Chapter 2 Searching for You You’s Relatives
by## Chapter 2: Finding You You's Birth Family
Su Siwen and Qin Kun decided to adopt the child. The child took Su Siwen's surname and was named Su Youli.
Su Youli was an easy baby from the start; all he did was sleep and eat, rarely crying or fussing.
A year later, the family of three settled in a small town in Nan City.
It was Qin Kun's hometown and also where Su Siwen and Qin Kun had fallen in love.
One-year-old Su Youli was incredibly adorable, with round eyes and delicate features, like a little fairy attendant at the feet of Guanyin.
Within just a month of arriving on Yunshui Street, little Su Youli became the neighborhood's favorite child.
The two young men faced many challenges raising a child, but they found even more happiness and joy.
The child they had found in the trash became their greatest blessing.
But now, they had to help Su Youli look for his birth parents.
"You You might have been abandoned by his biological parents. Do you really think his relatives would come looking for him?"
But there was also the possibility that the child had been kidnapped. Whoever took him might have thought he was too weak to survive and discarded him out of fear of trouble.
The thought of You You being taken away made Qin Kun, a tall man standing 1.85 meters, choke up.
Su Siwen wiped his tears, his voice thick with emotion: "Then what do you want me to do? Have You You see me bedridden, unable to get up? He's only three years old."
Qin Kun ruffled his hair, kneeling by his wheelchair, trying to persuade his stubborn lover: "We are a family, and family sticks together!"
Su Siwen shook his head. His baby was only three years old, an age when he should be protected the most.
"You’re run off your feet, and my legs are getting worse..."
His vision blurred with tears as he remembered the last time You You fell, and he couldn't even get up to hold and comfort him.
Su Siwen slammed his fists against his knees, "It's all my fault, all my fault!"
He cried bitterly, and Qin Kun held him, soothing him again and again:
"Alright, alright, don't cry."
"The flyers we mailed out all have You You's photo on them, and You You's information is also registered in the 'Reunion System'."
"If You You's biological parents really haven't given up looking for him, they will definitely see it."
Qin Kun couldn’t help hoping in his heart that You You had not been abandoned by his biological parents but had been taken from them.
Qin Kun was leaving for work, and Su Youli toddled after him to the roadside.
"Kun Kun, can You You have a cream ice cream today?" The little one tugged at his father's pants.
Qin Kun swept the child up high with his big hands. Su Youli didn’t startle at being lifted; he often played like this with his dad.
"Whee! Up high, Kun Kun!"
Su Youli looked like a doll, with long, fluttering lashes and eyes as bright as stars. When he smiled, he looked even sweeter.
Noticing that Kun Kun hadn’t started tossing him up again as usual, Su Youli glanced at his dad curiously.
Qin Kun held him close, ruffling the back of his head: "You You, be good for your little dad at home, don't run around, okay? Dad will bring you cream ice cream after work."
"Yay!"
You You raised his hands high, gave his dad a loud, sloppy kiss, leaving a shiny trail of drool on Qin Kun's face.
As soon as Qin Kun put Su Youli down, a bunch of kids came running up on the stone-paved road behind them.
"You You, come play Eagle Catches the Chicks!"
Su Youli's eyes sparkled. He turned around, threw a quick wave over his shoulder to his dad, and scampered off.
Qin Kun watched the little one run off with his friends, his expression clouded for a second.
How could they bear to part with such an adorable child?
Over the past year, Su Siwen's leg condition had deteriorated, and the time he could stand was getting shorter.
They had been to many major hospitals, and the doctors said either amputation or trying their luck abroad were the only options.
Every time they traveled to hospitals in other cities and were gone for ten days or a couple of weeks, Su Youli would stand at the door, his big eyes welling up, watching them get into the car.
Just a little over two years old, clearly upset, but he never once cried out.
He just waved obediently to his two dads, putting on a brave face with a small voice: "You You will wait at home for dads to come back."
Their next-door neighbor, Grandma Yang, was a very kind old woman. Grandpa Yang was a carpenter, and the whole family adored Su Youli.
Every time Qin Kun took Su Siwen out for medical treatment, Su Youli stayed at Grandma Yang's house.
...
At noon, the smell of lunch cooking drifted down the street.
"You You, come home for lunch!"
Su Siwen stood at the door, leaning against the doorframe for support.
When he was outside, he refused his cane and wheelchair, standing tall and smiling as he called Su Youli home for lunch.
Su Youli was playing hopscotch with Yang Yang and the others. Hearing his dad call him, he didn’t miss a beat, whirling around and dashing home, ignoring his friends calling after him.
Su Youli ran to the door and held his arms up to Su Siwen: "Dad, carry me!"
Su Siwen smiled and crouched down, scooping Su Youli up.
There was a small step at the door, and Su Siwen stumbled slightly as he stepped up.
Su Youli blinked and said, "Dad, Kun Kun says You You is a big kid now."
Su Siwen reached out to boop his little nose, suppressing the dull pain in his knees: "Baby is still small!"
Then he saw Su Youli pout, "I am a big kid, I can walk by myself."
"Put me down, Dad!"
He knew his little dad's legs hurt.
Su Siwen held on a little tighter for a second but gently set the child down.
Once on the ground, Su Youli walked steadily on his own and reached for his little dad’s hand to hold.
"Daddy, Kun Kun said he'll buy me ice cream after work!"
Mentioning his favorite treat, the little one beamed, his eyes already filled with anticipation.
Su Siwen nodded and said, "Then you need to eat your lunch properly, or Kun Kun won't buy you ice cream!"
Arriving at the dining table, Su Youli obediently climbed onto his own special little stool, holding his small wooden bowl with both hands as he started eating.
He chowed down a bowl, wiped his mouth, climbed down from the stool, and took his bowl over to the side.
"Kun Kun, I finished my meal! You have to buy me ice cream~"
With a child at home and a patient with limited mobility, Qin Kun had installed a monitoring system early on.
Qin Kun was also eating at the moment, and the child's voice came through the monitor, making him smile.
"Okay, I'll buy it for you. Just wait!"
Su Youli chuckled twice then took the bowl to the kitchen.
He stepped up on his special little stool and placed his bowl in the sink.
"Little Daddy, You You is all full. You need to eat well too!"
Su Youli began making sure Su Siwen ate.
Su Siwen was an artist. Before his leg condition worsened, he used to take digital art commissions online and had gained some fame on the internet.
Over the past six months, he could no longer paint.
The pain from his leg condition was immense, not only putting a strain on the family finances but sometimes even requiring little Su Youli to take care of him.
Being ill had affected his appetite, so the little one would watch him eat, even telling him Little Daddy was a disobedient father.
Su Siwen blushed at the remark.
Yesterday, Su Youli tried washing dishes like Qin Kun but ended up breaking two bowls, which really scared Su Siwen.
So today, the little one didn't attempt to wash them, instead leaving the bowls in the sink for Kun Kun to wash when he returned.
Some things were only for children to do, as he had learned after breaking the bowls.
After finishing his meal, Su Siwen sat in a chair with a blanket over his legs, logging into his account to check if anyone had commissioned any simple artwork.
Su Youli woke up from his nap by himself and ran out to play in the yard.
It had just rained on that midsummer afternoon, and the air was still misty in the yard.
With just a glance, Su Siwen could see the little form crouched in the garden, playing.
