Chapter 110
by AdminChapter 110
Stepping onto the familiar soil of his hometown, Lu Wei's thoughts were a jumbled mix.
Excellent.
Before leaving, he was just an ordinary man.
Upon returning, he was now the father of two children.
The street remained much as Lu Wei remembered it, albeit with some changes. A new mall had sprung up, and several shops had exchanged hands.
It even stirred in him a sense of "fear upon approaching one's hometown, hesitating to inquire of the newcomers."
On the sidewalk strolled a pair of adorable twins, drawing curious glances from passersby.
A well-intentioned pedestrian, eyeing the two children, covered their mouth in surprise. "Are they mixed-race? Their features don't quite resemble those commonly found domestically."
Lu Wei smiled and nodded. "There's a bit of mix in there."
A blend of unknown genetics.
Extraterrestrial children.
The two youngsters, unable to understand their language, could only maintain their polite smiles as they held onto Lu Wei's hands, one on each side.
This made them even more endearing.
However, the two kids didn't resemble the father they were holding onto; instead, they bore a stronger resemblance to the man walking beside them.
It was perplexing.
It wasn't feasible to wander around aimlessly with them. Lu Wei decided to take them home first.
He had traversed the nearby streets not hundreds but thousands of times. Even after being away for years, he could still effortlessly recall the way.
Passing by their former high school, Lu Wei informed them, "Daddy used to study here."
He then fumbled in his pocket and said embarrassedly, "I wanted to show you around, but we can't go in now."
Without an ID card or a phone, Lu Wei was practically an undocumented alien on Earth.
Curious, Lu Danjiao asked, "Did you have to attend classes back then, Daddy?"
The Earthling scoffed, "From six in the morning till ten at night."
Lu Danjiao responded, "Just like me."
Lu Wei looked at him affectionately.
Poor kid, it's not the same for you.
They had breaks, whereas the two children were simply targeted by His Canine Majesty for no reason.
Huo Nian lifted his gaze to peer inside. "Did Daddy really study here for three years?"
Lu Wei: "Yes, unfortunately, we can't enter right now."
His Majesty the Dog timely interjected, "You could buy it and then you'd be able to get in."
"..."
The royal dog cast a critical glance, "So small. You might as well spend some extra money to expand and renovate it."
"..."
"No wonder you couldn't get proper meals in there. How could you have a decent meal in a slum?"
Lu Wei's fists clenched.
He shot a sidelong glance at the one who kept talking.
Only after sensing his gaze did His Majesty the Dog finally quiet down, but not before adding, "Isn't that the truth?"
Lu Wei issued a warning, "If you keep going, I'll send you back to Emperor Star right away. The two kids and I will stay."
Lu Danjiao looked at them expectantly.
His Majesty the Dog had learned its lesson and refrained from offering his precious opinions on architecture.
Lu Wei took the three of them back to his own home.
The seventy-square-meter apartment wasn't spacious, but it was cozy.
Since his family members had moved out, he had been living alone in the house.
Due to his years spent on an alien planet, no one had cleaned the place in a long time, and the air carried a musty scent.
Lu Wei opened all the windows and then instructed the two smaller beings and the adult to help with the cleaning.
The two little Pang Qius were quite efficient despite their small size, able to do what they could manage.
His Majesty the Dog, on the other hand, was purely a slacker, with no goal other than bothering Lu Wei.
In his concise manner, the dog remarked, "The apron looks nice."
Lu Wei casually donned the family's inherited pink bear apron with lace trim.
"Hmm..."
Lu Wei nudged him with his elbow. "Is there anything in your brain besides that trashy stuff?"
The royal dog replied, "I'll have an identical one custom-made when we get back to Emperor Star."
Damn.
"Scram."
Lu Wei pushed the annoyance away and proceeded to tidy up the bedroom himself.
After cleaning the table, the two youngsters leaned their heads together for a chat.
Lu Danjiao whispered, "The house is as poor as I imagined."
Huo Nian nodded. "No wonder Dad was so comfortable on Wu Star."
Lu Danjiao: "But back then, it was just me and Dad living here."
This tiny house had to accommodate not only Dad but also his other family members.
Huo Nian: "That must have been quite crowded, barely enough space for a few people to stand comfortably."
The regal dog lazily rested its chin in its paws and said, "Lower your voice, we need to preserve the dignity of our delicate flower."
Listening to the entire conversation, Lu Wei: "..."
A seventy-square-meter space is barely enough to stand in?
Those with a throne to inherit indeed speak with authority.
While the others were cleaning, Lu Wei went downstairs to buy a pack of frozen dumplings.
The auntie downstairs was surprised to see him, "Little Lu, it's been so long since I've seen you."
Lu Wei had no choice but to explain, "I was working out of town previously."
"No wonder, neither your Uncle Zhang nor I have seen you for quite some time... It's good that you went out of town."
Lu Wei carried the plastic bag up the stairs.
Upon opening the door, instead of an empty room, he found a large figure lounging on the sofa and two smaller ones crouching by the coffee table, flipping through an album.
All three looked up at the sound of the door.
"Daddy!"
"Daddy."
Two childish voices rang out, one cheerful and the other calm.
Lu Wei was taken aback.
In their household, it was the father who cooked. When the two little ones called out to him, he almost saw a glimpse of his former self.
Lu Wei: "Are you hungry?"
Lu Danjiao, a food enthusiast: "Yes, hungry!"
The Earthling headed to the kitchen: "I'll cook some dumplings."
He boiled water and placed the dumplings in the steamer.
Waiting for them to be ready was just a matter of moments.
Lu Wei caught a glimpse of His Majesty the Dog watching him through the glass kitchen door.
Lu Wei: ?
His Majesty wore a sweet expression, as if he had just indulged in a secret honey jar.
Upon noticing Lu Wei's return gaze, he intensified his stare.
His Majesty the Dog was the type who, when sensing someone's attention, wouldn't avert his eyes but instead would boldly and directly lock onto them.
Lu Wei ignored him, glancing at the time on his phone.
When the dumplings were done steaming, each of them was served a bowl of Earth's unique frozen dumplings.
Three times the private kitchen's dumplings would be sufficient for any extraterrestrial's appetite.
The two children savored their meal with great delight.
A table originally designed for one person was now occupied by four.
A subtle smile flickered in Lu Wei's eyes.
As Lu Danjiao ate, he looked up and said, "Dad, yours still taste better!"
Lu Wei was slightly surprised. "You can tell they're not made by me?"
Huo Nian nodded obediently. "It's quite easy to tell the difference. Are these mass-produced?"
Lu Wei was taken aback!
"You three extraterrestrials can even tell just by the smell?"
His Majesty the Dog said disdainfully, "I can smell it."
Lu Wei twitched the corners of his mouth. "You can smell that?"
His Majesty the Dog expressed his disdain with words. "Hmph, I didn't even touch them."
Indeed, not a single dumpling was missing from the bowl before the dog king.
So it was because he thought they smelled unappetizing and didn't want to eat them?
Lu Wei didn't indulge him. "If you don't want them, give them to me. I'm exhausted today and too lazy to cook."
His Majesty the Dog swapped bowls with him. "Then I'll eat this one."
A fresh serving appeared in front of him, while the bowl he had eaten from was taken away.
Lu Wei: ?
Lu Wei: "The same."
The dog king began to eat at a leisurely pace, "Food in others' bowls tastes better."
A cold laugh escaped Lu Wei's throat.
I can't even be bothered to scold you, Shen Jin.
Lu Wei had assumed that frozen food would suffice to appease these aliens, but he didn't expect their sense of smell to be so keen, one more sensitive than the other.
The next meal was a sweaty affair.
After dinner, Lu Wei arranged for them to take a bath.
The three of them displayed three different levels of bathing incompetence.
Lu Wei personally stepped in to teach the two youngsters, filling the tub with water for them to soak in.
After they finished washing, Lu Danjiao obediently allowed Lu Wei to dry him and change his clothes. Huo Nian, on the other hand, still felt a bit awkward. His ears were flushed red as he lay with his head on Lu Wei's arm, remaining silent.
The two youngsters were done, now it was the turn of the hot potato.
A low, resonant voice of His Canine Majesty echoed from the bathroom, muffled by the steam: "Coddled one, I don't know how to use it."
Lu Wei leaned against the door with his arms crossed: "Fine for the kids, but you need help too?"
The voice on the other side sounded languid: "Yes, this thing is too outdated."
Lu Wei replied: "Hot water's on the left, cold on the right. Just lift the handle up and it works. Surely you can understand human language, even if you can't operate it?"
The response was equally assertive: "Nope."
Lu Wei chuckled: "Should I pass you the instruction manual then?"
There was silence from the bathroom.
After a moment, the canine king complained: "You helped those two brats bathe."
"Are you also three years old?"
"Yes."
"Spit."
This scoundrel must have his ulterior motives, and Lu Wei had no intention of letting him have his way.
Standing outside the door, Lu Wei reminded, "That thing on the rack is called shower gel; it smells nice and helps you clean up better. If you want to wash your hair, use the blue bottle next to it. Emperor Star doesn't have those facilities here, so you'll just have to adapt to the local customs."
"..."
Alright, he was undoubtedly sulking now.
Lu Wei ignored him and prepared to return to his bedroom.
Suddenly, the door opened.
The Earthling reflexively turned back in fright.
There stood His Majesty the Dog right before him. Though obscured by the steam, one could still discern his general outline.
Lu Wei: "Babe, you don't –"
His words were cut short as he was pulled into the bathroom.
The door slammed shut once more.
Outside, only a trail of steam and a small puddle on the carpet remained.
That bastard had gotten his way again.
This time, the antics were quite intense. When Lu Wei emerged, his clothes were drenched, and his hair was in utter disarray.
He grumbled under his breath the whole time.
Yet, His Majesty the Dog curled his lips in a pleased smile, clearly much happier in both body and soul.
The young one playing in the bedroom caught sight of the two as they exited.
With his messy appearance, Lu Wei retreated to change his clothes, not desiring any conversation with His Majesty the Dog.
Huo Nian had been propping his chubby cheeks with his hand, but his pupils suddenly constricted. However, he didn't say anything.
Lu Danjiao, sensing something amiss, put down what he was holding and asked innocently, "Dad, what's wrong?"
With a fist against his lips, Lu Wei coughed softly. "Children should ask fewer questions."
"Why?"
"Because there's no reason. Just go to sleep obediently."
"Okay."
Although Lu Danjiao was curious, he didn't press the matter further.
Huo Jin had just finished washing his hair, and his short, black locks fell smoothly around his face, giving him an innocent appearance. He gazed intently at Lu Wei.
Lu Wei averted his gaze. "Looking at me won't help."
His Majesty the Dog: "It will."
In a few strides, His Majesty the Dog went over and took Lu Wei's hand. "Let them two sleep here. We'll go to the next room."
The two little Pang Qiu's: ???
