Chapter 15
byChapter 15
The Earl bellowed, "Be quiet!"
The agent asked cautiously, "My Lord Earl, are you speaking to me?"
Lu Wei leaned closer to Markov. "What are they doing? Having an internal conflict?"
Markov, guessing the reason behind the commotion, vaguely replied, "Perhaps."
The Earl adjusted his collar and cleared his throat. "What else? Besides you, is there anyone else here making a racket?"
The agent's voice softened involuntarily. "But Little Xi is pregnant, and he almost caused her to miscarry."
Nancy, that little one, carrying his child had brought him joy.
But with His Majesty's intervention, it was no longer just about a miscarriage. He didn't want to end up like the man from a few days ago, losing an arm.
His Majesty was not someone to be trifled with when it came to dealing with people.
He was not arrogant enough to believe that his title as an Earl could be weighed on the same scale as the favorite youth of that mad Emperor.
Not to mention that this agent usually mixed truth with lies; even if what he said was true, so what?
Would a king take out his anger on his own people because of an Earl's child?
The Earl waved his hand. "Let's drop this matter here. No more discussion."
Agent Bro: "Little Xi carries your blood, royal blood!"
Markov was greatly astonished. He had seen people with low emotional intelligence before, but this was the first time he had encountered someone at rock bottom.
The Earl slapped his Agent Bro. "When did it become your turn to speak?"
Agent Bro, who had been slapped to the ground: ?
The Earl nodded at Lu Wei. "You don't need to worry about things here. I'll take care of everything."
Implicit in his words was a warning not to report anything to the Emperor.
Lu Wei accepted the Earl's apology in a baffling manner.
Lu Wei whispered, "This Earl is a man of great ambition; he can sternly discipline even his own subordinates without favoritism."
Markov replied, "No, he's just succumbing to pressure."
Lu Wei patted the Earl on the shoulder. "Brother, you have a clear head. No wonder you've reached a leadership position. This is what they call vision!"
He put on an air of camaraderie.
The Earl: ...Huh?
Markov: That's just how he is.
The Earl had only seen this young man from afar before, but now they were conversing face to face.
His impression was—so this is the type of person His Majesty finds appealing, a peculiar-minded spice.
No wonder so many delicate beauties sent to His bed were punished in the past. The King simply didn't have a taste for that.
The Count was confused but chose to pat back in response.
Lu Wei, upon being patted, felt the aroma of the citrus nutrient solution he had consumed at noon rise up again, causing him to retch, "Ugh—"
But it was only a dry heave; nothing came out.
Tears welled up in Lu Wei's eyes from the discomfort, and he used the tip of his finger to wipe away the moisture at the corner of his eye.
This action startled the two people beside him.
Markov panicked, "Little Lu, what's wrong? Are you okay?"
The Count was even more alarmed, "Could it be because of me?"
Oh no, oh no, how many limbs did they have? If one was lost, how many would be left?
Lu Wei waved his hand, "I've just been feeling nauseous from the nutrient solutions lately."
Markov sighed in relief, "You should have said so earlier. Our station has specialized chefs who can be invited over for you. They're a professional team and can prepare food from other planets."
Feeling embarrassed to burden the Minister again, Lu Wei said, "It wouldn't be too troublesome, right? Next time, I'll bring my own lunch."
Assuming he would still be there.
Following the principle of reciprocity, Lu Wei offered, "I'm quite embarrassed today. Next time, I'll treat you all to a meal, and you can order whatever drinks you like."
The two recipients, who had just started calling him brother, replied, "…Alright."
As expected of someone capable of pleasing His Majesty, his way of thinking, language, and logic were unique across the entire Emperor Star.
Even the not-so-bright agent gradually grasped the situation. Markov had repeatedly emphasized that Lu Wei was recommended by "upper management." The Earl had gone silent after meeting him, implying that the person in the upper management was so highly ranked that even the Earl, despite Nancy's pregnancy, felt compelled to curry favor with them.
He dared not speculate further about who else might be involved.
Having reached this realization, he no longer dared to act recklessly.
---
While chatting casually with the Emperor and cracking sunflower seeds, Lu Wei commented, "Could it be that I have a stormy aura? On my first day at work, I already encountered two madmen."
Under Lu Wei's enthusiastic influence, the Supreme Ruler had also turned into a couch potato.
His Majesty the Dog yawned lazily, "They've always been like that."
Who?
Lu Wei realized he was referring to the recipient group.
Damn, so these whiny creatures were actually normal?
Lu Wei commented sharply, "Even if they can't find jobs in the future, they could form a group to stage fake accidents and lie down when the rich come by. It's a new way to get rich overnight. I wonder why I didn't think of this idea when I was unemployed before?"
His Majesty slammed the table, "Hahaha!"
The aide could hear their conversation from outside the door.
Philia, the maid, and the aide exchanged incredulous glances.
Mr. Lu was truly a one-in-a-hundred oddity on Emperor Star. Not only could he make His Majesty laugh, but he could also converse with him so casually. He feared the unthreatening and was cautious about what wasn't worth worrying about.
Unable to fathom the workings of his peculiar mind.
The adjutant silently gave Lu Wei a thumbs up but didn't rush in to report the situation.
Inside.
His Majesty the Canine was omniscient and omnipotent, likely already aware of the entire incident.
Lu Wei recounted the events in meticulous... or rather, exaggerated detail.
"Then that guy who was faking it actually passed out. Isn't that ridiculous?" Lu Wei couldn't help but find it absurd even when recalling it.
But His Majesty the Canine commented on his actions, "You were seriously considering apologizing to them? How timid."
Lu Wei replied, "That's called tactical retreat."
He still had some sense of measure and wouldn't lose his temper recklessly.
His Majesty the Canine said indolently, "After spending so much time in the Royal City, you should have developed more courage by now. If you don't like someone, you can just let them die."
His Majesty the Dog was like that, acting on whim. Lu Wei had attended several interstellar conferences with him; he was the kind of guy who would take someone's limbs if they rubbed him the wrong way.
He was straightforward and decisive.
The corners of Lu Wei's mouth twitched. "I was about to explode, but then I found out he's pregnant, so I let it slide. Besides, what would Markov do if we clashed? He's stuck between me and his superior – it'd be tough for him. You high-ranking officials don't understand these workplace dynamics."
His Majesty, listening to Markov's report, remained expressionless, but as Lu Wei vividly recounted the situation, he couldn't help but curve his lips.
Lu Wei beamed with pride. "That's called emotional intelligence. Many things don't need to be confrontational; one should know how to navigate situations smoothly, unless you enjoy job-hopping due to difficult superiors – after all, who hasn't had one or two idiots in charge?"
Spicy Pepper, for some reason, felt confident enough to lecture on emotional intelligence.
His Majesty roared with laughter. "Hahahaha!"
He had struck another chord with the Dog Emperor.
Even without being there, Huo Jin could imagine Lu Wei's half-apologetic, half-indifferent expression.
In the past, when he had shown vulnerability, it was all an act – "ferocious" was written all over his face. Once he became comfortable, his true claws would come out; he wouldn't hesitate to take on anyone, let alone an Earl. There was nothing he wouldn't dare to do.
Perhaps there wasn't another person as intriguing as this one anywhere on the Emperor Star.
His Imperial Highness, the Canine Monarch, propped his chin up lazily. "You're related to the big boss; why would you be afraid of this?"
His Imperial Highness effortlessly assimilated into Lu Wei's peculiar language system and applied it promptly.
Lu Wei replied, "So the big boss's wife doesn't have to be afraid, right?"
But the big boss's bedmates still had reason to be fearful.
Mainly due to the guilt of not being worthy of their position.
The Canine Monarch looked at him, and Lu Wei fell silent all at once.
Damn.
Would it seem like he was trying to cover up his true intentions if he explained now that he didn't imply anything about marriage?
"…"
"..."
As nervousness struck, Lu Wei's stomach started to churn like the waves of a tempestuous sea.
"Ugh—"
Forever disliking Citrus-flavored Nutrient Solution!
The Supreme Leader reached out to gently rub his stomach through his clothes. "Your stomach is so delicate."
His abdomen was warmed by the soothing touch, and it actually felt rather pleasant.
Strange. His stomach really did feel better after smelling His Canine Majesty's scent.
Was it possible that he was gradually getting used to His Canine Majesty's aura?
Lu Wei wanted to blame the Citrus-flavored Nutrient Solution for everything. "It's mainly because the nutrient solution tastes unbearable."
Due to his recent tendency to gag, Lu Wei had developed the habit of keeping a glass of water within reach at all times.
Lu Wei sipped his water and said, "Only you guys can tolerate this taste."
His Majesty the Dog: "Isn't nutrient solution meant to meet life's needs?"
Lu Wei had developed an aversion to the words "nutrient solution": "Ugh."
It was truly a suffering to have the species on Earth that loved eating the most be transported to such a place.
In two days, he decided to continue cultivating his field and planting edible ingredients, then cooking exquisite and delightful home-cooked meals.
His Majesty the Dog propped his chin up: "Fussy."
Lu Wei was too lazy to correct him.
Seeing his expression, the dog knew he wasn't convinced, so he said leisurely, "The viscount who dared to plot a rebellion last time had one of his arms removed. You couldn't even bear to look."
Lu Wei: "…"
A person's arm had a huge hole bitten out of it by some unknown terrifying creature, gushing with blood.
"Big brother, any ordinary person would react that way after seeing such a scene, alright?"
- "Your communication device has received a message."
The sender was identified as Herman.
The name rang a bell for Lu Wei upon seeing it again.
With profound depths in his canine-like eyes, the Emperor asked, "Who is it?"
Lu Wei replied, "A colleague from StarVision Network. He added me himself. During our previous meal, he picked something up for me."
The Emperor continued to gaze at him. "Oh, I see."
Lu Wei wore a thoughtful expression. "I feel like his name sounds familiar, but I can't quite place who he is."
The Emperor propped his chin up, seemingly bored. "What's his name?"
"Herman."
"..."
The Canine Majesty narrowed his eyes. "Indeed, you've heard his name."
Lu Wei: ?
"Huh? Really? Where?"
The Canine Majesty replied, "On the marriage registration terminal."
??
It was like a sudden realization.
Lu Wei recalled why the name sounded familiar!
This person was the one assigned to be his partner previously!
The assignment was inexplicably canceled shortly after.
Now he understood why.
His Royal Canine Highness had exerted his almighty power to have it canceled.
