Chapter 18
byChapter 18
Recently, Lu Wei had been vomiting more frequently than before.
Instead of once or twice a day, it had increased to three times a day.
As Lu Wei leaned against the wall, he couldn't help but recall that teammate he had encountered while gaming that day.
Pregnant Teammate: "Yeah, I have to vomit several times a day~ It's really uncomfortable, but thanks to my partner's tender care~~"
It felt like a flag had been planted straight into his heart.
Lu Wei splashed water on his face. "That shouldn't be the case. His Majesty the Dog isn't capable."
Cough, cough.
Well, he was quite capable in certain aspects, but not so much when it came to sowing seeds, right??
Upon returning from inspecting the vegetable patch in the backyard, Lu Wei encountered his adjutant.
Observing the adjutant's concerned expression at the sight of Lu Wei's haggard face, he remained silent.
The adjutant initiated a conversation, "You haven't been to Star Television lately, have you?"
Wrapping his arms around himself, Lu Wei sighed, "Since I started writing scripts, I've learned not to glorify paths I haven't walked. Honestly, it's better to start your own business if possible. Owning a small pre-cooked food stall would be nice."
The adjutant realized that Lu Wei still held onto the idea of frozen food ventures.
Walking in circles, the adjutant suddenly asked, "Speaking of which, Mr. Lu, how has your health been recently?"
Lu Wei replied, "I've been vomiting and losing my appetite. Maybe it's just homesickness."
Adjutant: !
With difficulty, Lu Wei asked, "Are you absolutely sure the Emperor can't bear children?"
Contemplating the hidden meaning behind the question, the adjutant answered, "Yes, the previous Emperor indulged in pleasure and only had one child after over a century, two princesses never conceived as well. Throughout history, it's rare for monarchs to have offspring before reaching a hundred years old."
"Alright, alright," Lu Wei breathed a sigh of relief.
Previously, it had been checked, and there was nothing wrong.
The Emperor simply couldn't; there was no need to scare oneself unnecessarily.
The aide's imagination had already spun a thousand tales, and in a fit of excitement, he blurted out, "Could it be, Mr. Lu, that you're pregnant?"
Upon hearing this, both of them froze as if a pause button had been pressed.
Lu Wei turned his head stiffly. "I-I don't think so. Isn't the Emperor unable to conceive?"
The aide took his stiffness as a sign of guilt. The Emperor might not be able to, but other men certainly could!
"This...this..."
After a moment's silence, they both appeared in the lounge.
Clearing his throat, the aide placed a pregnancy test kit, which he had specifically purchased, on the table.
Taking a deep breath, he said, "Give it a try."
Lu Wei was more nervous than he had ever been, even when he had undergone an appendectomy alone in the past!
"Okay."
The adjutant noticed that Lu Wei's voice trembled at the end of his response. Oh no! It seems to be true!
The pregnancy testers in the galaxy were far more advanced than those on Earth. They could display results simply by being worn, without the need for any additional sample collection.
Closing his eyes, Lu Wei placed his hand on the device.
The small instrument vibrated momentarily before emitting a red light above his head.
A red light indicated pregnancy.
Seeing the blinding red glow, the adjutant nearly fainted. In an instant, sweat broke out all over his body.
Lu Wei asked, "What does it mean if it flashes red?"
This was common knowledge to the entire nation, but Lu Wei had no idea. After all, he was an alien.
As he flipped open the "Pregnancy Guide," the first page glaringly read: A red glow from the fertility scanner indicates pregnancy, while green means non-pregnancy.
The aide's mind flashed back to his previous conjectures:
Mr. Lu had rekindled with an old flame on StarVision, and now, as a result, Mr. Lu was pregnant with that person's child!
It was the illicit lover's child!
The aide's mind went blank, but his mouth reacted faster than his thoughts, blurting out, "So, it means there's no pregnancy."
His quick response relieved Lu Wei, who then slumped into the chair in relief.
Lu Wei sighed with relief, "I told you it was just homesickness. Phew, phew!"
The aide: ...
Didn't His Majesty once mention that Mr. Lu eagerly wished to bear his child? Yet now, upon learning he wasn't pregnant, he seemed so grateful! What did this imply? It meant that Lu Wei knew if he were pregnant, it might not be His Majesty's child.
Lu Wei stretched, his expression visibly relaxed, "What's wrong, aide? You look quite down. Did you catch the flu too?"
Adjutant: "Ahaha, yes, yes."
---
Lately, the adjutant had been exhausting every effort to divert His Majesty and Mister Lu from suspecting anything about Lu Wei's health condition, trying to keep both parties at ease.
The job had taken a toll on the adjutant, making them appear twenty years older.
Ironically, Lu Wei seemed completely unfazed, showing no signs of hiding anything.
Unable to hold back, Lu Wei asked Huo Jin, "Do you notice anything odd about how the adjutant has been looking at me lately?"
The emperor narrowed his eyes, "No straying affections."
Lu Wei: ???
Who was being unfaithful? And was that term even used in this context?
The Canine Majesty propped his chin on his hand, lazily remarking, "This is the second time you've mentioned your adjutant. The last time was…"
He accurately recounted the exact time and location of their previous conversation about Lu Wei's adjutant.
Hmm, quite precise.
Lu Wei was stunned. "Did you have to jot it down in a notebook?"
The Canine Majesty yawned. "Do I need to specifically remember such things?"
It might have been Lu Wei's illusion, but there seemed to be a hint of disdain in the other's tone.
Lu Wei indeed noticed that the Canine Majesty had an exceptional memory. Sometimes, Lu Wei couldn't even remember where he had planted certain vegetables, yet the Canine Majesty could effortlessly point them out.
Lu Wei gently turned the Canine Majesty's head upright. "That's not the point."
Forced to look up with both hands supporting his face, the Canine Majesty met Lu Wei's gaze.
Freshly showered, his hair wasn't entirely dry, cascading softly around his shoulders. Coupled with the fact that Lu Wei had forcefully lifted his head, a touch of bewilderment in his eyes made him appear different from usual.
There was a subtle hint of vulnerability, which made the gentlemen's hearts flutter.
Lu Wei shifted his gaze away silently. "Cough."
Lu Wei was perturbed. "But don't you think he seems overly exhausted lately? His expression always looks resentful."
The Canine Monarch's gaze on him turned stony immediately. "How would you know his expression if you aren't looking at him?"
Was that the main point?
Lu Wei continued, "What I'm trying to say is that the Adjutant has been acting a bit strange lately… Ouch."
The Canine Monarch nipped at his hand and looked at him with dark, piercing eyes, as if to say, Try mentioning the Adjutant again.
Lu Wei had no choice but to redirect his attention back to this twisted Monarch.
He hadn't gleaned any information about the Adjutant anyway.
The Canine Monarch still liked to hold him in his arms, stroking his back while harrumphing. "Is the Adjutant that fascinating?"
As he asked, he nibbled gently, not causing pain but rather a tingling sensation.
Lu Wei soon found himself unable to spare any thoughts for the unusual behavior of Adjutant Qian.
Why had His Majesty the Dog become so clingy lately?
If he were to trace it back...
Adjutant, you're killing me!
Lu Wei finally woke up in the evening.
Several messages blinked on his message terminal.
He swiped open the device.
17:56.
[*Your Little Nancy*: Hello, is this Mr. Lu Wei from Star TV?]
[*Your Little Nancy*: This is Nancy. You interviewed me the other day, and then I had to be taken to the hospital.]
19:21.
[*Your Little Nancy*: Are you busy, Mr. Lu?]
Lu Wei verified the person's identity through their electronic business card.
The pregnant scammer he encountered on his first day at Star TV.
Sobbing Nancy.
His impression of her was: prone to scams, fainted after a few words, an actor, and had an abstract agent.
With a quirked brow, Lu Wei replied sharply:
[Lu Wei: How did you find me?]
The other party seemed to be online and immediately displayed "typing."
[*Your Little Nancy*: Isn't it easy to contact someone on StarNet? You just need their UID~]
[Lu Wei: Oh.]
Brother Without Common Sense began his search.
As Nancy had mentioned, it was indeed simple to locate a user on StarNet for a private conversation, even the Emperor could do so effortlessly. However, celebrities like them had long activated privacy settings, preventing random messages from being sent.
But for someone like Lu Wei who had just discovered this, he was still in the state of receiving private messages without restrictions.
[*Your Little Nancy*: I didn't mean to bother you, but that day my agent and I seemed to have caused you a lot of trouble, so I wanted to apologize.]
[Lu Wei: It's alright! As long as no one was hurt.]
You were misunderstood, Whiny One! So you only had a weak constitution, but your mind was perfectly normal.
[*Your Little Nancy*: I've never been fond of that agent's approach either, but he was imposed on me by the company and couldn't be rejected. Thanks to this incident, I was able to terminate the contract with him. Anyway, I'm still very sorry!]
Despite Lu Wei's seemingly carefree demeanor, he was actually the type who would be deeply affected if his act of kindness, like offering a seat on a bus, went unnoticed.
So, upon receiving the apology, he teared up: "Sob sob, you're such a good kid!"
[*Your Little Nancy*: I don't know where you live, but I wanted to send you some maternity products that I've been using and finding really helpful. If it's convenient for you to give me an address, I'll send them over right away as an apology gesture~~]
Maternity... products?
[Lu Wei: Huh?]
[Lu Wei: Why are you sending me these?]
[*Your Little Nancy*: Don't underestimate a pregnant man~ When I come across someone expecting, I can sense a subtle scent. I had that feeling when you were near me that day, but unfortunately, I fell before I could talk to you~]
Lu Wei wasn't illiterate, but the message was peculiarly confusing when read as a whole.
It made him laugh in bewilderment.
He didn't understand a bit of it.
[Lu Wei: Haha, I have no idea what you're talking about.]
[*Your Little Nancy*: But aren't you pregnant?]
But aren't you expecting a child?
Aren't you with child?
With child?
[*Your Little Nancy*: Oh my, don't tell me you haven't noticed yourself? Mr. Lu, you're pregnant; I can smell it~ Congratulations~]
Congratulations?
To whom?
Lu Wei took a moment to process, realizing the congratulations were for him.
Why the congratulations? Oh, because he's pregnant.
He, a man, found himself transported to a sci-fi world, and, unexpectedly, became pregnant.
[*Your Little Nancy: You're going to be a prospective mother soon. You shouldn't work during this time, right? I have some pregnancy care tips to share with you.*]
Unable to endure the devilish babbling of the whining creature any longer, Lu Wei logged onto the Star Network.
Search engine, input — "Why am I pregnant when the pregnancy test clearly showed a red light?"
Front page, first comment.
Senior physician at the Central Hospital, Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
"The pregnancy tester emits red light indicating pregnancy. It's not advisable for pregnant individuals to engage in strenuous activities. They can consume certain types of nourishing fluids to support fetal health, such as..."
For the first time in his life, Lu Wei experienced the profound impact of lacking common knowledge.
"Ahh! Adjutant, I hate you!!"
No, the culprit here is His Majesty the Dog, indeed!
Who says this male can't bear offspring, huh?!
