Chapter 11
byChapter 11
During this period, Lu Wei had every reason to lie down as much as possible.
From the stress of internships after graduation, being laid off, and failed job searches, all the mental and emotional burdens had piled up. Now that he could finally rest, only an idiot would refuse.
Not only did Lu Wei lie down himself, but he also tried to brainwash His Majesty the Dog into joining him in his lounging activities.
He used phrases like "labor doesn't actually create much value," "laying flat is a lifestyle choice," and "you must be really tired, still working so hard while I'm like this." These were all persuasive words to coax the dog into doing less work.
The adjutant once sighed, "His Majesty has completely transformed from a workaholic into a leisurely street dweller, just like Mr. Lu."
Right now, they were lazily basking in the sun.
This bench was even modified by Lu Wei specifically to accommodate a full person lying down, with fruit juices and snacks within arm's reach.
Lu Wei took a sip of his mixed juice, sprawled comfortably on the recliner, and asked, "How does it feel? Are you starting to feel more mentally stable?"
Huo Jin narrowed his eyes, agreeing, "Yes, it's quite soothing."
The sun on Emperor Star was similar to Earth's, with its morning hours being gentle and perfect for basking. Sunbathing was the most cost-effective way to nourish the body, promoting calcium and phosphorus absorption as well as bone development. Surely this would apply to interstellar mutated human species too?
Lu Wei spoke with a smug satisfaction, "Life should have a sense of relaxation. I told you that your madness could be related to lack of rest; I've seen cases like this plenty of times."
Most young people's madness in this era was due to the lack of holidays, causing them to become worn out from work or school.
Lu Wei continued with conviction, "How many people have chosen to end their lives because they couldn't cope with stress and had no means of release? It's truly tragic. That's why I always emphasize to those around me that knowing how to unwind is also a part of life's aesthetics."
There was another crucial reason behind his suggestion for His Majesty the Dog to rest more –
When the other person was in a good mood, their breathing wouldn't become disordered! They wouldn't then have the urge to mess with his rear!
Huo Jin's ability to grasp key points remained consistently off-kilter: "Have you done this with anyone else before?"
Lu Wei: "Huh?"
Lu Wei habitually complained about His Majesty the Dog's line of thinking, then began to ponder and count on his fingers: "Anyone else? Roommates, Uncle from downstairs, and... one, two, three, four..."
Huo Jin rose to his feet. "I won't lie down anymore."
Lu Wei: ????
Don't, big brother?
When you're in a bad mood, your breathing easily becomes disordered, and he dared not imagine what might happen next.
Both Lu Wei and His Majesty the Dog lounged around not only because Lu Wei wanted to slack off but also to ensure the dog emperor maintained a steady breath, preventing any untoward incidents during their intimate moments.
After all, his bottom was genuinely sore.
Lu Wei held onto the other's hand. "Wait!"
Huo Jin paused, waiting for him elegantly with composure.
Lu Wei decided to adopt a circuitous strategy. "Not lying in the sun is fine too. How about we take a stroll in the park? Isn't there the largest ecological park on Emperor Star near the Royal City? I've never been there before, and it looks quite beautiful!"
Huo Jin replied, "Go by yourself and bring a few people to protect you."
What use is it for you to go alone?
Lu Wei immediately shook his head to express his stance. "I want to go with you."
The dog emperor's expression improved significantly. "So clingy."
"…" I'll endure.
One must endure in the short term to achieve great plans in the long term.
The starship was quickly prepared, taking about the same time as their leisurely stroll back to the center of the Royal City from basking in the sun outside. The speed was terrifying, and Lu Wei could imagine how intimidated those subordinates were by the dog emperor's dominance.
What Lu Wei didn't know was that they were even more shocked than he was.
His Majesty had always been an obsessive workaholic, unless it was his sick days, and had trained his subordinates to be obedient. The entire Emperor Star had adopted this workaholic culture under the influence of this emperor.
Yet, His Majesty was actually going to play during his downtime!
The ecological park was located right next to the Royal City, and it only took a brief ride on the starship to arrive.
Lu Wei stepped into the park, finally feeling like he was truly on an alien planet.
"Goodness, those extraterrestrial magazines from before didn't depict anything accurately."
As a child, Lu Wei had been a passionate enthusiast of the universe and its mysterious creatures. Back then, he'd read numerous books on extraterrestrial biology, all filled with illustrations that stretched the imagination, depicting aliens with either eight arms or eight eyes. He had taken them all seriously when he was young.
Huo Jin glanced over casually. "Extraterrestrial magazines? Aren't all these exhibits creatures native to Emperor Star?"
Lu Wei couldn't very well say that they all looked like aliens to him, so he chuckled. "I was poorer when I was younger and hadn't traveled far, so I've never seen these creatures... Haha."
Huo Jin replied simply, "Oh."
Ecological parks held no interest for Huo Jin, but since the youth was enthusiastic about it, he reluctantly accompanied him. The genuine excitement in the young man's eyes was evident; he had indeed never seen such things before.
Lu Wei pointed at one particular creature. "This one is so cute."
Even the most hardened men would find this form adorable.
The creature was covered in fluffy white fur, with two black-bean-like eyes peering out. It floated in mid-air like a balloon, extending its legs only when preparing to land firmly on the ground. Sensing Lu Wei's gaze, it let out a soft "woah" sound.
That sound, well, it was like squeezing cotton candy.
Even Lu Wei, a man, couldn't help but feel affection towards it.
The royal dog explained by his side, "This is the most common Velvet Beast in the Northwest region. One shot and it's done. But when it's dead, it can be quite noisy."
Lu Wei: "...."
The two continued on, and the next exhibit was another creature native to Emperor Star.
Lu Wei exclaimed, "Damn, what a mix!"
This creature resembled a hybrid of Earth's wolves and eagles. Its eyes were sharp like a wolf's, while its beak was as pointed and aggressive as that of a desert eagle. Its sleek curves and cool, blue-tinted black fur made it resemble a motorcycle.
Lu Wei marveled, "Its fur is so damn cool!"
Which man wouldn't appreciate such a stylish appearance in an animal?
Perceiving the human's admiration, the beast rubbed against him, letting out a long, melodious howl as if showing off.
Lu Wei gently rubbed the fur of the creature before him. "Its voice is quite exotic too!"
His Majesty the Dog commented sharply, "This is a Saiyan Beast. It looks imposing but is actually weak. I've tasted one before when we camped on an alien planet – not that tasty."
Lu Wei: "…"
His Majesty the Dog glanced at the beast, and it immediately clamped its legs together, refraining from further contact with Lu Wei as it retreated to a corner.
The beast let out a meaningless whimper that clearly conveyed submission.
Its racial memory warned it that this human was dangerous.
The Saiyan Beast, which had initially been friendly towards Lu Wei, now dared not approach. The human carried the same aura – he must be its mate, so better not provoke him.
After all, male creatures were highly territorial.
Lu Wei clicked his tongue.
From then on, like a domino effect, the creatures they encountered along the way avoided them, especially His Majesty the Dog who was trailing closely behind. However, due to the dog's proximity to Lu Wei, those creatures also didn't dare to come too close to him.
Lu Wei endured in silence the entire time, while His Majesty the Dog followed contentedly and cluelessly behind him.
Lu Wei: How could any normal person not realize that at a distance of 800 meters from the animals, you can't see a thing??
Even the exhibit staff noticed that Lu Wei was in a terrible mood.
When they first entered the park, Lu Wei had been smiling, whereas His Majesty wore a stoic expression.
After walking for what seemed like half a day, the dog was in high spirits, leaving Lu Wei with a lifeless stare.
A new form of "exchange reaction" was taking place.
The exhibit staff were keenly observant.
Although this was the first time in a long while that His Majesty had brought someone along to a public event, they had no idea about the young man's identity. If they were to remind His Majesty and end up displeasing him as a result, they would truly be foolish.
Thus, the guide remained acutely aware of their surroundings, paying attention with both eyes and ears, but also keeping their thoughts to themselves.
In fact, after the two of them arrived at the Eco-Park, a hot thread had already started circulating on StarNet.
[SECRET! Uncovering the Emperor Taking an Unknown Male Companion Through the Eco-Park – Has the Emperor Found a Partner?](hot)
It was said that someone who witnessed the Emperor secretly enjoying the park didn't dare to take photos, hence there were no pictures to prove it.
Most replies were skeptical, after all, it was that particular Emperor they were talking about.
A disguised staff member from the exhibit cautiously replied to the post.
[The Emperor has been accompanying the other person for the whole morning. It's the first time I've seen His Majesty so patient...]
With his new ID and avatar, it was easy for him to be seen as a rumormonger.
[Is the editor-in-chief using a new account now? Why not reveal your identity to show your credibility?]
[Go ahead, keep boasting. Let's see who believes you.]
The exhibit staff member: "..." Forget it, it was just accompanying someone out – it didn't necessarily imply anything significant.
What cannot be endured must be swallowed.
Lu Wei was already on the verge of tolerance.
Each time His Canine Majesty provided commentary, it utterly ruined the atmosphere. What kind of conversation was this for someone visiting a zoo?
At the nth creature, His Canine Majesty warned, "This Achino Beast has a vicious bite. With your tender flesh and limbs, stand farther away or it might just take a chunk out of you."
The Achino Beast, clearly not daring to move, protested inwardly, Innocent here!
Fifty meters away, Lu Wei could only discern its color...
Lu Wei didn't understand how he, a man, was perceived as some mystical fragile creature in His Canine Majesty's eyes. Anything could apparently kill him.
Slapping him, Lu Wei gritted his teeth. "Do you think I won't lose my temper? You're testing my limits!"
The exhibit staff witnessing the scene: !!!!
His Majesty had been struck! This young man was done for! He dared to hit His Majesty, right in front of so many people!!
The exhibition staff lowered their heads, fearing they would witness a gruesome murder scene in the next second. Others, however, continued to secretly observe.
Then, they saw the monarch looking expressionlessly at the young man.
Staff: It's coming! Oh boy, he's done for!
Monarch: "I merely wanted to remind you."
Staff: ...??
No fight?
Did that monarch silently accept being hit??
Lu Wei harrumphed and shrugged off the hand that held him back, keeping a distance of fifty meters. "I'm going to look up front! What can I see from behind?"
The monarch, accustomed to being hit, maintained a mindset of "there's no need to argue with such a vulnerable recipient," and thus didn't attempt to pull him back again.
The staff who witnessed this anew: !!
The attitude, the tone, and that unguarded spontaneous reaction—it didn't resemble at all that of a cautious and fawning subordinate, but rather someone accustomed to exercising authority.
The hot topic still floated on the Star Network.
[SECRET! Has His Majesty been spotted strolling in an ecological park with an unknown male? Could it be that His Majesty has found a companion?] (HOT)
Latest reply:
[Even if it's true, who knows if that person is just some bed warmer for His Majesty?]
Exhibition staff: ...No, I'm certain that's not the case.
Then, he didn't take the risk to reply, like someone who alone knew the juicy gossip, contentedly putting down his wristband.
