lu Wei on the golden staircase, the officials and nobles thought, "..."
He had simply placed a low stool beside the royal seat.
T-this was practically creating an impromptu queen's throne!
In that instant, countless pairs of eyes turned to Lu Wei.
Brother Earth felt like an exotic animal on display in a zoo.
Lu Wei: Don't be too envious of my chair's backrest.
The Emperor's quirky sense of humor seemed to be centered on Lu Wei, causing him to burst into laughter.
With the addition of the Emperor's companion, the nobles present only dared to secretly size him up, not daring to inquire further.
The conference began.
Lu Wei gradually grasped the purpose of this interstellar meeting.
The interstellar conference was a routine official duty for discussing state affairs and military situations – in essence, it was an imperial audience.
Lu Wei: "...."
Ignorance is bliss, but knowing left him somewhat uncomfortable.
No one had informed him that this was what he would be doing?
The conference was lengthy. Initially, Lu Wei managed to maintain his composure, but as sleepiness crept in, he couldn't help but yawn.
Half asleep, a scent of blood wafted into his nostrils.
Lu Wei snapped awake to see a noble below holding a box.
The noble opened the container, revealing a gruesome sight drenched in blood.
Lu Wei couldn't discern what was inside, but the noble's terrified scream as he dropped it on the floor spoke volumes.
Upon hitting the ground, the contents tumbled out... It was an arm.
Lu Wei: "What the hell."
His Majesty the Canine chuckled. "Not interested in the second gift?"
The noble's hand trembled violently. His face had turned pale from fear, and his gaze shifted hesitantly towards the second box.
With a trembling hand, he gently pushed open the lid of the gift box. Just one glance was enough to steal his breath away.
Inside was a head.
It was the head of that person.
The eyes had already lost all vitality.
With a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, the Canine Emperor asked, "How does it feel to meet an old acquaintance again, Earl?"
Aside from him, no one else could have laughed in such an atmosphere.
Lu Wei didn't see what was inside the box, but he could tell from the Earl's expression that it wasn't something pleasant.
There was a saying that "curiosity killed the cat," and he wasn't foolish enough to inquire about its contents.
The palace was eerily quiet, and it was clear to anyone that the Canine Emperor was in a terrible mood.
Lu Wei was used to it; the Canine Emperor never seemed to be in a good mood anyway. Besides, Lu Wei's mood was even worse than the Canine Emperor's. He hadn't even settled the score with His Majesty yet.
At this moment, Lu Wei's fists were clenched tightly.
He felt like hitting someone.
Nobles: He actually isn't afraid of His Majesty? Damn, he's so brave!
However, Lu Wei still felt a wave of nausea from the smell of blood.
The 'dog' emperor seemed to be watching him closely and soon noticed his reaction.
The emperor immediately blamed someone else, looking at the noble with a mocking smile, "You scared him."
The noble didn't know the identity of this young man who was brought back by the emperor, but this simple exchange made it clear that their relationship was not an ordinary one.
Lu Wei forced a smile, having to be polite and indirect in front of so many people, "Your Majesty, it seems the real culprit is someone else."
He couldn't openly criticize the 'dog' emperor in front of everyone. He was currently under someone else's roof and had to endure!
For some reason, this submissive attitude provoked the emperor to pound the table in laughter.
His laughter was so intense that his voice trembled as he spoke, "You, you...flirt a bit more."
I'll flirt with you my ass.
With a forced smile, Lu Wei softened his tone and said, "Your Majesty, please stop laughing, it frightens me."
Huo Jin knew that Lu Wei wasn't scared at all; he could sleep like a pig even after being startled awake in the middle of the night. It was precisely this clumsy acting that made it amusing.
Extremely amusing.
Everyone here, whether they were hiding their true feelings or not, would inadvertently reveal their fear.
But in Lu Wei's eyes, there was only curiosity, something that couldn't be faked.
Now, his gaze seemed to say, "Scared? You should be grateful I don't have a knife."
This scene left the nobles observing in silence, their ears and noses focused inwardly.
What an impressive and cunning person, to make such an expression appear on His Majesty! Which esteemed family had cultivated him? Why had they never seen anyone like him before?
Since Emperor Star's monarch ascended to the throne, there had never been any signs of him getting close to anyone. Initially, there were those with ulterior motives who tried every means to send people to the emperor's side.
But this emperor was a certified madman, showing no interest in the delicate and submissive types, and was ruthless enough to take harsh measures.
With so many having suffered the consequences, naturally, no one would dare to pluck the tiger's whiskers anymore.
It was reasonable to assume that those unable to experience the joys of love and desire within the royal family might become distorted in their nature.
One could only wonder how long this person could keep the fickle king's favor. Let's hope they wouldn't be discarded after a few days.
