Chapter 98 The Police Arrive
byChapter 98 The Police Arrived
Su Youli got a bit sleepy while playing and raised his hand to rub his eyes, but Pei Qiqi stopped him.
"Brother Qi Qi," the little boy called out with a yawn.
Pei Qiqi patted his back, and the little boy fell asleep shortly after.
Once he was asleep, Pei Qiqi climbed down from his seat, wanting to go out and see what his uncle and aunt were doing.
"Qi Qi, stay in the car and keep You You company, okay?" Tang Dou interjected.
Pei Qiqi looked at the little boy, whose face was flushed from sleep, then glanced through the car window at his uncle’s back.
Pei Xu knew how his uncle and aunt were handling the nanny situation.
The nanny had actually been very discreet and knew the blind spots in the Pei family’s security cameras well, never daring to actually harm Pei Qiqi.
But she had indeed made some nasty comments and was quite mean to Pei Qiqi when the adults weren’t around.
Upon learning how Qi Qi had been treated, Hua Zhao immediately called the nanny agency, demanding that the agency compensate them and make the nanny apologize.
Pei Yi wasn’t satisfied with just that. He was someone who always repaid grievances, and anyone who bullied Qi Qi had to pay the price.
He reported the incident to the police right away and explained what happened.
But the evidence he had wasn’t enough to open a case. The surveillance footage didn’t capture the nanny causing any actual harm to Qi Qi, and after a few days, nothing came of it.
Pei Yi went to the police station himself yesterday afternoon, having Hua Zhao stay home with Qi Qi.
When the police analyzed that the case might not go anywhere, Pei Yi was very unwilling to let it go.
It was at that moment that Hua Zhao called. When the call connected, it was the small, young voice of little Qi Qi.
The little boy said calmly and earnestly to the police officer: "Officer, I can be a witness. The nanny really did scold me..."
With the witness testimony, Pei Yi also hired a lawyer. Combined with evidence like the surveillance footage, it was clear—the nanny’s actions had indeed violated Pei Xu’s legal rights, and Pei Yi could fully demand that the nanny bear civil liability.
Pei Yi was satisfied, but what he didn’t expect was that before the police could contact the nanny, she came over herself the next day.
With Qi Qi now together with You You and with the nanny Xiao Tang watching them, Hua Zhao didn’t hold back anymore, turning into an angry parent.
"Are you getting up or not? If not, don’t blame me for taking action." Hua Zhao took a baton from one of the guards.
The woman on the ground was unfazed. In fact, when she saw Hua Zhao pull out a weapon, her eyes gleamed with excitement, and she immediately took out her phone to start recording.
She planned to post it online later. People online would see an older woman lying on the ground, surrounded by so many people, and would definitely side with her.
She didn’t care about being laughed at, but she knew Hua Zhao was a model and Pei Yi was a somewhat famous designer.
She had nothing to lose, but they did.
They were the ones who should be afraid.
Thinking this, the nanny folded her arms: "Come on, hit me if you dare. Aim for here. I’m here today to get my wages back..."
Shen Minyan was focused on shopping for his young son’s gear and had no patience for this kind of troublemaker.
He glanced at his wristwatch, turned around, and called the police.
Just then, the nanny’s phone rang. As soon as she answered, her face fell.
"Impossible, absolutely impossible. I didn’t abuse the child... Evidence? What evidence?"
The woman, who had been so confident moments ago, immediately panicked. Without anyone telling her to, she got up quickly from the ground, phone pressed to her ear, stumbling over her words.
The police had finally called her, asking her to come down to the station for questioning.
As a nanny who had worked for wealthy families for years, she knew exactly how important reputation was to these people.
Before starting the job, she had looked into the Pei family’s background. Pei Xu was not Pei Yi’s biological son.
In her view, Pei Yi had taken Pei Xu in only as a favor to his late brother.
Pei Yi’s strict instructions to her were simply because he had high standards for nannies.
How much could he really care for a child who wasn’t his own? Besides, the child had an unlikeable temperament—always had a stern look on his face and showed no manners.
It was only at this moment that she realized she had provoked the wrong people.
The woman glared at the two in front of her.
Pei Yi was small-minded and vengeful, and his wife, who looked put-together, was actually cheap. After firing her, they gave her compensation but had the company take it back a few days later.
Losing her job was one thing, but why take back the compensation too?
She had been fired for no reason. They were the ones who broke the contract.
She had come today with the intention of making a scene. This villa area was full of wealthy people, and she wanted to see if the Pei family still cared about their reputation.
When the call from the police station came, she was truly scared. She hadn’t expected that, despite avoiding all the surveillance cameras, there was still something she missed.
There was even witness testimony, leaving her with no way to talk her way out of it.
Her phone clattered to the ground. The nanny’s arrogance vanished, replaced by deep regret.
Pei Yi smirked the whole time, looking down on her terrified state.
"Mr. Pei, please don’t sue me. I... I have children to support, my parents are old... I don’t want the compensation anymore..."
It was too late.
The nanny’s legs gave way, and she collapsed to the ground, unable to get up. The thought of possibly going to jail made her break out in a cold sweat.
"I didn’t hit him, I just... I just..."
Pei Yi folded his arms, waiting for her to continue.
The sound of police sirens grew closer.
"Who called the police?" a male officer in uniform asked.
Shen Minyan pointed to the ground and said, "I called. This person is obstructing our passage. Please take her away."
The police looked at the woman sitting on the ground and asked her why she was blocking the road.
The nanny, of course, couldn’t say a word. Hua Zhao stepped forward to explain.
Upon learning that the woman was a nanny who had mistreated the employer’s child, the two officers warned her to leave immediately, or they would have to forcibly remove her.
The nanny was completely stunned and broke into sobs, "It was just a few harsh words, and I wasn’t wrong either. Mr. Pei Xu, sir, I apologize to you, I’ll bow at your feet. My whole family relies on my paycheck to get by. If I go to jail, what will happen to my family?!"
She regretted it, hating herself for not being more careful with her words, for being overheard while speaking ill of her employer.
A child suddenly stepped out from the crowd.
Pei Xu walked over to his uncle’s side and took his hand.
The moment the nanny saw him, her eyes lit up, and without a word, she knelt and kowtowed before him.
"Qi Qi, Auntie messed up. Please forgive me, Auntie truly knows she was wrong."
With her face battered and bloody, she crawled forward, desperately trying to reach out and grab Pei Xu.
