Chapter 149 The Two Little Guests
byChapter 149: Two Young Guests
It was the first time two children were visiting their home, so Pei Yi and Pei Qiqi woke up early to prepare.
The weather had turned cooler. Pei Qiqi, dressed in a cotton blue shirt and jeans, stood on a small stool, helping to sift flour.
He turned to look at his uncle, whose eyes were shadowed by dark circles. He tried to hold back, but finally couldn't resist.
"Uncle, maybe you should go back to your room and sleep."
Pei Yi tilted his head back, let out a huge yawn, and mumbled indistinctly, "How can I do that? Le Le and Niu Niu are your friends; of course, I have to join you in being good hosts."
"But your eyes are really dark."
Don't scare Le Le and Niu Niu.
Pei Yi, a house designer, often stayed up late revising plans and designs. Just last night, he'd only slept for two hours before getting up to busy himself.
Hua Zhao rolled her eyes at the stubborn man, one hand on her hip. "Be careful, one day you'll work yourself to death, and then you'll know you were wrong."
Pei Qiqi pouted, ran over to Pei Yi, held his hand, and blinked his big eyes at Hua Zhao.
Hua Zhao immediately offered an apologetic smile. "Auntie is just joking with your uncle. He won't die. There's a saying, you know, the bad ones live longest..."
Pei Qiqi tightly gripped his uncle's finger, looking up at him.
Pei Yi knew he was worried, so he bent down and pinched his cheek. "After we finish all the preparations, Uncle will go rest. You're the little host today; you have to play with your older brother and sister. Can you do that?"
Pei Qiqi nodded. "Yes."
Pei Yi nodded with satisfaction. "That's my good boy."
Pei Qiqi blinked. "Uncle, I miss You You. When will he be back?"
Pei Yi had now become close friends with Shen Minyan. Boss Shen was serious and rarely smiled, and their relationship had only grown closer thanks to Pei Yi's thick skin.
"Didn't Uncle Shen say during your video call with You You yesterday? They're not coming back. The last stop of the recording is in Germany, and You You will be waiting for you all there."
Pei Qiqi shook his head, looking dejected.
Pei Yi reached out to tickle his chin. "Oh dear, which little grumpy is upset again? Could it be that you miss You You so much you're going to cry golden tears? Let me see, let me see."
He cupped Pei Qiqi's face with both hands and gave it a good rub.
Pei Qiqi: "..."
The uncle and nephew played around outside the kitchen for a while, with Pei Qiqi being tickled by Pei Yi until he laughed so hard tears came to his eyes.
The doorbell rang with a "ding-dong."
Pei Yi took Qiqi's hand and went to open the door for the guests.
"Qiqi, I came to play with you! Do you miss me?" Mi Le, held by his brother, started being social as soon as he saw Pei Qiqi.
Mi Huan grabbed him by the collar and gave an awkward smile to Pei Yi.
Pei Yi was very familiar with them; he had rewatched the past two episodes of the reality show several times.
"Hello, welcome, welcome! Please come in."
Mi Huan, bringing his younger brother, hesitated while greeting.
He was screaming internally: How on earth should he address Qiqi's uncle?
Should he also call him uncle? But Pei Yi only looked a few years older than Shen Yan—would calling him uncle make him seem old?
Call him brother? Then Mi Le would be a generation older than Qiqi.
Help, someone save him.
"Hello, Uncle. My name is Mi Le, and this is my brother Mi Huan. He's an introvert, a bit shy," Mi Le said confidently.
Mi Huan, still struggling internally, felt like dying: "...Uncle Pei, hello. My name is Mi Huan."
Pei Yi laughed loudly, crouched down, and ruffled Mi Le's hair. "You even know what an introvert is? That's amazing."
Mi Le puffed his chest out proudly. Of course, when Mom and Dad watched the show at home, they would read the comments to them.
The people online said: "Introverts are toys for extroverts. Mi Huan is his little brother's toy on the show."
That saying was so funny; Mi Le was particularly impressed by that comment.
After the brothers entered, Mi Le held Qiqi's hand and glanced across the street.
"Qiqi, is that You You's house?"
Mi Le pointed at a large villa in the distance and asked.
Pei Qiqi nodded. "Yeah."
As they brought the guests inside, Hua Zhao also came out, having washed her hands, to greet them.
Mi Huan visibly relaxed a lot upon seeing her, nodding and saying, "Aunt Hua."
"Welcome, welcome! Come in and sit."
The two little friends held hands and sat on the rug to play with toys, with a neat row of Ultraman Tiga figures lined up to welcome them.
Mi Le said, "Wow," and reached out to gently touch them with his fingertips. "Qiqi, can I play with your Ultraman Tiga?"
Pei Qiqi nodded, pursed his lips thoughtfully, picked out a fairly large Ultraman Tiga, and placed it in front of Mi Le.
Pei Yi was very sociable and had grown fond of the Mi brothers while watching the show, so he kept dragging Mi Huan into selfies.
Mi Huan felt his scalp crawl, thinking his social anxiety was really getting cured.
Not long after Mi Le and the others started playing, Wang Shilan arrived with Niu Niu.
Hua Zhao saw that she now looked radiant, holding her beautiful daughter, and she seemed to be in excellent spirits.
The three little kids were a bit shy when they first met, but there was no need to worry.
Mi Le held one hand each, and the three little ones quickly started playing together, without any reunion adjustment period.
The parents sat in the sitting area not far away, chatting about recent happenings online.
Du Ze was now truly a public enemy. Not only were all his jobs suspended, but he was also dropped by his agency. It was said he signed with a small company no one had ever heard of, and before he joined, the most famous person there was a social media influencer.
After discussing the unfortunate people and matters, the four parents shifted their attention to the three little kids.
Pei Yi had a proud, loving look of a proud dad, his eyes even glistening with tears.
How wonderful—his Qiqi was now willing to play with kids besides You You.
The three little rascals grew tired of playing with Ultraman and put the toys back in their original places.
Mi Le whispered to Qiqi: “You You said he has a really smart dog named Su Yuanzi.”
Pei Qiqi nodded, “Yes, Yuanzi is very smart. It helps You You fetch his slippers.”
Niu Niu and Mi Le couldn’t visit You You, so they wanted to go see his dog instead.
Pei Qiqi hesitated, worried it might disturb Auntie Chu Ying and her family.
Mi Le offered a solution: “I won’t touch it or bully it. I just want to take a look, just a quick look from a distance.”
Overhearing the children’s conversation, Pei Yi had Hua Zhao send a message to Chu Ying, asking if she was home and if Qiqi could bring the two little ones over to see Yuanzi.
Chu Ying replied immediately, “Of course! Come on over, I haven’t met Mi Le and Niu Niu yet.”
The parents were almost all loyal viewers of the reality show and were very familiar with the children.
After getting Chu Ying’s approval, Pei Yi cleared his throat and waved for Qiqi to come over.
“Qiqi, can you take Le Le and Niu Niu to visit Auntie Chu Ying and tell her you’d like to play with Yuanzi?”
“I…”
Ever since Qiqi began treatment, Pei Yi and Hua Zhao had been intentionally encouraging him to build his courage and social skills.
They often sent him to the Shen family to borrow salt and soy sauce while cooking dinner.
Pei Qiqi turned around and met two pairs of sparkling, eager eyes.
He clenched his little fists—for the sake of his good friends, he would give it his all.
“Okay, I’ll take them there.”
