Chapter 87 The Little Tadpole Finds Its Mother

Shen Lin added dramatic details as he recounted the previous trip to Nan City.

He used extremely lavish and praising language to extol the two uncles' noble character—how immensely compassionate, selflessly dedicated, and expecting nothing in return they were.

Chu Ying could also understand; empathizing, if she had raised a child and had to send them away, she definitely wouldn’t accept that money either.

To raise a child who wasn't biologically theirs so well, Chu Ying felt that You You’s two adoptive fathers loved him no less than she did.

“I do have some connections abroad. Since they’re unwilling to accept money, we can get their treatment and surgery costs covered. For charges that can’t be waived, we can just quietly cover them.”

Chu Ying crossed her arms and glanced around, unsurprisingly seeing the admiring looks in her two nephews’ eyes.

The Shen family had no connections in the medical field; aside from money, they really couldn’t offer much. But Su Siwen and Qin Kun were stubborn by nature—even that one million had been slipped to them discreetly.

Everyone unanimously agreed with this discussion outcome.

    ......

During the meeting, the family took turns praising Su Siwen and Qin Kun. Even the usually aloof Chu Ying had to admit that these two young men were truly very, very good people.

At the end of the meeting, under the hopeful gazes of her two sons, Chu Ying still stated that she would not move back but would come to see her sons every week.

The three men of the Shen family sat on their chairs, looking quite pitiful.

In the garden, the little one, who had been strolling with Yuanzi, grew tired and sat on a bench, holding a Stitch sippy cup with both hands and sipping from it.

After rehydrating, the little one’s sleepiness hit right on schedule.

As the wind blew, the little one blinked a few times, opened his small mouth to yawn, and then very naturally took Xiao Tang’s hand.

Tang Dou was highly experienced in caring for the little one. With a “heave-ho,” he lifted the little one from the ground and gently tapped his delicate nose.

“Who do you want to nap with today, You You?”

The names of Dad, Big Brother, Second Brother, and Xiao Tang ran through his mind. After careful consideration, Su Youli held up one finger: “Mommy, You You wants to nap with Mommy!”

Chu Ying was naturally very willing to accompany him. The little one was delighted and, holding Mommy’s hand, headed toward the stairs.

But as his dark, bright eyes shifted, his small body turned in another direction. “Mommy, let’s take the elevator.”

Chu Ying’s heart melted. How was she so lucky to have such a well-behaved little one?

The reason the little one was so thoughtful was, of course, because of his little dad.

Su Siwen’s leg wasn’t good—he couldn’t stand or walk for too long, and climbing stairs was naturally not possible.

So Qin Kun had a chairlift installed in the small building, allowing him to move freely up and down.

After returning to Bei City, the little one firmly remembered Kun Kun’s words and diligently practiced climbing stairs every day. He had never used the elevator at home.

After exiting the elevator, they quickly reached the second-floor children’s room.

Chu Ying was very familiar with the layout of the house. The room the little one was staying in now was also the children’s room she had designed together with Shen Minyan back then.

Chu Ying had always been convinced she was carrying a daughter and had tried to paint the walls and ceiling pink, furnishing the crib and all the room’s decorations according to a little princess’s setup.

Shen Minyan thought it over and finally couldn’t resist advising—if it really turned out to be a boy, seeing the room his parents had painted entirely pink might make him unhappy, thinking they didn’t like him.

So the two compromised and chose an egg-yellow color, which was gender-neutral.

Chu Ying hadn't stepped into this children's room for over three years. The once empty space was now almost entirely crammed with the little one's things.

The housekeeper brought Chu Ying's change of clothes, and as she changed and sat by the bed, she was still a little disoriented.

It all seemed like a dream.

The two small pillows at the head of the bed were clearly hand-sewn. Chu Ying picked one up and took a closer look.

The stitches were tight and neat, with the name "Su Youli" embroidered in the upper right corner and a small cartoon tree in the lower left.

The pillow was soft, and its scent matched the little one's own scent—clearly something he used every day.

Meanwhile, Su Youli stood in front of his small mirror, carefully combing his curly locks.

It was his first time sharing a bed with Mommy today, so he had to make sure his hair looked extra handsome.

After washing his face, hands, and combing his hair, the little one padded out in his little slippers.

Mommy was already in her pajamas, sitting on the edge of the bed. The little one felt a bit nervous, clutching the hem of his shirt into two small triangles in his hands.

Seeing the shy little one, Chu Ying set the pillow down and waved him over. "You You, come quickly, it's time to sleep."

That's just how the little one was—one smile from Mommy and he forgot everything, immediately scampering over to snuggle up to Chu Ying.

"Should Mommy help you up onto the bed?" Chu Ying bent down, ready to assist.

The little one just shook his curly hair confidently, positioning his hands and feet to climb onto the bed himself. As he climbed, he declared with effort, "Mommy, You You can get on the bed on his own."

The floor was covered with a thick carpet, so even if he fell, it'd be fine. Chu Ying decided not to intervene.

Using all his strength, his little body wriggled and squirmed, and in no time, he had climbed onto the bed.

Su Youli slid under the covers, pulled his little blanket over himself, and seeing Mommy still sitting there, he tapped the spot beside him with his small arm, signaling for Chu Ying to lie down next to him.

Under the blanket, the little one was clearly excited. His carefully styled hair was already slightly messy, with a single cowlick swaying with his movements.

Chu Ying couldn't detect any trace of shyness in the little one's behavior toward her; if anything, his attitude was enthusiastic.

    "Mommy?"

Hearing his urging, Chu Ying lifted the blanket and lay down beside him.

The blanket was soft, and the bed carried the sweet, milky scent of a toddler—specifically, the aroma of little Su Youli's shower gel, shampoo, and baby lotion.

Once Mommy was lying beside him, the little one was no longer sleepy. He rolled over and peered up at her with bright eyes.

It was strange—even though it was their first meeting, he already liked Mommy very much.

"You You, should Mommy tell you a story?" Chu Ying suggested, noticing he wasn't sleepy.

Su Youli nodded. He was a little boy who loved bedtime stories.

Chu Ying turned on her side, slipped an arm around him, and spoke softly:

"One day, Mother Duck took her children to the middle of the pond to play.

The little tadpoles saw the ducklings paddling around in the water with their mother and began to think of their own mother. They asked each other, 'Where is our mother?' but none of them knew."

The little one in her arms was captivated, scooching closer and closer until he was cuddled up against Chu Ying.

"Mommy, how will the little tadpoles find their mother?"

    They have to find her!
